Kingdom Eighties will be playable on Android and iPhones starting this fall

Kingdom Eighties is a single-player action tower defense game developed by Raw Fury. The video game was launched for PC in June and now the developer might have confirmed its arrival on Android and iPhones.

At Gamescom 2023, Raw Fury confirmed to Android Police that Kingdom Eighties is coming to Android and iOS this fall, likely in October. Gordon Van Dyke, Kingdom franchise creative director and co-founder of Raw Fury, even showed the outlet a working prototype of Kingdom Eighties running on an iPhone 14. He assured that the game would offer the same features and capabilities on Android, iOS, and desktop platforms.

Android Police notes the gameplay on mobile is similar to the desktop version, but there’s no co-op mode. Gordon Van Dyke told the publication that Including a co-op mode would have meant doing more design work, which could have made it tricky to finish the first story-driven installment of Kingdom. As a result, it was decided to omit the mode from the mobile version.

However, Survival Mixtape Mode, a recently announced feature for the desktop version of the game, will be available on mobile right from launch. After completing the campaign, players can revisit previously explored locations and challenge themselves to survive as long as possible against time. The mode includes a three-tiered high-score system to track the player’s progress.

To give you an idea, Kingdom Eighties serves as an expansion to the Kingdom series, inviting players to get back into a world of intricate micro-management and base construction. As the developers explain, the goal in the latest installment is to protect your town from the relentless Greed while also unraveling the mysteries surrounding your family’s heritage.

Currently, the Kingdom Eighties is available on PC. It can also be played on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch.

Samsung rumored to launch a rollable screen smartphone in 2025

Popular tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) recently revealed that Samsung will begin mass production of rollable screen smartphones by 2025, setting the stage for a revolutionary shift in smartphone design and functionality. The upcoming phones are touted to showcase advanced Under Panel Camera (UPC) technology and a cutting-edge bezel-less design.

From foldables to rollables: Samsung eyes 2025

This recent revelation aligns with Samsung’s prior showcases of their innovative screen technologies. At the 2022 K-Display event, Samsung turned heads by unveiling prototype models of rollable screens, foldable tablets, and intriguingly named products like “Flex G” and “Flex S.” Given their track record, Samsung’s foray into rollable screen smartphones isn’t wholly unexpected.

Another testament to their dedication to flexible displays came at the 2023 SID Display Week in the U.S., where Samsung Display presented a 12.4-inch flexible rollable OLED panel. This panel captivated attendees by stretching from a compact 49 millimeters to an impressive 254.4 millimeters, offering a transformative 5-fold magnification.

Samsung flexible display

The buzz around the anticipated borderless design also stirs significant interest. Korean media giant, The Elec, has previously reported collaborations between Samsung, LG, and Apple, targeting the development of OLED displays without any front-facing borders. The vision? Achieve a display with zero border width, providing users with an immersive and uninterrupted visual experience.

Apple has also submitted a patent for a device incorporating a rollable or scrollable display, indicating potential integration into future products like iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks. According to a past report, Apple is working to launch a foldable screen MacBook in 2026.

Meeting such ambitious design goals necessitates further advancements in display technology. Both Samsung Display and LG Display are on a mission to refine the Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE) and Under Panel Camera (UPC) technologies.

However, they also face the challenge of ensuring adequate antenna space in these futuristic designs. As these tech giants grapple with these technological nuances, the industry and consumers eagerly await a new era of smartphone innovation.

Pixel Tablet upcoming stylus features leak: Freehand to text, Gesture support

In July 2023, we reported that Google Pixel phones and the newly released Pixel Tablet received an Android security update. The update was primarily focused on bug fixes and security enhancements. After the update’s release, new reports regarding the Pixel tablet have emerged online, one of which is that the tablet received updated Stylus handwriting support.

Pixel Tablet Stylus update post 1

In a recent post by Mishaal Rahman, it was mentioned that the Pixel Tablet supports the USI 2.0 stylus. Once you connect a USI 2.0 stylus pen to the tablet, you will be able to see two new options, “Default Notes App” and “Write in Text Field.” The details about the options are provided below:

Writing in Text Field

Once you click on the writing-in-text field option, your freehand writing will be converted to text inside the device, which can later be edited or deleted.

Pixel Tablet Stylus update post 2

Try out your styles (Gboard’s new stylus)

You can click on “try it” to open a box where you can test Gboard’s new stylus handwriting gestures. These include gestures for writing with the stylus, deleting, selecting, inserting, putting words together, and making new lines.

One thing to note is that some of these features are not working at the moment, including Gboard’s new stylus. It may be because the device is missing the compatible Android version. As we all are aware, it was recently reported that Android 14 comes with improvements in keyboard and stylus integration.

We will have to wait and see if these features will be included in the upcoming update for the Google Pixel Tablet.

Google Pixel 8a (Akita) allegedly spotted on Geekbench with underclocked Tensor G3

We’ve all heard the leaks and rumors about the Pixel 8 series, especially the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The lineup is also expected to include the Pixel 8a, but there has been very little information about it until now. However, a device with the model name “Google Akita” has recently appeared on Geekbench, and it is believed to be the Pixel 8a.

The Geekbench listing for the Akita smartphone reveals that it will be powered by an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 chipset and the Mali-G715 GPU. A recent listing of the tablet on Samsung’s Hungary website revealed that the device will come in Lavender, Mint, Grey/Graphite, and Silver colors. It will be offered in 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configurations.

As per a Geekbench listing of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ will be powered by an Exynos 1380 SoC under the hood. It will run on Android 13 OS. Meanwhile, the CAD-based renders revealed a boxy design with dual rear camera sensors and a vertical strip running below suggesting support for S-Pen.

iPhone 15 to come with long but slow USB-C cable

Apple is expected to switch all iPhone 15 models to USB-C ports this year. USB-C is more versatile and efficient than Lightning, but the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models may not see any improvement in data transfer speeds.

Slow USB-C cable for iPhone 15/15 Plus

According to Apple leaker Majin Bu, the standard iPhone 15 models will ship with USB-C cables that are limited to USB 2.0 speeds, which is 480 MBps. This is the same speed as Lightning. And charging will be the same too, capped at 20W.

While the standard models are rumored to only support USB 2.0 speeds, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to support much faster USB-C transfer speeds.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro models could support “at least” USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, which can offer transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps.

This is significantly faster than the 480 Mbps offered by USB 2.0. As a result, iPhone 15 Pro models will be able to transfer videos and other large files much more quickly than the standard iPhone 15 models.

Moreover, reports suggest that each iPhone 15 will come with a thicker, more durable braided USB-C charging cable that is 50% longer than the Lightning cable that comes with current iPhone models. The cables are also rumored to be color-matched to the new iPhone colors, which may include black, white, yellow, blue, and orange.

The leak also suggests that the iPhone 15 will not require a Made for iPhone (MFI) certification chip on its USB-C charging cable. This is contrary to previous rumors that Apple would limit or throttle data speeds for cables that were not MFI-certified.
