Zhimi has just launched a new product earlier today (27th March 2020). The known Chinese electronics maker has released the Pure Humidifier 2, which is officially available on the Xiaomi Youpin platform for the price of 699 Yuan (roughly 99 US Dollars).

The new product is an upgrade over its previous iteration but still serves the same purpose of evaporation and humidification. The maximum humdifying capacity of the device is 260ml every hour, marking a growth in efficiency over the original model. Zhimi’s new Pure Humidifier 2 also sports a large 4L water tank, through which the humidification process can last up to 15 years on a single full tank.

Zhimi

A notable inclusion over the previous generation is a display. The new Zhimi Pure Humidifier 2 features a large smart screen display that can provide real time information regarding the surrounding airs humidity, water level remaining in the tank, operating gear and other important information as well. To control the display, an integrated touch buttons have been featured for easy controls.

Since the Zhimi Pure Humidifier 2 does not form water mist as it simulates natural evaporation, the gadget is also suitable for the elderly people. Even children and other groups with sensitive respiratory systems do not face any risks. Notably, the water evaporation tray is made from bacteriostatic materials, which help prevent the formation and breeding of harmful bacterias, even when water levels are at the lowest. In other words, an automatic evaporation system is in place to get rid of excess water.

The Zhimi Pure Humidifier 2 can controlled by the Mijia smart app. This allows for remote control of the product through users’ smartphones. Furthermore, it can even be linked with other Zhimi smart home appliances and gadget as well. Interestingly, it also supports the Xiao AI voice assistant along with volume controls and a physical switch to turn the device on and off.

Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro officially Delisted from the website

Earlier today (27th March 2020), Xiaomi officially delisted the Mi CC9 Pro from its website. It was the first smartphone from the Chinese tech giant to feature a 100 megapixel sensor and the company said it is an honor to start a new chapter.

Xiaomi

The announcement was made online on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. The Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro was released back on 5th November 2019 and was the first smartphone to launch with a 100 megapixel camera. Notably, the device even topped the DxOMark camera rating, receiving an overall score of 121 points in the testings. This made it the highest scoring Xiaomi smartphone at the time as well. For those unaware, DxOMark is a known figure that rates smartphones and professional grade cameras.

Previously, the Vice President of Xiaomi, Lu Weibing, had announced on his official Weibo account that every 4G handsets above 2,000 Yuan (roughly 282 US Dollars) will be delisted immediately. The reason given was the arrival of 5G enabled handset era. So this move comes as no surprise, rather being expected sooner or later. As of right now, Xiaomi’s CC9 Pro can no longer be found on Xiaomi’s official website.

Xiaomi

Similarly, other models that have been delisted in the series include, the Mi CC9, Mi CC9e, Mi CC9 Mietu Custom Edition. These are now officially out of stock and the company has also stopped production entirely.

Huawei P40 Pro scores 482457 points on AnTuTu

Huawei officially launched the P40series yesterday for the global market. The P40 was the star of the day, no doubt, but the Chinese giant equally launched a couple of other products like the Watch GT 2e, Sound X wireless speaker and Watch GT 2.Huawei P40 Antutu

The Huawei P40 AnTuTu benchmark score has now appeared on the benchmark outfit’s database. AnTuTu claims to have found a benchmark score for a P40 series model on its database with the model number ELS-AN00. A search of Huawei’s website is said to have revealed that the model is the Huawei P40 Pro (8GB RAM + 128GB storage).

As for the score, the model polled a total score of 482,457 points. In the CPU test it scored 153441, the GPU score is 173021, MEM score is 85542 and the UX score is 70453 points.
Judging from the results, the P40 series has basically the same as the previous Kirin 990 5G model – Mate 30 series. Also worthy of note is the fact that the P40 Pro features a 90Hz refresh rate but that wasn’t turned on during the benchmark test

It is also worth noting that although the P40 Pro supports a 90Hz refresh rate, it is not turned on when running points. In theory, turning on the 90Hz refresh rate may improve the UX score which will, in turn, affect the total score. Huawei as always has concentrated more attention on the P40 series camera. A performance upgrade is only expected when the Mate 40 series is launched later this year packing a Kirin 1020 chipset.

Going by AnTuTu’s present ranking for February 2020, the P40 Pro is behind the ASUS ROG 2 and OnePlus 7T. However, AnTuTu is yet to release the ranking for March which should have a couple of powerful models like the Blackshark 3 and iQOO 3.

Apple MacBook Air with Retina Display may have Anti-Reflective Coating Issues

Earlier this week, Apple acknowledged that its MacBook Air models with the Retina display can have issues with its anti reflective coating. The issue was addressed via an internal memo that the Cupertino based giant shared with Apple’s authorized service providers.

Apple MacBook Air 2020 with Magic Keyboard
Apple MacBook Air 2020

According to the official statement, “Retina displays on some MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro computers can exhibit anti-reflective (AR) coating issues.” In other words, the issue affects the Retina displays of a few MacBook, MacBook Air, and even MacBook Pro models. The official internal service documentation for the problem previously only mentioned MacBook Pro and the now discontinued 12 inch MacBook models that featured the Retina display.

However, the MacBook Air is now included in at least two different places. Apple had originally featured the Retina display technology on the MacBook Air series back in 2018 and it has since become a staple since. The important note now is whether Apple is open to fixing the models that are affected for free. The company has a free repair program that generally fixes or replaces models affected with anti reflective issues. However, it remains to be seen if at all the MacBook Air will also be included in the list.

Apple

As of right now, the list includes:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2015)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook (12-inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook (12-inch, Early 2016)
  • MacBook (12-inch, Early 2017)

Apple had first started the repair program back in 2015 after certain MacBook users experienced the same issue on Retina displays. Although, the move was never explicitly publicized as the company wished to manage the problem under the rugs. So stay tuned for more updates regarding the MacBook Air’s inclusion in the affected models list.

The new pair of smart glasses with Gentle Monster marks the first major upgrade after the company launched a similar product last year. For those unaware, Huawei had previously collaborated with the sunglasses maker last year as well, with the announcement arriving during the launch of the P30 Pro. Gentle Monster is a known luxury brand from South Korea and had launched the GENTLE MONSTER X HUAWEI smartwatch alongside 2 sunglasses and 3 optical glasses in March 2019.

Now, the Spring and Summer 2020 collection for eyewear has been launched, with two new styles. The first is the Smart MY MA 01 and Smart HER 01, the former features round glasses while the latter has a large square share. Samsung Galaxy S20 series sells 40% lesser than the Galaxy S10 series

During this period where the world is combating the recent pandemic, certain industries and economies have been taking a major hit. One such example is the smartphone industry, with the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, Samsung, seeing disappointing sales number at this time.

According to a recent report, the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, which was launched earlier this year, has only sold 60 percent as high as its predecessor, the Galaxy S10 lineup. Furthermore, the shipment of the latest flagship from the South Korean tech giant could fall lower in the near future as well. The reason accredited to this fall in sales numbers is undoubtedly due to the recent Coronavirus pandemic.

Samsung
Samsung Galaxy S20 series

As of right now, it is unknown if the rest of Samsung’s smartphone offerings are also faring just as bad but the Galaxy S20 lineup is doing worse on a global average. The company has had its shipments and sales numbers declined by 38 percent and 39 percent respectively in the first quarter of 2020 over 2019. This is a significant hit on the world leader of smartphones.

Reportedly, Samsung had also held an informal private conference with major security firms earlier this week to discuss the dilemma. The exact details are unknown but it seems like the declining trend for its stock market value is expected to fall further in the near future. The company has already witnessed a 1.75 percent decrease in market share value as well.

Samsung Galaxy S20

Similarly, Samsung’s global PC, display and home appliances shipments are also expected to decline. However, its semiconductor business should see growth and a healthy trend as the demand for data center solutions increases. For those unaware, the Coronavirus outbreak is a global cause for alarm and has already affected upwards of 170 countries. It is highly contagious and readers are advised to take necessary precautions and stay safe.

Confirmed: Honor 30S will support 40W Wired Fast Charging

Huawei announced its P40 series yesterday and now its sub-brand Honor will be unveiling its Honor 30S smartphone on March 30. It will be the first device to feature HiSilcon Kirin 820 5G chipset at its helm. That being said, the brand has been teasing the features of this phone for a few days now. The latest teaser on Weibo now confirms the support for 40W fast charging.

Fast charging on smartphones has become a necessity these days as batteries are becoming larger in order to power 5G components and high refresh rate displays. Thus, 40W wired fast charging is a welcome feature not only on Honor 30S but on any handset with a bigger battery. As the brand does not mention anything about wireless charging, it is likely the phone will not feature it like all other mid-rangers in the market.

Interestingly, the teaser posted by Honor also confirms a single punch hole camera at the top left corner. This is the first time we have been exposed to the front of this device.

Honor 30S will be the company’s first mid-range smartphone to have 5G connectivity support. So far, the device has leaked multiple times revealing some of the specs it will feature. The first and foremost is the brand-new HiSilicon Kirin 820 5G SoC, which as per benchmarks apps is even powerful than Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and HiSilcon Kirin 980.

Further, it is also tipped to sport a 64MP primary camera with a custom large sensor paired with a 3x optical zoom camera. The company even shared a camera sample showcasing the potential of new improved ISP and noise reduction technology.

United States is now planning to limit chip supply to Huawei

The on-going war between Huawei and the United States is still dragging on. As per the new reports, some senior officials in the Trump administration have now agreed to new measures aimed at restricting global supply of chips to Huawei Technologies.

According to the report, a rule change has been proposed in which foreign companies that use chipmaking equipment of the United States would be required to obtain a license before supplying certain chips to Huawei.

Huawei

The decision came when U.S. officials from various agencies met and agreed to alter the Foreign Direct Product Rule, which subjects some foreign-made goods based on U.S. technology or software to U.S. regulations.

Do note that the Chinese giant has already been blacklisted by the United States, limiting the number of suppliers. With Huawei being put on Entity List, US-based companies doing business with the Chinese company needs to take a special permission from the govt.

A source aware of this new proposed rule development says that it is aimed at curbing sales of chips to Huawei by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), which apart from being the world’s largest contract maker, is also a major producer of chipsets for Huawei’s own HiSilicon semiconductor unit.

If the proposed rule change passes, then it could be a major blow to TSMC and Huawei, and will also hurt the U.S.-based companies. While the United States government has been working on its anti-Huawei campaign, several US-based chipset makers have asked the government to reconsider its position arguing that it is more hurtful to the US companies and undermines their ability to compete globally.

The development comes at a time when the White House is ramping up its criticism of China over coronavirus. The US-China relationship seems to be growing more strained as both the countries are trading barbs over who is to blame for the spread of the disease.

Official: Huawei P40 series features BOE flexible OLED panels

Yesterday, Huawei announced its P40 series of flagship smartphones. All the three models in the series feature OLED panels but in different sizes with varying resolution and refresh rates. And now, BOE’s VP confirms that the entire series uses panels made by BOE, which also happens to supply displays to Huawei for its Mate Xs foldable smartphone.

Huawei P40 Pro

The display is one of the most important components of a smartphone. There are only few OLED panel manufacturers in the world and one of them is BOE. A few hours after the announcement of the P40 series, BOE’s Vice President proudly announced on Weibo that all the new premium smartphones by Huawei including P40, P40 Pro, P40 Pro Plus, and Mate Xs use their flexible OLED panel.

BOE, a Chiese display manufacturer has been lately emerging as an alternate OLED supplier to many companies to reduce their dependency on Samsung. Lenovo is also using panels made by BOE in its ThinkPad X1 Fold and Moto Razr foldable smartphone. On top of it, BOE will be also supplying OLED panels to Apple starting this year.

The Huawei P40 series is targeted at mobile photography but the devices in the series also sport modern display design, especially the Pro and Pro Plus models. The display on these phones are curved at all the four sides and measure 6.58-inches with a resolution of 2640 x 1200 pixels and 90Hz refresh rate. The company markets it as ‘overflow display’ as it resembles a cup filled with water up to the brim.

On the other hand, the standard P40 features a flat 6.1-inches display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. It also lacks the 90Hz refresh rate from the pro models but it has the same cutout on the top left corner of the screen to accommodate selfie camera, depth camera, and IR sensor.
