Redmi K30 could feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 120Hz display

After all the big launches in the past few months, you would have thought that the November-December period was going to a bit slow in terms of new devices. However, there are a bunch of powerful smartphones coming our way in this period, including the Vivo X30 and the Redmi K30. Xiaomi has already confirmed an event for the Redmi K30 in December, and today, we have a few details on the possible specs of the device.

According to XDA, Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone code-named Pheonix will come with a 120Hz refresh rate and side-mounted fingerprint sensor. XDA managed to extract this information from the recent MIUI 11 nightly builds. What makes it even more interesting is this mystery smartphone could very well be the Redmi K30.

Apart from shifting the fingerprint sensor to the right side, the Redmi K30 could also feature dual punch-hole cameras on the front. The front dual cameras are likely to be placed on the top right corner of the device, just like the Galaxy S10+. In comparison, the upcoming Honor V30 will reportedly feature dual punch-hole cameras on the top left corner.

Redmi K30 leaked photo
Alleged leaked image of the Redmi K30 but no sign of side fingerprint sensor

120Hz refresh rate would also be a big deal for an upper mid-range smartphone like the Redmi K30. Currently, smartphones in the segment come with either 60Hz or at max 90Hz screen refresh rates. So this would be a big jump from the competition. Other expected features include the Sony IMx686 60MP sensor and dual-mode 5G (supports SA/ NSA).

There are rumors about the Redmi K30 featuring the upcoming MediaTek 5G chipset, but it’s likely that the company makes use of a new Qualcomm 5G chip for its new device.

Apex Launcher takes a hit on its reputation by showing invasive ads

Once known and competed with Nova launcher for its extra beneficial features, the Apex launcher is now digging its own grave by pushing scammy advertisements via the new update. Many users have reported the Launcher’s negligent behavior of prompting users to download the Privacy Browser app over Chrome and Firefox. The developers have broken the user’s trust by poping out invasive ads on Apex Launcher.

Must See: Best apps to automate tasks on Android device

Several users took to Reddit to report the annoying behavior of Apex Launcher after a recent update. A system prompt pops-out whenever users open another browser app like Chrome or Firefox. The users are retributing by giving a rating of 1-start on the Google Play Store. A user named Jonathan Baez said, “Beginning Nov. 15th, they place an ad before you launch chrome to encourage you to download their privacy browser. Me, along with many other longti”. Whereas, Shay Daves retaliated by saying, “Malware and scummy after this recent update. Uninstalling and reporting the app. Now tries to trick users into downloading a new “privacy browser (ad)” whenever you click any browser icon. “.

The issue is persistent for both the paid and free users. However, it is not the first time that Apex Launcher has involved in such a careless act. Last year also an update to version 4.0 was a nightmare for users. It erased app settings, removed core features, and turned the launcher into an advertisement platform. The official Apex Launcher website cites itself as an ad delivery platform and reads, “Millions of people use Apex Launcher on their Android devices every day. Our app recommendation platform will help your app reach the right audience at the right time.”

The loyal users have also started uninstalling the Apex Launcher after sudden concerns over the invasive ads. Now, it will be a wait and watch to see if Alex launcher manages to recover back and gain trust again. By the way, are you still using Apex launcher?

OnePlus 8 Pro product diagram leak shows quad rear cameras and punch-hole display

Soon after OnePlus launched its flagship smartphones — OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro, leaks and rumors about the next-generation OnePlus 8 started surfacing online. Now, in a similar development, more details about the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro has now surfaced online.

An alleged product diagram of the OnePlus 8 Pro has been leaked online, which showcases the quad-camera setup on the smartphone’s back panel. The source claims that the PDF file of the product diagram was sent to them by an unnamed individual. So, we advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt.

OnePlus 8 Pro Product Diagram

On the back side, the camera module sits at the top-center position, with all the sensors aligned vertically. Along with the triple-camera setup we saw on the OnePlus 7T Pro, the company will be adding a ToF sensor as the fourth one.

As for the front-facing camera, it seems that the company will be ditching the pop-up camera mechanism and will instead opt for the punch-hole design. From the leaked image, it look like OnePlus 8 will have a cut-out in the top-left corner of the display for a single camera sensor while the Pro variant will have two front-facing cameras.

Coming to the specifications, it was earlier reported that the OnePlus 8 Pro will feature a super smooth display having 120Hz refresh rate. However, it won’t be the first smartphone to do so as ASUS ROG Phone II is already offering 120Hz display.

Interestingly, rumors indicate that the Apple iPhones getting launched next year will also feature a 120Hz display which the company is expected to call “ProMotion OLED” display. For those who are unaware, Apple introduced “ProMotion” display on its iPad Pro around two year ago and is expected to offer the same with upcoming iPhones.

The smartphone is most likely to be fuelled by Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset that could be Snapdragon 865. It may feature 12GB of RAM and other details of the phone are currently under the wraps. Some rumors indicate that the phone may arrive with support for faster wireless charging technology.

Mi TV 4A 32-inch and 43-inch receive stable Android 9 Pie update

Earlier today, Xiaomi announced that they’ve started rolling out the long awaited stable build of Android 9 Pie for the 32-inch and 43-inch models of the Mi TV 4A series.

This is big news for users as the update brings essential Android TV features such as the Google Play Store, other Google Play apps, as well as the Google Assistant (which won’t be usable due to the lack of BLE on the device). It also brings Chromecast built-in, Data Saver, YouTube, Play Store, Play Movies, and much more.

People who have been keeping up with the Mi TV 4A series should know that this update has been in the works for quite a while now. Initially, the update was supposed to roll out sometime in early 2019, but the company was hit with some unexpected roadblocks causing the update to be delayed. It’s great that it’s finally here however.

The update will be rolled out in phases, so don’t worry if you’re a Mi TV 4A owner and still haven’t received it yet. It will probably arrive on your device in a few days. If you’re in India and are looking to get a brand new budget smart TV, this is a pretty good time. The 32-inch Mi TV 4A is currently priced at Rs 12,499, while the 43-inch model costs Rs 23,499.

ColorOS 7 new feature teased, power bank renting station pop-up

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO is all set to unveil the latest iteration of their Android UI, ColorOS 7, on November 20. In preparation for the launch, the ColorOS team have teased another new feature of ColorOS 7, and this time it’s one that’s particularly relevant to Chinese users. ColorOS 7 essentially notifies users of nearby power bank renting stations if the phone’s battery gets low.

Power bank renting stations are a huge thing in China right now, and the ColorOS team are capitalizing on it. The feature itself is pretty self explanatory. If your phone is low on battery, it’ll notify you when there’s a power bank station nearby, as well as what sort of connectors are available. It’s a novel idea, and could come in handy quite often.

Oppo is also going to unveil ColorOS 7 in India on November 26. This is the first time the smartphone-maker has planned a launch event for the Android-based OS outside of China. Oppo promises the new update will come with ‘borderless aesthetics, fresh visuals and intuitive platform’, but we also expect to see some region specific features there too.

Outside of these few feature reveals, there isn’t much else known about ColorOS 7. We don’t know much about the design language, the themes or the upgrades made behind the scenes. It is the next big iteration of the UI however, so we should expect some big changes. Thankfully, the team seems to be pretty passionate, so we’re looking forward to what comes out of it.

How to watch Realme X2 Pro India launch event live

Realme‘s entry into the smartphone circle as an offshoot of OPPO upset the industry’s dynamics in no small way as the company redefined affordable premium smartphones, dwarfing the track record of companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus. The Realme X2 Pro was later launched for the European market recently and now, Realme will take the wraps off the device in India tomorrow (November 20).Realme X2 Pro

Design

Realme X2 and XT are nearly identical when it comes to the design and we recommend them since they come with a glass back instead of a plastic body, unlike the Realme 5. Further, both their glass backs and their front panels are protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Realme 5’s body is entirely made of plastic, but it offers splash resistance. However, a plastic body is not as beautiful as a glass back. Also, note that Realme X2 and XT have a more compact design and they are even lighter.

Display

If you care a lot about the display, stay away from the Realme 5. While it is true that it offers a wider display diagonal, on the other hand, it has a lower HD+ resolution that is not amazing on a wide 6.5-inch panel. Further, it is just an IPS display. Both Realme X2 and XT offer a way better Super AMOLED panel with deeper black, more vivid colors and even a higher Full HD+ resolution. Realme X2 and XT have the same Super AMOLED panel with the same 6.4-inch size and the same under-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

Realme 5, X2 and XT are powered by different chipsets, so they offer different levels of performances, but all of them are mid-rangers. The most powerful is Realme X2 thanks to its Snapdragon 730G chipset. It is the best SoC from the Snapdragon 700 series by Qualcomm and it is perfect even for gamers thanks to its high graphics performance. The Realme X2 even offers a better memory configuration in its most expensive variant. So if you need the fastest and smoothest phone, do not think twice and go for the X2. The second place goes to the XT with its Snapdragon 712, while Realme 5 has a lower-end Snapdragon 665. In each case, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box, customized by Color OS user interface.

Camera

Realme X2 and XT have the same rear camera department that is better than the one found on the Realme 5. It consists of a 64 MP quad camera including an ultrawide sensor and a dedicated macro camera for close shots. Realme X2 and XT differ for the front camera: the former comes with a better 32 MP snapper, while the second has a 16 MP sensor. Realme 5 is inferior even when it comes to selfies with its 13 MP snapper.

Battery

Realme 5 is a more affordable and less powerful phone than Realme X2 and XT, but it offers longer battery life for two reasons. First, it has a bigger 5000 mAh battery and second, it has a display that is less energy-demanding. Realme XT and X2 offer more or less the same battery life (X2 slightly better thanks to its 8 nm chipset), but the latter has a faster charging technology.

Price

Realme X2 starts from €299/$331 globally, Realme XT starts from €259/$287. We still do not know the global price for the Realme 5, but given that the Realme 5 Pro starts from €199/$220, you can imagine its price range. There is no doubt about the fact that, overall, Realme X2 is the best. But if you do not mind about having the best camera and display, you might prefer the Realme 5 due to its amazing battery life and very affordable price. If you want good rear cameras and display, but you do not need the fastest performance and a Snapdragon 712 is enough since you are not a gamer or an advanced user, Realme XT is enough and it will allow you to save some bucks.

Google Play Protect blocking update for Xiaomi’s Quick Apps

If you use a Xiaomi phone then you would be familiar with the barrage of in-app ads that pop up randomly. Xiaomi prides itself as an internet company and the ads help bring in the revenue, keeping the phone prices down while maintaining the quality of its products. MIUI also brings several pre-installed apps which are usually the main rallying point for pushing the in-app ads. One of such apps is Quick Apps but it seems to have hit stormy waters with Google.Google

A number of Xiaomi phone users who have the Quick apps installed on their models have come out to alert us that the app is now being flagged by Google Play Protect even on the Poco F1. Apparently, the app has got a new update but Google is blocking the update with a pop-up message warning users that “this app could potentially collect data and use it to track you”.

While the safety of users data in custody of Xiaomi is not in doubt, the data will likely be used to deliver targeted or relevant ads to users which is one of the major sources of Xiaomi’s revenue – MIUI ads. Funny thing is, the app just like most pre-installed apps on Mi phones, can’t be uninstalled.

Xiaomi has issued a statement which shows the company is aware of the issue with Quick Apps. The company also hinted that it is in touch with Google regarding the matter but opined that it was likely happening due to a revision in Google Play Protect’s algorithm. Finally, Xiaomi reassured fans that the system app was absolutely safe.
