New Leaks reveals Honor 9X will have a pop-up camera, AMOLED display and more

Yesterday, it was officially confirmed that the Honor 9X will be announced on July 23. Prior to the announcement of the release date, alleged specs of the phone already leaked. Now a new set of leaks have surfaced. One shows what the phone will look like and another is a new set of specifications while a third mentions a new feature.

According to the newly leaked specs by Sudhanshu Ambhore, the Honor 9X will have a 6.15-inch AMOLED display with a 2240 x 1080 resolution. The display is smaller than that of the Honor 8X but fans of the series will be excited to see that Honor is switching to AMOLED. However, that may also mean the phone will be priced higher.

It is a bit unusual that Honor will use an AMOLED display on its mid-range phones when its latest flagships, the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro have LCD displays. But it is understandable as the Honor 20 phones had to settle for punch hole LCD displays since Samsung is the only manufacturer with phones that have punch hole AMOLED displays.

The leak says the phone will have an octa-core processor but doesn’t specify which one it is. Previous leaks have revealed it will be powered by the new 7nm Kirin 810 chipset that launched with the Nova 5. The SoC will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Honor 9X will have a 20MP selfie camera and dual rear cameras (20MP + 16MP). It will also have support for 10W charging via a USB-C port. That seems slow for a phone that packs an AMOLED display and a 7nm chipset.

The source of the second leak is Evan Blass (@evleaks) who tweeted a diagram of the phone with the caption “Honor 9X”. The image is said to be from the phone’s user manual.

The image shows the Honor 9X will have a display that nearly covers the entire front of the phone. The bezels have been trimmed down but the chin is slightly thicker than the rest.

The phone doesn’t have a punch hole or notch too. Instead, it rocks a pop-up selfie camera just like the Huawei P Smart Z and Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. Going by the leaked specs above, the selfie camera is a 20MP sensor.

The image also shows the rear of the phone which is home to dual rear cameras. The cameras and the LED flash share the same housing and are positioned on the left side of the phone. The first leaked specs actually said the phone will have triple rear cameras but this image shows otherwise. The new leaked specs also states the phone will have dual rear cameras.

There is no fingerprint scanner on the rear of the Honor 9X but seeing as the phone will be coming with an AMOLED display, that means there should be one under the panel.

The phone’s retail box also surfaced in a video shared by @RODENT950. The box is white at the top with blue sides and there is “9X” and “Honor” inscribed on it.

In another tweet, he says the Honor 9X will support a new gamepad shown below. The gamepad a directional keys and a joystick on one side and action buttons and another joystick on the opposite side. There are some extra buttons too on each side.

He adds that the Honor Play will not be getting a successor this year or ever, so the X-series will be taking its place which explains why it is getting a gaming accessory.

The Honor 9X should run EMUI 9 based on Android Pie out of the box. It is also expected to come along with a Pro model.

Master Lu benchmark is quite popular in China just like GeekBench is in other markets. The benchmark app recently benchmarked the Snapdragon 665 SoC aboard the new Xiaomi Mi CC9e. Qualcomm first announced the Snapdragon 665 chipset alongside the Snapdragon 730 in April this year.

The Mi CC9e is perhaps the first device that is going official with the new chipset onboard. In terms of performance, the chipset scored 178,992 points. This score is similar to that of the Snapdragon 660 with very little improvement. The Snapdragon 660 Master Lu’s benchmark score as benchmarked on the Redmi Note 7 is 165,683 points. However, the Snapdragon 665 puts AI at the forefront thanks to the Adreno 610 AIE GPU. Xiaomi and its sub-brands are on a roll this year. After Redmi launched a brand new K20 series a month ago, Xiaomi revealed its new CC series yesterday. With the sheer amount of Xiaomi phones in the market, readers are often confused about how they all differ from each other. In fact, on first glance, the new Xiaomi Mi CC9 looks identical to the Xiaomi Mi 9. But don’t be deceived, they differ in more ways than you can imagine. The Xiaomi Mi 9 is a true flagship with Snapdragon 855 on board, while the Mi CC9 is a mid-ranger at best with Snapdragon 710 on board. Further, the Mi 9 has a better rear camera setup with a set of telephoto lens for optical zoom. The Ultrawide mode should also be better on the Mi 9, thanks to a larger 16MP sensor. Unlike the Mi 9, CC9 also doesn’t support 4K 60fps video recording or 960fps slo-mo recording at 1080p. The Mi 9 flagship has an advantage in the number of LTE bands supported, adding worldwide LTE support as well.

But the Xiaomi CC9 isn’t without its own set of unique features. For example, the phone has a larger 4030mAh battery to keep you going for an entire day. It also features a seventh-generation screen fingerprint sensor as opposed to the fifth-gen. one on the Mi 9. Another major difference is the presence of the headphone jack on the CC9. The Xiaomi Mi 9 had to ditch this port to make room for better specs.

As you can see, the Xiaomi Mi 9 and CC9 are different in more ways than you would have imagined. The Mi 9 is targeted at users who are looking for an affordable flagship smartphone with top-end specs. On the other hand, the Xiaomi CC9 is targeted at a younger crowd who don’t want to spend a lot but are looking for a better value for money. That explains why Xiaomi decided to retain a headphone jack on the CC9 (wired headphones are cheaper) and add a better 32MP selfie camera on the front.

Realme X to launch in India on July 15 along with Spider-Man: Far from Home Edition

With Realme launching the Realme X and the Realme X Lite in China back in May, the Indian fans were waiting for an official launch of the Realme X in the domestic market.Realme has just sent out press release invites for the device’s launch on July 15 in New Delhi at 12 PM. The Realme X Lite won’t be launching in India since it has already launched in the country as Realme 3 Pro earlier this year.

Madhav Sheth, Indian CEO for Realme, confirmed via Twitter yesterday that the Realme X Spider-Man: Far from Home Edition will be unveiled in India on July 15. This suggests that the standard version as well as the special Spiderman version will also be showcased at the event. 

The Realme X Spider-Man: Far from Home Edition, which launched in China last week, will go on sale on July 7.The special edition smartphone comes in a custom box with a Spider-Man theme and protective case. The high-end variant of the standard Realme X is dubbed the Master Edition in China, and is available in the Onion and Garlic Special Editions, which is also scheduled for India.

The Realme X is priced at 1,599 Yuan (~$232) and 1,799 Yuan (~$261) in China for the two variants, namely the lower-spec device with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and the higher-spec variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone is available in Punk Blue and Steam White color options.

The Realme X Master Edition is priced at 1,899 Yuan (~$279). It is available in just one variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. According to Sheth’s recent tweet, the Master Edition is also scheduled to arrive in India. He  had earlier confirmed that the Realme X will be priced around Rs. 18,000 (~$261) in India, although, this could be for the base variant. The pricing of the higher-spec variants are currently unknown.

Realme X Specifications and Features

The Realme X features a 6.53-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a notch-less design. It has an in-display fingerprint scanner and uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. The smartphone draws power from a 3,765 mAh battery with 20W VOOC Flash Charge support, and runs on the Android 9.0 Pie OS skinned with ColorOS 6.

The smartphone features a triple camera setup at the rear, with a 48-megapixel primary camera along with two 5-megapixel depth sensor. The Realme X also has a 16-megapixel pop-up front camera for selfies and video calling. The device misses out on expandable storage. Its  connectivity options include dual-4G VOLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C, GPS and a 3.5-mm AUX port.

Sheth confirmed that the Realme X heading to India is not the same device that is available in China. Rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 730 SoC, which currently powers the Xiaomi Redmi K20, could be seen in the Indian version of Realme X.

Motorola P50 launching this week; Key specifications officially confirmed

Motorola China had hinted that the Motorola P50 smartphone will be launching during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2019 tech trade show that was held between June 25 and June 28 in China. However, it did not come true. Today, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng took to Weibo to release a poster of the phone to confirm on its key specifications. Cheng has also revealed that the Motorola P50 will go official in China in this week.

The Motorola P50 poster reveals that the smartphone houses a 21:9 superwide display. The handset features a 6.34-inch display that produces full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels. It carries support for DCI-P3 color gamut. The display has a punch-hole at its top-left for housing the 25-megapixel selfie camera that comes with features like HDR, NPU smart recognition and AI smart shoot.

The 3D glass rear of the Motorola P50 is curved on all four sides. The Moto logo on the rear is embedded with a fingerprint reader. Motorola P50, a Rebranded Motorola One Vision?

Last year, the Motorola One series phones that were released in international markets were made available in China as Motorola P30 series smartphones. Hence, the Motorola One Vision that has gone official in markets like Brazil and India could be arriving as Motorola P50 in China.

The Motorola One Vision is an Android One phone featuring 6.34-inch punch-hole display that supports 21:9 aspect ratio and full HD+ resolution. Vivo has officially unveiled the Vivo Z1 Pro smartphone in China today. Like the Vivo Z5x that was announced in China in May, the Vivo Z1 Pro features a punch-hole display. It is the first smartphone to arrive in India with Snapdragon 712 chipset. The smartphone is blessed with triple rear cameras and it comes with a massive battery.

Vivo Z1 Pro Specifications and Features

The Vivo Z1 Pro sports a polycarbonate chassis with a glossy finish. The company calls it 3D curved design. The smartphone is fitted with a 6.53-inch LCD panel with a punch-hole design. It offers 19.5:9 aspect ratio and full HD+ resolution. The smartphone boasts a screen-to-body ratio of 90.77 percent. The receiver, proximity sensor and light sensor are placed below the display.

The smartphone features Snapdragon 712 chipset that includes six Kryo 360 Silver cores working at 1.7 GHz and two Kryo 360 Gold cores clocking at 2.3 GHz. The SoC also brings along Adreno 616 graphics on the device. It features up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of native storage.

The Vivo Z1 Pro smartphone boasts a 32-megapixel selfie camera that is planted inside the small round-shaped cutout on the display. It supports 4-in-1 pixel binning technology that makes it possible to capture brighter shots in dim light conditions. The AI triple camera setup available on the rear of the Vivo Z1 Pro features Sony IMX499 16-megeapixel primary sensor with f/1.78 aperture, a 120-degree 8-megapixel superwide lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The FunTouch OS 9 based Android 9 Pie OS is loaded on the Vivo Z1 Pro. There is Multi Turbo technology onboard for improving the device’s overall performance. It includes Game Turbo that accelerates the GPU performance for enhanced gaming experience. Other gaming related features of the phone are 4D in-game vibrations and blue light filter.

The smartphone boasts long-lasting performance since it is backed by a behemoth battery of 5,000mAh capacity. The handset supports 18W dual-engine fast charging. The smartphone can be used for charging other devices using reverse charging function. The other features that are available on the Vivo Z1 Pro are Widevine L1 certification, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, face unlock, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, microUSB and 3.5mm headphone slot.  There is a dedicated hardware button for accessing the Google Assistant. A double tap on the button gives access to Google Lens.

Vivo Z1 Pro Price in India and Availability

Here are the three variants of the Vivo Z1 Pro that have landed in India:

  • 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage – Rs. 16,990 (~$246)
  • 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage – Rs. 17,990 (~$261)

The Vivo Z1 Pro comes in color variants such as Sonic Blue, Sonic Black and Mirror Black. The first sale of the smartphone will begin on July 11 at 12 PM and it will be exclusively available through Flipkart and Vivo India official website. On the first sale day, the smartphone will come with Rs. 750 for ICICI bank card users. Buyers can also take advantage of cashback offer from Reliance Jio.

Nokia 9 PureView lands in Thailand; to go on sale from July 5

Months after HMD Global announced the Nokia 9 PureView flagship smartphone, the device has now been announced in Thailand. The phone will go on sale in Thailand from 5th July, exclusively through online retailer Shopee Mall. In Thailand, the Nokia 9 PureView is priced at THB18,900, which roughly converts to $615.

The Nokia 9 PureView was originally announced at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in February this year. The highlight of the smartphone is that it comes with five camera sensors on the phone’s back panel, enhancing the photography experience.

The smartphone comes with a glass rear and an aluminum frame. It is an IP67-rated water-resistant and dustproof device. It is fitted with a 5.99-inch OLED display that carries support for 2880 x 1440 pixels quad HD+ resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio, HDR10, and Always-on display.

The display of the phone is shielded by Gorilla Glass 5. This is also the first Nokia smartphone that comes with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC, coupled with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.

All the five camera sensors of the Nokia 9 PureView (Details) can function simultaneously to capture a single image of 50-megapixel powered a dedicated image co-processor. With the help of the ToF sensor, the Nokia 9 PureView can capture a depth map with up to 1200 layers of depth data for up to 40 meters away from the camera.

Sitting at the front side of the phone is a 20-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture with Tetracell pixel binning technology that can merge four pixels into one for brighter images in low-light conditions. The front camera also carries support for AI Face Unlock.

The smartphone offers pure Android experience of latest Android 9 Pie OS. Like other Android One phones, the Nokia 9 will be treated with OS updates for two years and security patches for three years. Japanese carrier IIJ starts selling Huawei phones after Trump’s comments

Japanese budget network carrier IIJ has now resumed selling new Huawei devices from this week after the comment from U.S. President Donald Trump which signaled that he would ease up restrictions on exporting components to Huawei.

For those who are unaware, Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) was among the carriers that delayed the Huawei P30 and P30 Lite smartphones, as well as the company’s MediaPad M5 Lite 8-inch tablet, over fears stemming from the American restrictions amid the trade war.

Commenting on this development, IIJ spokesperson said that the “comprehensive” decision-making process behind the move to start selling Huawei devices comes after the talks with the manufacturers as well as Trump’s comments.

Recently, Trump had tweeted that at the request of American technology companies and Chinese President Xi Jinping, “I agreed to allow Chinese company Huawei to buy products from them which will not impact our National Security.”

The Huawei smartphones, which the carrier has now resumed selling, were initially planned to go on sale from May. However, after the ban on Huawei by the United States, the launch was postponed as it was feared that the Chinese giant will lose access to key software and technologies, including Google’s Android mobile OS.

Also, IIJ spokesperson confirmed that they have received assurances from Huawei that “software and security updates would remain usable as they have been until now.” Further, Huawei has also updated its website on June 25 with a reassurance to users that the clash with the Trump administration would not affect its products.

Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) is now selling the Chinese giant’s P30 for 69,800 yen (approximately $644) and the P30 Lite for 29,800 yen (~$277). On the other hand, the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 8-inch tablet is being sold for 24,800 yen, roughly $230.

However, we are yet to hear any such development from other Japanese telecom operators. It remains to be seen if other carriers, including NTT Docomo, KDDI, and SoftBank Corp. follows the suite in selling new Huawei devices.

LG W10 and W30 first sale begins 12 PM in India today

At the end of the previous month, LG unleashed the LG W10, W30 and W30 Pro as its first W-series smartphones in India. Today, the LG W10 and W30 smartphones will be made available for purchase for the first time in India. Amazon India will carry out the first flash sale of the LG W-series phone at 12 PM today. During the unveil event, the South Korean company did not confirm the pricing and availability of the LG W30 Pro. Hence, it is expected to hit the Indian markets later.

Samsung Galaxy M30s production reportedly begins; August launch expected

In the first of the year 2019, Samsung targeted the online market in India by releasing the online-exclusive M-series of smartphones such as Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30 and Galaxy M40 smartphones. Recent reports have revealed that Samsung is working on a new version of M30 that may hit the market with Galaxy M30s moniker. Fresh information reveals that the pre-production of the smartphone has started in India. This indicates that the Galaxy M30s may debut in August.

Claiming information received from a trusted source, 91mobilles has reported that the production process of the Galaxy M30s has begun in the Noida facility in India. Currently, the manufacturing process is in the starting phase and it will take some time for its mass production to begin in full swing. The source has added that the Galaxy M30s will debut as early as next month.

Rumors have it that the upcoming Galaxy M30s has a model number of SM-M307F. The model number of the existing Galaxy M30 is SM-M305. The handset is likely to be slotted in between the Galaxy M30 and Galaxy M40 smartphones.

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Note 10 series smartphones next month and ahead of that, the company has trademarked “DepthVision Lens” technology. Similar to most other trademark filings, there are no details provided regarding this tech.

However, given that the application was filed under Class 9 that covers things such as smartphone cameras, 3D scanning, and smartphone camera software, it’s safe to say that the trademark is indeed related to cameras.

The DepthVision Lens technology is now expected to be present on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series’ camera. Since the technology seems related to 3D scanning, it could be a part of the camera setup that will include Time of Flight (ToF) sensors.

Thus, it seems very likely that the DepthVision Lens is the company’s name for the 3D camera function. That may have prompted Xiaomi to back a Chinese firm which has now launched a smart chopsticks sterilization tube on the Youpin platform.

It has a dimension of 344mm x 87mm x 68mm.

The smart chopstick sterilization kit uses medical grade Ultraviolet radiation which can kill nearly 98% of all bacteria. Samsung had announced the Galaxy A80 smartphone with flip camera through a global unveil event in Thailand in April. The smartphone was expected to release in wider markets in May, but its arrival was delayed. Through a press release, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy A80 is now available for purchase in different markets. The handset will be also available for purchase in India later in this month.

The Galaxy A80 is available for buying in some of the European markets with 649 euros (~$732) price tag. In Malaysia, it carries a price tag of RM 2,500 (~$603). The smartphone comes in color editions like Angel Gold, Phantom Black and Ghost White.

An IANS report states that the Product Planning Group’s Head of Innovation for Samsung, Yeon Jeong Kim has revealed that the Galaxy A80 smartphone will be releasing in India in this month. A landing page for the smartphone on the Samsung India website also suggests that its arrival is close at hand. Unlike the M-series that is exclusively available for buying online, the Galaxy A80 will be purchasable through offline channels. Yeon said to IANS, “Our target is to maintain the top position in the Indian smartphone market. If we win the Indian market, we can win any global market. Indians love technology, therefore, we launch many of our products here and would continue to do so.”

Xiaomi has launched the Marvel Avengers: Endgame Iron Man Mk50 Robot that comes with a price tag of 1,965 yuan (~$286). The robot is manufactured by UBITECH and has already been launched in other markets before now. The Xiaomi-listed price tag isn’t very much different from the price on Amazon.

The robot is a miniature version of Marvel Avenger’s Tony Stark also known as Iron Man. It is integrated with a smartphone app that lets you play as Tony Stark and suit up in the iconic MK50 armor to play through a series of nanotech weapon field tests and battle drones inspired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The game and robot are integrated using Augmented Reality. The robot walks and even talks and is like the game player’s portal into the events themed after Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Realme X Spider-Man: Far From Home Edition to launch in India on July 15

Realme launched the Realme X and Realme X Lite in China back in May. While the latter is actually a rebrand of the Realme 3 Pro sold in India, the former is an entirely new device. The Realme X’s Indian launch was teased a few days ago but a date wasn’t revealed. Now we know when the phone will be announced.

Yesterday, Realme’s CEO, Madhav Sheth, shared a tweet revealing the Realme X Spider-Man: Far From Home edition will be launching soon in India. The accompanying video revealed the special edition phone will launch on July 15 which means the standard edition should also be announced on the same day.

The Realme X Spider-Man: Far From Home Edition already launched in China last week and will be available for purchase on July 7. It comes in a special gift box and includes a custom Spider-Man theme and protective case.

However, we are not sure if its specs (and that of the standard edition) will be the same with the ones sold in China. This is because of a tweet by Madhav Sheth back in May where he said the Realme X may launch with different specs in India.

The tweet also revealed the phone should be priced around INR 18000 (~$260) and will be available in the Garlic and Onion special variants as well as a third special variant. We already know that third special variant is the Spider-Man: Far From Home Edition.

The Realme X has a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with no notch or punch hole. It has a motorized 16MP pop-up selfie camera that slides out from the top of the phone. There is a Snapdragon 710 processor powering the phone with 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of non-expandable storage.

The phone also has dual rear cameras (48MP + 5MP), an in-display fingerprint sensor, an audio jack, Type-C port, and a 3765mAh battery with support for VOOC 3.0 (20W) fast charging. It runs ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie.

The ASUS Zenfone 6 is getting a new update, the third since its launch in May. The OTA brings new features and updates the security patch.

The update is rolling out as version v16.1210.1906.156 and is nearly 400MB in size. It brings June 2019’s security patch, enables AR Core and enables 8x zoom in photo mode. Below is the full changelog:

  • Enabled ARCore
  • Improved Video Call Experience
  • Camera:
  1. Enabled 8X zoom in Photo mode.
  2. Removed the time limit for FHD video recording.
  3. Added the function to start/stop video recording with the volume Keys in the Camera app.
  4. Improved Photo Image Quality on Noice Reduction.
  5. Improved Camera Flipping Stability.
  • Optimized Screenshot Stability and solved bug related to screenshot functionality.
  • Enabled TaiwanMobile VoWiFi.
  • Updated Security Patch to June 2019.
  • Updated Translation Strings in Settings.

The update is rolling out in stages and should be available to more users as time goes on.

ASUS has really stepped up its game with the Zenfone 6 or ASUS 6z as it is known in India. It runs a new version of ZenUI that is closer to stock Android and it is also guaranteed to get updated to Android Q and Android R.

The Zenfone 6 has 48MP dual rear cameras that flip forward to double as the front-facing cameras. This allows the phone to have a near bezel-less display without the need for a notch or punch hole. The phone also packs a massive 5000mAh battery, a Snapdragon 855 chipset, an audio jack, and a triple card slot that allows you to use dual nano-SIMs and a MicroSD card at the same time.
