TCL patents a smartphone design with in-display camera

TCL is known as a TV manufacturer across the world. But the company also sells phones under brands like Alcatel. But this year, it even started launching smartphones with its own branding. That being said, the company has now patented a smartphone design with in-display camera.

TCL In-display Camera Smartphone Design Patent

The race for perfect full-screen smartphones is still on. Companies have been trying various solutions such as notches, pop-ups, and punch-holes. But the ideal solution is in-display/under-display cameras.

Xiaomi and Oppo have already showcased prototypes featuring in-display camera last year. But the tech is still not ready for the public. But earlier this week, Visionox announced that it has begun to mass manufacture this solution and a report even suggested that it could be exclusive to Huawei for the time being.

Keeping that in mind, we can see how this TCL design patent can be a reality someday. But for now, we can only mesmerize this design in our imagination.

The phone seems to have a curved display with visible bezels all around. At the back, it has a quad-camera setup and dual-LED flash separated from each other.

Also, this TCL phone looks to sport a screen with 21:9 aspect ratio just like the recently launched Sony Xperia 1 II.

The Chinese tech company is known for affordable TVs. It is trying to build its reputation in the smartphone market by launching one of the cheapest 5G handsets in the US called TCL 10 5G for only $399.

Since TCL has been targeting customers at the end of the spectrum for years, we can expect the company to bring phones with in-display camera for the masses in the near future.

Xiaomi Gaming monitor with 165Hz refresh rate and 30,000mAh Mi Power Bank 3 to launch in China soon

A new leak has revealed that Xiaomi is gearing up for the launch of a new gaming monitor and power bank with a 30,000mAh battery pack. The news was shared by Ishan Agarwal and Pricebaba that has revealed a large monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate display panel and Mi Power Bank 3 will soon launch in China.

According to the leakster, Xiaomi may launch the new gaming monitor and the Mi Power Bank 3 as early as this week. The latter will feature a large 30,000mAh battery capacity, which is the highest from the company to date. The former will be Xiaomi’s latest entry in the gaming monitor market. From what we know so far, the new gaming monitor sports a 27 inch display with a high refresh rate of 165Hz.

Previously, the Chinese vendor had launched a 34 inch curved gaming monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate back in October 2019. It featured a QHD display and narrow 2mm bezels. Thus, the latest gaming monitor could be a more affordable entry into the market. Notably, we had previously reported on a couple of leaked Xiaomi monitors, with one being a 27 inch model that will launch in June 2020; so, the leak in question is likely the same gaming monitor that was leaked earlier this month.

Recent sanctions against Huawei may scare off US tech industry’s customers

The recent US sanctions against Huawei Technologies might have a far reaching impact on the entire US tech industry as a whole. While the Chinese company has lost its chip supply from TSMC, US based companies fear that this move from the Government might end up scaring away its customers.

Back in 2019, Huawei had faced a trade ban by the US Commerce Department. This move caused the Chinese tech giant to lose billions of dollars in revenue. Moving forward by a year, the situation has still not gotten any better with recent sanctions restricting the company’s supply as well. But now, this move may create a bigger gap between the US and Chinese supply chains.

Huawei

According to an executive of a California-based semiconductor company, “securing new clients in China, or even in Asia, could be more challenging from now on as prospective clients would think twice before they buy American equipment or technologies like ours.” The Chinese market accounted for more than 60 percent of the global semiconductor consumption in 2019. So, the shift away from the US suppliers could potentially hard domestic businesses in America.

The executive also added that despite the California based company does not directly supply Huawei, “a lot of Chinese tech companies, those buying from us included, have some sorts of relationships with Huawei. There is no way to know whether what we sell to a non-Huawei company will not eventually become part of a Huawei product.” In other words, the US products may eventually be reaching the blacklisted Chinese company.

Huawei

This translates to potential complications with the US government since the new sanctions dictate that a special license must be obtained to provide products to blacklisted companies. Thus, the unclear nature of the entire transaction and trade could harm the US based companies if their technology is found being used by companies like Huawei later on.

Sony TWS Earbuds launch date leaked, arrives in India on June 24

The truly wireless (TWS) earbuds market has become an immensely popular segment in the hearables market. Many brands have been launching their offerings within this category, with Sony also launching its first TWS earbuds in India later this month. However, the company didn’t officially give out a launch date, but a new leak has revealed a launch on 24th June 2020.

The wireless earbuds in question are the Sony WF-1000XM3. These earphones were launched back in 2019 in most overseas markets and are finally making their way to India. The Sony earphones received a very positive reception with many praises for its active noise cancelation technology and signature Extra Bass tuning. However, these earphones weren’t exactly affordable, but a lowered price tag is rumored with certain reports suggesting a special Indian variant as well.

Furthermore, the cause for such a large delay to launch in the India market could be related to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, since the local government had issued a two month long nationwide lockdown, which is only now easing up. The Sony WF-1000XM3 is said to arrive under the 20,000 INR segment (roughly 263 US Dollars) and will be available through both online and offline stores.

Sony

The leaked June 24th launch date was shared by Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) through Twitter. His tweet also carried a promotional image that carried the announcement date. These earbuds will be the company’s first TWS earphone in the Indian market, so stay tuned for more details and its announcement.

Vivo’s upcoming smartwatch passes through 3C certification process

Several Chinese smartphone companies have recently launched their smartwatches and now another brand is joining the bandwagon — Vivo. After the launch of smartwatches from Xiaomi, OPPO, and Realme, Vivo is working on its own smartwatch.

While we reported about the same in the month of April, alleged patents of the upcoming wearable device from Vivo were leaked last month. Now, the Vivo smartwatch has passed through the 3C certification process.

The listing reveals that the device carries model number WA2056 and will come with support for audio playback. It is also revealed that the product is being manufactured at a plant of Dongguan Huabei Electronic Technology Co. Ltd.

Vivo had filed a trademark application earlier this year with EUIPO which reveals that the upcoming wearable device from the company could be named Vivo Watch. However, nothing much is known about this product at this time.

Although the company is yet to confirm this wearable device and there’s no official information about the same, reports indicate that the Vivo Watch could get launched next month in China. Since the device has passed the 3C certification process, it seems likely that the launch is imminent.
