Qualcomm introduces Snapdragon W5+, W5 Gen 2 with satellite support for wearables

Qualcomm has revealed its latest advancements in wearable technology with the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 and W5 Gen 2 platforms. The announcement was made during the Made by Google event, where the new Pixel Watch 4 was also introduced. According to the company, the updated platforms bring significant improvements in connectivity, efficiency, and safety features for smartwatches and other wearables.

The Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 and W5 Gen 2 are the first wearable platforms to integrate support for satellite communication through Skylo’s Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Network. This feature allows users to send and receive emergency messages in locations with no mobile network or Wi-Fi access, which could be a vital addition for outdoor enthusiasts and travellers.

Unlike traditional wearables, the technology ensures communication even in remote regions. The W5+ version includes a low-power co-processor, while the W5 Gen 2 does not, giving manufacturers flexibility in design and battery optimization.

In addition, the platforms are built on a 4nm system-on-chip design. They come with the new Location Machine Learning 3.0 system, which can improve GPS accuracy by up to 50 percent compared to earlier generations. Qualcomm has also introduced an optimized RF Front End that reduces component size and power requirements by around 20 percent, enabling slimmer designs and longer-lasting batteries.

Nevertheless, the phone comes with a periscope telephoto camera, the only one to offer this feature in its price segment.

The Vivo T4 Pro will be positioned lower than the Vivo T4 Ultra in the country. It will be priced between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000. Honor is working on a couple of new phones for the Chinese market. After the Honor Magic 8 and Magic 8 Pro, which are expected to launch in October this year, the brand may launch the Honor GT 2 series powered by the Snapdragon 8-series chip before the end of this year. It is also working on a mysterious phone that will pack a 10,000mAh battery. Tipster Digital Chat Station has been gradually revealing key details about this phone. Today, he rolled out the following Weibo post to confirm the display size and launch timeframe of the device.

According to the tipster, the mysterious Honor phone with a 10,000mAh battery onboard will be powered by the upcoming Dimensity 8500 SoC. He revealed that its current engineering prototype is equipped with a 6.79-inch LTPS OLED panel that supports a 1.5K resolution.

He added that despite carrying such a huge battery aimed at extreme endurance, the thickness of the device is still fairly reasonable. As far as the launch is concerned, it is expected to debut in the first half of 2026. At present, there is no clarity about the final moniker of this device.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold launches with Tensor G5, bigger battery, IP68 rating, and Titan M2 security chip

Google announced the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold alongside the Pixel Watch 4 series at its Made by Google event in Brooklyn on August 20.

The phone uses a new gearless hinge that Google says is twice as durable as before, and it’s the first foldable with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The body is made of aerospace-grade aluminum and comes in Moonstone and Jade.

It has a 6.4-inch cover screen and an 8-inch Super Actua Flex OLED inner display, both hitting 3,000 nits of brightness. The glass has been reinforced with extra layers to improve durability.

Inside, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold runs on the Tensor G5 chip with support for AI features like Gemini Live, Magic Cue, and Daily Hub. It packs a 5,015mAh battery (up from Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s 4,650 mAh) rated for 30+ hours, supports 30W charging, and adds Qi2 wireless charging with Google’s new Pixelsnap accessories.

The triple rear camera system is led by a 48MP main sensor with Macro Focus, joined by a 10.8MP 5x telephoto with support for 20x “Super Res Zoom,” and a 10.5MP ultrawide. Google has also included two 10MP selfie cameras, one in the inner display’s punch-hole and another on the cover screen. On paper, this setup feels like one of the less ambitious parts of the device compared to its other upgrades.

Price and availability

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold runs on Android 16 with seven years of software support. Pre-orders are live now, with sales starting October 9. The 256GB model is priced at ₹1,72,999, while 512GB and 1TB options are expected but pricing for those hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Qualcomm is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at its upcoming 2025 Snapdragon Summit. This chipset is said to have the SM8850 model number. He explained that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 uses the same TSMC N3P process as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2v and features Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture, with support for the SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) instruction set for on-device AI acceleration. This means its specifications and architecture are highly promising and worth anticipating.

He also mentioned that many leading smartphone manufacturers are already betting on this chip, showing its importance in the upcoming flagship landscape. Finally, he added that there is no SM8835 in this generation of the Snapdragon 8 series. The lineup only includes the SM8850, SM8850s (which may debut later as the Leading Version), and the SM8845.

Recent reports have revealed that the Redmi K90 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The tipster has previously claimed that this chip will have a 2+6 architecture and will borrow some features from the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, it is said to be slightly weaker than the Snapdragon 8 Elite from last year. Apart from the Redmi K90, the Honor GT 2 and the Realme Neo 8 are also speculated to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Google Pixel Buds 2a launched with ANC, 7h battery & recycled design

Asus unveils ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W gaming monitor with 540Hz / 720Hz dual mode

Asus has unveiled its latest flagship gaming monitor at Gamescom 2025, the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W. The new model aims to set a new standard in competitive displays with a dual-mode system that supports 540Hz at QHD resolution and up to 720Hz at 720p. No OLED gaming monitor has reached this level before, placing Asus ahead of competitors that rely on TN panels for similar refresh rates.

The PG27AQWP-W features a 26.5-inch 2560 x 1440 OLED panel enhanced with tandem OLED technology. Asus states that the new panel design delivers 15 percent higher peak brightness, 25 percent wider color volume, and 60 percent longer lifespan compared to previous WOLED monitors. It comes with a TrueBlack Glossy coating that improves contrast and color vibrancy while cutting glare in bright environments. The monitor also offers a 0.03ms response time, VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification, and 99.5 percent DCI-P3 coverage, making it suitable for esports and creative workloads.

Design sets the PG27AQWP-W apart from typical black-framed monitors. Asus uses a silver stand and a semi-transparent back panel to give the display a distinctive look. Connectivity options include DisplayPort 2.1a with full 80Gbps bandwidth, HDMI 2.1, and a tripod socket. Asus adds its OLED Care Pro suite with a Neo Proximity Sensor that dims the screen when the user steps away, a safeguard against burn-in. The company continues to provide a three-year burn-in warranty on its OLED monitors.

Alongside the flagship, Asus introduced the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG. This 26.5-inch QHD model runs at 280Hz and carries the same tandem OLED panel, glossy coating, and burn-in protection. It also includes DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC compression and a smaller stand design.

Asus rounded out the lineup with the XG27AQDMG Gen 2, an upgraded take on last year’s XG27AQDMG. The 240Hz WOLED monitor keeps the same core specs but now adds Asus’s TrueBlack Glossy coating, a proximity sensor, and a more compact stand.

Asus positions the PG27AQWP-W as the fastest OLED gaming monitor in the world. The company has not confirmed pricing or release dates, but the specifications indicate a premium placement.

The company is set to unveil this model on 27th August 2025, which is just a day before the brand plans on rolling out the Moto Buds Loop. Based on what we know so far, these earbuds will offer Dynamic ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) with up to 50 decibels of noise reduction. It will even house large 12.4mm audio drivers, with support for Bass Tuned EQ and spatial audio.

The listing also confirmed CrystalTalk AI for an improved calling experience, thanks to its triple microphone setup.
