Xiaomi could soon launch ‘Mi Watch’ with Google’s Wear OS

When it comes to smart wearables, Xiaomi is one of the first names that run across our mind. Back in the year 2014, the company launched the first-gen Mi Band which due to its inexpensive price tag quickly became a hot seller. Even though Xiaomi has observed worthwhile success with newer generations of the fitness band, it has still not tapped into devices running Wear Os, however, this might change soon.

For readers that are unaware, Wear OS is a version of Google’s Android operating system designed for smartwatches and other wearables.

For Reference: Moto 360 running Wear OS(previously called Android Wear)

According to fresh discoveries by APK insight, a project by 9to5Google, the latest version of Wear OS that is version 2.28 consists of code which clearly suggests that Xiaomi is about to launch a smart wearable running this OS. For reference, the lines of code have been listed below.

Wear OS 2.28

<string name=”xiaomi_companion_name”>Mi Wear</string>

As the code suggests, the upcoming smart wearable lineup from Xiaomi could carry the ‘Mi Wear’ branding. Furthermore, the decompiled OS also includes the keyword ‘Mi Watch’ which could be the name of the first Wear OS running smartwatch from Xiaomi.

Besides, the previous variant of Wear OS which is version 2.26 included the following line of code.

<string name=”baiji_companion_name”>Baiji Companion</string>

The word ‘Baiji’ is used to refer to a species of Chinese dolphin that has now gone extinct. The inclusion of this code gave an impression that Xiaomi would launch a smartwatch with Wear OS in the future and previously highlighted code in the latest version of Wear OS strengthens the claim.

While details about the features or design of the alleged ‘Mi Watch’ are currently unavailable, Xiaomi is expected to maintain its pricing strategy and mark the device at a lucrative price tag.

All in all, the possibility of Xiaomi launching a smartwatch with Wear OS are quite high, though we will have to wait until a company official releases a statement about it.

What features do you feel, Xiaomi should include if it eventually leads such a device? Let us know in the comments below.

Oppo Reno 10X Zoom ColorOS 7

Apart from the fact that the ColorOS 7 exists and will be rolled out to the company’s flagship smartphones, including the Reno 10X Zoom, there’s nothing much known about this custom Android interface from OPPO.

Coming to the Reno 10X Zoom, the smartphone is available in China in two color options — Fog Sea Green and Extreme Night Black. As for the pricing, the 6GB RAM + 128GB variant costs 3,999 Yuan (~$595) while the 6GB RAM + 256GB storage model is priced at 4,499 Yuan (~$670). The top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is available for a price of 4,799 Yuan (~$715).

The phone flaunts a 6.6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top. It features a 48-megapixel primary lens with optical image stabilisation, a 13-megapixel periscope-type telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and OIS and an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens. As the name indicates, the USP of the phone is the 10X zoom.

On the front side, the smartphone has a “shark fin” shaped pop-up camera module that houses a 16-megapixel selfie snapper with an LED flash. The phone is powered by a 4,065mAh battery and supports 20W VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge technology. The smartphone comes running Android Pie-based ColorOS 6.0 out-of-the-box.

Google Pixel 4 XL’s new hands-on shots gives the best look at the upcoming flagship

Google will be announcing the Pixel 4 series of smartphones on Oct. 15. Plenty of leaks have already revealed lot of information on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL phones. Well ahead of the launch, NextRift has shared top quality hands-on shots of the production unit of the Pixel 4 XL.

The new images seem to belong to the “Clearly White” edition of the Pixel 4 XL. The forehead of the phone is quite thick mainly because it features the Project Soli radar technology that will bring forth touch-free motion control on the device. In comparison to the predecessor, Google has reduced the size of the chin on the Pixel 4 XL. The front and metal frame that has a matte finish are black in color whereas its rear side is white.

The left edge of the Google Pixel 4 XL has the volume rocker. The orange colored power button can be seen on the right side of the device. The publication claims that the rear glass of the Pixel 4 XL has a light matte finish that has a regular glass like appeal. Also, it can resist fingerprint marks.

The “Smooth Display” screen that can be seen above provides a toggle to dynamically adjust between 60 and 90 Hz refresh rate. This indicates that the Pixel 4 XL will be arriving with an OLED display that supports 90 Hz refresh ratev. Through AIDA64 diagnostic tool, it was found that the Pixel 4 XL has a 6.23-inch screen that offers 3040 x 440 pixels resolution.

The tool also revealed that the Pixel 4 XL features Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and 6 GB of RAM. It has a native storage of 128 GB and it is packed with a 3,700mAh battery. The black colored square box at the top-left corner on the rear side of the Pixel 4 XL has three camera sensors and an LED flash. AIDA64 seems to have revealed that its primary lens is of 12.2-megapixel. Previous reports have revealed that the other sensor is a 16-megapixel telephoto lens. On the frontside of the phone is an 8.1-megapixel selfie snapper.

There is Face Unlock feature on the device that works like Apple’s Face ID. It can unlock the phone with face recognition even in darker conditions. The publication has revealed that there is no fingerprint scanner on the device. Camera samples comparison between Pixel 4 XL and Galaxy S10+ shows that the former is able to capture shots with better detail preservation and color reproduction.

Feiyu G6 Plus Gimbal Review: A portable and easy-operation camera gimbal

Do you have an interested in taking vlogs? A growing number of people are interested in vlogs. The most important accessory for taking vlog is the camera gimbal, which can hold the camera more stable. And the Feiyu is one of the most famous brands in the industry. We have got the Feiyu G6 Plus gimbal several days ago, let’s take a look.

Unboxing:

There is a Feiyu G6 Plus Gimbal, a rechargeable battery, an USB cable, an adapter for action camera, a carrying bag and an user manual in the package.

Design:

The Feiyu G6 Plus is a 3-axis hand-held gimbal that compatible with GoPro, smartphones, pocket video camera and Micro single lens reflex camera, which maximum payload is 800g in the center of gravity balance. With the 663g empty weight, the G6 Plus gimbal is smaller than most of the camera gimbals, and just a bit bigger than phone gimbals. This portable camera gimbal is made from premium metal material coming with the rubber handle cover, so it has the incredible handheld feeling and comfortable experience.

You can notice that some buttons and a small screen at the grip, and you can do all the controls through the grip, which is convenient and handy. It is easy to start your filming. Install the battery and have a full charged at first. And then install your device in the place with screw. After adjusting the balance, you can press and hold the power button until the Feiyu logo appears. And then you can choose a shooting mode you like through the joystick.

Let’s look at the grip. There are three buttons below the small display, from the top to the bottom, they are a joystick, a function button and a shutter button. On the left side, there is a multifunction knob, which can control the zoom and follow focus of camera.

On the right side, you will notice the setting button and a micro USB port.

Move your eyes to the rear side, an adjustment function button directing camera, and a trigger button is set on here.

Performance:

The Feiyu G6 Plus Gimbal supports 5 shooting modes including a panning mode, a lock mode, a follow mode, selfie switch and an auto-rotation mode. The switch way for these modes is pretty easy: switch between the panning mode and the lock mode with single tap, double tap for the follow mode, triple tap for the selfie switch, quadruple tap for the auto-rotation mode.

Feiyu does a good job on stabilization, the gimbal shows the amazingly smooth and stabilized movements in all modes. I think that the panning mode is not easy to handle, but the Feiyu G6 Plus surprised me. The images and videos keep stabilized with the panning mode.

If you want to take a selfie vlog, the selfie switch is suitable for you. Just click the function button three times in a row, the camera will rotate 180 degree in horizontal. Double tap trigger button can reset to default position. The rotation is fast, smooth and stable that will not affect the quality of shooting.

Battery:

The Feiyu G6 Plus gimbal is fueled by 5000mAh battery, which can be charged by Micro USB port. And the battery can last around 9 to 12 hours. It definitely can support outdoor shooting for a long time.

By the way, the Feiyu brand has their application called Feiyu ON. You can switch the shooting mode, adjust the focus, control the camera direction and edit the images or videos and so on.

Price:

The Feiyu G6 Plus is priced at $269 on their official website. You can click here to get the camera gimbal.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Feiyu G6 Plus is an incredible gimbal. I like its light weight, easy operation, and stabilization. But I have to say that my arm feels fatigued when I hold the gimbal for a long time. I will more appreciate if the Feiyu brand can launch a lighter camera gimbal.

Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Realme X2 vs Oppo Reno2: Specs Comparison

The day after Redmi Note 8 Pro made its official debut in Europe, Oppo’s sub-brand announced the Realme X2 which we can consider its perfect rival. Both come with a very high value for money, but also with another important quality: they are both equipped with a gaming-centric midrange chipset. Alongside these devices, even the recently-announced Oppo Reno2 which will soon launch in the European market comes with a gaming-centric midrange mobile platform. That is the reason why we decided to compare the specifications of these three powerful smartphones which carry very interesting prices.

Design

There is no doubt about the fact that Oppo Reno2 provides the best build quality and even the most innovative design. First of all, it has the highest screen-to-body ratio as well as a notch-less display, thanks to the pop-up camera housed in a motorized pop-up slider. Further, the phone’s body consists of a Gorilla Glass 6 glass back and an aluminum frame, while both Realme X2 and Redmi Note 8 Pro have a plastic frame and a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

Display

Besides having a better design according to my tastes, Oppo Reno2 also provides a wide display with higher image quality. It is not a top-tier panel, but it is still a Super AMOLED panel with realistic colors. Right after, we got the Realme X2 which still comes with a Super AMOLED display, but it is a smaller screen and it is notched. Redmi Note 8 Pro is the most disappointing one as it is equipped with a classic LCD panel which does not integrate a fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

There are very marginal differences between the performances provided by the Snapdragon 730G and the MediaTek Helio G90T chipsets. What differs is the energy consumption: the Snapdragon 730G is a lot more efficient thanks to its 8 nm production process. Further, you should consider memory configurations. Given that Realme X2 comes with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage, it is more powerful on the paper. That is the same for the Oppo Reno2 boasting the same memory configuration.

Camera

The camera champion of this trio is the Oppo Reno2. Despite Realme X2 and Redmi Note 8 Pro come with higher resolutions for the main sensor, Oppo Reno2 has a higher-end sensor supporting the optical stabilization. Further, it has a front-facing LED flash allowing to take selfies even in the dark. The Oppo Reno2 also comes with a better secondary sensor, so there is definitely no challenge. Between Realme XT and Redmi Note 8 Pro, the former wins because it boasts a way better front camera.

Battery

Redmi Note 8 Pro has a bigger battery, but its mobile platform is more energy-demanding, that is why we believe Realme X2 may effectively last more on a single charge. Realme X2 might also last more than Oppo Reno2 since it has to manage a smaller display and it comes with a UFS 2.1 storage. It also comes with the fastest charging technology: it is able to reach up to 67 percent in 30 minutes thanks to VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology.

Price

Realme XT starts from €210/$231, Redmi Note 8 Pro carries a €250/$275 price tag, and Oppo Reno2 launched with a higher €470/$517 price (8/256 GB). Oppo Reno 2 wins the specs comparison as it boasts a better build quality and a higher-end camera department, while I think overall Realme XT offers the highest value for money.

Xiaomi Mi Translator and Mi Kids Smartwatch 2S get Bluetooth Certification

Xiaomi may soon announce two new products based on recent listings on the Bluetooth SIG website. The Bluetooth website shows a product called the Mi Translator was certified today while the Mi Kids Smartwatch 2S was certified a few days ago.

Mi Translator

The certification page for the Mi Translator which has model number FYJ01QP includes a description that says the device has a 4.1-inch touchscreen display, a 6-microphone array, and a rear camera. It also runs Android 8.1 (Go Edition), has far-field voice pickup and translation, image translation, and an exchange rate conversion. It will also connect via Bluetooth 4.2

These features sound familiar as they are similar to the features of the QIN AI Assistant phone which launched a few months ago. We presume this is a smaller model that will launch soon.

Mi Kids Smartwatch 2S

The Mi Kids (Bunny) SmartWatch 2S is an upcoming model in Xiaomi’s Mi Kids (Bunny) smartwatch line. We are surprised that this version is called the 2S seeing as Xiaomi already released the Mi Kids Smartwatch 3 and Mi Kids Smartwatch 3C. It also already received certification for the Mi Kids Smartwatch 4 Pro a few weeks ago.

The Mi Kids Smartwatch 2S has model number MTSB09XUN and will connect via Bluetooth 4.0.

OnePlus subtly brags about the 7T running Android 10 with GApps out of the box

OnePlus is all set to announce the OnePlus 7T on Thursday, September 26. The company’s top-end flagship now competes with the likes of Huawei’s premium Mate and P series smartphones. So, it’s no surprise that the company is looking to get an edge over the newly announced Mate 30 series flagships. And thanks to the ongoing trade war, the OnePlus 7T has a major advantage over the recently announced Mate 30 Pro: Google Apps.

OnePlus 7T

OnePlus wasn’t subtle when it revealed earlier today that the OnePlus 7T will come with Android 10 out of the box. On a regular day, this is not really a big feat to boast about, especially since the Mate 30 series also comes with Android 10 out of the box. But OnePlus adds that it is technically the first OEM to release a phone with Android 10 and Google Apps out of the box, with no downloads required.

It’s clearly a dig at the new Huawei Mate 30 series smartphone which comes without Google Apps. Sideloading these apps isn’t exactly hard but not having it out of the box is a big disadvantage for the new Huawei models in the international market. And OnePlus is looking to take advantage of this fact.

With the OnePlus 7T launch on Thursday, the company will have at least three models in the market with stable Android 10 onboard based on its OxygenOS 10. The stable release of Android 10 is already rolling out to the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7 models this week. OxygenOS 10 brings features such as notifications segregation, Wi-Fi sharing, a new game space, and a smarter ambient display.

Check out the stunning Xiaomi MIX Alpha 5G hands-on pictures

Even though some folks still regard Xiaomi as an Apple copycat, we think the Chinese company has done enough to prove its mettle as an innovative company.  The Mi Mix revolutionized the industry in 2016 and today, Xiaomi launched another amazing Mix series model dubbed MIX Alpha 5G. The device features a spectacular design which is quite different from the generic designs that the industry is getting known for. The MIX Alpha was extensively covered in our launch article which you can read from here.  However, we bring you sizzling hands-on pictures of the Xiaomi MIX Alpha captured during the unveiling event. Check them out. Xiaomi MIX Alpha 5G

The Mi Mix Alpha 5G could be described as a concept phone as it packs several features that have not been seen before now. The most prominent is the curved display that wraps around almost the entire device, extending from the front to the back. There is a vertical strip which houses the cameras if not, we’ll be talking of an all-glass body. We had expected the phone to come with a 100% screen ratio but Xiaomi announced a 180.6% screen-to-body ratio. Apart from the vertical strip, the phone also has narrow 2.15mm bezels on the top and the bottom. Xiaomi MIX Alpha 5G

The device doesn’t have a mid-frame that holds the regular volume and power buttons and other hardware so the phone’s antennas and connectivity modules for Wi-Fi and 5G are housed inside the vertical strip. The device presents with pressure-sensitive sides which utilises powerful haptics to mimic a physical button. There’s also a display acoustic technology for sound output and an ultrasonic proximity sensor.Xiaomi MIX Alpha 5G

Another spectacular aspect of the MIX Alpha is the triple camera setup at the rear. The device holds the record as the world’s first smartphone to feature a 100MP+ resolution camera sensor. This is made possible by using the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP camera sensor at the back of the device. The 108MP primary sensor on the Mi Mix Alpha is ultra-large with a 1/1.33″ sensor. The second sensor is a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and the third, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera lens with 117° FOV. This setup also supports 1.5cm macro photography. Other features of the setup include a four-axis OIS, Laser focus, and a flicker sensor. There is no selfie camera but you can flip the rear camera and use the rear display as a viewfinder for selfies.Xiaomi MIX Alpha 5G

Sadly, the Mi MIX Alpha isn’t within reach of the average buyer as it comes with a staggering 19,999 Yuan (~$2814) price tag. I may just consider selling one of my kidneys for this one! Who’s buying?

Patent reveals Samsung may jump on the dual-display train

The Nubia Z20 and the Vivo NEX Dual Display are two prime examples of dual-screen smartphones. However, they may soon be joined by a bigger brand in the near future. That brand is Samsung and a recently published patent is proof.

Samsung Dual Display Device Patent

LetsGoDigital reports that Samsung filed a patent for a dual-display device with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) back in June. The patent has now been published and the Dutch site has created 3D renders of the device.

The renders show the device with a large primary display on one side. The main display has very thin side and bottom bezels and a moderately sized one at the top which houses sensors and the speaker. There is no notch or punch-hole.

Flip the phone over and you are greeted with a smaller display, about half the size of the larger one. There are thick bezels surrounding it, and with the bottom half bare, you could call this a BlackBerry phone with a missing physical QWERTY keyboard. There are dual camera sensors at the top left corner of the phone. There is no visible fingerprint scanner, so we’ll presume one is under the display.

With the second screen, users can take selfies with the rear cameras with the secondary display serving as the viewfinder. It could also serve as a secondary ViewFinder if you are taking the picture of a person or group of friends, allowing them to see what the picture will look like.

LetsGoDigital also made a second set of renders with the primary display featuring a punch hole similar to that of the Galaxy S10+. The blog presumes that this may be the Galaxy S11e since it has dual cameras and the patent includes a link to the Galaxy S10’s own patent. However, we think Samsung may actually launch this under its Galaxy A series.

Testing GameSir i3, the world’s 1st Bluetooth and Gaming iPhone case

The iPhone case industry is probably largest than any other device out there and almost all iPhone users use one. Besides, it would be a bit naive to leave a $1000-device unprotected. Thus, the market is filled with all kinds of designs and flashy cases. But what about when someone is a gamer and the common cases aren’t enough? The gaming peripheral company GameSir responds to the challenge with a mobile gaming case.

It’s been almost a week since we received the case and it comes in a simple but no cheap box. Inside the box, there a black GameSir i3 case, a USB Type-C cable, the manual, and a “Thank-You” note. All look great.

Design

GameSir i3

Actually, the case looks like any other simple case out there at first sight and it is rather soft and cool because of the soft-touch coating. The back hosts a backlit logo that lights up when you activate the case. The back is not flat but has a little hump that is the battery and also serves as a handle when gaming. There is also a Type-C port at the bottom side used to charge the 180mAh battery. Also, the right side is equipped with two trigger buttons.

iPhone model compatibility

GameSir i3

Since iPhone models have some differences in size and camera placement, the company covers these iPhone models: iPhone6 Plus, iPhone7 Plus, iPhone8 Plus, iPhoneX, iPhoneXs, iPhoneXs Max, iPhoneXR. Really impressive since most manufacturers only cover one, maybe two generations of models.

Gaming experience

And now for the most important part: Gaming experience. The phone used was iPhone XS Max and the test game was the popular PUBG. If you are a PUBG fan, you must be wondering why other fingers except your thumbs can’t contribute to your controlling. Aiming, shooting, moving, tactical positioning, view. All these actions are done by your thumbs since iPhone isn’t a gaming console and lacks more buttons. This is easily fixed with the i3 case: the “Left” trigger is used for aiming while the “Right” is used for shooting. And the thumbs do what they should naturally do: the left thumb controls moving while the other one controls view. Finally, a case that transforms the iPhone into a gaming console since iOS is the top mobile platform for game developing out there.

GameSir i3

To conclude, the GameSir i3 comes to complete the avalanche of iPhone cases in the market and can become a useful accessory for a hardcore gamer. Of course, it can be improved even more since the hump on the back is a bit annoying depending on the game you are playing. Also, it is a bit chunky and using it as a standard case so that you won’t have to change cases every time you want to play, would be a bit awkward.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold could be heading to India on October 1

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is finally seeing a global rollout. After first releasing it in South Korea earlier this month, the phone is all set to go on sale in the US later this week. And a new report reveals that the Galaxy Fold will also make its way to India next week.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G

According to the sources at IANS, one of India’s leading news agencies, Samsung will announce the Galaxy Fold in India on October 1. The foldable flagship is said to be priced between Rs. 1.5 lakh ($2116) and 1.75 lakhs ($2469) in India. In comparison, the Galaxy Fold starts at $1980 in the US, with shipping set to start from Friday, September 27. The report further adds that the foldable will be available through select retail outlets in the country and only via the pre-booking model.

The new Galaxy Fold version comes with a couple of changes like a redesigned hinge and a new protective layer that now looks more like a fixed part of the screen. Inside, the phone features a Snapdragon 855 processor (not the plus version) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Given its foldable design, the Galaxy Fold comes with a couple of special software features like App continuity and multi-active windows. How about moving to a 3:2 aspect ratio display laptop?

Almost since laptops hit the market many, many years ago, the preferred aspect ratio that manufacturers use is 16:9 or 16:10 in some cases. The company that disrupted the market and introduced a 3:2 display was Microsoft with the Surface Pro series, but few companies have revamped their PC lineup to follow Microsoft’s lead, which is really a shame, as it is a much more comfortable aspect ratio for an office productivity laptop.

Chuwi UBook Pro

Thankfully, smaller manufacturers seem to think otherwise as the Chinese manufacturer Chuwi chose to go with this format in their latest 2in1 laptop UBook Pro. The device will launch soon on Indiegogo crowdfunding platform featuring a 12.3″ display with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

This is a big course shift over the previous-gen UBook as Chuwi chose this aspect over their previously used 16:9 because they say it falls right in between 4:3 and 16:9, which are the two most common aspects in reading and media. In other words, they’re billing it as the best intermediate solution. Little black bars won’t be too distracting in video playback, but web pages, magazines and especially PDFs feel way more comfortable while reading or editing.

Chuwi UBook ProEven if smartphones are starting to increase the aspect ratio up to 21:9 as Sony did with the Xperia 1, the result is the same: besides the fact that it is convenient when watching videos in landscape mode, users want more vertical space when browsing webpages since more content is visible.

Chuwi UBook Pro

Compare that experience to reading a web page on a 16:9 screen with copious amounts of scrolling, and it is not hard to see the benefits. As a matter of fact, Sony does the same thing as Microsoft and Chuwi even if it’s not that obvious, as most tech sites focus on video playback.

The bottom line is it’s a pity that most laptop makers haven’t opted for the 3:2 aspect ratio. Video playback is something many users care about but mainly in media consuming devices like tablets and smartphones and less in laptops that for millions of users are a productivity tool. Laptops are used to read, write, remember, create, connect, and communicate and in this regard, Chuwi’s choice is totally justified.

Chuwi UBook Pro

Apart from the display, UBook Pro also comes with a 3.4Ghz Core™ m3-8100Y, one of the most high-efficiency core ULV processors backed by 8GB RAM and up to 512GB SSD. Practicality combined with performance and design makes the UBook Pro and almost perfect companion. We hope that Chuwi continues its excellent price/performance ratio and give more users the chance to get the UBook Pro. The company hasn’t disclosed the price yet but you can subscribe to get 25% off when the device hits Indiegogo.

HTC Wildfire R70 gets certified by Thailand’s NBTC

Last month, HTC revived its Wildfire line in India. It announced the Wildfire X, a mid-range phone powered by the Helio P22 chipset and with triple rear cameras. Before the launch, other Wildfire phones such as the Wildfire E and Wildfire E Plus were certified but only the Wildfire X was announced.

HTC Wildfire R70

A few days ago, Thailand’s NBTC certified an HTC phone called the Wildfire R70. The certificate revealed the phone is manufactured in Taiwan by HTC but it also lists Lava International (Thailand) Company Limited as the operator.

The Wildfire X sold in India might have HTC’s name on it but it isn’t technically HTC’s phone. The brand name is actually licensed to InOne Smart Technology who own the Lava brand. We want to believe the same applies to the upcoming Wildfire R70. It will come with HTC’s branding and get listed on HTC’s website but all these are actually part of the agreement with InOne (Lava).

The specs of the Wildfire R70 are currently unknown but we expect more details will surface soon.

Licensing a brand name isn’t a new thing in the mobile industry. The Nokia brand is currently licensed to the Finnish company, HMD Global Oy. The BlackBerry brand is (or is it was now) also licensed to TCL and Optiemus Infracom.

Noteworthy, the Mi Mix Alpha does not have any physical buttons like volume rockers, instead, all the controls can be manipulated via the touch screen display.

This price tag even puts the Huawei Mate X and the Samsung Galaxy Fold to shame which cost about $ 2600 and $ 1980 in respective order.

Samsung’s ISOCELL Slim GH1 sensor brings an end to camera bumps

Most phones these days sport a camera bump with only a handful of devices having a completely flat camera housing. Samsung wants to eliminate those bumps a lot of us detest. Today, it has announced the ISOCELL Slim GH1, the industry’s first 0.7μm-pixel mobile image sensor.

Samsung ISOCELL Slim GH1

Samsung says the ISOCELL Slim GH1 is designed for slim full-display smartphones thanks to its small profile. The 43.7MP sensor will allow manufacturers to be able to design slimmer and sleeker devices.

The small 0.7μm pixels of the sensor are able to absorb sufficient light for bright and sharp images thanks to Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus technology. ISOCELL Plus uses Samsung’s Pixel Isolation technology to minimize color cross-talk and optical loss. While in low-light environments, the sensor uses “pixel-merging Teracell technology that enables higher light sensitivity that is equivalent to a 1.4μm image sensor”.

The sensor has a resolution of 7968 x 5480 and can record 4K videos without cropping out the field of view. Samsung says the sensor converts to 3984 x 2740 which is higher than 4K (3840 x 2160), hence, it is able to capture more details when recording at 60T frames per second.

The Samsung ISOCELL Slim GH1 also supports EIS, PDAF, Super PD, and real-time HDR for fast and accurate autofocus and sharper images respectively.

Samsung says it will begin mass production of the sensor by the end of the year, so we expect it to appear in devices by the beginning of 2020.

Samsung has announced some major sensors in the past year. First, it announced the 48MP ISOCELL GM1 present in a lot of mid-range phones. Then the 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 and the 48MP ISOCELL Bright GM2 followed in May. In August, it announced the 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX which is present in the newly announced Mi MIX Alpha.

We can’t wait to see Samsung’s financial report when the year ends.
