As tensions continue to rise between the Indian and Chinese governments following a clash at their borders earlier this month, the former has announced today a list of 59 Chinese mobile apps that have been banned in the country. The list includes popular apps such as TikTok, UC Browser, the mobile game Clash of Kings, and apps from Xiaomi.

TikTok and 56 other apps banned by the Indian Government

The Indian Government of India says the reason for the ban is because of security and privacy concerns. It stated that the apps are engaged in activities that put the security of the state and the defense of the country at risk and that the matter requires emergency measures.

The official statement said the government is “invoking its power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009”.

It was also stated that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center has sent a recommendation for blocking the malicious apps

Huawei’s 2021 flagship could use a third-party 5nm chipset

Last year, Huawei was faced with an enormous task of finding a replacement for Google Apps. Its solution was to develop Huawei Mobile Services and investing in its AppGallery app store. But next year, Huawei will face an even bigger challenge – chipsets. With TSMC barred from manufacturing chips for Huawei’s chip subsidiary – Hisilicon, the company will be forced to look for alternatives very soon.

According to an industry insider on Weibo, Huawei’s flagship smartphones in 2021 could be powered by a 5nm chip from a third party vendor. The insider didn’t expand on his comment but the most likely contender for Huawei’s chip supply should be none other than MediaTek.

This comment by the insider is a bit confusing especially if you have been reading reports about the 5nm Kirin 1000 or 1020 that’s all set to launch this year. But here, he’s talking about 5nm chips for Huawei’s 2021 flagships and not the upcoming Mate 40.

TSMC Can Still Supply Chips To Huawei Until September 2020

In May 2020, the Trump administration added a new rule which barred overseas companies from supplying components to Huawei if it was made using US technology. Given how US equipment plays an important role in manufacturing semiconductor chips, this technically bars TSMC, SMIC, and even Samsung from manufacturing chips for Huawei. However, the US has granted a grace period of 120-days before the rule takes into effect. So TSMC can continue supplying chips to Hisilicon until September 15, 2020.

There was also a recent report which said that Huawei has placed an urgent order with the TSMC for 5nm chips. This means Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 1000 or 1020 (name is yet to be confirmed) 5nm chipset can still be manufactured by TSMC and released on schedule.

But What About Huawei’s 2021 flagships?

Unless the US government extends the grace period after September, TSMC, or for that matter even the Chinese SMIC cannot manufacture chips for Hisilicon. This would leave Huawei with very limited options. An alternative could be to procure 5nm chips from a third-party vendor so that Huawei’s flagships next year are competitive, even without its own Hisilicon chips.

MediaTek Dimensity 800 — MediaTek’s Dimensity series looks promising this year!

Since Qualcomm is a US company, it’s not a viable alternative. This leaves either MediaTek or even Samsung as the potential vendor of next-generation 5nm chips for Huawei.

But it remains to be seen if Samsung or MediaTek can legally sell its own chips to Huawei that’s manufactured using US technology. There are reports which say TSMC and Samsung are looking at setting up production lines without US equipment but we haven’t heard anything concrete yet.

Xiaomi has crowdfunded several LCD writing tablets in the past couple of years. Some of the popular ones are the Wicue LCD Writing Tablet and the Mijia LCD Digital Drawing Tablet. We have spotted a new one on the Youpin Store and it comes with a larger display with an improved LCD as well as new features.

The Xiaoxun 16-inch Color LCD Tablet is designed for kids but can actually be used by anyone. The tablet can be used for drawing and writing, and unlike the Mijia LCD Digital Drawing Tablet which displays just one color, the Xiaoxun tablet displays three colors (blue, yellow, and green).

It comes bundled with a steel stylus that attaches magnetically to the side of the tablet just like the iPad’s stylus. Another cool feature is its support for pressure. This means that the thickness of the lines drawn depends on the pressure applied by the user.

The tablet has a one-button at the bottom of the screen for erasing what is on the screen. There is also a lock on the side that disables the erase button.

The body is made from ABS Polycarbonate which should make it pretty light even for its size. It measures 36.8 x 26.8 x 0.8 centimeters but its weight wasn’t revealed. Just like the other drawing tablets, the Xiaoxun 16-inch Color LCD Tablet is powered by a CR2025 coin battery that should last up to two years before needing replacement.

It comes in Pink and Blue and is priced at ¥199 (~$28) on the Youpin store.

Qualcomm is expected to launch a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 865 processor. The chipset which is currently called the Snapdragon 865+ is expected to power the flagships that will launch in the second half of the year. Now, new info has revealed that practically all of Samsung’s upcoming flagships scheduled for H2 2020 will have a Snapdragon 865+ processor.

According to a tweet by Ice Universe, Samsung is snatching up more than half of the Snapdragon 865+ stock for its phones. The leaker revealed that the Galaxy Note20 series, the Galaxy Tab S7 series, the Galaxy Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will all come with the new processor.

We are particularly happy about the Galaxy Note20 series getting the chipset seeing as the Samsung Galaxy Note10 series launched with the Snapdragon 855 even rather than the Snapdragon 855+. Of course, expect the Note20 series to come with the Exynos 992 in some markets.

It is also interesting to see that the Galaxy Tab S7 series will be getting the Snapdragon 865+ too as its predecessor also launched with the Snapdragon 855 instead of the Snapdragon 855+.

With more than five Samsung devices launching with the new chipset, we hope other manufacturers will be able to get sufficient stock for their own devices.

New leak shows the OnePlus Buds will come in black with a closed-fit design

Other than the OnePlus Nord, another product folks are looking forward to from the phone maker is its first TWS earbuds. A new leak has now revealed that the earbuds which will be called the OnePlus Buds will come in black.

The source of the info is a photo posted on Twitter by Max J (@MaxJmb) and it shows a sketch of the earbuds in black with red accents.

The color isn’t the only thing new in this image. The design also looks different. Rather than an open-fit design as seen in an earlier leak, the image above appears to have a closed-fit design which should provide a better seal.

OnePlus is yet to release an official teaser related to the earbuds, so we are still keeping our fingers crossed on the design. There have also been no leaks of live photos or press renders of the earbuds.

Apart from the design, the specs of the OnePlus Buds are unknown too. Nevertheless, we expect it to have USB-C charging and also have support for voice assistants.

Huawei Mate 40 series may feature 90Hz display and not 120Hz as reported earlier

Huawei is going through bad times but the company is reported to be on schedule to launch its next flagship smartphones, the Mate 40 series in October. It is also expected to unveil Mate Watch running HarmonyOS at the same event. Now, the phone’s display specs have been tipped by a leaker going by the name @RODENT950 on Twitter.

The Huawei Mate 40 series is expected to be the world’s first Android smartphones to be powered by a 5nm chip. Apart from these handsets, we might only see Apple iPhone 12 series with a similar chipset this year. The SoC in question is said to be HiSilicon Kirin 1000, which was previously reported to be Kirin 1020.

Now, as per the new tip, the Mate 40 series may feature a similar display like the one found on P40 Pro series. That means it will have a panel with 1200 x 2640 pixels and 90Hz refresh rate. But this goes against another report, which suggested the handset to come with 120Hz refresh rate. Anyway, we would like you to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.

Further, as per previous leaks and reports, the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series will feature FreeForm lens paired with 9P camera module for better sharpness and Side-Touch camera interface to make use of the curved display.

Report: Galaxy Fold Lite launch postponed to 2021

Samsung is expected to launch three high-end series phones in the coming months. It is slated to announce them at the alleged August 5 Unpacked event and start shipping them with an interval of one month. Now, out of the blue, a report from South Korea’s Viva 100 says the company has postponed the launch of cheaper Galaxy Fold to next year, which was also planned to be announced alongside these devices.

The first half of Samsung’s smartphone business did not perform well due to the COVID-19 global pandemic as well as an increase in the price of its flagships. In fact, the Galaxy S20 series is forecasted as the worst-performing Galaxy S series phones in recent years.

This made the company develop Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) aka Galaxy S20 Lite, the successor to Galaxy S10 Lite. This phone is expected to ship in October, months earlier than its predecessor’s launch anniversary. Samsung is betting on this handset along with the Galaxy Note 20 series and Galaxy Fold 2 to make up for the losses incurred in the first half of 2020.

But it looks like the South Korean tech giant also had plans for a cheaper Galaxy Fold, possibly called Galaxy Fold Lite, Galaxy Fold E or Galaxy Fold FE. However, it is no longer releasing this year as it has been now postponed to 2021.

This is not the first time we are hearing about the so-called Galaxy Fold Lite. It has leaked earlier with key specs like no 5G support yet a Snapdragon 865 SoC, aluminium and glass build, ‘Winner2’ codename, and $1,099 price tag.

However, the new report suggests it to be even cheaper at 1 million South Korean Won, which translates to only $834. Thus, it could be the most affordable foldable smartphone in 2021.

Google Pixel 5 XL case leaked, reveals rear mounted fingerprint scanner

The Google Pixel 5 XL has just surfaced online, with its leaked cases offerings us a look at its design. The leak was shared by Slashleaks, which revealed the case’s renders alongside the smartphone as well.

Looking at the images shared, the Google Pixel 5 XL still features a rear mounted finger print scanner. This is evident due to a single circular cut out at the back of the case, with its position similar to its previous generations like the Pixel 3 XL. Furthermore, the Pixel 5 XL still seems to house a 3.5mm headphone jack which is quite rare in the premium segments now and didn’t make an appearance on the Pixel 4 XL, which also dropped the fingerprint scanner completely in favor of 3D facial recognition technology.

The case depicted was a clear back cover that also had a square cut out similar to the Pixel 4 series and with a dual camera setup. Unfortunately, we still don’t have much to go on at the moment. Previous reports had pointed at the latest Google Pixel 5 series missing the flagship Snapdragon 865 chips in favor of the Snapdragon 765G due to rising costs. Additionally, its launch cycle, which is generally around October, might also have been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. But again, it is still too soon to tell, so stay tuned.

Honor X10 Max to house a large 5,000mAh battery in a thin 8.3mm body

Earlier today (29th June 2020), Honor shared a new teaser showcasing certain features of its upcoming Honor X10 Max. The device will house a large 5,000mAh battery pack in a thin 8.3mm body.

The teaser regarding the smartphone’s battery capacity and dimensions is in line with the specs leak that we had covered previously. According to that report, the Honor X10 Max measures 176.46 x 84.91 x 8.3mm and has a battery capacity of 4,900mAh. Furthermore, it also sports a 48 megapixel + 2 megapixel dual camera setup on the rear and an 8 megapixel selfie camera on the front.

The Huawei subsidiary is gearing up for the launch of the device on 2nd July 2020, along with the Honor 30 Youth Edition. Another key aspect regarding the device is its large display, which is said to be a 7.09 inch panel with a resolution of 2280 x 1080px. US plans on pressuring Huawei by creating a rival for 5G equipment

Despite several accusations and severe scrutiny Huawei faces in the west, it is still undoubtedly one of the pioneers of 5G networking and its related telecommunications technology. But now, the US is considering plans on creating a 5G equipment provider that can potentially rival the Chinese tech giant.

While the US has banned its equipment and the UK will start phasing out its technology as well, they still don’t have a replacement that can directly compete at the same level as Huawei. Although, the US is currently in talks with known networking firms like Cisco and Oracle, in a bid to get them involved, but so far to no avail.

According to a report, the US is currently in talks with Cisco to have the company buy either Nokia or Ericsson, both of which are known rivals of Huawei. The plans don’t just end on the acquisition, as the US also plans on providing tax breaks to Nokia or Ericsson, in which the latter has been gaining ground thanks to its Massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology.

To sum things up, the US Government is actively considering more avenues through which it can pressure Huawei. Additionally, the creation of more competitive 5G equipment will also help enable many nations that distrust Huawei to adopt 5G as well. Although, it is still too soon to comment on the matter and we will have to wait for certain substantial development in this regard.

Knuckle gestures now available for Huawei Nova 5/5z/5i Pro & Honor 20S/20 Youth in China

Huawei/Honor has been rolling out EMUI 10.1/Magic UI 3.1 to its device for about three months since its announcement alongside P40 series in late March. Earlier this month, the company managed to seed out the update (beta/stable) to all the eligible 36 devices in China. Now, it is rolling out ‘Knuckle Gesture’ support to certain five handsets, which were promised to get this update at the Honor X10 launch.

The Knuckle gestures have been part of Huawei smartphone experience for years. It was mostly available on high-end devices in the earlier days. But soon, it made its way to mid-range phones and then disappeared for a short period of time on these handsets.

However, now with the release of EMUI 10.1/Magic UI 3.1, the Chinese tech giant is bringing this feature to most of its devices. It has been adding this to a number of devices since the past few months. Now, five more phones are receiving it in China as per a post by EMUI official Weibo account.

Samsung launches new QLED TVs with first class energy ratings in South Korea

Samsung has recently announced its QT67 series QLED TVs in its home country of South Korea. The new TVs feature first class energy efficiency ratings and mark the first time the company launched a QLED TV with such distinction.

The Samsung QT67 QLED TV series is available in 6 sizes. Starting from 42 inches, one can opt for the largest 85 inch version or the 50 inch, 65 inch and 75 inch versions as well. The smallest variant is priced at KRW 990,000 (roughly 824 US Dollars), while the largest variant is priced at KRW 5,490,000 (roughly 4,570 US Dollars).

The new QLED TV lineup offers excellent image quality, despite the fact that they arrive with South Korea’s highest energy efficiency rating. Its QLED panels are able to reproduce 100 percent of the color volume and also offer Quantum HDR. Furthermore, the early buyers of this new TV will also be eligible for a 10 percent refund of up to 300,000 KRW (roughly 249 US Dollars) from the Korea Energy Management Corporation.

This is refund amount increases to KRW 600,000 (roughly 500 US Dollars) when the customer purchases a 55 inch and larger version of the QT67 series QLED TV. Additionally, the buyers also receive benefits from Samsung worth KRW 300,000. The South Korean tech giant has had its QLED TV sales jump by more than 50 percent in the first half of 2020, over 2019. It shows that the company is dedicated to its product line which is still showing great success even during this time of crisis.

Realme will be launching the Realme C11 in markets like Malaysia and Indonesia on June 30. The Indonesian edition of the Lazada retailer site had recently listed the Realme C11 with its renders and specifications. Ahead of tomorrow’s launch, the Realme C11’s pricing for Indonesia has been revealed.

Indonesia will be receiving the Realme C11 in two options. The 2 GB RAM + 32 GB storage version of the C11 is priced at IDR 1,799,000 (~$126). The higher 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage variant of the smartphone costs 1,999,000 (~$141). The country will be receiving the handset in Mint Green and Pepper Grey color variants.

Realme C11 specifications

The Realme C11 has an IPS LCD display of 6.5 inches. The mini-drop notch display offers HD+ resolution. It has a selfie camera of 5-megapixel.

It is Realme’s first smartphone to feature a square-shaped camera module. It comprises of an LED flash, a 13-megapixel main camera, and a 2-megapixel depth assist lens. The device will come with Super Nightscape Mode for capturing better shots in dim-light conditions. The Realme UI based Android 10 OS runs on the smartphone.

The Realme C11 will be arriving as the world’s smartphone powered by Helio G35 chipset by MediaTek. The same SoC is expected to fuel the Redmi 9C that is also scheduled to go official tomorrow. The smartphone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support. It lacks support for fingerprint scanner. Hence, its users will have to rely on the face unlock feature for biometric recognition.

The Realme C11 was recently spotted at the database of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Hence, the handset will be also releasing in India in the near future.

Xiaomi has quietly launched the Mi Router 4 Pro in China. The router is an updated version of the Mi Router 4 which was launched back in 2018 and arrives at the same price of 199 Yuan (roughly 28 US Dollars).

Thus, the Chinese tech giant’s Mi Router 4 Pro arrives as the budget yet capable offering. While the price is the same between the base and Pro variant, there are certain improvements that have been made to the new router, like having 5 antennas over 4.

The Mi Router 4 Pro now has a wireless rate of 1317Mbps, which is higher than the 1167Mbps wireless rate of its predecessor. It also features dual band frequency, namely 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, that are equipped with high performance signal amplifiers (PA+LNA) respectively. In other words, the range and connectivity strength have been improved in the latest version.

Under the hood, a Qualcomm processor powers the Xiaomi Mi Router 4 Pro. It houses the usual Gigabit Ethernet port and Gigabit Dual band Wi-Fi Data forwarding as well. 128MB of memory is also provided, and up to 128 devices can connect simultaneously. The device can also be connected and synced with the Xiaomi Mijia app.

While many have already seen essential goods and commodities have their prices inflate due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, you wouldn’t expect a smartphone to be inflated as well. The Honor Play4 Pro is the victim of the bizarre new market inflation with its prices reaching premium high end handset levels.

The 5G smartphone from the Huawei subsidiary is currently available on eBay for a whopping price of 999 US Dollars, which is near twice its original price that is around 423 US Dollars (2,999 Yuan in China). Furthermore, at this price, one can buy an Apple iPhone 11 Pro. Honor Play4 Pro was launched earlier this month in China with respectable specifications at its price range.

However, its most notable aspect wasn’t its chip or camera, rather its unique functions. This function was a non-contact IR temperature sensor that could measure the surface temperature of people and objects on the go. In other words, a temperature scanner machine built right into your smartphone. This feature is particularly useful now of all times due to the severity of the viral outbreak.

Although, this method of temperature checks isn’t exactly without its own shortcomings. Unlike a regular temperature/thermal checking machine, the Honor Play4 Pro requires the user to hold the phone really close to the body which they are trying to map. This technically defeats the purpose of avoiding close proximity. So, it is highly advised to avoid such listings.

Redmi 9A renders in green, blue and grey color editions appear before launch

The Redmi 9A will be made official on June 30 in Malaysia. Xiaomi will be also announcing the Redmi 9C handset alongside it. Ahead of tomorrow’s announcement, the press renders of the Redmi 9A have surfaced to reveal its three color variants.

The Redmi 9A can be seen in three colors like Midnight Grey, Twilight Blue, and Peacock Green. The handset has a polycarbonate body with a single camera with an LED flash on its back. A vertical strip starting from the camera module have a Redmi branding can also be seen on the device.

While Redmi 9A renders claimed that it features a fingerprint scanner, the biometric recognition feature does not seem to be present on it. The device has a waterdrop notch display.

The Redmi 9A has a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display that offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. It has a front-mounted camera of 5-megapixel. The rear side of the phone has a 13-megapixel camera.

The modest Helio G25 SoC along with 2 GB / 3 GB of RAM powers. The device is expected to arrive with 32 GB of built-in storage. It has a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The Redmi 9A houses a 5,000mAh capacity battery. It is said that its retail package will come with a 10W charger, but the device will support 18W fast charging. In Europe, the handset could be priced between 100 euros (~$112) to 120 euros (~$135). It may sell at a cheaper price in Asian markets.
