Huawei Watch GT2 India launch is nearing as registrations begin

Reports of the arrival of Huawei Watch GT2 in India have been doing the rounds of the internet for quite some time now. But no official word around a tentative launch date was available so far. Huawei India just updated its official website with the ‘Notify Me’ button for the Watch GT2 earlier today. The link opens a pop-up window leading to the launch page on Amazon and Flipkart.

It is hardly surprising that Huawei plans to launch the Huawei Watch GT2 here in India, considering the first-generation Watch GT is among the best-selling smartwatches in the country. Huawei Watch GT2 will be available on both Flipkart and Amazon India. The smartwatch was first unveiled during the IFA 2019 tech exhibition in Berlin, Germany in September.

Huawei Watch GT2 Specifications and Features

Huawei Watch GT 2

The Huawei Watch GT2 is available in two variants, 42 mm and 46 mm. While the 42 mm variant features a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390 x 390 pixels. The 46 mm variant sports a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels. The GT2 draws power from a Kirin A1 chipset, which is the world’s first dual-mode BT/BLE Bluetooth 5.1 SoC with Huawei’s patented BT-UHD protocol, capable of transmission speeds of up to 6.5MBps. It is based on Huawei’s in-house Isochronous Dual Channel transmission technology for low power consumption and low latency and 365 MHz audio processing for quick and stable Bluetooth connectivity along with accurate video and audio synchronization. The smartwatch is waterproof up to 50 meters.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.1 BR/BLE/EDR, GPS, and features a range of sensors including optical heart rate sensor, geomagnetic sensor, gyroscopic sensor, accelerometer sensor, ambient light sensor,  and air pressure sensor. The Watch GT2 has dedicated power and function buttons. The device draws power from a 455 mAh battery and runs on Google’s Wear OS-based Lite OS. While the 46mm variant offers 14 days of continuous backup on a single charge, the battery on the 42mm lasts for seven days.

Honor V30 Pro Hands On/Unboxing Pictures Review

Huawei’s Honor brand on Tuesday this week announced the Honor V30 and V30 Pro smartphones in China. The two models came out as the brand’s first 5G smartphones and they bring 5G to the mid-range segment. We bring you hands-on pictures of the Honor V30 Pro with a short review of the design and features.Honor V30 Pro 5G

The Honor V30 Pro is the topmost version and it bears the same design as the V30 so take this as an analysis of the Honor V30’s design as well. Not to leave you in doubt, the two models only differ in a few aspects including their memory configurations. The V30 is available in 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM with just 128GB storage option. While the V30 Pro comes in 8GB of RAM and 128GB and 256GB storage options. The V30 Pro equally has a slightly smaller 4100mAhbattery with 40W wired fast charging support and wireless charging support. Wireless charging is lacking on the V30 even though it packs a slightly larger 4200mAh battery.Honor V30 Pro 5G

In terms of design, the Honor V30 Pro 5G utilises a punch-hole display on its 6.57-inch IPS LCD display with full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixel and 20:9 aspect ratio. We had thought Huawei would shift to an LED punch-hole design on this model that disappointingly didn’t happen. The elliptical shaped cutout houses two selfie cameras. The cutout ensures the bezels at the top is trimmed down giving it a 91.46% screen ratio.Honor V30 Pro 5G

The fingerprint sensor of the phone can be found on the right edge embedded in the power button. The Honor V30 features the same dual punch-hole display and also comes with a side-facing fingerprint reader. Both phones offer 91.46 percent screen-to-body ratio.Honor V30 Pro 5G

At the back, the V30 Pro packs a triple camera setup arranged vertically inside a rather wide module. The module equally holds the LED flash. Since the device comes with wireless charging, the V30 Pro uses a glass back panel. There is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor neither is there a front sensor. Instead, the device packs a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The scanner is integrated with the power button and is located just below the volume rocker at the right side of the screen.

The antenna band line extends downward a little at the side which may be the reason why the SIM tray is removed from the side. It is now located at the bottom edge of the phone flanking the USB-C port and microphone. The speaker grill is at the other edge of the charging port.

The device supports 27W superfast wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Honor V30 Pro has 162.7 × 75.8 x 8.8mm and it weighs 206g. The thickness and weight are slightly lesser than the V30 5G due to the stated variance in the battery sizes.

You can read more about the Honor Vera 30 Pro from our launch article right here. Meanwhile, check out some more pictures from below.

Again, a Xiaomi phone reportedly goes up in flames, this time a Redmi Note 7 Pro

A Redmi Note 7 Pro model has reportedly gone up in flames in China. Song Yujie, a citizen of Zhoukou, Henan Province logged a report on November 27 that the Redmi Note 7 Pro that he had purchased for his father and used for more than 3 months was “spontaneously ignited” while in use. The phone was purchased on July 24 from Xiaomi Mall in China and the incident happened on October 29.

According to the report, the phone was kept on a quilt with the father using it to play a video. The father had fallen asleep when he was awoken by the smell of something burning. He then noticed the smartphone was in flame. However, no further damage was done except for a charred device, burns to the quilt and a minor burn to Song’s father while trying to put out the flame. The picture provided by Song Yujie of the mobile phone after the fire showed that the entire mobile phone was broken down into several black parts after burning.

A Xiaomi after-sales customer service personnel explained to reporters on November 28 that Mr Song’s mobile phone which was on fire was identified as “non-mobile phone quality problem”. This means the phone was on fire due to external reasons and wasn’t related to the quality of the phone. With such verdict, even though the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with an 18-month warranty, the burnt phone isn’t covered by the warranty.redmi note 7 Pro

Interestingly, this is similar to the case of Chavhan Ishwar whose one-month-old Redmi Note 7S went up in flames while left idle at his office desk. Xiaomi India’s response is also similar. Such incidence and Xiaomi’s response are serious causes for concern and raise several key questions. Is Xiaomi compromising quality to keep its phone prices down? Are Xiaomi customer service personnel just plain incompetent or the company is simply evading liability by blaming external forces when its phones go up in flames?

Samsung Galaxy S11+ Case confirms previously Leaked Design

Samsung‘s upcoming entry in its flagship Galaxy series had its renders leaked recently. It showcased a unique design that had never been seen before in a Samsung smartphone. However, since no official announcement has been made the accuracy of the leak still comes into question. But, a new report has just surfaced that reveals a case for the Galaxy S11+ which matches with the previously leaked design.

Samsung Galaxy S11+ Case
Samsung Galaxy S11+ Case

According to new images found online, the case for the Samsung Galaxy S11+ can clearly be seen as having a distinct cutout for the penta camera module. It is in line with the previous design leak with the device having a rather large camera module which can be observed on the top left corner. On the front, a single center punch-hole selfie camera can be found.

Reportedly, the main camera of the Samsung Galaxy S11+ is a 108-megapixel shooter which is accompanied by a 48MP secondary camera, a ToF lens, a wide-angle camera, and a Bright Night sensor. It is said to support 10x optical zoom and up to 100x hybrid zoom. Under the hood, it is speculated that the handset will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Samsung’s Exynos 990 for its different regional variants. Furthermore, it is reportedly powered by a 4,900mAh battery and will be priced around 999 USD or roughly 7016 CNY.

However, since no official confirmation has yet to be made. It is also advised to take this report with a grain of salt too. Although, the leakster that showcased the original renders is a veteran and has yet to be proven entirely inaccurate. So, we will have to wait and see what’s in store for us from the South Korean firm.

Huawei suing US FCC over National Security Risk Allegations

Amidst the US-China trade disputes, Huawei is still facing issues with the US Government. The Chinese firm is now aiming to challenge a decision made by the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC) that has banned Huawei from using government funds to buy its telecommunications networking equipment.

Earlier this year, Huawei was placed on the ‘Entity List‘ which disallowed other US-based companies to have trade relations with the company. This move from the US Commerce Department saw Huawei lose Google‘s Android OS support. Since then, the company is still facing problems with the Government after allegations were made over the risk of national security.

Huawei US-China Trade Disputes

According to the FCC, Chinese vendors have largely been excluded from the US market, with many major network carriers using radio equipments from Ericsson, Nokia, and others. Notably, a small number of providers are still using kits from Huawei and ZTE due to it being relatively inexpensive. However, the FCC has voted on a measure that mandates US operators to remove and replace Huawei kit from their networks. The Rural Wireless Association, which represents operators with fewer than 100,000 customers estimates that the replacement of Chinese kit would cost up to 1 billion dollars; and this is just a quarter of its members.

Huawei plans to file an appeal against this decision. The tech giant has 30 days to file the appeal at the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company has frequently denied the allegations from the US Government regarding security risks and stated that no evidence of any unlawful conduct has been produced to date. Additionally, US companies wish to partner with such Chinese firms and have argued that the ban also cuts off a valuable source of their revenue.

The US Government is currently issuing a license for such trade and has received 300 applications. So far, about half have been rejected while the other half have been approved, such as Microsoft supplying Windows 10 OS to Huawei laptops.
