OPPO Find X2 Pro Hands-on Pictures & Camera samples

OPPO yesterday took the wraps off the Find X2 series after a two-year hiatus. recall that the last Find X model was launched in 2018 and the series did not have any new offering last year. The new series consists of the Find X2, Find X2 Pro and Find X2 Pro Lamborghini Edition. We take a quick look at the Find X2 Pro hands-on pictures and camera samples.

The Find X2 Pro is the top model among the two but has the same display size and specs as the Find X2. That is a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 3K resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and 551ppi. The display also supports 120Hz refresh rate, 800 nits high brightness and 1200nit peak HDR brightness.

From the design angle, we can see the punch-hole 32MP camera located at the top right corner of the screen. The device is said to have a 93% screen ratio with extremely reduced bezels. The bezel is only prominent on the low edge otherwise called the chin.

The rear aspect sees the device pack a triple-camera setup located at the top left corner of the back panel. The setup is comprised of a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor with OIS, a 48MP Ultra-wide angle Sony IMX586 sensor. There is also a 13MP Periscope zoom camera with OIS and 10X hybrid optical zoom.

The camera samples shot by the Find X2 Pro were also shared. The captures include the 10X zoom, x zoom, ultra-wide shots, and portrait shots. We didn’t get to see the 60X zoom sample at this time. We must say the samples didn’t look out of this world. We’ll have to wait for a professional review by the guys at DXOMark to know how the camera really performs.

In other aspects, the Find X2 Pro comes in a Vegan Orange Leather variant as well as a Ceramic Black variant. The USB-C port and SIM slots are situated at the bottom edge of the device.

The flagship gets its interface from the ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10. It equally comes with a 4260mAh battery with SuperVOOC 2.0 65W charging that is said to deliver a full charge to a flat battery in just 38 minutes.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 starts receiving Android 10 Global Stable update

Xiaomi has commenced the OTA push of Android 10-based MIUI 11 Global stable updates for the flagship Mi Mix 3. The Mi Mix 3 is the current flagship model for the Mix series and was launched last year running Android 9 with the MIUI 10 overlay. The series started receiving Android 10 updates in China around December last year but users outside China had to wait until now for the update.

The Android 10 update arrives with the version number MIUI 11.0.3.0 QEEMIXM and has a size of 2GB. Apart from the major changes and features that Android 10 offers, the update also ushers in the February 2020 security patch and a couple of bug fixes.

Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 is a big update that changes up a lot of things for the popular Android skin. Starting with the visual aspects, you get slightly softer icons, a system-wide dark mode, new Mi Lan Pro system font and improved always-on display functionality. There are also new animations, themes, wallpapers and improved notification system.

Huawei Mate 40 to pack a 5nm Kirin 1020 SoC with up to 50% performance upgrade

Huawei‘s next-generation Mate series smartphone is likely to adopt the Mate 40 moniker. The flagship is still several months from meeting with buyers but Huawei’s R&D has since commenced research into the upgrades it will feature. While the design may have not been finalised yet, the company is definitely going to launch the Mate 40 with a next-generation Kirin processor. Early details have emerged that the Mate 40 will pack a 5nm chipset. Going by the current-gen Kirin 990, the next version that’ll be released later this year is expected to be named Kirin 1020.

The Kirin 1020 chipset is expected to be built on a 5nm wafer manufactured by the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). TSMC is said to have one of the largest foundry factories for 5nm chip production. The manufacturing firm will reportedly commence the mass-production of the 5nm chip in the first half of 2020. Shipment is expected to start in the third quarter of the year as the company starts supplying chips for the iPhone 12 series and Mate 40 series. Both series are expected to be the first mobile phones with 5nm chips.

TSMC’s 5nm process will come in two versions- N5 and N5P. Compared with the 7nm process, N5 improves performance by 15%, reduces power consumption by 30%, and increases crystal density by 80%. On the other hand, the N5P performance is 7% stronger than N5, and power consumption has dropped by 15% again. The 5nm N5 version will be mass-produced this year, and the N5P will be mass-produced in 2021.

It is reported that Kirin 1020 performance will be more than 50% higher than Kirin 990. The CPU architecture is upgraded from A76 to A78, surpassing the Cortex-A77 feature on the Snapdragon 865. Kirin 1020 will also integrate 5G baseband.

Xiaomi to launch the MIJIA Smart Video Doorbell 2 on March 11

Xiaomi today announced a new smart product – the MIJIA Smart Video Doorbell 2. The product is expected to be launched under the Youpin crowdfunding platform at 10 AM on March 11. During the exercise, it will retail for 179 yuan ($25) but the price will thereafter be adjusted to 199 yuan($28).

The company only released a teaser video which contained the device. From the video, we can grab that this model will come in black colour. It seems to be an upgrade of the smart doorbell launched under crowdfunding last year known as Zero Smart Doorbell. This model has a larger form factor, adopting a rectangular shape that is longer than its predecessor.

The design is even more minimalist and does a decent job of masking the camera, making it look like an ordinary doorbell. The hardware and software are topnotch, as it packs an AI-enabled camera which allows you to monitor your home front. The AI deploys such features as facial recognition function. There is also motion detection such that if there is someone at the door, the camera will snap and send to your connected smartphone. The doorbell can also be linked with other AIoT products from Xiaomi like the smart touchscreen speaker and others. When connected, you can use the touchscreen speaker’s display screen to view who’s at the door in real-time.

Just below the camera is an oval doorbell button. There is equally a square-shaped portable doorbell receiver which is placed indoors. We believe the doorbell will still have an adhesive pad for mounting it outside.

On the whole, this looks like a trimmed-down version rather than an upgrade as the white version looks sleek and cooler. We’ll bring you more details when the device is launched.

When OPPO launched the Find X in 2018, the device had a Lamborghini edition that was very popular, getting sold out within 4 seconds in its first sale. The OPPO Find X2 and X2 Pro were launched today in China. What you probably don’t know is that the company also announced the OPPO Find X2 Pro Lamborghini edition.

The Find X2 Pro Lamborghini edition is the product of a partnership with the renowned car manufacturer and draws inspiration from the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster. The model comes in black only and has a similar Lamborghini-themed design as the Find X but the manufacturing process is improved upon.

The Find X2 Pro Lambo edition features an industry-first design which is the use of a “heat-absorbing glass process” to create a three-dimensional ridged fuselage. The fuselage has four layers of superimposed technology giving it a carbon-fibre texture similar to the Lamborghini interior. The waistline and lines are light and shadowy, creating a three-dimensional and smooth feel. There is a Lamborghini logo at the back which is crafted using a special process in order to give it a three-dimensional suspension effect.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro Lamborghini Edition also comes with several customised accessories inside the packaging box. The accessories include an earbud, protective case, car charger, USB cable and charging adapter, all customised.

In terms of the specifications, the Find X2 Pro Lamborghini edition packs basically the same configuration as the high-end Find X2 Pro. This includes a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, among others.

The Find X2 Pro Lamborghini edition will go on sale on March 24. It adopts a hefty price tag of 12,999 yuan ($1,876).

Oppo releases the ColorOS 7.1 Update, brings Special Optimizations for Display and Memory

Oppo has just unveiled the Find X2 series earlier today (6th March 2020). Alongside its flagship series with its top notch specs came the latest version of the Chinese company’s custom skin. The ColorOS 7.1 was also revealed with improvements for system performance and optimizations for display, camera, better storage capabilities, and memory management.

ColorOS 7.1: Display

Starting with the display, the ColorOS 7.1 on the Oppo Find X2 series also brings support for the high 120Hz refresh rate. The company calls it the “O1 Super Sensitive Image Quality Engine” which enhances the quality of the content being displayed on the screen. The new update also brings dynamic video frame interpolation technology. This basically is an algorithm that supplements the high refresh rate display.

Traditionally, videos or movies are filmed in 30fps, but through this technology Oppo manages to optimize the content to 60fps or even 120fps, making the video experience extremely smooth. As of right now, the feature is only supported on certain applications like Tencent Sports iQiyi, Tencent Video, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Netflix, and a few other video streaming platforms. Support for more should arrive soon after.

HDR (high dynamic range) is one of the biggest inclusions in the latest premium flagship from Oppo. Unlike SDR (standard dynamic range), HDR offers more vivid colors and clearer content being displayed. Textures in images and videos are more natural and detailed, making the viewing experience a lot more enjoyable. This is also paired with an AI that runs an adaptive eye protection functionality; which automatically adjusts color temperature and brightness according to the environment to reduce irritation to the eyes.

Camera

In terms of photography, Oppo’s ColorOS 7.1 also arrives with live HDR video capture capabilities. This helps in solving various mobile videography experiences like dark or overexposed backgrounds during indoor or outdoor shots. The camera software optimizations help light up the scene to make the lightning more naturally balanced out while also offering a cinematic texture filter as well.

The improvements to the sensors features a better stabilization too, with a dual anti shake function that is present on both the primary sensor and wide angle lens. This enables a smoother videographic experience which is even comparable to certain professional grade cameras, according to Oppo.

Another notable inclusion in the camera department is the Omni directional focus technology. Earlier today, DxOMark rated the Oppo Find X2 Pro as the best camera on a smartphone, with its autofocus capabilities being one of the highlighting aspects of it. The autofocus on the Find X2 series is capable of both horizontal and vertical focus. This boosts the focusing speed and increasing the accuracy during dynamic pictures or even low light scenarios.

The ColorOS 7.1 even brings special optimizations that have the smartphones support gimbals as well. Since the gimbals have become increasingly popular for mobile photography, Oppo ColorOS 7.1 allows devices to identify the DJI or other brands of gimbals being used, without the need for installing additional applications or software.

Memory and Storage

One of the most important features that the ColorOS 7.1 brings to the table is its improvements in memory and storage management. While traditional updates bring better read and write speeds alone, the latest custom skin iteration from Oppo is capable of anti fragmentation optimizations as well. The feature is a proprietary development from Oppo and allows an 18% increase in app read speeds of large blocks of physical memory.

Furthermore, it also reduces the number of memory fragmentation by 99%. For those unaware, disk fragment with age and continuous use. This holds especially true for computers, so for a smartphone to automatically defragment itself, is a significant innovation in the mobile industry. This will also reduce the unnecessary storage being taken up by the system and will be beneficial for devices in the long run.

User Interface

The UI or user interface with the ColorOS 7.1 also saw certain improvements. The launch speed of applications has drastically been reduced while memory utilization has increased by 40%. Even games now average higher fps while multiple applications run smoothly. The improvements even extend to system apps, which now support hypertext, call translation, wireless printing and recording to text features. Notably, the call translation feature supports real time cal translations for English and Chinese, by automatically weakening the original sound and boosting the translated audio.

OPPO Watch launched in China as a beautiful Apple Watch alternative

Smartwatches are the new craze among Chinese smartphone manufacturers and after Xiaomi unveiled its first-ever smartwatch in China last year, OPPO has joined the party with its brand new OPPO Watch. The company’s new smartwatch comes off as a close competitor to the Apple Watch featuring a premium 3D curved design in multiple sizes like 41mm and 46mm. Similar to the Mi Watch, the OPPO Watch also supports eSIM which makes it an independent smartwatch that can be used to make calls.

The OPPO Watch features a large 1.91-inch 3D curved flexible AMOLED display with 326 PPI and 100% DCP-P3 color gamut. OPPO went with a square design because it feels squares are more efficient at displaying information. The company is offering 28 watch faces with a special AI mode for further customizations.

There are three major variants of the watch, a 44mm version with a 3D ceramic back and aluminum alloy frame, a 46mm variant with the same design, and another 46mm variant with a stainless steel body. Like most smartwatch makers, OPPO revealed that its watch comes with an anti-allergy fluoroelastomer strap but there are leather strap options as well.

The OPPO Watch features a quad-optic heart rate sensor which keeps you updated on your heart’s health and can also detect anomalies. Other modes standard to a smartwatch are also present on the new watch but there are special modes for beginners like ‘easy 5km run’ and ‘5-minute easy fitness’ mode. The watch is waterproof up to 50m in water, so you can wear it while swimming as well.

Just like the Xiaomi Mi Watch, OPPO’s new watch also comes with eSIM support. This allows you to make and receive calls on the device as well as independently listen to music via your Bluetooth headphones.

As for the battery life, the OPPO Watch features dual-chip architecture. So it comes with a Snapdragon chip as well as the Apollo3 low-power chip. The company says that this two-chip design allows for longer battery life. Essentially, the Apollo3 chip will be used to power less-intensive tasks on the watch, thereby saving battery life. The OPPO Watch will last for up to 40 hours in Smart Mode and up to 21 days in Low Power mode. The company’s VOOC charging tech is also incorporated into this watch. So you can fill up your watch from 1% to 50% in just 17 minutes.

Earlier today (6th March 2020), Oppo‘s Vice President, Shen Yiren, unveiled the highly anticipated Oppo Find X2 series. The higher end Find X2 Pro variant stood out due to its top notch specs and camera, which had it take the top spot in DxOMark camera testing history, even beating Xiaomi‘s latest flagship the Mi 10 Pro.

Oppo Find X2 features a triple camera setup on the rear, with a 48 megapixel primary shooter alongside another 48 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 13 megapixel telephoto sensor. The primary shooter is a Sony IMX689 sensor while the ultra wide angle lens is an IMX586 sensor. Lastly, the telephoto lens supports up to 10x hybrid optical zoom with a maximum digital zoom of 60x as well. The three combined to achieve an impressive focal length ranging from 17mm to 170mm.

OPPO held unveil event today to announce the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro flagship smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer also announced the OPPO Watch alongside it. The Find X2 series comes with punch-hole displays with support for 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 865 SoC fuels the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro phones and they are equipped with 65W fast charging technology. The Find X2 series promises stellar photography experience through its 48-megapixel triple cameras. Moreover, the Find X2 Pro comes in premium leather and ceramic offerings.

OPPO Find X2, X2 Pro specifications and features

The punch-hole displays of the OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro measure 6.7 inches. The 1080 x 3168 pixels quad HD+ resolution supporting screen delivers a tall aspect ratio of 21:9 and is integrated with a fingerprint sensor. The HDR10+ complaint Find X2 and X2 Pro support up to 120Hz refresh rate. There is a dedicated custom chip under the screen for image processing. It can upscale video content of any quality to 60fps or 120fps and it can also convert SDR to HDR. The front sides on both phones are protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

The vertical triple camera system on the backside of the Find X2 has a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel main lens. It is coupled with the new 12-megapixel Sony IMX708 ultrawide video camera (16:9 aspect ratio) and a telephoto lens of 13-megapixel which enables support for 20x digital zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 3x optical zoom. The Find X2 and X2 Pro are both fitted with 32-megapixel Sony IMX616 front-facing camera.

The rear-mounted triple cameras setup of the OPPO Find X2 Pro has an OIS assisted custom-made 48-megapixel Sony IMX689 with a 1/1.43 sensor size coupled with Sony’s All Pixel Omni-Directional PDAF technology, a 120-degree 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 ultrawide lens (can work as macro lens with 3cm focal length) and an OIS enabled periscope zoom lens. The latter allows Find X2 Pro to capture images with 60x digital zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and 5x optical zoom. The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform along with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM powers the Find X2 duo. Both phones have UFS 3.0 storage. The Find X2 has 256 GB storage whereas the Pro model has 512 GB of storage. The Find X2 series is loaded with ColorOS 7.1 based Android 1O OS. The 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 technology can fast charger Find X2’s 4,200mAh battery and Find X2 Pro’s 4,260mAh battery in only 38 minutes.

The Find X2 is an IP54 rated splash-proof device with Gorilla Glass 6 protection on its rear. Apart from IP54 rating, the Find X2 Pro is also an IP65 certified dustproof smartphone. It comes in leather and ceramic versions. The latter weighs 200 grams and has 165.2 x 74.8 x 8.8mm dimensions. The leather model weighs 207 grams and 165.2 x 74.8 x 9.5mm. Both phones are equipped with other features like 5G support, Z- dual SIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, USB-C, Z-axis motor (Find X2), x-axis motor (Find X2 Pro) and dual stereo speakers. They lack support for 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot and wireless charging.

A woman had her life saved recently by a Huawei smartphone thanks to its long battery life. After suffering from an accident that knocked her unconscious for three days, the smartphone’s impressive power backup lasted enough for her to call emergency services.

Beth McDermott, a 42 year old female that lived alone, tripped and fell down a flight of stairs and hit her head, knocking her out cold for three days. When she had woken up, Beth realized she couldn’t move her legs. Notably, she also suffers from rhabdomyolysis, a condition where damaged skeleton muscles break down rapidly, making it harder to move.

However, she did have one lifeline, which was the Huawei Y6 she had recently purchased or £90 (116 USD). Beth initially feared that the battery would have run out after three days, but it had surprisingly still had about 50 percent charge left. Thus, she managed to call 999 emergency services and was picked up soon after by an ambulance which took her to the hospital where she had to spend a week in recovery.

Beth also explicitly stated that the event was “the most horrible experience of my life. I can’t believe I’m still alive — I wouldn’t be if it weren’t for that phone.” So, the phone was definitely her savior. Furthermore, she even said that “I wasn’t expecting it to work at all but it still had 50 per cent battery life. I couldn’t believe it had lasted so long.” Apparently, previous to the Huawei Y6, Beth used a £400 (roughly 520 USD) iPhone 6 which was notorious for losing power quickly.

Rather, the sole reason for buying the Huawei device was due to the Apple handset needing to be charged multiple times in a day, according to Beth. She even called the Huawei smartphone “a blessing in disguise.” Thus, we have another example of new generation technology and innovation where advancements in the mobile industry have inadvertently saved lives.
