It makes sense for the OnePlus Buds Z to be cheaper than the original OnePlus given that the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z is also priced cheaper when compared to the Bullets Wireless earphones.

Currently, there’s no information available about the TWS earphones, including its features, pricing, or availability. However, we expect more details to surface online in the coming weeks as the launch date nears.

Huawei has limited stock of Kirin 9000 chipsets for Mate 40 series smartphones

Huawei has been cut-off from the rest of the world when it comes to procuring chipsets or other semiconductor components that users American technology. This is because of the sanctions imposed by the United States, which is also affecting the company’s vendors.

Because of the sanctions, it is impossible for the company to manufacture its flagship Kirin chipsets, and thus, the company had earlier confirmed that the upcoming Kirin 9000 SoC could be the last flagship chipset from Huawei.

For those who are unaware, the Kirin 9000 SoC will be powering the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series flagship smartphones. Now, it has been revealed that the Chinese giant has about 10 million units of Kirin 9000 SoC, so there could be 10 million units of Mate 40 series phones available for purchase.

Another report coming from China claims that Huawei has about 8.8 million units of 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset available. The chipset could last for about a few months before the company runs out of it.

As for the Huawei Mate 40 series, the company is expected to launch three models — Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro+, all of which will come with EMUI 11 based on the Android 10 operating system with support for some advanced features.

Huawei is expected to hold an online launch event for the Mate 40 series as well as the Kirin 9000 SoC next month. The China launch is expected to take place in mid-October while the devices could go official in the UK next year.

Huawei Mate 40 series with 5nm Kirin 9000 5G SoC likely to debut in mid-October; UK launch confirmed

Last year, Huawei unveiled the Mate 30 series in September. It appears that due to the US sanctions the Mate 40 series is unlikely to launch this month. According to a new report on Winfutrue.de, Huawei will be holding the Huawei Mate 40 series livestream unveil event by mid-October in China. As far as global release is concerned, the Mate 40 series may hit the European markets by next year.

At the recently held Huawei Developers Conference (HDC) in China, the Consumer Business Group head for Huawei, Richard Yu confirmed that the Mate 40 series will be debuting soon. Also, the UK wing of the company has confirmed through a tweet that the next generation Huawei Mate will break cover soon.  As reliable tipster Evan Blass had revealed earlier, the Mate 40 series may release in the international markets in the coming year.

Apple recently unveiled the Apple A14 Bionic as the world’s first 5nm chipset. The publication revealed that Huawei will be the first brand to launch a 5nm chipset with a built-in 5G modem. The 5nm Kirin 9000 with 5G support is expected to power the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+.

Apple’s 5nm A14 SoC requires an external modem for LTE connectivity. As far as the Mate 40 is concerned, it is likely to feature the Kirin 9000E which is said to be an enhanced version of the Kirin 990 5G chipset. The report also states that the Mate 40 series will offer faster charging capabilities than the predecessor series.

While the Mate 40 series will come with beefed up cameras, it will not feature Google Mobile Services due to the U.S. sanctions. Earlier this month, it was reported that Huawei has reduced component orders for the Mate 40 series by 30 percent as its likely expected a dip in interest and shipments.

The Vivo V20 comes in two colors such as Midnight Jazz and Sunset Melody.

Vivo V20 Pro specifications

The teasers released by Vivo Thailand suggest that the Vivo V20 series will come with 5G connectivity. Based on the above leaks, it seems that only the Vivo V20 Pro will support 5G as it is a rebranded Vivo S7 5G.

The Vivo S7 5G comes with a 6.44-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ display with a wide notch for a 44-megapixel + 8-megapixel (depth) dual selfie camera system. Its other specs include Snapdragon 765G, 4,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (depth) triple camera system, and in-screen fingerprint sensor.

iPad Air 4 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 vs Huawei MatePad 10.8: Specs Comparison

During yesterday’s keynote, Apple launched the new 4th generation iPad Air. It is definitely one of the most interesting tablets of the year because it is powered by the new Apple A14 Bionic chipset: the same we will find in the iPhone 12 lineup. But is it worth choosing the last Apple’s tablet or there is something even more interesting in the Android world? In order to establish it, we compared the latest iPad with the flagships Android tablets Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Huawei MatePad 10.8. The former brings 5G connectivity, while the latter is offered at a very good price. Let’s see which one is the best depending on the users’ needs.

Design

Thanks to their narrower bezels, the iPad Air 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 bring more elegant and futuristic designs to the market. The Apple iPad Air 4 has a cleaner look on the rear side, as well as a lighter body: that is the reason why it is my favorite one. But the Samsung Galaxy S7 has a slightly higher screen-to-body ratio. Both come with an aluminum body just like premium laptops. All of these tablets support an external keyboard and a stylus, with the S Pen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 being the most convincing stylus of the trio and the Apple Smart Keyboard being the best keyboard.

Display

Overall, the most wonderful display of this comparison belongs to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. Unlike its rivals, it features a high 120 Hz refresh rate and the HDR10+ certification. While the image quality provided should not be so different from the Apple iPad Air 4, it offers a smoother viewing experience thanks to its high refresh rate. Unfortunately, no one of these tablets has an AMOLED panel. Despite its affordable price, Huawei MatePad 10.8 still comes with a very nice QHD+ display.

Hardware/Software

The most performing tablet of the trio is the Apple iPad 4 for two reasons: it has a better (and more efficient) chipset (the Apple A13 Bionic built at 5 nm) and a greatly-optimized operating system. We are naturally talking about iPadOS 14, which is also a better operating system for productivity than Android. Well, with the Samsung Galaxy S7 you get the DeX mode turning it into a desktop PC if you connect it to an external monitor, but in the tablet mode, the iPad Air 4 has no rivals. In terms of hardware, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is superior to the Huawei MatePad 10.8 thanks to its Snapdragon 865+ chipset. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is also the only tablet of this comparison to support 5G.

Camera

The main 12 MP camera found on the Apple iPad Air 4 actually provides a better photo quality and it wins the camera comparison. It is a 12 MP sensor that can record videos in 4K resolution @ 60 fps. Despite the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 has an inferior main camera, it offers something more interesting since it packs an ultrawide secondary sensor. The Huawei MatePad 10.8 does not have a bad camera, but it is less interesting than its opponents.

Battery

Unfortunately, we still do not know how much Apple iPad Air 4 will exactly last on a single charge because no one had the chance to test it as it was announced yesterday. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 has a bigger battery than Huawei MatePad 10.8 and it should last more if you do not use the 5G connectivity. Further, it has the fastest charging tech with a 45W power.

Price

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 has a €700/$650 starting price globally, Huawei MatePad 10.8 is priced just €300/$355 in China, and Apple iPad Air 4 starts from €640/$599. Huawei MatePad 10.8 loses the comparison but it has a higher value for money. The iPad Air 4 wins the comparison due to its great operating system, better cameras, and good performance, but Samsung Galaxy S7 is slightly more interesting on the paper because it has 5G, a 120 Hz display, DeX mode, and more interesting features.

Global Application Processor Market declined 26% in Q2 2020

Smartphones are nothing without the chipsets powering them. This type of silicons are known as application processors (AP). According to the latest report by Counterpoint Research, the Global Application Processor Market declined 26% in Q2 2020.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip

As expected, Qualcomm led the market with a 29% share, closely followed by MediaTek with a 26% share. Whereas, Huawei’s HiSilicon came at third position with a 16% share while Apple and Samsung tied in fourth place with 13% share each. Lastly, Unisoc obtained the fifth position with a 4% share.

Out of the above-mentioned top players, Qualcomm, Samsung and Unisoc witnessed a decline in their market share compared to the previous year. On the other hand, MediaTek, Huawei, and Apple showed improvements.

Neil Shah, VP of Research at Counterpoint says that Qualcomm’s decline was partly because of the increased usage of HiSilicon chips by Huawei, in addition to the overall drop of the global smartphone market as a result of the pandemic. Although HiSilicon’s market share improved a lot compared to others in the second quarter, its future is uncertain as Huawei can no longer manufacture them.

The executive also added that 5G smartphone sales more than doubled in Q2 2020 than the previous quarter. Hence, this trend will try to offset the overall decline in H1 2020 and will play an important factor for growth in 2021.

Strict US restrictions on Huawei and 5G will help Qualcomm, MediaTek and Unisoc to gain more market share.  Research Analyst Shobhit Srivastava mentioned that OPPO, realme, vivo and Xiaomi will use chipsets from the former two companies to fill the void that Huawei may leave behind.

Global Application Processpr AP Market Share Q2 2020 Counterpoint Research

Qualcomm could be more beneficial in the $400+ (wholesale) price segment, especially in China where Huawei currently dominates with over 40% market share. The American chipmaker could also gain share in the mid to high-end segment in Europe.

On the other hand, MediaTek will become popular with the help of its affordable 4G and 5G offerings in markets like China. Russia, and Middle East & Africa (MEA) as realme and Xiaomi will try to eat up Huawei’s share in these regions.

Last but not least, 5G will also increase the number of affordable gaming smartphones with features like high refresh rate displays powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon G and MediaTek helio G series of chips.

This is what the Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 look like; SpO2 sensor confirmed

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 smartwatches will be unveiled next week but we don’t have to wait that long to know what Huami’s new products look like. The manufacturer has shared a poster that gives us an early look at both products.

Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2

As seen above, the Amazfit GTR 2 has a more classy look. The bezels are smaller and the glass covering the display tapers at the edge where it meets the watch case. It also appears the overall thickness has been reduced. The image shows that Amazfit GTR 2 will ship with a black leather strap. Of course, there will be other variants too.

For the Amazfit GTS 2, Huami is sticking to a square dial and not switching to a round dial as previously reported. We think this is a good decision seeing as not everyone likes round dials.

Huami has switched up the design and it looks less like the Apple Watch now. The display is still curved at the edges but the gray watch frame now encloses the single button on the right. Attached to the watch is a matching rubber strap.

Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 Blood Oxygen

Alongside the image of the watches, Huami has also confirmed that the GTR 2 and GTS 2 will have support for blood oxygen detection. The Weibo post by the company’s CEO also reveals that there is also a new feature that tracks breathing while sleeping. The breathing score given to the user will be based on the fatigue level during the day and if the user snores at night.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are scheduled to launch in China on September 22.

We have no details about the specs or the pricing of this upcoming Elephone smartwatch model. However, considering how its previous W6 smartwatch was pretty feature-packed, we can expect the new model to come loaded with similar functionality. Basic features like  real continuous heart rate monitor, blood pressure monitor, blood oxygen monitor, and sleep monitor are expected on the new watch apart from the usual exercise tracking features.

Elephone is known for super cheap products and the existing Elephone W6 watch too retails for less than $30. Considering this, we can expect this new model to be pretty aggressively priced, targeted at budget customers.

We don’t know when we’ll get more details about this device, but you can check out the Elephone website for updates. The watch should be announced by the end of September.
