Frequently asked questions
When will HyperOS 4 be released?
Xiaomi has officially confirmed HyperOS 4 will be unveiled in July or August 2026. That refers to the China launch; the global announcement typically follows a few weeks later — HyperOS 3 arrived in China in August and went global in September. The stable rollout is expected to reach older devices around October 2026. Until then, current devices are receiving HyperOS 3.3, an interim update already based on Android 17.
Which Xiaomi devices will get HyperOS 4 first?
According to leaks, the first China beta batch covers Xiaomi’s newest flagships — the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17 Ultra and 17 Max — alongside the Redmi K90, K90 Pro Max and K90 Pro Max Champion Edition. Older flagships and mid-range devices follow in later waves. For the full set of eligible devices across Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO, see our HyperOS 4 eligible devices list.
What is HyperOS 3.3, and how is it different from HyperOS 4?
HyperOS 3.3 is an interim update that brings Android 17 to current Xiaomi devices ahead of the HyperOS 4 launch; it began rolling out on July 15, 2026. It carries the new Android base but not the full HyperOS 4 package, the deeper “Zero-Legacy” rework, redesigned visuals and new AI features arrive with HyperOS 4 itself later this year.
What is the difference between HyperOS and MIUI?
HyperOS is the software platform that replaced MIUI as Xiaomi’s Android skin in 2023. It was built to run across Xiaomi’s whole ecosystem, phones, tablets, wearables and smart-home devices,, rather than phones alone. HyperOS 4 pushes that split furthest yet: Xiaomi is purging the remaining MIUI-era legacy code and rewriting core system apps for better memory safety and smoother performance.
How many years of updates do Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones get?
It depends on the tier. Xiaomi’s flagships generally receive four to five major Android versions, mid-range models two to three, and budget phones often just one or two. Xiaomi hasn’t published update policies for many entry-level devices, which is why our eligibility lists only include models we can verify, always check the list for your exact model rather than relying on the headline promise.
Do POCO and Redmi phones get the same updates as Xiaomi phones?
Yes, Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO all run HyperOS, and major updates like HyperOS 4 cover all three brands. The difference is timing and support length: flagship Xiaomi and POCO F-series devices sit early in the rollout order, while budget Redmi and POCO C-series models come later and get fewer major updates. POCO also publishes its own eligibility confirmations, which we track separately in the Android 17 for POCO list.
