The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra 5G uses a triple rear camera system designed to handle different shooting situations.

The main camera uses a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 23 mm wide lens. It has a 1/1.56-inch sensor, 1.0µm pixel size, phase detection autofocus, and optical image stabilization (OIS).

The ultra-wide camera uses an 8 MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 14 mm lens. It offers a 112° field of view, uses a 1/4.0-inch sensor, and has 1.12µm pixels.

The telephoto camera uses a 50 MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture and a 70 mm lens. It uses a 1/2.88-inch sensor, 0.61µm pixels, PDAF, and supports 3x optical zoom.

Photo performance

The phone achieved a photo score of 154. In testing, the main camera delivered stable exposure and natural colors in most conditions. Skin tones were rendered accurately across different skin types. Images showed good detail and controlled noise in bright light, indoor lighting, and moderately low light.

Autofocus was fast and accurate. The camera was able to lock focus quickly when capturing both still and moving subjects. Group photos also benefited from extended depth with AI face detail enhancement that kept faces clear across the frame.

Some issues were still visible in testing. Exposure shifts affecting brightness and contrast appeared in certain scenes. White balance changes were also noticeable in some cases. Testers also observed artifacts such as fusion artifacts and occasional face rendering issues in both main and telephoto photos.

Low light and portrait

In low-light scenes, the camera maintained good detail with limited noise. Faces usually appeared bright and well rendered, though they could sometimes appear slightly brighter than the background. Exposure and white balance could shift in challenging lighting.

Portrait mode produced natural skin tones and reliable background separation. Depth mapping was usually accurate, although small depth errors could appear around the subject.

Zoom and video

The telephoto camera delivered consistent results with the main camera in both photo and video capture. Images retained good detail and low noise. The ultra-wide camera showed lower quality, with softer images and more visible noise compared with the other cameras. Zoom performance received a score of 125.

Video achieved a score of 132. Video clips showed good detail and controlled noise. Autofocus remained stable, although exposure shifts were sometimes visible during recording.

Overall, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra 5G delivers strong camera performance for its price segment, especially with its main and telephoto cameras.

The Tecno Pop X has been launched in India in a single configuration with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 8,499 (~$93). The phone will go on sale starting March 6 at 12 PM (local time) through Amazon and offline retail stores. As part of a launch offer, buyers using select bank cards may be able to purchase the device at a reduced price of Rs 7,749 (~$85).

POVA Ecosystem Targets Gamers

The POVA Ecosystem extends this concept across multiple devices. POVA Metal is the world’s first full-metal unibody 5G phone. It has a Snapdragon processor and all-metal construction.

POVA Controller Slide is the world’s first controller with targeted aiming for MOBA mobile games. It offers 0 to 25-degree adjustable viewing angles, works for both FPS and MOBA games, and supports wireless charging.

Edge AI Runs Directly on Phone

Edge-Side AIGC Preview Concept Technology puts AI processing on the device itself. This removes the need for an internet connection and cuts down lag time.

TECNO worked with Arm to build customized Style Transfer Preview technology. It uses algorithm optimization to reduce screen flickering and jitters that appear in older solutions. The result is a real-time preview at 30fps with smooth split-screen viewing.

The company compressed AI models to run completely offline on smartphones while keeping artistic quality and stable performance.

Other Design Concepts

AI EINK uses electronic ink technology for a paper-like display. The device uses AI recognition to analyze colors from the camera and match the back panel. Users can personalize it through a dedicated app.

TECNO Slim 2 has an ultra-thin body and 0.7mm ultra-narrow bezel.

POVA Neon is the first smartphone to use ionized inert gas lighting technology, creating a glowing effect.

The Concept Design Suite includes a laptop, tablet, earbuds, smartwatch, smart glasses, and power bank. The “Music in Motion” theme uses citrus yellow and urban gray colors.

Tri-Fold Phone Measures 11.49mm Folded

TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept is the world’s thinnest tri-fold phone. The G-style tri-fold design has a 9.94-inch display that folds inward twice. This protects the main screen from scratches and impacts when closed.

The device is 11.49mm thick when folded and 3.49mm thick when unfolded. It uses 2,000 MPa ultra-high-strength steel for the hinge and ultra-strong Titan Fiber for the back cover, which is just 0.3mm thick.

TECNO displayed these concepts at Stand 7A40 in Hall 7 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona from March 2 to 5.

At Mobile World Congress 2026, TECNO announced an upgrade to its AIoT ecosystem. The update is built around TECNO OneLeap, a new interconnection platform that connects smartphones, tablets, PCs, and other smart devices. The company also introduced three new products: the MEGAPAD 2 AI tablet, the Watch GT 1S smartwatch, and the FreeHear 2 open-ear earbuds.

TECNO OneLeap is designed to make multi-device use simple. Devices are discovered automatically and can be connected with a single drag or tap. There is no need for repeated logins or complex setup. Discovery, connection, management, and cross-device interaction are handled in one unified interface.

OneLeap supports three-device collaboration across smartphones, tablets, and PCs at the same time. Trusted devices reconnect automatically. With Keyboard and Mouse Sharing, users can control three screens using one keyboard and mouse. A unified clipboard allows instant sharing of text and files. Images copied on a smartphone can be pasted directly into documents on a tablet or laptop. These tools are built to improve workflow across multiple screens.

The platform also offers flexible display options. A smartphone can mirror to a laptop, while a tablet works as an extended PC display. This enables a three-screen setup. In Phone Widescreen Extension mode, optimized for tablet screen ratios, smartphone and tablet activities stay independent so users can multitask without interruption.

OneLeap also supports real-time, face-to-face translation in more than 160 languages when paired with TECNO audio devices. Translated speech plays through earbuds instantly, and transcripts are saved on the phone for later reference.

The MEGAPAD 2 features an 11-inch 2.5K display with a 90Hz refresh rate and TÜV Low Blue Light certification. It has a 6.6mm ultra-slim body and runs on HiOS. AI Problem Solving supports independent learning and allows parents to guide children. AI Translation works in up to 140 languages across images, calls, videos, and meetings. AI document summary and writing refinement tools support light study and everyday tasks. Through OneLeap, it supports file sharing and PC screen extension.

The Watch GT 1S includes dual-band L1 and L5 high-precision GPS and motion sensors for stable tracking in urban and remote areas. It monitors heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, and sleep. The battery lasts up to 15 days. It has 5ATM water resistance. AI watch faces can be created using image-to-image or text-to-image customization.

The FreeHear 2 weighs 5.4g per earbud and uses a C-bridge clip design for a secure and natural fit. It features a 10.8mm dual-magnetic dynamic driver for spatial audio. Total battery life reaches up to 46 hours. A five-minute charge provides more than one hour of playback.

The MEGAPAD 2, Watch GT 1S, and FreeHear 2 will roll out in selected global markets during Q1 and Q2 2026. Pricing and regional specifications will be announced at local launches.

Tecno has quietly launched the Camon 50 and Camon 50 Pro smartphones in several African markets. Announced earlier than their expected reveal at MWC, the two phones share most of their specifications.

They both use the same processor, battery size, display specs, and much of the same camera hardware. However, the Pro model adds a dedicated 3x periscope telephoto camera. Here are the full specs. 

Tecno Camon 50 and Camon 50 Pro Specifications

Both the Tecno Camon 50 and the Tecno Camon 50 Pro run on MediaTek’s Helio G200 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. As for the storage, the Pro model has 256GB, while the standard version starts at 128GB. 

Powering both devices is a large 6,150mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging.

On the front, both phones feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The screens also include an in-display fingerprint scanner and a 32-megapixel selfie camera. 

The difference here is mostly aesthetic—the Pro model uses a curved panel, while the standard Camon 50 sticks with a flat display.

Around the back, both devices share the same 50-megapixel Sony LYT700C main sensor — the same camera used on last year’s Tecno Camon 40 Pro — alongside an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. The Camon 50 Pro, however, adds a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

Software-wise, both phones ship with TECNO’s HiOS 16 and come with an IP68/69/69K rating for dust and water resistance. Tecno is also including a One-Tap AI Key and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

In Kenya, the Camon 50 is priced at KES 37,500 (around $290), while the Camon 50 Pro comes in at KES 44,000 (around $340). Both devices are currently available for pre-order. Tecno hasn’t announced 5G versions yet, but with MWC 2026 on the horizon, those models could be next in line.

Not long ago, a smartphone with a 5000mAh battery meant a thick body that wasn’t very ergonomic in the hand. Fast forward to 2026, and we now have phones like the Tecno Pova Curve 2, which packs an 8000mAh battery into a slim 7mm body.

On paper, these numbers don’t seem like they belong together. But this is increasingly the direction parts of the smartphone industry are heading, especially among Chinese manufacturers willing to experiment with new battery chemistries.

Here’s how phones like the Pova Curve 2 fit a big battery into a compact body, and where Apple and Samsung stand among them.

From Graphite to Silicon-Carbon

Most smartphones today still use lithium-ion batteries with graphite anodes. (FYI, the anode is where lithium ions sit when the battery is charged.) Its long-standing use already shows how well graphite has worked for us. It’s stable, relatively inexpensive, and doesn’t expand much during charging. Meaning it’s safe for rigorous daily use.

However, graphite has its own limits. You can only store so much energy in it before you run out of room.

Enter silicon.

In theory, silicon can store nearly 10 times as much lithium per gram as graphite. That doesn’t mean your battery suddenly becomes ten times bigger, but it does allow manufacturers to increase energy density, i.e., more power in the same physical space.

The problem is that silicon expands dramatically when it absorbs lithium. In lab conditions, it can swell up to 300% (via Neware). So, no prize for guessing, silicon alone is not a good anode for a battery. 

That’s when companies began blending silicon with carbon, creating what we now know as a silicon-carbon (Si-C) anode.

Carbon acts as a stabilizing framework. It holds the silicon particles in place and absorbs some of the stress caused by expansion. The result is a battery that offers higher capacity than traditional graphite-based cells while remaining structurally stable enough for daily use.

It’s not perfect. Silicon-carbon batteries can degrade faster than pure graphite if not carefully managed. But the trade-offs are increasingly worth it for brands chasing bigger numbers without thicker designs.

Managing battery expansion

The expansion issue is the core engineering challenge here.

When lithium ions move into the anode during charging, the material swells. With graphite, this swelling is modest. With silicon, it’s much more dramatic. Over repeated charge cycles, the expansion and contraction can crack materials and reduce battery lifespan.

To deal with that, manufacturers use a few strategies:

• They break silicon into nano-sized particles, which handle expansion better than larger chunks.
• They embed those particles in a carbon matrix to distribute stress.
• They blend silicon with graphite rather than eliminating graphite.

The result is incremental improvement rather than a radical redesign. But incremental is enough when the goal is to squeeze extra capacity into the same space. That’s how phones are now crossing 7,000mAh and 8,000mAh thresholds without pushing past 8mm thickness.

The Timeline of Si/C batteries

Silicon-carbon batteries didn’t suddenly appear in 2026. The transition has been gradual.

Around 2023, some manufacturers began experimenting with small percentages of silicon in their battery anodes, often in the 5 to 10 percent range. The gains were modest but noticeable. Phones could squeeze in slightly larger batteries without adding thickness.

By 2024 and 2025, the technology became more common, particularly among Chinese brands. Silicon content increased incrementally. Energy density improved. And instead of seeing 5,000mAh as the upper boundary for slim phones, we started seeing 6,000mAh and beyond.

Now, 8,000mAh devices are entering the conversation without looking like rugged bricks.

And, it’s not just one company

Tecno isn’t alone in this race. The Honor Power, launched last year, features an 8000mAh cell in a body under 8mm thick. Likewise, the iQOO Z11 Turbo has a 7600mAh battery while measuring 8.1mm. 

The foldables like Honor Magic V5 also use a silicon-carbon battery, fitting over 6,000mAh into a thin foldable chassis. That’s significant because foldables have even less internal space to work with.

The common thread isn’t just capacity. It’s energy density. Companies are packing more watt-hours per cubic millimeter than before. That’s what makes these numbers possible without turning phones into thick slabs.

Why Apple and Samsung are late in this

If you’re wondering why the iPhone or Galaxy line hasn’t jumped to 8,000mAh yet, there are a few likely reasons.

A part of that is philosophical. Both Apple and Samsung prioritize battery longevity and long-term stability above everything else. Meanwhile, silicon-carbon batteries, while promising, are still relatively new at scale. 

Managing swelling, maintaining cycle life, and ensuring safety across millions of units isn’t trivial for these brands. This could be the reason why the two giants are moving conservatively with battery chemistry changes.

Regulation and logistics may play a role here. Shipping high-capacity lithium batteries across global markets involves strict certification standards. Some manufacturers are more aggressive in pushing the envelope within certain regions first.

That doesn’t mean Apple or Samsung can’t adopt silicon-carbon batteries. It just means they’re unlikely to lead the first wave.

What comes next

If silicon-carbon tech keeps improving, it’s not long before phones with 10,000mAh or larger batteries become common in the industry. In fact, Honor and Realme have already launched their 10,000mAh phones. 

Higher silicon percentages, improved anode structures, and better thermal management could push energy density even further without the bulk that older battery tech required. However, as inspiring as it looks, there are a few looming questions around silicon-carbon batteries, like:

• Battery life over years of use
• Heat management during fast charging
• Costs of advanced battery materials

These will shape how quickly the industry moves and which brands adopt the new tech first.

So, when I started using the Tecno Spark Go 3 as a daily phone, I was not looking for excitement. The goal was simple. Could a phone priced at Rs 8,999 handle everyday tasks without constantly reminding you of its limitations?

After spending time with it for calls, WhatsApp, YouTube, music streaming, and light photography, the Spark Go 3 turned out to be more usable than I expected, especially for users upgrading from older budget smartphones.

Practical design meant for daily handling

Despite the large display, the phone does not feel bulky. At 182.6g and just over 8mm thick, it is comfortable to hold for long calls or extended browsing sessions. The curved edges help with grip, and the overall build feels solid.

Tecno’s choice of colours adds a bit of personality without looking overdone. I have the black variant, and the retail package includes a textured back cover rather than a flimsy transparent one. The IP64 rating and drop-resistant build add peace of mind, especially for users who tend to be rough with their phones.

A large display that feels smoother than expected

The Spark Go 3 comes with a 6.74-inch display, which is genuinely large for this segment. Compared to the previous generation that featured a 6.67-inch panel with a punch-hole design, the screen size has increased slightly. That said, the Spark Go 3 uses a notch-style display, which feels like a small step backward in terms of modern design, though it does not affect usability in day-to-day use.

For watching videos, browsing social media, or reading content, the big screen immediately works in its favor. Text appears comfortable to read, and the overall viewing experience feels relaxed rather than cramped.

What stands out is the 120Hz refresh rate. This is still uncommon in entry-level phones, and it makes a noticeable difference during daily use. Scrolling through apps, swiping between screens, and navigating menus feels smoother than what most users would expect from a phone priced under Rs 9,000. The HD+ resolution keeps expectations realistic, but for most users, smoothness matters more than pixel density.

Outdoor visibility is also decent, thanks to the high brightness mode, making the phone usable under direct sunlight.

The good old 3.5mm audio jack has been retained, which will be appreciated by users who still prefer wired earphones. It is also worth noting that while the previous generation offered dual speakers, the Spark Go 3 comes with a single speaker. The output is decent for calls, videos, and casual music listening, even if it does not offer stereo separation.

Decent cameras

The 13-megapixel rear camera is straightforward and predictable. In good lighting, photos come out with acceptable detail and natural colours. The camera app is easy to use, and features like AI Flash Snap help in low-light situations, although expectations should remain realistic.

The 8MP front camera handles video calls and selfies reliably, making it suitable for online classes, work calls, and everyday social media use.

This is not a camera phone, but it delivers consistent results for basic photography needs.

Performance that stays stable for everyday tasks

Powering the Spark Go 3 is the Unisoc T7250 processor, paired with 4GB RAM and an additional 4GB virtual RAM through memory fusion. On paper, this setup is modest, but in daily use, it holds up well.

Core apps like WhatsApp, YouTube, music streaming platforms, and web browsers run smoothly. Light multitasking does not feel frustrating, and the phone manages casual games without major hiccups. For users moving up from older entry-level phones, the difference in responsiveness will be noticeable.

Storage expansion is also supported via a microSD card slot, which is useful for users who rely heavily on offline media, photos, or videos.

Tecno’s claim of long-term lag-free performance will need time to be proven, but initial usage suggests the software has been optimized reasonably well.

The 5,000mAh battery is one of the Spark Go 3’s strongest points. With moderate use, including calls, messaging, video streaming, and music playback, the phone comfortably lasts a full day and often stretches into the next.

The phone supports 15W fast charging, but a 10W charger is provided in the box, which is in line with expectations at this price.

Software experience with useful AI touches

Running HiOS 15 based on Android 15, the software experience feels feature-rich for the segment. Tecno has focused on practical AI features rather than flashy additions. AI noise reduction improves call clarity, AI song identification works reliably, and Ella AI supports Indian languages, which adds real value for local users.

Ella works as a voice assistant for basic tasks such as setting reminders, checking information, opening apps, and handling simple voice commands, making it particularly useful for first-time smartphone users and those more comfortable interacting in regional languages rather than typing.

Another welcome inclusion is the infrared sensor, allowing the phone to function as a remote control for compatible appliances. This is a feature many users still find genuinely useful.

Tecno also includes its FreeLink feature, which enables device-to-device communication without mobile network coverage. I could not test this feature as it works only between supported Tecno smartphones, but it can be handy in areas with poor network connectivity or during emergencies.

Who is the Tecno Spark Go 3 meant for?

At Rs 8,999, the Tecno Spark Go 3 is clearly aimed at first-time smartphone users, students, parents, and anyone looking for a dependable secondary phone. It is not designed for power users or heavy gaming, and it does not try to be.

Instead, it focuses on delivering a smooth display, reliable battery life, stable everyday performance, and practical features that make daily usage easier. For its price, that combination makes the Spark Go 3 a sensible and well-rounded option in the entry-level segment.

Listed under the model number KM4s, the Tecno Pop 10 comes with 4GB of RAM and runs on Android 15. It is powered by the Spreadtrum UMS9230E processor, which includes two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 1.80GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.60GHz. The phone also features the ARM Mali G57 GPU for graphics. It is worth mentioning that this processor does not support 5G connectivity, but offers 4G LTE.

The listing mentions an HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a pixel density of 280 DPI. This confirms that the Pop 10 will focus on basic performance and display quality suitable for daily use. Since the model name is already visible on the Play Console, it is likely that Tecno will announce the phone officially very soon.

Its predecessor, the Pop 9 4G launched last year with a 6.67-inch HD+ LCD display offering a 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on a MediaTek Helio G50 chipset paired with 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. Tecno Pova Slim 5G specifications and features

The Pova Slim 5G features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1224 x 2720 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 4500 nits. For photography, the phone is equipped with a 50-megapixel primary rear camera and a 13-megapixel selfie camera.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6400-powered smartphone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot for storage expansion. It runs on HiOS 15-based Android 15.

Despite packing an ultra-thin body, the device houses a 5160mAh battery that supports 45W wired fast charging and 10W reverse wired charging. When it comes to durability, the Pova Slim’s screen features a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. For dust and water resistance, the device carries an IP64 rating.

After teasing its ultra-thin concept phone earlier this year, Tecno has officially launched the Tecno Spark Slim and Tecno Pova Slim. Both devices keep the spotlight on thinness, while still packing in surprisingly powerful hardware.

The Spark Slim measures just 5.75mm, nearly identical to the concept version shown off months ago. Inside that frame, Tecno managed to squeeze in a 5,160mAh battery, made possible by its custom Honeycomb space stacking technology. 

The battery itself is just 4.04mm thick, while the phone also has a razor-thin 0.3mm vapor chamber that helps keep thermals under control. To top it off, both phones use an aerospace-grade fiberglass back measuring only 0.36mm.

On the outside, the Spark Slim also gets a unique touch: a Mood Light LED bar that brings multi-scene lighting effects and animated notifications. Both phones share a 50MP main rear camera, but Tecno seems to be betting more on design and display than on a heavy camera system.

Speaking of display, both the Spark Slim and Pova Slim come with curved AMOLED screens, offering a smooth 144Hz refresh rate and an impressive 4,500 nits peak brightness. Under the hood, the Spark Slim runs on MediaTek’s Helio G200, while the Pova Slim is powered by the Dimensity 6400, giving it 5G support out of the box.

The phone supports 45W wired charging and 10W reverse wired charging, and boots on Android 15 (HiOS skin), complete with Tecno’s latest AI-powered features.

The company has not revealed the price or availability details yet. Tecno has an event scheduled for September 4 for this.

Tecno has officially described the Pova Slim 5G as the world’s slimmest 3D curved display 5G smartphone. Scheduled to launch on Sept. 4, it will be sold via Flipkart in India.

It is designed with an ultra-thin body while maintaining essentials for everyday use. The phone will feature what Tecno calls a “Too Slim To Be True” design with a Dynamic Mood Light that reacts to calls and notifications, adding a personalized touch to the user experience.

The rear of the phone features a sleek horizontal camera module with two lenses placed on either side. An integrated LED strip curves around both cameras and connects across the middle, creating a futuristic light effect that adds character to the design.

While Tecno hasn’t confirmed the core specs of the device, it has revealed that the device will be equipped with Eila AI, which will have support for multiple languages.
