Add GIZMOCHINA on Google:
Xiaomi has announced the Smart 4G Camera 3 in China, and it’s listed on Xiaomi Youpin for crowdfunding. Unlike a typical home security camera, it doesn’t need a Wi-Fi connection to work, thanks to a built-in SIM card with free mobile data.
The camera comes with SIM cards from China Telecom and China Unicom. Xiaomi says there are no top-ups or hidden data charges, so you can set it up in places without a nearby router, such as a garage, shop, or spare room, and still check the live feed remotely.
There is one limitation, though. The free data only works through the Xiaomi Home app and cannot be used on other devices. This is the same as the Xiaomi Smart Outdoor Camera 4 4G, which also comes with a built-in SIM and free data for video streaming.
Xiaomi Smart 4G Camera 3 Specifications
The Smart 4G Camera 3 records at 2880 x 1620 resolution via a 5MP lens with an f/1.6 aperture. It also has a high-sensitivity sensor for capturing color footage in very low light, and when there is almost no ambient light, multiple 940nm infrared fill lights help the camera capture footage at night.
Its dual-motor pan-tilt system lets the camera rotate 360° horizontally and tilt 109° vertically for expansive coverage. Xiaomi has also included five AI detection functions for monitoring activity around the home, including situations involving children and pets.
The camera supports real-time two-way voice calls, allowing you to speak to someone on the other end, along with all-day ultra-low-power recording and time-lapse photography.
You can connect the camera with other smart home devices through Xiaomi HyperConnect. And since you can view the feed remotely from several devices, including your phone, you can check in whenever you want. If you’d rather stay on Wi-Fi, Xiaomi’s Smart Camera 4 is an option, with 4K video and Wi-Fi 6, but it has no cellular connection.
Xiaomi Smart 4G Camera 3 Price and Availability
The Xiaomi Smart 4G Camera 3 carries a retail price of 269 yuan (around $38) in China. It goes on crowdfunding starting on November 4, where you can grab it for 199 yuan (around $28).
