Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones to reportedly launch on September 7 in China

Huawei has not been focusing on smartphones as much as it used to before the United States imposed sanctions on the company, but it continues to launch smartphones in the market to stay relevant.

The company is gearing up to launch the next-generation Mate-series flagship smartphone in the Chinese market, dubbed Huawei Mate 50 series. While the company has not yet confirmed that launch date, it has been leaked online.

Huawei Mate 50 Series Render Leak

As per the latest report, the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones could be launched on 7th September in the Chinese market. The lineup will reportedly include four models — Huawei Mate 50e, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS.

The smartphones are rumored to be powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 9000S processor, which is expected to be a tweaked version of the Kirin 9000 SoC. Recently, it was reported that the Mate 50 RS might not be powered by the company’s in-house developed Kirin 9000S processor because of the lack of stock for the Kirin-series chips.

The Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones are expected to come with new features for the camera department, along with support for Huawei Image XMAGE. The phones could also have upgraded internals compared to their predecessor but will still be 4G-only.

In line with other smartphones from Huawei, the upcoming lineup will also come running the company’s own HarmonyOS 3.0, which is called HongMeng OS in China.

As the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphone is expected to take place on 7th September, we expect the company to soon make an announcement for the launch date and start teasing the upcoming phone’s features.

Samsung reportedly cuts production due to slowdown in global demand

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, has reportedly cut down production of its devices at the massive plant in Vietnam due to the global fall in consumer spending

The report, coming from Reuters, cites employees as the source. The scale back of production comes as the retailers and warehouses deal with a rising inventory.

samsung logo ces booth featured

As per the report, America’s largest warehouse market is full and the major retailers in the United States have warned of slowing sales given that shoppers are not spending as much as they used to before and during the early era of the pandemic.

One of the workers at the plant told Reuters, “We are going to work just three days per week, some lines are adjusting to a four-day workweek instead of six before, and of course, no overtime is needed.”

The manufacturing plant in Vietnam’s northern province of Thai Nguyen has been the most affected. It is one of the two mobile manufacturing bases in the country where Samsung produces half of its smartphones.

While Samsung says that it has not discussed reducing its annual production target in Vietnam, the South Korean giant is optimistic about smartphone demand in the second half of the year as it said during its earnings call last week that supply disruptions had mostly been resolved and that demand would either stay flat or see single-digit growth.

The tipster did not mention whether the Galaxy S23 Ultra would have an Exynos variant. According to a previous report, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will be used in the entire S23 lineup that will be released around the world.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery. The tipster claimed that its successor would also pack a 5,000mAh battery. OnePlus 10T vs OPPO Reno8 Pro: Specs Comparison

OnePlus 10T just made its debut in the global market alongside the OxygenOS 13, while the launch of the rebranded version OnePlus Ace Pro was postponed after the tensions between China and Taiwan following Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island. The OnePlus 10T offers the best hardware you can expect in 2022 and amazing performance, but its price is all but excessive, even in the European markets. But there is another handset that will debut soon in these markets after being launched in India: the global version of the OPPO Reno8 Pro. This is a comparison between the main specifications of the OnePlus 10T and the OPPO Reno8 Pro Global. Note that the Global version of the Reno is different from the Chinese one: consider it as a rebrand of the device known in China as the Reno8 Pro Plus.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES 5G, dual SIM 5G, dual SIM

Design

The most refined design belongs to the OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G, at least in my opinion. First of all, it has narrower bezels around the display, with the screen covering more than 90 percent of the front panel. It is made with premium materials: the rear side is made of glass, while the frame is aluminum, while the OnePlus 10T has a glass back and a plastic frame. The front glass of the Reno is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, one of the most advanced protection by Corning, and the same is for the rear glass and the front glass of the 10T. The Reno has a thinner and lighter design: it weighs just 183 grams and is 7.3 mm thick, while the OnePlus weighs more than 200 grams and is 8.8 mm thick. In my opinion, there is no challenge here: OPPO made a better device in terms of design.

Display

The displays of the OnePlus 10T and the OPPO Reno8 Pro Global should be exactly the same panel because the specifications are the same. They come with an AMOLED display sporting a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. These displays are able to show up to one billion colors with great accuracy and they include an in-display fingerprint reader. We are not talking about the most advanced panels in the market, but they are definitely among the most advanced ones. Both the handsets come with stereo speakers, but they have no audio jack. As already mentioned above, the displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and they have very narrow bezels, but the bezels are narrower on the Reno. The displays come with punch holes placed in the central part.

Specs & Software

The best and most powerful hardware department belongs to the OnePlus 10T. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform: currently the best processor by Qualcomm. It is an SoC built at 4 nm with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A710 CPUs running at a frequency of 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. The chipset is paired with a very advanced cooling system, up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. There are also configurations with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of native storage. The OPPO Reno8 Pro is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max mobile platform built at 5 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.85 GHz: it is comparable to the Snapdragon 888 by Qualcomm and it is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Both the phones run Android 12 out of the box and they have similar user interfaces: ColorOS 12.1 and OxygenOS 12.

Camera

The camera sensors placed on the rear sides of these two phones are exactly the same: they sport a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera. But there are two important differences: the OnePlus 10T includes optical stabilization (OIS), while the OPPO Reno8 Pro is aided by the MariSilicon X proprietary NPU improving night photography. The selfie cameras are different: the Reno is superior thanks to its 32 MP selfie shooter, while the 10T has an inferior 16 MP front camera.

Battery

The battery life of the OnePlus 10T will be longer thanks to the presence of a bigger 4800 mAh battery. This phone will even charge quicker thanks to 150W fast charging. The OPPO Reno8 Pro has a 4500 mAh battery with 80W fast charging.

Price

The OnePlus 10T is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India which roughly translates into $632, while the OPPO Reno8 Pro costs Rs. 45,999 or $581. Which of these phones would you pick?

EV maker Nio incorporates mobile phone arm, could deliver first phone in 2023

The dividing line between EV manufacturing and mobile technologies can be a fuzzy one. Some tech brands have mooted diversifying to EV manufacturing. Now, popular Chinese EV company Nio has entered the mobile technology space. The incorporation of Nio Mobile Technologies Co. Ltd is now official. The entity is wholly owned by Nio and it has scaled the needed regulatory requirements. The new company has a registered capital of $100 million.Nio

The legal representative of the new Nio tech company is Qin Lihong, Nio’s co-founder and current president. The registered address of Nio Mobile Technologies is the global HQ of Nio in Anting, Shanghai. The new company is officially a software developer and AI hardware developer. It is the first of Nio’s growing subsidiaries that specifically targets the mobile tech business. The rumored Nio phone is speculated to arrive next year. The Nio CEO was earlier quoted as saying that the company is planning to develop a mobile phone that will launch once a year.

Nio already has substantial capabilities in mobile technologies through its highly connected Nio EVs. The models take full advantage of advanced technologies to deliver a great experience using the Nio EVs. It is expected that the Nio phone when it arrives, will fit snugly into the Nio ecosystem and deliver a seamless driving experience. There is no definitive official statement from Nio yet on its smartphone plans.Nio mobile technology

In any case, a Nio phone could be a delight to behold. It will likely build on the exquisite design of the Nio EVs and incorporate a suite of exciting features. It is also speculated that the Nio phone will be less expensive than an iPhone.

NIO isn’t the first Chinese EV maker that has made an attempt to venture into other segments of the tech market. Last year, BYD launched a smartwatch that can be used to unlock its cars.

Stellantis overtakes Tesla in H1 2022 EV sales in Europe, Volkswagen tops

Sales numbers released for the first half of 2022 show that Stellantis had the second-best performance in EV sales in Europe. The latest figures were cited by Automotive News Europe. Volkswagen led the pack with 116k units sold, followed by Stellantis and Tesla for H1 2022. The company’s surge was powered by strong sales of the Fiat New 500, amidst strong quarterly sales in western Europe.Stellantis

Stellantis was born from the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and its mission is to become Europe’s top-selling EV brand. Stellantis has its work cut out with global leader Tesla still holding the aces in some sense. Tesla’s Model Y still recorded the highest number of individual sales in Europe for H1 2022 with about 40k units sold. The Stellantis Group is a combination of French, Italian, and American interests. The data covers 27 countries of the European Union plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland. Registration data for Portugal, Finland, and Sweden were not part of the dataset due to their unavailability. The Peugeot e-208 EV also provided strong headwinds for Stellantis. It is a sub-compact hatchback and was the best-selling model in France within Q2 2022. Stellantis also enjoyed resurgent sales of its full-electric passenger vans like the Citroen e-Berlingo and the Opel Combo-e sibling.Tesla Logo

Tesla had seen its European volume decline but it still has some strong individual sales. Apart from the Model Y, Tesla’s Model 3 sold about 38k units in Europe during the period and ranked second. The third and fourth best-selling models were the Fiat New 500 and Peugeot e-208, with the Skoda Enyaq IV coming fifth. The outlook for H2 remains bright in Europe. Tesla is expected to deliver up to 200,000 units of EVs within the period. Stellantis expects to build on the positive spin in the next quarter.

Presently, Norway is the only country in Europe where BYD currently sells passenger cars with the Tang electric SUV the only product on offer there. Models based on the automaker’s e-platform 3.0 and powered by BYD Blade Batteries with LFP chemistry and a cell-to-pack technology are likely to be added to the portfolio in Germany and Sweden.BYD

With the announcement that it will begin selling its plug-in passenger cars in Germany and Sweden starting in the fourth quarter of this year, Chinese automaker BYD Auto continues its rapid international development.

In order to distribute and market its passenger cars in Sweden and Germany, BYD has appointed the European dealer group Hedin Mobility Group. This follows the market launches of its vehicles in Australia in February, Japan last month, and the Netherlands in September.BYD

Android 13 for Realme GT 2 Pro is here via Early Access program

Yesterday, Oppo started recruiting Open Beta testers for ColorOS 13 based on Android 13. Now, a day later, the company’s sister brand Realme has also opened registrations for a similar beta program for one of its devices.

Realme GT 2 Pro colors

In official announcement posts on Relame Community, Realme says that it has begun to recruit Android 13 Early Access testers for the Realme GT 2 Pro in China and India.

For the unaware, Relame’s ‘Early Access’ program is merely a fancy name for the ‘Closed Beta’ initiative carried out by Oppo and OnePlus. Hence, software builds released for these testers are buggy in nature and may not be suitable to use on a daily driver smartphone.

Hence, enroll in the program only if you are used to unstable software. The brand has only allocated limited seats for both regions. Unfortunately, it does not mention the exact number.

Selected applicants will get the Android 13 beta update via OTA. Testers who are not satisfied with the experience of the beta software can roll back to the stable channel. However, this process will wipe the device’s internal storage and the unit cannot be enrolled again in the beta channel.

Realme is yet to officially announce its Android 13 software, which will be likely called Realme UI 4.0 and will be based on Oppo’s ColorOS 13. Whereas, another clone of Oppo’s software dubbed OxygenOS 13 was unveiled yesterday by OnePlus along with supported smartphones.
