Meizu 16T gaming flagship is said to launch by the end of October

After releasing the Meizu 16S flagship last month, the company is expected to announce its new gaming high-end smartphone called the Meizu 16T by the end of October. The ‘T’ in 16T stands for ‘Turbo’ and the phone will be a gaming-centric model that should take on the likes of the Red Magic 3S and the Black Shark 2 Pro.

Meizu 16S 07 featured

What’s interesting is that Meizu 16T likely passed through TENAA earlier this month under the model name M928Q. The certification revealed that the phone is still using the slower Snapdragon 855 processor (2.84GHz) instead of the ‘Plus’ variant. It had a large 4500mAh battery onboard and a triple (12+8+5MP) camera setup at the back. Moreover, it weighed just 183 grams, which is pretty lightweight for a 4500mAh battery powered smartphone.

While the Meizu 16T might use the older Snapdragon 855 chipset, the real highlight of the new device is said to be its pricing. Meizu CEO Jack Wong had revealed earlier this year that the 16T is expected to be priced around 2000-2500 Yuan ($280-$350), much lower than the Black Shark 2 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3S which start at 2999 yuan ($423).

The current Meizu M16S flagships are pretty good smartphones but in front of competition like the Mi 9 Pro 5G and the Mate 30 series, it doesn’t have anything significant to set it apart. So it remains to be seen how the Meizu 16T can distinguish itself in the highly competitive Chinese market.

Sony is working on a Snapdragon 865 flagship

Sony may no longer be a big player in the smartphone market, but the company has been religiously releasing flagships powered by the latest Snapdragon processors every year. Now, the first evidence of Sony’s Snapdragon 865 flagship has surfaced via the company’s firmware distribution server. The chipset, code-named SM8250, was mentioned in the server.

Sony is developing its next flagship with Snapdragon 865

SM8250 is said to be the next generation Snapdragon 865 processor, that’ll succeed the recently announced SD855 Plus. Not much is known about this chipset except that it might come in two variants: one with 4G and another one with an integrated 5G modem (x55). It makes sense for Qualcomm to release two variants of its flagship processor. To recall, Huawei also has 4G and 5G variants of its Kirin 990 chipset.

While 5G adoption will intensify in 2020, the new generation technology will still not be available in all the countries extensively. Moreover, 5G technology is pretty expensive. So smartphone manufacturers will most likely prefer to have two variants of its high-end smartphones, a top-end model with 5G and a cheaper one with 4G. And the two variants of Snapdragon 865 would perfectly align with these manufacturers’ plans.

Sony Xperia 1

As for Sony’s Snapdragon 865 flagship, we’ll likely see it at MWC 2020 Barcelona. The company unveiled the ultra-tall Xperia 1 with CinemaWide display along with the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus models at MWC in February this year.

All OPPO Upper Mid-Range & Flagship Smartphones in 2020 will have 5G

OPPO is keen to get on board the 5G bandwagon this year. The company already has the OPPO Reno 5G model that comes with this new generation network support. But it looks like this list is going to expand very soon as OPPO is looking to add 5G to most of its upper mid-range and flagship smartphones in 2020.

oppo reno

OPPO’s 5G expert Shen Jia revealed recently in an event that OPPO will add support for 5G on all products priced above 3000 yuan ($421). He further adds that OPPO has prepared a budget of 10 Billion yuan for R&D, of which a big chunk will be invested in the development of 5G products. The company aims to explore the true potential of 5G by combining it with next-generation technologies and applying it in areas such as 5G HD video calls, cloud gaming, super-fast 5G downloads and so on.

This is actually not very surprising. 5G is extremely important for China and it is said that over 70% of the global 5G smartphone sales will come from the Chinese market. Every major manufacturer is looking to grab a piece of this emerging technology, and OPPO most likely wouldn’t want to fall behind. Even Vivo has several 5G smartphones in the market, right from the affordable iQOO Pro 5G to the high-end NEX 3 5G.

OPPO K5 visits Geekbench; TENAA adds more variants

The OPPO K5 is an upcoming upper mid-range phone. OPPO has already confirmed some specifications of the device such as a 64MP primary rear camera and a Snapdragon 730G processor. Ahead of the release which is scheduled for October 10, the device has been seen on Geekbench.

The device appears on the benchmarking site as the OPPO PCNM00, the same model number as when it showed up on TENAA’s database.

OPPO K5 Geekbench

The benchmark result shows the device runs Android 9 Pie and has 8GB of RAM. It also shows it is powered by the SM6150 which is Geekbench wrongly identifying the Snapdragon 730 (SM7150) as the Snapdragon 675 (SM6150).

The OPPO K5 will have a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It will have quad rear cameras arranged vertically in a similar fashion as that of the Redmi Note 8.

Originally, the TENAA listing revealed that the phone will be available in a single variant which has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The listing has now been updated to include a 6GB RAM + 128GB version and an 8GB RAM + 256GB version.

OPPO K5 TENAA

Along with a 64MP primary rear camera, the OPPO K5 will also have an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera is a 32MP front-facing camera.

The phone will pack a 3920mAh (4000mAh) battery with support for OPPO’s new VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge which outputs 30W of power. With this, owners will be able to charge the phone from 0 to 67% in 30 minutes and 0 to 100% to 73 minutes.

The OPPO K5 will be available in green, blue, and white when it launches.

Did Xiaomi just tease the POCO F2 is coming next quarter?

“When is the POCO F2 coming?” ”Is the POCO F2 coming soon?” “Is the POCO F2 launching this year?” The questions above and their many variations have become a regular sight in the replies to tweets from the official Xiaomi India Twitter account or that of its executives. It has become so annoying that the general manager of POCO India, C Manmohan (@cmanmohan), even tweeted about it.

Today is a lucky day for POCO fans as Manu Kumar Jain, the head of Xiaomi India, may have just unintentionally teased when the much-waited POCO F2 will arrive.

The Xiaomi executive shared a photo of him and the team lead of Redmi Business, Sneha Tainwala, having a discussion and in that photo lies the clue to the POCO F2’s arrival date.

Directly behind both company executives is a whiteboard with what appears to be a timeline of product launches. If you zoom in close, you will see the timeliness shows a Mi Pad slated for May and June while further down we see the (POCO) F2 written under the last quarter of the year.

Don’t get too excited as nothing is set in stone. First, the Mi Pad (4/4 Plus) didn’t launch in India this year, which means the information on the board are actually outdated or maybe, just maybe, they are not even for this year but for next year. If the timeline is for next year, that means POCO fans have an extra year of waiting. Yeah, we know it is sad but sincerely, the Redmi K20 Pro is there to purchase.

Redmi Note 8 Pro -POCO F2 Leaks

There are other products in the image like the MI MIX 3 Forbidden Palace Edition which is shown on the table alongside the Redmi K20/K20 Pro, and the Redmi Note 8 Pro because that is the only Redmi phone with a green hue. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has been confirmed to launch in India but will likely not arrive until next month at the earliest.

Buying a Galaxy Fold may still be an expensive (mis)adventure

Samsung launched the reworked Galaxy Fold 5G smartphone in South Korea earlier this month and since then the phone has been launched in several countries, including France, Germany, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Apparently, the Galaxy Fold not be entirely free of the technical issues that plagued the first model.

A Galaxy Fold owner, Brian Heater who also is an author/reviewer at TechCrunch has reported an early damage to his unit. The reviewer hinted that he noticed a tiny, bright coloured amorphous blob on the screen after it was left in his pocket for a while. The patch is notcieable just between the lock screen’s flapping butterfly wings.

Brian happened to be one of th reviewers who got the the first-gen Galaxy Fold earlier on. At the time when a good number of the units had issues, his unit remained intact but was withdrawn by Samsung when they went back to the drawing board to fix the usses that propped up then. This time around he isn’t so lucky but good thing the screen still worked well. The unit has since been collected by Samsung in order to ascertain what went wrong. But if we are to guess, a sligtly heavy amount of pressure may have caused the screen patch.Samsung already issued warning for users not to apply excessive pressure to it.

The overall design of the Galaxy Fold still remains the same as the ill-fated original version. That is a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display on the inside a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED panel on the outside. However, Samsung says it has fixed the hinge and the protective layer of the flexible screen. The foldable mechanism is now hidden behind a rubbery protective layer in order to protect it from dust and other particles getting in the mechanism through the foldable part. Samsung also extended the layer on top that protects the digitizer from scratches beyond the edges, so that it can’t be peeled accidentally.

With all the improvements aimed at optimizing the build quality,it remains to be seen if the device can at least provide a considerable level of durabiliity. For a device that costs up to $2,000 the question that still begs for answer is if the Galaxy Fold is worth buying or still a risky venture. From the tech point of view, the device is an awesome one and the reviews have been above par. However, the fragility is still the foldable phone’s Achilles heel. Good thing though, this is about the first report we’re seeing about an issue with the reworked Galaxy Fold.

OnePlus 7T vs Asus ROG Phone II: Specs Comparison

OnePlus came up with a brand new flagship in India just two days ago, but this time, the company did not announce a Pro variant. So we are not talking about a top-tier flagship carrying a very expensive price, but OnePlus 7T is still a king of performance thanks to its amazing hardware department. Another performance monster which recently hitten the Indian market is the Asus ROG Phone 2, a device made specifically for gamers, so with a stunning hardware side. Given that they are available at similar prices, we decided to compare their specs in order to let you understand which one fits your needs the most.

Design

If you prefer a traditional phone and you want the most elegant and futuristic design, OnePlus 7T is undoubtedly your best choice. It comes with very slim bezels around the display, a waterdrop notch, and an astonishing glass back available in gradient hues. On the other hand, the Asus ROG Phone II has an aggressive gaming-centric design. You will find an RGB light and a design which is all but elegant, but on the other hand, it carries very nice features for gamers, such as Air Triggers and the support to external accessories.

Display

Each of these phones carries an astonishing display. OnePlus 7T comes with one of the highest peak brightness (it reaches 1000 nits), as well as the HDR10+ standard making the image quality outstanding. On the other hand, Asus ROG Phone 2 boasts a higher 120 Hz refresh rate and a 240 Hz touch-sensing, so it provides a smoother experience and more reactivity. That is why Asus ROG Phone 2 is better for gamers. Even though it does not have HDR10+ like the OnePlus 7T, it still offers a great color reproduction thanks to higher DCI-P3 coverage. It even comes with better stereo speakers. The difference is not abyssal, but I personally prefer the display and the multimedia experience offered by the Asus ROG Phone 2.

Specs & Software

OnePlus 7T and Asus ROG Phone 2 are equipped with the same top-tier chipset: the Snapdragon 855+ by Qualcomm boasting high graphics performance and the highest clock frequency on a last-generation mobile platform (up to 2.96 GHz). What changes are the memory configurations: while OnePlus 7T offers max 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, the Asus ROG Phone 2 has up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 3.0 internal storage. Obviously, you will have to spend more to get a higher-end memory configuration. Asus ROG Phone 2 also has a better cooling system and it allows switching between a stock Android user interface and a custom UI for gamers.

Camera

While according to our opinion Asus ROG Phone 2 wins the display and hardware comparisons, it is not able to compete with the OnePlus 7T if we talk about the camera department. OnePlus 7T is definitely superior with its OIS-enabled 48 MP main sensor, a 12 MP telephoto sensor and an ultrawide 16 MP lens. the ROG Phone 2 has just two cameras on the rear side with no lossless zoom and no OIS, so it is pretty disappointing if you consider that we are talking about a flagship phone. OnePlus 7T even comes with a brighter focal aperture for the main sensor, so it can capture more light for better shots in low light conditions.

Battery

The camera is OnePlus 7T’s strong point, but Asus ROG Phone 2 provides a much bigger battery and it is more suitable for advanced users, long gaming sessions and all the other potential users who want to forget the charger at least for one day. With a 6000 mAh battery, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is one of the best flagships in terms of battery life. And it even features a very fast charging technology and reverse charging (you can use it as a power bank).

Price

It is not possible to choose a clear winner of this comparison: it mostly depends on the kind of user you are. If you prefer advanced performance and long battery life, then you should choose the Asus ROG Phone 2. But if you need the best camera and design, OnePlus 7T is better for your needs. I would personally go for the Asus ROG Phone 2 for its long battery life and its amazing memory configurations. At the moment, you can get both the handsets for less than Rs. 38,000/$550/€500.

Visionox, the display supplier of Mi Mix Alpha can even make 18 inch Flexible AMOLED panels

Earlier this month, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix Alpha which is an extraordinary looking smartphone. Following its launch, it was revealed that the display of the device was not developed and manufactured by any of the bigwigs in the industry i.e BOE, Samsung or LG. Instead, it is manufactured by Visionox that also supplied display for Xiaomi’s two-way folding smartphone.

According to a latest piece of information, Visionox has set up an all new assembly line in Guangzhou, China which will be used to manufacture flexible AMOLED displays. Notably, to bring the production line together, a total of 11.2 billion yuan has been invested which has been raised via public capital, state-owned enterprises of Guangzhou and Visionox.Visionox

Reports claim that this production line is one of its kinds and it will further decrease the dependence of Chinese manufacturer’s on foreign suppliers like Samsung and LG. The assembly line is capable of producing flexible AMOLED displays that range from 6 inch, all the way upto 18 inch.

We have already seen a 7.92 inch flexible display with the Mi Mix Alpha, but we are yet to experience devices with this type of display as big as 18 inch. Overall, the Visionox assembly line seems to be of great importance. As displays manufactured here will open up a whole new world of possibilities in the domain of consumer electronics.

As the largest size display that Visionox can manufacture is 18 inch, we could see other foldable devices like laptops and large screen tablets get the flexible treatment.

Vivo NEX 3 5G was announced earlier this month with the world’s first waterfall display. The curved screen smartphone went officially on sale last week. But today, Vivo has announced that NEX 3’s 12GB + 256GB variant is officially up for reservations in China.

Vivo Nex 3 featured 01 (1)

This high-end version of Vivo Nex 3 5G is priced at 6198 yuan which comes to around $870. Unfortunately, the device is only available in black, unlike the lower-end models which have an additional blue color variant. The phone goes on sale on October 10 at 10 AM via Vivo’s official store in China.

Vivo NEX 3 12+256 reservations

Vivo NEX 3 5G’s biggest highlight is it’s 6.89-inch super curved waterfall display. The phone comes with pressure-sensitive virtual buttons on the side instead of physical ones. There’s Snapdragon 855 Plus processor inside and a 64MP triple camera setup at the back.  4500mAh battery and 44W charger take care of your charging needs.Vivo Nex 3 featured 01 (4)

Overall, the NEX 3 5G is a pretty good offering at its sub-$900 price tag in China. However, it remains to be seen if it can take on the Huawei Mate 30 models which are selling really well in China at the moment. In case you find this expensive, Vivo has a pretty affordable 12GB + 256GB variant of the iQOO Pro 5G, you can read more about it here.

Huawei confirms 500 Million Yuan worth of Mate 30 devices sold in one minute of Online sale in China

On the 26th of September, Huawei launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in its home country, China. On the same day of launch, the devices were put on sale both via online and online platforms.

Surprisingly, the company’s official online store which is Vmall managed to rake in aggregate sales worth over 500 million Yuan in just one minute of the sale. Therefore, based upon their price, it can be estimated that Huawei roughly sold 60,000 to 1,00,000 units of Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro combined during that time period.

According to the company, once the devices were out of stock from the online store, customers started flocking to nearest offline Huawei stores that received an overwhelming demand.

Overall, the astounding sales total and positive response from customers indicate that Huawei is off to strong demand for its latest flagship smartphones at least in its home country.

While not much can be said about the popularity of Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in other regions at this point. The fact that these devices will not ship with Google services including the Play Store, could make potential customers think twice before purchasing them.

Huawei Mate 30 ProAll in all, we will have to wait patiently and see, how customers outside of China receive the Mate 30 smartphones. With that being stand, the two handsets have praiseworthy specifications. If you are interested in reading more about them, you can do so by clicking here.

Huawei’s Global Flagship Store opens in Shenzhen, Long queues spotted for Mate 30 series

Huawei just opened its global flagship store in Shenzhen, China and it’s already flooded with people who are looking to purchase the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro flagship smartphones.

Huawei Global Flagship Store 01

There’s a reason why Huawei is calling this building as its Global flagship store. The place is huge with multiple levels and open space where you’ll find almost all of its products under one roof. From the images, we can see that Huawei is showcasing its recent smartphones as well as its Smart TVs at the store. Fans can even check out Huawei tablets and Matebook laptops at the store. In short, it is a one-stop destination to check out the hundreds of Huawei and Honor products available in China.

Huawei Global Flagship Store 04

The launch of the new Global Flagship Store coincides with the Mate 30 series launch in China. So it’s no surprise that fans flooded the store in the hopes of getting a unit. Photos also reveal that Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu also made an appearance at the store earlier today. However, it is said that the Mate 30 models are in short supply at the moment in China.

华为全球旗舰店在深圳万象天地正式开业 余承东到场

The phone has unsurprisingly garnered a tremendous response in its home market. The Mate 30 series exceeded 500 million yuan in sales within a minute of its availability on the official VMALL store in China and over 1 million units were reportedly sold within three hours after the official sales began.

As always, the camera is the biggest selling point of the new Huawei models. In fact, the Mate 30 Pro has also surpassed the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G to become the highest-rated camera smartphone on DxOMark today.

[Update: Officially Cancelled] Realme C2 Pro retail box pops up online

Update: Realme’s CMO, Francis Wang, took to Twitter shortly after the pictures surfaced to reveal that the C2 Pro will not be launching. Apparently, the box was designed but they won’t be moving forward with the product.

Original post begins here

The Realme C series may soon get a new member. The first of the affordable series, the Realme C1, which itself is just a Realme 2 with a redesigned notch, less RAM and storage; was launched last year. Realme has added two more phones – the Realme C1 (2019) and Realme C2 – to the lineup this year. It is now set to add a third which will arrive as the Realme C2 Pro.

Proof of this is a photograph of the phone’s retail box that has surfaced on the web, thanks to Mukul Sharma (@stuffListings). The photo which seems to have been taken at Realme’s office shows a bunch of Realme phones such as the  Realme C2, Realme 2 Pro, Realme U1, Realme 3, Realme 3i, Realme 3 Pro, Realme 5, and Realme XT.

In addition to all these phones which have already been released, there is a box of the yet-to-be-announced Realme C2 Pro in the bottom right corner.

Unfortunately, there are no specs of the device available at the moment. However, we do not want you to get your hopes high as this may just be a version of the Realme C2 with more RAM and storage.

The Realme C2 has a 6.1-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch. It is powered by the Helio P22 processor and comes in 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB versions. There is a dedicated MicroSD card slot for up to an extra 256GB of storage.

The phone has a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on its rear and a 5MP front-facing camera. It packs a 4000mAh battery and runs Android 9 Pie out of the box.

We expect more details about the Realme C2 Pro to surface soon and maybe even a launch, though most likely an online one.

Samsung Galaxy Fold pre-registrations begin in India, Australia and UAE

In the Q1 of 2019, Samsung unveiled its first foldable smartphone which is called the Galaxy Fold. While the device was originally set to be commercially available in the following months, due to some display related issues, Samsung had to push back this date to Q3 of 2019.

Samsung Galaxy Fold featuredThe reiterated Samsung Galaxy Fold with a slightly modified design was first put on sale in its home country, Korea on the 6th of September. Subsequently, it was also made available in Europe and the US on 9th September and 27th September, in respective order.

Samsung is now expanding its availability to other countries and interested customers residing from Australia, India and UAE can pre-register to purchase a unit of Galaxy Fold.

While Samsung India has already notified that the unique handset will launch in the country on the 1st of October, Samsung UAE and Samsung Australia are yet to provide a specific launch date. With that being said, the company is expected to launch the Galaxy Fold by the mid of October in the two latter countries as well.

OnePlus 7T will get 960 fps slo-mo and 4K Wide-Angle video shooting via Future Update

On Thursday, OnePlus officially announced the new OnePlus 7T model. The phone is meant to be an update to the OnePlus 7 that was launched earlier this year, priced in the sub $600 segment. However, the phone offers tremendous value for money at this price tag, offering a fluid 90Hz 1080p display and the latest Snapdragon 855 plus processor. There are a bunch of new OxygenOS features as well, such as Quick Glance, Quick Action, SMS categorization, and dedicated work and Home app spaces.

One of the biggest upgrades on the new OnePlus 7T model is in the camera department. The phone comes with a triple camera setup at the back with a dedicated macro and ultra-wide-angle lens. However, the phone is set to receive two important features in a future update: 4K wide-angle and super slo-mo 960fps video shooting.

OnePlus recently confirmed to folks over at XDA that these two features will come via a post-launch update. At present, the OnePlus 7T supports two slo-mo modes: 1080p video at 240fps and 720p video at 480fps. The new update should add 960fps slo-mo videography at 720p resolution. While this doesn’t sound as crazy as Mate 30 Pro‘s 7680fps AI-powered super slo-mo videos, it should bring the phone at par with many flagships of 2019.

Also, the phone currently supports wide-angle videography only at 1080p 30fps resolution. So 4K 30fps wide-angle video mode should give better quality videos with a wider field of view.

iOS 13.1 will annoyingly notify you if your iPhone 11’s screen is fake

Apple is rolling out iOS 13.1 already but there is a new feature it has added that may become annoying when you change your screen.

A support document posted by Apple says that iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max users will get a notification if they replace their screen with a genuine one.

Apparently, the system will try to verify that the replaced screen is a genuine replacement part and when it can’t, it will notify you on the lockscreen for 4 consecutive days. Afterward, it will move the message to the main settings menu for another 15 days after which it will move it to Settings > General > About.

Apple Non-genuine display warning

The new feature only applies to the new iPhone 11 series. There is no mention of previous models getting it.

Apple advises that only certified technicians who have completed Apple’s service training and who use Apple genuine parts and tools should replace displays. Repairs should also be done by Apple, authorized service providers and certified technicians.

Below is a list of problems that Apple says can occur due to to the installation of a non-genuine screen:

Multi-Touch Issues

  • Multi-Touch might not respond on parts of the screen
  • Multi-Touch performance, such as missed screen touches or touches not registering in the right location
  • Touches might unexpectedly register during a phone call
  • Display might not turn off during phone calls
  • Accidental edge or palm touches might register

Display Brightness and Color Issues

  • True Tone display doesn’t function correctly
  • Lost or degraded function of the ambient light sensor, causing the screen to dim or brighten incorrectly
  • Incorrect display color calibration, such as the display to appearing too yellow or blue
  • Display isn’t uniformly bright
  • Lower maximum brightness
  • Unintentional battery drain

Chinese innovative startup Smartisan was recently revealed to have partnered with TikTok creator ByteDance, or Douyin as it is known in mainland China, to launch a branded smartphone. Since then nothing has been heard from the Chinese company, well, until now. Smartisan has scheduled a launch event for October 31 in China. We are not sure what the company will announce but it could be the ByteDance-branded phone.Smartisan

Smartisan has got a large stash of patents but the deal with ByteDance saw the company transferring most of its patents to ByteDance. Thus, it is believed that whatever the company will unveil will be related to the TikTok owner.

Moreover, as at July when it was confirmed that the two firms were in cooperation, the smartphone was reported to have been in development for over seven months. In that case, it is possible the first smartphone under the partnership is set to drop.

The phone maker may as well be planning to launch its own branded smartphone.  We’ll keep our ears don for more information about the upcoming product.
