OnePlus‘ 2020 flagship model, the OnePlus 8 Pro, has just received its audio scores from the known testing firm, DxOMark. The premium handset scored 67 points overall, which is not a top performance but is still a strong contender within the ranks.

The OnePlus 8 Pro was launched earlier this year and is “powered by Dolby Atmos,” which promises to deliver immersive sound through its Dolby Atmos enhancement algorithms. This enhancement also extends to with or without headphones. With an overall audio score of 67, the flagship scored 68 points in Playback and 63 points in Recording.

In the playback tests, the OnePlus 8 Pro was found to have good dynamics for movies and music, but the performance withered during gaming. Its occlusions were well controlled with only a few artifacts. Unfortunately, its overall volume was found to be lacking, especially in contrast to last year’s OnePlus 7 Pro, which had scored 65 points back in 2019.

For recording, the flagship smartphone again saw little artifacts within the tests with good timbre performance. The background recordings were found to sound a bit unnatural but the wideness, localizability, and distance in the audio recording were found to be “satisfying,” during video recording through the rear cameras and even selfie recordings.
