Apple clearly believes a lot in the potential of augmented reality (AR) as it has been pushing developers to create AR applications for its iOS platform for a couple of years now. A new patent filing from the Cupertino giant has surfaced online showing one important area where Apple is working to leverage AR to facilitate users. Ride-hailing apps like Uber have made commutes much easier for frequent city travelers and it is becoming increasingly popular due to its convenience and affordability. However, with more and more people using such services and apps, a big problem is identifying a customer/driver.
Apps like Uber do include GPS pointers to pinpoint the exact position to both the individuals involved, however, it can get confusing at times. For example, crowded locations which are common in big metro cities would make the identification issue much tricky. Apple’s AR solution is simple and effective. It will pinpoint the exact ride through an on-screen indicator. It’s kind of like what you see in games when vehicles have some pointers or highlights over them that indicate they can be used. The system would be usable both by the driver and the customer as well, suggests the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The AR system would feed the customer’s app with the vehicle’s model, and colour and then identifying with it with the rear camera. A similar system would be used to identify the customer such as a photo. It is worth noting that this is merely a patent and it doesn’t mean that a similar feature will be introduced in the future. However, it does show that Apple is interested in that particular application.
It can be fairly said that 2018 was the year of the bezel-less smartphone. Now that we’re at the end of the year, we can definitely say that we’ve seen some breathtaking designs this year to phase out the bezels including the OPPO Find X and the Vivo NEX. However, there’s always some bezel left somewhere on the screen and a true 100 percent screen-to-body ratio has not been achieved still. Interestingly, a Samsung patent filing has popped up online that promises a display that wraps on all edges of a device. At least, that’s what the shoddy images presented by Samsung in the patent appear to show.
The patent published by the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) clearly shows a flexible display. It wraps on the left and right and even top and bottom leaving absolutely no trace of any bezels whatsoever. The low-quality image shows icons placed even on the edges. Unfortunately, the provided images from Samsung are too poor to make up anything and besides that, the filing is merely for a utility patent, not design. Also, this solution seems to create more questions than it answers such as the problem of edge detection, placement of vital sensors and so on. Regardless, Letsgodigital has created concept images based off of these patents and it does look stunning.
At the moment, bezel-less displays do seem to be the future as Samsung is getting ready to reveal its Galaxy S10 devices next year, however, this new patent design looks far from finished. If Samsung is working on an ultimate bezel-less phone, it is likely that we won’t see it anytime soon. For now, we’ll have to stay content with Infinity-O displays and flexible OLED panels.
The battery life is the only specification for which midrange smartphones can be more advantageous than flagships and, besides the more affordable price, it is the only reason why people can prefer them to flagships. The new Asus Zenfone Max (M2) alongside Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Motorola One Power are among the best smartphones in terms of battery life, and this comparison will help you find out which is better to choose for your needs.

Design
Asus Zenfone Max M2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, and Motorola One Power do not represent anything special when it comes to the aesthetics. They have a full metal unibody design which is a classic on midrange devices. But they come with narrow bezels thanks to their notches. The one I would pick is the Motorola One Power because it is splash resistant, but some might prefer Asus Zenfone Max M2 because it has a higher screen-to-body ratio and it is also the thinnest and most lightweight phone.
Display
Average IPS screens in each case, with a classic Full HD+ resolution except for the Asus Zenfone Max M2 which is only HD+. Asus decided to equip this device with a low-resolution panel in order to save more battery. So if you are looking for the best display quality, Motorola One Power is the most suitable device for you because it features the LTPS technology and a Full HD+ resolution, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro sits in the middle.
Specs & Software
Thanks to the Snapdragon 636 chipset, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Motorola One Power provide almost the same level of performance, but I would prefer Motorola One Power because it has Android One and a micro SD dedicated slot allowing to use more than a SIM while you are using the expansion slot too. Asus Zenfone Max M2 has inferior performance because it features the lower-end Snapdragon 632 chipset and just 3 GB of RAM, while its opponents come with up to 6 GB of RAM depending on the market.
Camera
When it comes to photo and videos, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro wins because of its overall camera performance. I like both its dual rear camera and its dual front camera setups, even though the rear one remains a midrange-class setup and it loses a lot of detail in low-light conditions. Motorola One Power is at the second place with a brighter aperture than Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro for the rear camera and a pretty nice front camera. We still did not test Asus Zenfone Max M2, but on the paper it is disappointing.
Battery
As said in the first paragraph, the battery is the strongest point of these smartphones which come with huge lithium units. Motorola One Power wins the battery challenge because of a bigger 5000 mAh battery allowing it to last even more than two days with a stressed use. But its opponents still provide a very long battery life, so you should not worry in any case if you are looking for a phone with an excellent battery life.
Price
I would personally choose Motorola One Power because of its bigger battery, Android One and its faster updates, good performances, and decent cameras. But it costs more than its opponents: about €270/$307, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is easy to find at less than €200/$227 and Asus Zenfone Max M2 costs about €171/$195. Anyways, I would definitely spend up to €100 more for a better phone like Motorola One Power. And I hope Lenovo keeps releasing phones with a great quality price-ratio such as Motorola One Power and Lenovo S5 Pro as they are great rivals for the best-selling Chinese phones.
In April this year, Nubia CEO Ni Fei had claim a 5G test machine will be launched by the end of this year and a commercial 5G device will be announced in 2019. Nubia has officially confirmed that it will be holding a media event in Beijing on Dec. 10. The launch poster carries “dual screen” and “5G” texts which suggests that the 5G edition of the Nubia X smartphone will be announced on the said date.
Probably, the above poster could be hinting the arrival of Nubia X 5G smartphone. The currently available Nubia X phone is fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset. In order to support 5G connectivity, the Nubia X should be fueled by the recently announced Snapdragon 855 SoC that includes X50 LTE modem.
Multiple smartphone manufacturers are gearing up to launch 5G enabled smartphones in the coming year. OnePlus has recently confirmed it will be launching a 5G phone at the beginning of the coming year. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition is slated to go official in the first quarter of 2019. Rumors have it that there will be a 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S10. OPPO and Vivo has also demonstrated the 5G live video calling on 5G editions of Find X and Vivo NEX. These phones are all powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset.
Nubia Red Magic Mars gaming phone that was announced in the previous month features 10 GB of RAM. It is likely that the alleged Nubia X 5G could be also equipped with 10 GB of RAM.
Nubia X is equipped with a 6.26-inch IPS LCD FHD+ display on the front and a 5.5-inch OLED HD+ screen on the rear. The SD845 chipset is assisted by 8 GB / 6 GB of RAM. It comes in 256 GB / 128 GB / 64 GB storage models.
The Nubia X has 16-megapixel + 24-megapixel dual camera on the rear. The smartphone lacks support for microSD card, 3.5mm audio jack and selfie camera. The handset is equipped with dual side-mounted fingerprint scanners. The 3,800mAh battery of the phone supports Quick Charge 4.0. It is available with a starting price of 3,299 Yuan (~$479).
The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition doesn’t launch until December 11 but a new leak has revealed what the phone looks like as well as an exciting new feature. The leak is a set of marketing materials including official renders of the phone and was posted on Twitter by @IshanAgarwal24.
With respect to design, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition doesn’t look any different from the regular OnePlus 6T. You get the same display with a water-drop notch and a bit of bezel at the bottom. Flip it and then you know this is indeed a custom edition.
The back is covered in glass but the inside of the glass appears to have a design that makes it appear as if it is made of kevlar. There is also an orange paint job that begins at the bottom but fades off when it gets to the sides.
EXCLUSIVE LEAK! Here is your first look at the Official Renders of the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Speed Orange variant with 10GB+256GB Storage and super fast new 'Warp Charge' which will provide you a day's power in 20 minutes! Do you like the phone?#SaluteToSpeed#WarpChargepic.twitter.com/8JdoNb6SWG
The arrangement of the dual rear cameras hasn’t changed so also is the position of the OnePlus logo but there is now a McLaren logo at the bottom of the phone. The phone still doesn’t have an audio jack
Not really excited about the design? Then you will be excited about its internals.

The OnePlus 6T will come with 10GB of RAM! A first for a OnePlus phone. It will also be paired with 256GB of storage. However, the biggest addition is that it will come with a faster charging technology than that of the OnePlus 6T.
OnePlus is calling it Warp Charge 30 and it will provide a day’s power in 20 minutes – 10 minutes faster than Dash Charge. So if Dash Charge gives you up to 60% in 30 minutes, Warp Charge 30 lets you reach that number in just 20 minutes. We presume that just like Dash Charge, Warp Charge 30 will only work with the included charger and cable.

Just like yesterday, it is two years already since HMD Global Oy took us on a journey with the revival of the Nokia brand which elicited lots of nostalgia among fans. Since the introduction of the Nokia 150 and 150 Dual feature phone in December 2016, the Finnish company went on to announce the Nokia 6 in January 2017 as its first Android smartphone and the reception was outstanding. The company even played more on the feelings of hardcore Nokia fans when it reintroduced the Nokia 3310 with a refined, yet durable design. The catalogue of sleek Nokia phone has catapulted the company to rank among the top 5 brands across Europe.
A few days back, the Nokia 8.1 was unveiled in an event in Dubai and during the event, the company reeled out some of its achievements in the last two years. The major achievement is no doubt the disclosure that the company has sold a whopping 70 million phones within this period. The figure is a compendium of both smartphones and feature phones. The breakdown of this total shipping estimates shows HMD Global took a wise decision to revive the brand. An estimated 56 million units of the Nokia phones were reportedly sold to men over the age of 35 who previously knew about the Nokia brand. In addition, HMD confirmed that its cheaper devices are its main source of income and admitted that its flagship offerings significantly underperformed.
HMD also disclosed that the Nokia 6.1 currently rank as the best-selling “new” phone on a global scale, although this claim was most likely made in reference to the phone’s pricing segment and the markets it’s currently sold in. Additionally, the company noted that both the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 3.1 proved extremely popular too. The success of the Nokia 7 Plus obviously led to the launch of Nokia 8.1 with some shared features. In terms of its main focus moving forward, the company hopes to continue strengthening its position in the €300 to €400 segment – hence the release of the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 8.1 recently – and also plans on addressing younger customers with new marketing campaigns in different segments such as the e-sports area.
AnTuTu has released the top 10 list of most popular Android smartphones in the month of November for China. The list has been compiled on the basis of popularity of Android phones between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30 in China.
The first place on the list is held by Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition that comes with a transparent rear. It has a positive rating of 97 percent. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Meizu 16th are tied on the second position with a positive rating of 96 percent.
Compared to the last month’s standings, the list has remained almost unchanged. The only new entry is the older Galaxy S8+ that has surfaced in the list on the tenth place as the replacement for the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S. It will take some more time for newer phone such as OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 and Nubia X to make it the list of popular smartphones in China.
In related news, the AnTuTu’s best performance list for the month of November is now led by Kirin 980 chipset powered smartphones such as Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 X and Mate 20 Pro. The Honor Magic 2 that is placed on the fourth position is also powered by Kirin 980.
The Xiaomi Black Shark Helo phone with Snapdragon 845 and 10 GB of RAM is slotted on the fifth position. The OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Black Shark gaming phone, Nubia X, OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8 that are all driven by Snapdragon 845 SoC have made it to AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones for November.
Rumors that had surfaced earlier this year had claimed that Vivo will be launching a smartphone with 10 GB of RAM before the end of the year. Recent reports have revealed that the Vivo NEX 2 flagship phone that is scheduled to go official on Dec. 12 will be featuring 10 GB of RAM. Today, a Vivo smartphone with model number V1821A has surfaced on Geekbench. It seems to be the Vivo NEX 2 dual screen smartphone that is scheduled to go official next week.
The Vivo NEX 2 (V1821A) Geekbench listing has revealed that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 which also powered the original Vivo NEX phone. The SoC will be supported by 10 GB of RAM. The smartphone is loaded with Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core test, the handset has recorded a score of 2220 and it has scored 8467.
The specifications of the Vivo NEX 2 have surfaced in bits and pieces. The smartphone has been approved by 3C authority in China through which it has ben confirmed that it will be enabled with support for 22.5W rapid charging technology. It will be featuring a massive display of 6.5 inches on the front. The backside of the phone is said to be fitted with a 5.5-inch display. It is the second dual screen smartphone in the recent times after the Nubia X phone that was announced in October. The Vivo NEX 2 is very likely to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Lunar Ring RGB-lit for notifications is present on the rear side of the phone. The rear-facing cameras can be used for shooting better selfies. The rear screen can function as a viewfinder while shooting selfies. Hence, there is no selfie camera on the frontside of the phone. It is speculated that the third camera sensor could be a Time of Flight (ToF) 3D stereo camera for accurately mapping objects in 3D.
Vivo is gearing up to launch its upcoming experimental smartphone — Vivo NEX 2, which seems like a successor of the Vivo NEX launched earlier this year featuring an elevating front-facing camera.
Earlier, it was reported that the Chinese company could launch the Vivo NEX 2 smartphone on 11th December. Now, the company has finally revealed that the phone will be launched in China on 12th December.
The Vivo NEX 2 will be featuring dual displays. It will miss out on the elevating front-facing camera as the triple rear camera setup will also act as a front-facing camera, thanks to a secondary display on the back side. The official renders of the smartphone released by the Chinese company also confirms this design.
However, do note that Vivo won’t be the first smartphone manufacturer to feature dual displays and rear camera setup also doubling as front-facing camera sensors as ZTE has already launched Nubia X with such design. But it will be interesting to see Vivo’s take on this type of design.
Thanks to the lack of camera sensors on the front side of the smartphone, the device will come with a high screen-to-body ratio and ultra-thin bezels surrounding the display. On the back side, below the secondary screen, there’s a Vivo branding logo.
There’s an illuminated RGB Lunar Ring at the topside of the rear screen. Half portion of the Lunar Ring is on the upper bezel of the rear screen while the other half is placed under the display. Rumours suggests that the Lunar Ring will glow when the phone receives any notifications. It may also function as additional LED flash for the camera.
While the company has not yet revealed the phone’s specifications, the phone has passed through certifications, which reveal that the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa-core flagship chipset and will have up to 10GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
It is speculated that the front side display could be of 6.59-inch whereas the rear display could be 5.5-inch. The phone is expected to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, which will make it the first smartphone with dual display to have an under-display fingerprint scanner.
As for the software, the Vivo NEX 2 is claimed to offer a new user experience. Vivo has developed a new version of its mobile operating system based on Android that has been tailored for dual-screen phones. It is also said to come with support for several AI-based features.
BBK subsidiary Vivo is expected to release a second-generation model of the innovative Vivo NEX flagship on December 11. There have been several teasers and leaked details giving us an idea of what to expect on the Vivo NEX 2 as it would be called. Vivo yesterday released a teaser video on its official Weibo account. The teaser categorically hints at the model launching with six new innovative technology.
Although the teaser video comes in Chinese, we already have an idea of the new features that would be onboard the device. One of them is a triple rear camera setup just like the Huawei P20 Pro. The device is also likely to have a liquid cooling system, Artificial Intelligence, 3D beauty, star-ring flash.
Tin addition, the Vivo NEX 2 is expected to have a rear-facing display which serves as a viewfinder while shooting selfie images. Since there are no front-facing camera sensors, we are expecting a higher screen-to-body ratio with extremely narrow bezels. The rear camera is expected to be a 5.5-inch screen and the device will have a gradient color body. We expect Vivo to officially announce the NEX 2 on December 11 when more details of the model will be released. You can check out the video from here.
Samsung is reportedly working to launch an all-new M-series for budget and mid-range smartphones in the Indian market. As per the reports, the South Korean giant will launch two phones under its M-series, which could possibly be named Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20.
The company has reportedly started mass production of both the smartphones in India, suggesting that the official launch of the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 is imminent. Now, the latest report suggests that the smartphones will be priced aggressively to win the highly-competitive budget smartphone segment in India.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy M10 could be priced under Rs. 10,000 (approximately $142) while the Samsung Galaxy M20 could be priced around Rs. 15,000, which roughly converts to $213. Considering the aggressive pricing, it won’t be surprising if Samsung keeps the M-series as an online-only smartphone series.
With Chinese smartphone manufacturers dominating the Indian smartphone market in the budget and mid-range category, Samsung is feeling the pressure to price its smartphones more aggressively. Most of the Chinese phones are priced very aggressively and offers great value-for-money.
Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy M10 will be a budget offering that will be powered by the company’s in-house Exynos 7870 octa-core processor. It is expected to pack 3GB RAM and two options for internal storage — 16GB and 32GB. As for the software, the phone will be running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s custom interface.
On the other hand, the Galaxy M20 variant is rumored to be powered by the Samsung’s own Exynos 7885 upper mid-range processor, coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The device is said to feature a Full-HD+ screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with an unknown screen size, and just like M10, this one too will run Android Oreo out-of-the-box.
While the company has not revealed when the upcoming M-series smartphones will launch in India, we are expecting the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 to go official in early 2019.

It is available in three different colors of Meteorite Black, Flame Red and camouflage edition. All the color variants are available with RGB LED strip on the rear along with impressive decals. Currently, its 6/8GB RAM variants are available, while 10 GB RAM will be made available later this month.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphone was launched alongside the Xperia XZ2 phone in February last year. However, the Japanese tech company had skipped the Compact version for the Xperia XZ3 that was unveiled at IFA 2018 tech expo in September last year. Reliable tipster @OnLeaks has collaborated to share CAD renders of the Xperia XZ4 Compact. It is likely that Sony may announce the Xperia XZ4 Compact alongside the Xperia XZ4 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019.
The Sony Xperia XZ4 Compact renders leak reveal that it measures 139.9 x 66.5 x 9.3mm. In comparison, the currently available Xperia XZ2 Compact is a thicker device since it measures 12.1mm.
The Xperia XZ4 Compact is fitted with a 5-inch screen with the really thick upper and lower bezels. The display of the smartphone offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 and it is very likely to support full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The side bezels are comparatively slim. The Sony brand name can be seen on the bottom bezel of the smartphone. The smartphone is also equipped with dual front-firing speakers.
The back panel of the Xperia XZ4 Compact seems to be made out of glass. There is a single camera along with LED flash at the top-left corner of the rear shell. The rest of the back panel is barren. The XZ4 Compact features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. For audiophiles, it features a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Xperia XZ4 Compact is expected to be packed with flagship specifications. Hence, there is a possibility that it could be featuring the 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset and at least 4 GB of RAM. It will come preloaded with Android 9 Pie OS. The other specifications of the smartphone are yet to be leaked.

The Vivo NEX 2 dual screen smartphone is all set to go official on Dec. 12. The Chinese manufacturer has shared multiple renders of the smartphone to reveal its marvelous dual screen design.
The renders reveal that the Vivo NEX 2 dual screen phone will be arriving two color choices of Blue and Red. The smartphone features two screens, one on the front and the other on the rear. It is speculated that the size of the front screen could be 6.59 inches whereas the rear display could be of 5.5 inches. The front display is very likely to feature an in-screen fingerprint reader.
Like the original Vivo NEX, the Vivo NEX 2 does not feature a front camera. The ultra-thin bezels around the display indicates that it will be offering a very impressive screen-to-body ratio. The original Vivo NEX smartphone featured a pop-up selfie shooter. However, the NEX 2 may not feature a pop-up selfie camera. Instead, the rear-mounted cameras could be used for capturing topnotch quality selfies with the secondary screen acting as the viewfinder.

Below the secondary screen is the Vivo logo. There is an illuminated RGB Lunar Ring at the topside of the rear screen. Half portion of the Lunar Ring is on the upper bezel of ther rear screen while its other half is placed under the display. The Lunar Ring is rumored to glow when the phone receives notifications. It may also function as additional LED flash. The bezel about the secondary features an LED flash and triple camera sensors. The third sensor could be a 3D ToF lens. There seems to be a laser autofocus module on the right side of the third sensor. The upper edge of the back panel seems to be equipped with an additional earpiece.
The right edge of the Vivo NEX 2 has volume rocker and a power key. There seems to be another button on its left edge. A 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the upper edge of the NEX 2. There is a USB-C port and a speaker grille on the bottom edge of the smartphone.
