Oclean X touchscreen Toothbrush rakes in over ¥13.82 million in crowdfunding

It has been two weeks already, and an eventful one at that, since Xiaomi launched the Oclean X Sonic toothbrush under the Youpin platform for crowdfunding. The toothbrush was unique in that it comes with a touchscreen which displays all the relevant brushing parameters and other details you would have checked from a smartphone app.Oclean X

The Oclean X crowdfunding exercise ended today and Oclean has released the result of the exercise. Turn out the Oclean X elicited strong interest among buyers in China and even outside China. The crowdfunding saw the smart toothbrush generating the huge sum of 13.82 million yuan. This sum was raised by 55,524 backers. That is monumental for an electric toothbrush but we believe the success is hinged on the touchscreen display and other smart features it packs. The Oclean X was offered for 249 yuan (~$36) with an extra brush head during the crowdfunding but will go on sale for 299 yuan (~$43) now that the crowdfunding is over.Oclean X Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush

In terms of appearance, Oclean X is not too different from the previous-generation Oclean products such as the Oclean Air. The biggest feature is obviously the oval-shaped coloured touchscreen display. From the display, you can view the time, weather, choose brushing mode, check dental health information, brushing feedbacks and so on, so that brushing teeth become more scientific, effective and simple. The touch experience is very user-friendly and responsive.oclean x

EDITOR’S PICK: Huawei has shipped over 100 million devices in 2019

Oclean X Smart touch screen electric toothbrush can bring more intuitive information display and interactive experience in the sense that you don’t have to go through a smartphone app to monitor the brushing pattern but it can be viewed directly on the screen. The toothbrush also comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support and is compatible with phones running Android 4.4 or iOS 8.0 and higher. Thus, it can also be paired to a smartphone in case you need to view the parameter on a larger screen. On the mobile app, you can also view more details as the blind zones are divided into 8 zones. The Oclean X has a built-in 6-axis gyroscope which can collect up to 1500 real-time brushing data every minute. It monitors the slight changes of brushing gestures, locates the brushing blind zone, and gives scientific feedback results.

Rumors suggest that the company could be gearing up to launch the Moto E6 series. The Moto E6 Plus was recently spotted on Geekbench and today reliable tipster Evan Blass has shared the press render of the upcoming Moto E6 phone.

The Moto E6 image shows that its display is surrounded by thick bezels. The Motorola branding is placed on the chin of the device whereas a selfie snapper and an earpiece can be found on the top bezel. A volume rocker and a power key are available on the right edge of the device.

The topside of the Moto E6 features a 3.5mm audio jack. The textured back is fitted with a single camera and an LED flash. The bottom edge of the phone is not shown in the image. However, it is very likely to feature a microUSB 2.0 port and a speaker grille. The new image resembles with the leaked press render that had appeared in the previous month.

Huawei have just officially launched the Huawei MediaPad M6 alongside the earlier Huawei Nova 5 announcement. As we already knew, the device comes in two size options, both with minute differences between them. Now we’re going to take a closer look at these devices, their specs and their features.

First off the two size options available are a 10.8-inch model and an 8.4-inch model. Both versions of the Huawei MediaPad M6 come with 2K display resolution. Keeping these screens running are the batteries in here, which are pretty decent in size. The smaller 8.4-inch tablet will get a 6100mAh battery, while the 10.8-inch variant gets a massive 7500mAh battery instead.

Both variants of the MediaPad M6 are powered by the octa-core Huawei Kirin 980 CPU, dual NPUs, and a Mali-G76 GPU with GPU Turbo 3.0 support. As expected, the volume rocker, the power button, a USB Type-C port, MicroSD card tray and even a 3.5mm audio jack all sit on the right-hand side. What’s most impressive about the Huawei MediaPad M6 devices are their audio solutions. Both devices come with four-channel speakers that ensure crisp and powerful sound. They’re tuned by Harman-Kardonn, and Huawei claims this will help produce loud and booming bass. We’re inclined to agree considering how the MediaPad devices have always had good audio.

So, what about pricing? The Huawei MediaPad M6 comes in several different price configurations taking into account their storage and connectivity options. To simplify things a lot and make it more digestible, you can check the list below for pricing.

Huawei has shipped over 100 million devices in 2019

At the moment, Huawei is holding a new product launch conference at Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center. At the event, we are waiting for a few new products to be announced. Of course, the most anticipated is the Nova 5 series devices. Before that though, Huawei’s consumer product line president He Gang took to the stage to announce that the company had successfully achieved 100 million sales on the 30th of May.

This is absolutely mind blowing from a numbers standpoint. To put this into perspective, this would mean that every 1 second, Huawei sells more than 7 smartphones worldwide. This is also 49 days faster than last year, which shows Huawei is still growing at a pretty speedy rate.

We’re eager to see how much more the company can grow later in 2019. Huawei’s strong first quarter performance is clearly not affected by the ban. Whether the company can continue this momentum remains to be seen, though it’s quite likely we’ll see these numbers go lower. After all, even Huawei have been less optimistic lately, which is quite a shame.

We’re still eager to see how the company continues from this point onwards. Later today we’ll be seeing the official Huawei Nova 5 launch, as well as their new tablets. How they’ll effect Huawei’s future sales, we’ve no clue, but we hope for the best that nothing too bad happens to the company. It’s quite sad to see, but things aren’t all bad at the very least.

Huawei announces 7nm Kirin 810 octa-core processor with a special focus on AI

As expected, China-based tech giant Huawei has today announced its latest upper mid-range mobile chipset — Kirin 810. With this, Huawei has now become the world’s first smartphone company to have two chipsets based on a 7nm process in its portfolio.

The HiSilicon Kirin 810 is an octa-core processor which comes equipped with two Cortex-A76 high-performance large cores clocked at 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 energy efficient small cores clocked at 1.88 GHz. It is coupled with Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing.

Huawei Kirin 810 SoC

The newly announced chipset comes with the new Huawei DaVinci architecture NPU, which consumes less energy and has artificial intelligence (AI) technology running at over 32,280 points, surpassing the scores of Snapdragon 855 SoC and Snapdragon 730 SoC.

The chipset is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm mode, the same process that was used to manufacture flagship chipsets such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Apple A12 Bionic, among others.

The company says that the image processing capability of this new smartphone processor is at par with those of the flagship grade SoCs. Huawei has included a powerful night vision algorithm for higher brightness and greater tolerance.

It comes with NPU and Huawei HiAi 2.0 which aims at improving the performance of the artificial intelligence technology and the company has added support for a Game+ mode aiming to enhance the gaming experience.

The Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 810 octa-core processor is the first chipset under the company’s all-new Kirin 800-series. As evident from the name, it is an upper mid-range processor, placed between the mid-range Kirin 700-series and the top-end Kirin 900-series.

Huawei Nova 5 is the first smartphone to come powered by this new Kirin 810 octa-core 7nm chipset. Apart from that, the upcoming Huawei 9X Pro is also said to be powered by the same processor.

Lenovo Z6 coming with powerful SoC, Sony AI triple camera and large-sized battery

Lenovo has already launched two Z-series smartphones this year. The Lenovo Z6 Pro came with Snapdragon 855 chipset onboard whereas the budget-friendly Lenovo Z6 Youth Edition features the Snapdragon 710. Now the company is prepping up to launch the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Earlier this month, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng had shared teaser images of the Lenovo Z6 phone. Today, he has shared an image that reveals some of the key features of the phone.

The first thing that can be confirmed through the image is that the Lenovo L78121 model number that has been spotted on the database on China’s 3C and TENAA as well as on Geekbench belongs to the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Without revealing the exact name of the processor, the image reveals that the phone is powered by “God U” processor. Probably, it could be hinting that the Lenovo Z6 is fueled by a powerful processor.

The Geekbench listing of the Lenovo Z6 that had appeared earlier this week did not carry the name of its chipset. However, the benchmarking scores and base frequency recorded by the processor suggested that the Lenovo Z6 could be powered by the Snapdragon 730. The only other phones that feature the SD730 chip include Xiaomi Mi 9T (aka Redmi K20 in China) and Samsung Galaxy A80.

Lenovo Z6 teaser
Lenovo Z6

Coming back to the image shared by Cheng, it reveals that the Lenovo Z6 features AI powered triple cameras by Sony. The Chinese text for the display information mentioned on the image translates to “color laser screen.” Since the Lenovo Z6 Pro and Z6 Youth Edition are equipped with waterdrop-like notch display, the Lenovo Z6 could be also equipped with the same kind of display design. Probably, the Lenovo Z6 may come with 6.3-inch display and 4,000mAh battery.

The exact size of the battery of the Lenovo Z6 is not known yet. However, the image states that the rechargeable battery of the phone can last for up to 2 days on a single charge. The 3C listing of the phone had revealed that it will carry support for 18W fast charging. When it comes to design, the smartphone will be flaunting an impressive design with four curved sides.

The official images that were shared earlier in this month by Cheng have confirmed that the phone will be available in at least Brown and Blue color options. The TENAA listing of the phone is yet to be populated with its specs and images.

Xiaomi to invest additional $725 million in China to boost its business

China-based smartphone maker Xiaomi, which is already investing to boost its retail operations in the company’s home market, is now planning to invest additional $725 million towards retail growth in China in order to counter the growth of Huawei.

As per the reports, the additional $725 million will be spent by the company on reward programs for sales employees and retail partners as well as expanding Xiaomi’s distribution channels.

In China, Xiaomi currently ranks fourth in terms of smartphone sales, trailing behind Huawei, Samsung, and Apple. As per the data, Xiaomi holds around 12 percent of the Chinese smartphone market, compared to 34 percent captured by Huawei.

Xiaomi Logo

The sales of Xiaomi declined by a small percentage in Q1 2019, from 27.8 million smartphones sold in Q1 2018 to 27.5 million sold in Q1 2019, securing 8 percent of the Chinese market. On the other hand, Huawei rose 41 percent and held 19 percent of the Chinese smartphone market in the same quarter.

Going forward, Huawei is looking to increase its hold on the Chinese smartphone market from 34 percent to 50 percent to make up the profit difference after the company got banned from doing business with US-based companies and technologies.

Xiaomi was so focused on its online sales strategy in the Chinese market that the company refrained from growing its offline sales channel. Meanwhile, it’s competitors captured the offline market, which in turn affected Xiaomi’s overall growth in its home market.

However, learning from its mistakes, Xiaomi started investing heavily in the Indian market to boost its offline presence. Now, Xiaomi is the dominating player in India’s smartphone market, followed by Samsung.

The additional investment for Xiaomi in order to boost its Chinese business comes at a time when Huawei is going through a rough patch. The Trump administration has banned Huawei and some 60 subsidiaries from selling and doing business with US entities and companies. Earlier this week, Huawei said that it could lose around $30 billion over the next two years because of the Trump Ban.

Google’s decision of axing its Pixel line of tablets will have no impact on the Pixel smartphones. While the Nexus series of Android tablets that were launched in the past competed well with Apple iPads, the newer Pixel tablets could not rival with Apple iPad and Microsoft Surface products.

Xiaomi’s latest crowdfunder: The Roidmi NEX Wireless Vacuum Cleaner

Today we’ve got another new Xiaomi crowdfunder to talk about, that being the Roidmi NEX Wireless Vacuum Cleaner. As you might expect, it’s very much a new vacuum cleaner, but with a lot of extras onboard. The big thing is that it can also simultaneously function as a mop if need be. So, let’s take a closer look at the Roidmi NEX Wireless Vacuum Cleaner.

The Roidmi’s main claim to fame is the ability to vacuum and mop. For the mop section of the device, the company’s come up with some sort of intelligent slow-drop technology. Essentially the effect is that it absorbs and retains more moisture while you’re mopping. On top of this, they’ve also developed a new nano-scale hydrophobic fiber soft velvet roller brush, which is waterproof and stain-resistant.

For the vacuum part, Roidmi touts an Engine-X digital brushless motor, with a speed of up to 120,000 rpm and a total power of 435W. There’s also Air-X dust separation technology to keep the vacuum from clogging up. We’ve even got front and rear air filtration, which allows the vacuum to expel clean air after it’s gotten rid of all the dust.

The Roidmi NEX Wireless Vacuum Cleaner has a stand for powering its 8 Samsung/LG batteries. The presence of the BMS-X battery management system allows the vacuum to optimize itself, though it only lasts an hour on a full charge. There’s even a smartphone app available the allows a user to monitor the amount of battery life left in the vacuum. The device costs 1699 yuan ($248) from Xiaomi’s crowdfunding platform.

Apple plans to move more of their production out of China

Apple is contemplating on shifting between 15% and 30% of its manufacturing outside of China. According to Nikkei, the fruit company has been going around asking prominent players and key suppliers like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron for insight about opening a factory in another country.

The catalyst for the shift is the ongoing trade war between China and the US, which is expected to intensify at the end of this month with the introduction of 25 percent tariffs on devices including phones, laptops, and tablets. However, Apple reportedly wants to shift production regardless of whether the trade dispute gets resolved.

“A lower birthrate, higher labor costs and the risk of overly centralizing its production in one country. These adverse factors are not going anywhere,” said one executive with knowledge of the situation. “With or without the final round of the $300 billion tariff, Apple is following the big trend [to diversify production],” giving itself more flexibility, the person added.

Outside of China, Apple is almost undoubtedly spoilt for choice. We’ve got a couple of Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, as well as Mexico and India. However, according to executives who are part of the talks, Apple has seemingly marked both India and Vietnam as potential favourites.

News of Apple’s plans come just weeks after Foxconn said that it has enough capacity outside China to make enough iPhones for the US market if required. It also follows the announcement from Google’s Nest division and Nintendo that their products will no longer be produced in China. Instead, production will be shifted to Thailand and Vietnam.

At this stage, Apple still hasn’t set a deadline for the big move, as it’s still waiting on its suppliers’ advise over which country would be most ideal for its shift. Sadly, the brand also failed to specify how many jobs in its China outlet would be affected by the 15% to 30% shift.
