Motorola One Action vs Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Samsung Galaxy A50: Specs Comparison

Motorola just tried to innovate the smartphones sector by releasing the One Action: a phone with an integrated action camera. But innovation is not everything, especially for a midrange device like this. There are a lot of factors which determine the success of a smartphone and the power of the competition is one of the most important ones. That is why we always compare the newly-announced smartphones with their most valid rivals. To compete with the Motorola One Action, we chose the new Xiaomi Mi A3 and the best-selling Samsung Galaxy A50. Through this in-depth specs comparison, we will try to establish whether the Motorola One Action will stand a chance against them in the global market.

Design

Despite the Motorola One Action has a way more attractive punch-hole design, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is undoubtedly the most beautiful and suggestive smartphone if we talk about the design. Indeed, unlike its rivals, it has a premium design with a glass back and an aluminum frame just like flagship phones. Both Motorola One Action and Samsung Galaxy A50 are made of plastic, even though the former is splash resistant with the IPX2 certification. Further, Xiaomi Mi A3 is much more compact due to its smaller display and its narrow bezels. If we exclude the Xiaomi Mi A3, I would go for the Motorola One Action due to its punch-hole design and its splash resistant body, despite it does not feature an in-display fingerprint reader (it is rear-mounted on the Motorola logo).

Display

Xiaomi Mi A3 loses the comparison because despite being equipped with an AMOLED panel, it has just a 720p resolution, so it does not provide a high level of detail. Motorola One Action has a very attractive punch-hole display as stated above, but it is an LCD panel. The most convincing one is the Samsung Galaxy A50 which boasts a Super AMOLED display with a high Full HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint reader, as well as a bigger display size that is more suitable for multimedia, productivity users and gamers.

Specs & Software

If we consider the most expensive memory configurations, Samsung Galaxy A50 dominates the hardware comparison. On the paper, Samsung Exynos 9610 looks more powerful than the Snapdragon 665 found on the Xiaomi Mi A3, even though there is to consider that the Galaxy A50 is not part of the Android program and it does not have a lightweight user interface. But the Samsung Galaxy A50 is the only to be equipped with up to 6 GB of RAM which means better performance in multi-tasking scenarios.

Camera

If we only consider rear cameras, Motorola One Action is the very game changer here. The phone boasts an ultrawide sensor which works independently from the others and comes with some action camera-like features. It is able to record 1080p videos at 60 fps with electronic stabilization and it records landscape videos even if the phone is held vertically, in order to make mounting the phone easier on external supports just like action cameras. The ultrawide sensor does not shoot photos: for that, the Motorola One Action relies on a 12 MP sensor which also records 4K videos. While Motorola One Action has the most interesting rear cameras, Xiaomi Mi A3 is better at selfies with its 32 MP snapper. Samsung Galaxy A50 is still a great camera phone, but it sits behind Xiaomi Mi A3 and Motorola One Action.

Battery

The battery life champion is the Xiaomi Mi A3 not only because it has a bigger battery, but also because it has to manage a more efficient display with a smaller size and a 720p resolution. Xiaomi Mi A3 also comes with the fastest charging technology (18W power and Quick Charge 3 support). At the second place, there is Samsung Galaxy A50 with its 4000 mAh battery, but despite having just 30 mAh less than Xiaomi Mi A3 it lasts a lot less due to its more demanding display.

Price

Motorola One Action just hitten the European market with a €289 listing price for the 4/128 GB configuration, Samsung Galaxy A50 starts from €250 for the 4/64 GB variant, and Xiaomi Mi A3 carries a €220 price tag for the 4/64 GB configuration. Despite it is not part of the Android One program, I think Samsung Galaxy A50 is a more complete device for a lot of people due to its big battery, an advanced display, good performance, and an overall well-balanced specs sheet. But if you do not care so much about the battery life, then Motorola One Action may be a better option due to its amazing camera. If you like compact phones and beautiful designs, then you would better go for the Xiaomi Mi A3. In each case, you get an amazing mid-ranger with just marginal differences compared to its competitors.

Testing the GameSir G6s Touchroller gamepad for iPhone

With many aspects of the tech industry having reached a plateau and other blooming, one would say that now is the best and worst time to buy a product. In short, excellent but very homogenous products are available, especially in the gaming peripherals industry.
Many tried and many failed to change this status quo and a new product is ready to try doing that again. It is the GameSir G6s Touchroller mobile gamepad. When you are someone like me that reminisces the analog gamepads of Nintendo’s NES but at the same time loves the magic of the iPhone touchscreen, my expectations were not very high when I decided to try the upcoming gamepad.

GameSir G6s touchroller

Inspired by hybrid cars’ design and philosophy, the company’s engineers and designers unveiled their idea: combine the advantages of the traditional analog sticks and the fancy touchscreen controller. The GameSir G6s touchroller gamepad for iPhone (not a very intuitive name to be honest) comes in a decent package that includes the G6s gamepad, a micro-USB cable, and a manual. Simple and clear. Holding it in hand feels great and you an wait to start pressing the buttons while gaming, as the feel like a mechanical keyboard’s keys. Clicky with clear feedback and pressing distance.

GameSir G6s touchroller

Of course, no matter how fantastic an accessory may seem, it’s a no-go if it isn’t user friendly. Thankfully, it took just 30 seconds to connect it to my iPhone X via Game G-Crux. Apart from that, gamers can customize the button mapping via G-Crux, again, the entire process is just simple and friendly. But time had come for some serious PUBG gaming.

GameSir G6s touchroller

While playing, the left side hosts the analog controllers while my right hand controls the touchscreen and R1 trigger button. Of course, every new gamepad takes a little time to get used to but as good are the ergonomics of a gamepad the fastest you get used to it. And the G6s did a great job since it took just a few minutes for me to feel comfortable using it. Well-thought design GameSir.

GameSir G6s touchroller

Another interesting feature is that the G6s is equipped with dual vibration motors and you can decide which button vibrates relating which action you do in-gaming. With this function, when firing, you can feel a delicate vibration and you feel like holding the real thing in your hand.

GameSir G6s touchroller

Of course, the perfect product is yet to be released and the GameSir G6s has its flaws too. For starters, it comes in only one color (Black) and I hope that the company will add more options in the future. The other important flaw is that there is no information about Android compatibility for the time being. That’s bad news for Android users and I really hope that they take it into consideration. All in all, I would give it an 8.4 overall score:

  • Innovation: 8.8/10
  • Quality: 8.0/10
  • Feedback: 8.5/10
  • Portability: 8/10
  • Control:8.5/10

The bottom line is that the G6s combines the advantages of an analog controller with the smoothness of touchscreen, and that could be very promising for the future of mobile gaming controllers. It certainly does serve the manufacturer’s vision of offering gamers the chance to enjoy the pure joy of gaming. The GameSir G6s Touchroller is currently in crowdfunding stage and you can back it on Indiegogo.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro latest update brings DC dimming

Huawei’s 2018 flagship, the Mate 20 Pro is still a hot-selling model and an awesome device in all aspect. The company has been consistent in pushing update to the phone and that isn’t expected to stop soon. The Mate 20 Pro started receiving the much-touted  EMUI 9.1 update at the end of June. EMUI 9.1 was announced with lots of fanfare, projected as packing several stunning features such as the new EROFS file system, GPU Turbo 3.0, and Moon mode for the camera.huawei mate 20 pro

DC dimming wasn’t one of the features the new update brought but right now, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has started getting another update that brings this feature. DC dimming is gaining widespread popularity with each passing month especially among the Chinese smartphone makers. Most of them have already pushed updates or included DC dimming on their models  sporting an OLED screens. The Huawei P30 Pro had earlier gotten its update ushering DC dimming earlier in June. The Mate 30 Pro update delivers the firmware version EMUI 9.1.0.135 and is currently on the China ROM. When it starts rolling out globally, you can enable it on your Mate 20 Pro by going to Settings > Display > Eye comfort > Enable Flicker reduction.

DC dimming essentially controls the brightness of the display by varying the power supplied to the circuit. There are two methods to control the screen’s brightness — Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Dimming and DC Dimming. In PWM, the width of the light pulse is varied to control the brightness of the display panel while in DC dimming, the power supplied to the circuit is varied to control the brightness. You can read more about DC dimming from our article here.

Xiaomi’s latest “crowdfunder” is the Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest priced at 399 yuan ($56)

Xiaomi has got products that cater to the needs of every member of the family including the beloved pet. Here’s a new product for our pet, the Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest. The size makes it suitable for small pets like cats or puppies or even small breeds of dog like the Chihuahua. However, the manufacturer recommends its use for cats below 8kg and small dogs that weigh below 4kg.Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest

The Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest adopts a spectacular design that resembles a space capsule. The entire space is 33L large. The nest isn’t just a cute shelter for your pet but also comes with smart temperature control which regulates the coldness or warmness of the nest. Xcentz Bluetooth Neckband Headphones Review – Excellent Quality for the Price

The market of wireless earphones is pretty crowded and it might be hard to choose the right pair of buds, especially if you are on a budget. I’ve come across the Xcentz Bluetooth necklace style earphones that cost about $30 but they are just packed with features.

VIDEO REVIEW

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exfrOhxETDo[/embedyt]

UNBOXING

The earphones are shipped in quite a nice looking packaging where all the accessories are packed neatly.

Inside the box, you can find a few extra ear tips, USB cable, and some paperwork.

DESIGN and COMFORT

As for design, we are looking at a very light necklace-type headset. You rubber material of the necklace is nice to the skin and feels comfortable.

The actual headphones have a quality metal housing and they can be attached to one another using magnets. The overall build quality is really good. The Xcentz earphones look and feel a bit more expensive than they actually cost.

I found the earphones to be comfortable to wear for hours and they do not fall out of my ears, which is really important to any type of music device.

The controller allows you to play/pause, increase/decrease the volume, skip tracks or turn on/off the headphones.

All of the design pictures:

[envira-gallery id=”270554″]

KEY FEATURES and TEST NOTES

The key features of the Xcentz earphones include Bluetooth 5 which has better range (about 30m) over previous generation Bluetooth protocols.

Further, the headset is sweat proof thanks to IPX7 certification meaning you can use the device in the rain or at the gym while sweating and burning calories.

The battery life has been really good. I could get over 8 hours of music playback on a single charge. A 10-minute charge keeps you going for 70 minutes which is another highlight feature of the Xcentz earphones.

The built-in mic assures pretty good call quality as people on the other end could hear me properly and without significant sound distortions.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality is really good considering the price of the earphones.

The sound is balanced, the volume output is really good and I like soft and punchy bass. Further, I like a good separation between lows, mids and highs. Overall, I’m really impressed with the sound quality given the price tag of just below $30.

CONCLUSIONS

The Xcentz neckband earphones are really impressive considering the price. They offer nice design, excellent build, good comfort and most importantly, the sound quality is really good.

I’ve used the earphones for more than 2 weeks and so far, I haven’t noticed any shortcomings.

If you add the latest Bluetooth 5, good battery life with quick charging support and IPX7 water resistance rating, you are looking at a high-quality pair of earphones that I can easily recommend.

Xiaomi TV General Manager claims Redmi TV is coming soon

TVs seem to be the new hot thing that all the smartphone companies want in on right now. Honor made a big splash into the market with their Honor Vision. OnePlus is currently in the process of making their own smart TV. Now, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is hoping to enter the TV market very soon.

Earlier today, Li Xiaoshuang, General Manager of Xiaomi’s TV segment shared a note about the upcoming Redmi TV on Weibo. He mentioned “Xiaomi TV has a strong team, and has outstanding performance in terms of image quality, sound effects, and systems. It will take time to reach the level of Xiaomi TV”. He also added, “I found that the friends are quite powerful and should pay attention to it.”

Before this, the Redmi TV had already appeared with the product code “L70M5” on China’s National Quality Certification Center listing. The product certification was issued on July 19th under the name TPV Technology (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. On top of this, the TV also acquired 3C certification not too long ago.

Meanwhile, it is rumored that Redmi TV will be available in two sizes – 40 inches and 70 inches models and both TVs will be equipped with 4K UHD resolution. It will directly compete with Huawei’s Honor Smart TV and OnePlus Smart TV. We expect Redmi TV will be announced in the month of September or early this year.

OPPO VP confirms new Reno models coming later this year but no in-screen camera phone

OPPO launched its brand new OPPO Reno series earlier this year and the lineup has turned out to be quite popular among customers, especially in China. The company is now planning to take advantage of its popularity by introducing new models in the Reno series.

OPPO Reno vs Huawei P30 Pro-1
OPPO Reno vs Huawei P30 Pro

OPPO’s VP Brian Shen has been quite vocal about the brand’s upcoming products. He revealed earlier today that there would be at least two OPPO Reno branded products later this year. He also mentioned another product that’s likely not a part of the Reno series. Weibo users speculate that the new product could be OPPO’s new noise-canceling over the ear headphones. Or it could be a Pikachu themed Power Bank with support for SuperVOOC charging. We had seen a similar power bank last year, so it could be an update to the old model.

OPPO Pikachu Super VOOC power bank

Brian also confirmed OPPO won’t release the previously detailed in-screen camera smartphone this year. There won’t be an OPPO TV either.

So OPPO is likely going to focus on adding more models in the Reno series in the remaining half of year. The Reno lineup already has four models, the OPPO Reno, OPPO Reno Z, OPPO Reno 10X Zoom, and the OPPO Reno 5G.

Xiaomi Product Director hints that the MIUI 11 launch isn’t far off

China-based smartphone maker Xiaomi is currently developing the next version of its custom Android user interface which will be called MIUI 11. Recently, the Product Manager and Design Director for MIUI had shared some features that we can expect from the upcoming MIUI 11.

Now, Xiaomi’s Product Director and Experience Chief for MIUI has hinted that the launch of the MIUI 11 isn’t far away. The company has said that the MIUI 11 is positioned as a “new unique OS” and along with new features, it will also address the advertisement issues.

MIUI 11

Earlier, the company had announced that it will be optimizing and monitoring the advertisements on the MIUI platform. The company has already started reducing the number of advertising spots and will further reduce the spots in the coming months.

Xiaomi is also going to introduce an easy switch in the MIUI system tools to disable advertisements. So, in the next couple of months, Xiaomi aims to provide a lighter and fresher MIUI which is likely to happen with MIUI 11.

The upcoming user interface will introduce a brand new set of system icons that have been redesigned from the ground up. The new icons will also have a unified design. Another feature coming to MIUI is an ultimate power saving mode where all system functions are turned off except calls and messages.

In this mode, all colors will be turned off and the UI will switch to a monochrome mode to conserve power. Users will be able to customize this power-saving mode too in case they want a certain app to still function.

Further, the MIUI 11 will also automatically delete screenshots after they have been shared with others. The status bar will also be optimized and more apps will support the phone’s built-in dark mode.

Huawei AR/VR Glasses gets trademarked, could get launched at IFA 2019

A few months ago, at the launch event of Huawei P30 series smartphones, the company had also announced a partnership between Huawei and Gentle Monster, a Korea-based fashion brand.

Both the companies have been working on developing the first smart glasses for Huawei. The said AR/VR smart glasses are expected to be stylish and will look like normal sunglasses at first glance.

Now, new trademark applications filed by the company hints that the device has gone through the development process and is all set to get unveiled at IFA 2019.

Huawei AR/VR Glasses

A couple of days ago, on 14th August, Huawei Technologies filed two trademarks application to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) and at the UK IPO (Intellectual Property Office) for the names Huawei VR Glass and Huawei AR Glass.

Both the applications have been categorized as Class 9 with description mentioning smartglasses, smartwatches, smartphones, 3D spectacles, and eyeglasses. The applications for the same were submitted by Forresters from Munich, Germany.

This is the same company that filed applications earlier this month for the names Huawei SuperSensing Camera and Cine Lens, both are probably meant for the Huawei Mate 30 series phones, which are expected to get launched around October.

Earlier this year, the company had shared details of its developing AR glasses, which would be the first to come with a built-in Voice Assistant. Thanks to a built-in microphone and speakers, it is also possible to to make telephone calls via the smart glasses. The glasses are IP67 certified, making it water and dust resistant.

In addition, it’s also possible to charge them through Wireless charging as well as through the included leather case with USB Type-C connection. The Huawei smart glasses will come powered by a big 2,200mAh battery.

While the company didn’t reveal the launch date of its smart glasses, there were reports about them getting launched in July 2019. Since they are not official yet, it’s possible that the company could launch them at the upcoming IFA 2019, which kcks-off on 6th September in Berlin, Germany.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro real images appear to show its rear design for the first time

Huawei is expected to unleash the Mate 30 series of flagship phones in the latter half of the September month. Couple of leaked shots of the front panel of the purported Huawei Mate 30 Pro and the actual device have appeared in the recent past to reveal its display design. Two new photos of the same phone seem to have appeared today to reveal its front and rear design.

Just like the real image of the Mate 30 that had appeared in the previous week, the new image shows the handset enclosed in a case to conceal its identity. Hence, it is not clear whether the phone shown in the images belong to the Huawei Mate 30 or Mate 30 Pro.

A closer look at the display of the phone shows its pronounced curvature towards its edges. A recent leak had revealed that the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will both arrive with dual-edge curved displays. However, the Mate 30 Pro will have a curvier screen than the Mate 30.  Probably, the handset shown in the new images could be the Mate 30 Pro. A closer look at the top portion of the screen reveals the presence of a wide notch that could be housing all kinds of sensors for 3D face unlock, front camera and so on.

Shown below is the first real shot of the rear side of the purported Mate 30 Pro’s back panel. The rear cameras are completely hidden by the case, but a long LED strip along some other sensors seems to be present alongside it. It matches with the below shown case renders of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

The recently spotted Mate 30 Pro case renders had revealed that the phone will come equipped with a round-shaped camera module with three lenses and a square-shaped LED flash inside it. However, the long strip does not seem to appear like LED flash. It also suggested that the phone will continue to sport an in-screen fingerprint reader.

In terms of specs, the rumor mill has so far revealed that the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will be housing a 6.71-inch display with quad HD+ resolution support. The 7nm Kirin 990 chipset that is slated to go official at IFA 2019 tech trade show next month could be fueling the smartphone with up to 12 GB of RAM. The handset could be equipped with a 4,200mAh battery that supports 55W fast charging and fast wireless charging. For photography, the phone could be featuring a pair of 40-megapixel sensors on its rear. Huawei is expected to unleash the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro on Sept. 19. Hopefully, the company may also unveil the massive Mate 30 X as the successor of Mate 20 X. As of this writing, there is no proof on its existence.
