Last month, Xiaomi had launched its flagship series for 2020, the Mi 10 series. The latest generation of premium grade smartphones arrives with top notch specs with its cameras receiving positive reception. Now, the Chinese tech giant has rolled out an important update for the Mi 10 Pro‘s camera module.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro
Notably, the commercial variant of a smartphone and the testing versions sent to firms like DxOMark differ slightly. In other words, the testing versions carry slightly better camera software optimizations, so results may vary from real life testing. However, this doesn’t mean Xiaomi has left out a better algorithm for the customers as the company has started rolling out the same DxOMark camera software version.
For those unaware, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro units sent to DxOMark featured better optimizations that improved autofocus in low light scenarios. Furthermore, the color adjustments for the HDR were also better and the occasional purple tint on night scenes was fixed as well. Basically, the testing version was noticeably better in performance than the commercially available variant.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro’s official teardown
But now, the new update (MIUI V11.0.12.0) brings all of those improvements to the Mi 10 Pro’s quad camera module. This includes its the 108 megapixel primary sensor alongside the 10x hybrid zoom lens, 12 megapixel portrait lens and a 20 megapixel ultra wide angle lens. So for Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro owners, look out for the new update which will improve the performance of your flagship smartphone.

The leak reveals that the Huawei Nova 7 SE will be powered by a 5G-enabled mid-range Kirin chipset. Currently, Huawei makes use of the older Kirin 710F and the more Kirin 810 to power its mid-range phones. Both of them lack support for 5G connectivity. Last year, the Nova 5i Pro that debuted in June became the first Huawei phone to arrive with Kirin 810. The Nova 6 SE that debuted in December is also driven by the Kirin 810 chipset.

The Find X2 Pro (PDEM30 model number) has 165.2 x 74.4 x 9.5mm dimension and it weighs 200 grams. It has black and orange color variants.
OPPO Find X2 Pro
The Find X2 and X2 Pro have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that offers 1440 x 3180 pixels. The displays on both phones have in-screen fingerprint readers. The exact sizes of their batteries are not mentioned. However, other leaks have revealed that the Find X2 has a 4,200mAh battery and Find X2 Pro has a slightly larger 4,260mAh battery. The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform powers both phones and they are preloaded with Android 10 OS. Both devices lack support for microSD card slot.
The Find X2 and Find X2 Pro have punch-hole screens with 32-megapixel selfie cameras. The Find X2 has a 48-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel triple camera system whereas the Find X2 Pro features 48-megapixel + 48-megapixel + 13-megapixel triple camera setup.
The Find X2 is mentioned in RAM versions like 8 GB and 12 GB and storage models like 128 GB and 256 GB. On the other side, the Find X2 Pro has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB and 512 GB storage variants. The TENAA listings of both phones do not have their images yet. However, the designs of both phones have been revealed through leaked renders.
The pricing of Find X2 and Find X2 Pro are not known yet. Just as the original Find X came in a special Lamborghini edition, there could be a Find X2 Lamborghini Edition with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage priced at 19,999 Yuan (~$2,875).
TCL is about pioneering what could as well become a workable foldable (sorry rollable) phone design. While we are yet to fully grapple with the intricacies of the foldable design, the Chinese tech giant has showcased the render of a rollable display-packing phone.
The rollable design affords the phone a different form factor from what obtains on the foldable style that has gone commercial already. The company equally showcased a tri-fold foldable design prototype but did not say when it will become available.
The two phones utilise display panels developed by TCL-CSOT, the company’s display division that equally manufactures its smart TV displays. The tri-fold model features a flexible AMOLED technology which allows a 10-inch tablet to collapse into a 6.65-inch device. The folded display has an aspect ratio of 20.8:9 and an amazing 3K resolution.
TCL introduced two different hinges for the tri-fold model – DragonHinge and ButterflyHinge. While one of the hinges folds inside like the Galaxy Fold, the second one folds outwards like the Huawei Mate X. It is this design that allows the smartphone to have a triple folding form factor.
On the other hand, the rollable AMOLED display entends sideways from underneath the body of the device and retracts inside as desired just by pushing a button. The device when retracted has a 6.75-inch screen but when it is expanded, it assumes a 7.8-inch display. The rollable design ditches the hinge instead, it has a motorized mechanism and doesn’t allow a manual pull-push motion for now.
What makes this interesting is that the change in form factor automatically enables an adaptation of the user interface to the bigger display, providing additional features like split-screen and multitasking enhancements. With this design style, we won’t have to deal with wrinkles or creases on the foldable OLED screen.
TCL says the smartphones are not yet ready to go commercial. Thus, pricing and availability details weren’t shared.
Huawei’s AppGallery is the third largest app store in the world even though it is practically new. The manufacturer has been wooing developers to create apps for its platform with incentives. The latest is a revenue-sharing formula that will see developers get up to 90% of the money made.
Huawei is calling it the Revenue Share Percentage for the Preferential Policy and it is valid for 24 months and it is valid from when developers accept the agreement before June 30, 2020. The preferential policy becomes effective the first day of the next month after you agree to the policy for developers who had previously signed the AppGallery Joint Operations Sevice Agreement. For those who have not signed the AppGallery Joint Operations Sevice Agreement, the preferential policy begins the same month. Both categories of developers have until June 2020 to benefit from the preferential policy.
Google adopts a 30:70 sharing ratio between it and its developers. This is the same revenue split Apple applies to developers on its App Store. Last year, Epic Games refused to put its popular game, Fortnite, on the Google Play Store. The games studio said the 30% Google took from sales was too high as the “developer’s 70% also covers the cost of developing, operating and supporting the game”.
Epic Games has launched its own game store where developers earn 88% and the store takes 12% of sales.
The Find series remains unarguably OPPO‘s best product line till date. The buzz surrounding the series just refused to whittle down despite the hiatus before the Find X was finally launched last year. The Find X2 is about launching alongside the Find X2 Pro on March 6 and the rumour mill has kept buzzing. Ahead of the launch, the full specifications of the OPPO Find X2 Pro have appeared online, giving us a clearer picture of what to expect. The renders of the device also made the rounds online.
Definitely, the pro version will come with a more powerful specs lineup. The leaked poster shows that the Find X2 Pro will feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 3K resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and 551ppi. The display will also support 120Hz refresh rate, 800 nits high brightness and 1200nit peak HDR brightness. The device packs a hole-punch selfie camera design with a 32MP sensor. The full-screen, notch-less design gives the Find X2 Pro a 93% screen-to-body ratio which is pretty impressive.
In addition, the device has a dimension of 165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8 mm. The weight varies between 200g and 208g for the two colour variants. In case you don’t know, the Find X2 Pro will come in a Vegan Orange Leather variant which weighs 208g and a Ceramic Black variant weighing in at 200g.
The Find X2 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor which brings support for Dual-Mode 5G connectivity, WiFi 6 and NFC. The phone will have up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage.
At the rear, the flagship smartphone will have a Quad camera setup comprised of a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor with OIS, a 48MP Ultra-wide angle Sony IMX586 sensor. There is also a 13MP Periscope zoom camera with OIS and 10X hybrid optical zoom. Further, the device gets its interface from the ColorOS 7 based on Android 10. It equally comes with a 4260mAh battery with SuperVOOC 2.0 65W charging that is said to deliver a full charge to a flat battery in just 38 minutes.
UPDATE: OPPO’s VP Brian Shen today revealed some key differences between the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro. The models have different camera sensors. The Find X2 Pro features a better camera sensor while the Find X2 equally has a decent setup but not as powerful as the Pro version. The camera seems to be where the major difference lies. In addition, the Find X2 has a slightly lesser camera bump and is slightly thinner and lighter.
Alongside the Oppo Find X2 series, tomorrow Oppo will also unveil its first smartwatch: the Oppo Watch. It will not be just a random affordable smartwatch or fitness band: we will see a high-end product with a lot of features you would expect on the best smartwatch of 2020 and more. Thanks to several leaks and official renders, we know a lot about the upcoming Oppo Watch, we already know its design and form factor, as well as several specifications. We collected every info we got in a roundup ahead of the official launch which will be live-streamed tomorrow. Let’s discover together whether or not it is really one of the potential best smartwatches of the year by analyzing its known features.
Oppo Watch Design
OPPO Watch
A lot of people are already calling the Oppo Watch an Apple Watch clone. Not only its name is similar to the Cupertino giant’s smartwatch, but even its design looks like the expensive Apple wearable. But the good thing is that it will be the Apple Watch for Android handsets. Oppo Watch will feature a square display with 3D curved edges. Oppo decided to ditch the twisting digital crown and replaced it with two buttons on the right side of the case. It will come in black and copper cases with blue and gold straps similar to the sport bands of the Apple Watch. According to the VP Brian Shen, the gadget is there to serve the users and not just look good, that is why Oppo opted for a square design instead of a circular display.
Oppo Watch Specs
Below you can find the known specifications of the Oppo Watch, but keep in mind that not everything you will read below is officially confirmed by the company.
Square design with blu and gold straps
1.91-inch retina display with a 326 ppi pixel density, 3D curved edges and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut
Snapdragon Wear 2500 chipset with Apollo3 ultra low power chip
Wear OS (unconfirmed)
ECG sensor (just speculations!)
eSIM support
Calls support
5ATM waterproof
Yes, Oppo’s smartwatch might run Wear OS by Google, just like the Xiaomi Mi Watch. That would be a piece of amazing news since it will guarantee the best integration with the Android operating system. And after Google acquired Fitbit, we expect great news in the wearable sector. It will support eSIM, so that the user will be able to use it independently from its smartphone, even for calls. There might even be an ECG sensor (electrocardiogram) just like the latest Apple smartwatches that read the rate and rhythm of the heart and can spot signs of atrial fibrillation.
Oppo Watch will be officially announced tomorrow at 4:30 am ET (that is equivalent to 10:30 AM CET), alongside the Oppo Find X2 and X2 Pro. The event will only be available in streaming due to the Coronavirus outbreak which made the company delay the launch due to MWC 2020 cancellation. You can watch the event at the link below on the official Oppo YouTube channel. The wearable is expected to cost around 2000 Yuan in China, which roughly translates into $288.
There is a new Moto G8 phone, no, not the Moto G8 Lite but the Moto G8 itself. Yes, the Moto G8 just got announced, more than four months after its siblings the Moto G8 Play and Moto G8 Plus were announced in Brazil.
The Moto G8 comes with a 6.4-inch punch-hole Max Vision display with an HD+ resolution just like the Play version. The hole is at the top left corner and it houses an 8MP camera.
There is a Snapdragon 665 chipset inside the phone and it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The phone has a hybrid SIM slot, so you can swap the second SIM for a MicroSD card.
There are three rear cameras on the back of the phone. The top sensor is an 8MP ultrawide angle camera with a 118° field of view. It is followed by a 16MP f/1.7 primary camera and a 2MP macro camera. The fourth hole is actually for the laser autofocus module. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone.
Motorola has included a 4000mAh battery which is bigger than that of the Moto G7 (3000mAh) and they claim it should last up to 40 hours with moderate usage and standby time included. However, there is a tradeoff. The phone only supports 10W charging instead of 15W fast charging like its predecessor. You get a USB Type-C port at the bottom while an audio jack sits at the top.
The phone runs Android 10 out of the box with Moto Experiences. The phone has a water-repellent design and comes with a pair of earphones and a protective case.
[envira-gallery id=”308775″]
The Moto G8 is available in Pearl White and Neon Blue. It is priced at R$ 1,299 (~$280) in Brazil on the official website. If you live in the UK, you can pick it up for £180 (~$233) on Amazon.
On February 24, Huawei held an online-only press conference where the star product was the Mate Xs foldable smartphone. The Mate Xs was the successor to the Huawei Mate X which was launched last year as Huawei’s first foldable phone. The device went on its first sale today in China and according to the company, all available units were sold out in seconds. The next flash sale will hold on March 8 and we also expect all units to be exhausted in a short time.
The Mate Xs is, thus, turning out to be as popular as the Mate X which sold as many units as Huawei could manufacture daily. This is despite the hefty 16,999 yuan (~$2,400) price tag for which the device sells. This is the same price as the Mate X 5G but where the Mate XS 5G excels is the presence of the latest Kirin 990 5G chipset onboard. The foldable smartphone is also said to come with a reinforced hinge as well as an improved cooling mechanism.
Several polls conducted after the Mate X and Galaxy Fold release showed that most persons prefer the out-folding design of the Mate X. The general consensus among those who were impressed by the design is that the Mate X represents what a truly foldable phone should look like. That is a design which is used unfolded and collapses into two halves when folded and not a dual display-packing design like the Galaxy Fold. But then, the Mate X is more fragile and that should also translate to the Mate Xs. Moreover, most fans seem to have pitched their tent with the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr 2019 clamshell-like foldable design. The flash sale result proves otherwise about the Mate Xs’ popularity in China.
We will welcome the new Oppo Find X2 series tomorrow. Oppo cancelled the physical event scheduled for MWC 2020 since MWC was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak: that is why the launch of the new flagship was delayed to March 6, 2020. According to the company, the new lineup will be superlative, which means there will be no compromises. But the lineup will be composed of two models: Oppo Find X2 Pro which will be the top-tier flagship and Find X2 which will carry a more affordable price. True Wireless earbuds are rapidly turning into a trend these days and it is spreading like wildfire. At the moment, most of the top Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei,Vivo, Razer, and 360 have at least a TWS earbud under their names. While Apple remains the market leader in this segment, Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is the second largest in terms of market share. Xiaomi may be planning to introduce a new pair of earbuds which has been spotted on the website of the Wireless Power Consortium. The earbuds is named Mi True Wireless Earphones 2S.
The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2S comes with the model number TWSEJO5WM and the listed is accompanied with an image of the gadget which may as well be a placeholder image. We say so because the earbuds look very much like the Mi Air 2 TWS earphones. The earbud will equally be housed in a charging case that is identical to the Xiaomi Air 2 TWS. However, going by the S suffix, this model may likely be a trimmed down variant. In addition, it is listed to have a maximum charging power of 2.5W.
Apart from these scanty details, nothing else is known about the Mi TWS Earbuds 2S. It is likely that earbuds will be launched in India soon. We’ll be on the lookout for more details as they emerge.
Towards the end of December 2020, Mediatek announced the Dimensity 800. More details about the chipset were revealed at CES 2020. The chipset is its third processor with an integrated 5G modem under the Dimensity series. The other two are the Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 1000L. The Dimensity 1000L is still the only one of the three 5G processors that can be found in a commercially-available phone. No manufacturer has announced a phone powered by the Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 800 yet but that might change soon, at least with respect to the latter.
According to Digital Chat Station, Redmi will be the first manufacturer to announce a phone with a Dimensity 800 processor. The leaker revealed the info on Weibo earlier today but failed to mention the name of the phone and when to expect it. Nevertheless, we have a guess of our own.
After looking at Redmi’s lineup, we believe the Dimensity 800-powered phone will appear in a Redmi Note phone, specifically the Redmi Note 9 Pro for China. Hold your horses, we’ll explain.
The Dimensity 800 is a chipset designed for affordable 5G devices. Redmi already has an upper mid-range 5G phone which is the Redmi K30 5G. The Redmi Note series is its mid-range line of smartphones and it makes sense if it will be the one to come with the chipset.
However, since the major markets (read India) where the Redmi Note series are popular are yet to have 5G, Redmi has no choice than to limit the 5G Redmi Note phone, in this case, the Redmi Note 9 Pro with a Dimensity 800 processor to China where 5G networks are available while the global version has a Snapdragon 720G processor. This is not the first time that a Redmi phone will have different specs in different markets, so it should not come as a surprise.
The Dimensity 800 has four Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz too. It is a 7nm chipset and it has a Mali-G77 GPU.
The chipset brings significant upgrades in performance and efficiency when compared to the Helio G90T that powers the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The G90T is a 12nm chipset with two Cortex-A76 cores and eight Cortex-A55 cores. So the Dimensity 800 is definitely an upgrade.
The Redmi Note 9 series launches on March 12 in India but there is no launch date yet for China.
Google‘s latest Android 10 market share has been increasing consistently as more new smartphones get launched but curiously, Xiaomi has been rather slow in pushing the update to its phones, even the Android one models. The company recently pushed Android 10 update to the Mi A3 but had to roll back the update after several bugs were discovered on the build. Now, there are indications that the Redmi Note 7 Pro may soon get Android 10 update.
Xiaomi has reportedly started pushing the new update to Redmi Note 7 Pro units running MIUI 11 beta build in China. But the ROM is available to download as it is already hosted on Xiaomi’s servers. It comes as version 20.3.4 and has a size of 2.1 GB. If you plan to download the new version, here’s a heads up – the beta build will likely contain several bugs. The new version also comes without Google apps.
This may not come as a surprise considering that the Redmi Note 8 Pro recently got updated to Android 10 in China. The gap of one week between the rollout of the beta build and the European version of the Redmi Note 8 Pro may mean that the Note 7 stable version may hit in no distant time.
