Through a teaser that was released yesterday, Huawei had confirmed that it would be launching a new smartphone in the coming month. The teaser image of the phone suggested that it may sport an in-screen camera hole. Multiple tipsters from China are of the view that the company will be launching the Huawei Nova 4 with in-screen camera hole design in December. A mysterious Huawei smartphone has been spotted in the hands of a person traveling in a bus. Since the phone features a hole in the display, it is speculated that it could be the upcoming Nova 4 smartphone.
Since the alleged Huawei Nova 4 is covered in a protective cover, it’s exact design cannot be clearly seen. Probably, the screen of the phone is surrounded by slim bezels. It may sport a slightly thick sized chin. It is equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack. The specs of the phone are not known yet. It is speculated to be field by Kirin 980 chipset.
During the launch event of Galaxy A9s and Galaxy A6s smartphones in China, Samsung had hinted that the forthcoming Galaxy A8s phone would be arriving with new kind of display design. Recent reports have revealed that it will be sporting Infinity-O notch-less display featuring a small hole at the upper left corner of the display.
Industry expert and Twitter user @IceUniverse has claimed that Huawei will release the world’s first smartphone with in-screen camera hole before Samsung introduces the Galaxy A8s that is expected to get unveiled in December. A recent report has claimed that Huawei may announce or release a foldable phone before Samsung introduces its foldable smartphone.
Samsung is the world’s number one phone brand, but its smartphone business has been so dismal in China that it has been struggling to enter in the list of top ten brands. The South Korean firm is now working on resurrecting its smartphone brands in China. However, with Huawei competing with Samsung fiercely in its home market, the South Korean company may find it difficult to gain lost ground.

Nokia 9 with its Penta camera setup has been making the rounds in the rumour mills for a while now. The renders of the device have equally been spotted online severally. Interestingly, the suppose Nokia 9 case has now been listed on Amazon UK by case maker UniqueMe.
While this isn’t the first case of the device that is making the round, it happens to be the first to appear in a traceable store since the source of the first online store listing was unknown. The case is described as a TPU case with ultra-thin and lightweight design that offers maximum protection. It equally has more than five openings meant to accommodate the 5 camera sensors and an LED flash. The case notably doesn’t have an opening for a rear fingerprint sensor and that could be attributed to the likely presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor as rumoured. The bottom end seems to have an opening for a USB type-C port which is expected anyway. We can’t say for sure if there will be a 3.5mm audio jack at the other end but previous renders suggest the absence of one.
The Amazon listing schedules the case to be in stock on December 1 but it is unlikely that the phone will be launched that soon. However, Nokia may spring up a surprise by launching the model before the year runs out. For now, the Nokia 9 release date is still a mystery.

The year is coming to an end and while some manufacturers still have launches planned for the remaining weeks, some are already looking forward to the next year. We believe Xiaomi belongs to the latter category.
Two unknown Xiaomi devices have received certifications at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and their model numbers reveal they are scheduled to arrive next year. The phones are the Xiaomi M19101F9T and the M19101F9E.
All the phones Xiaomi released this year all have their model numbers beginning with M18. Seeing as these two new devices have their model numbers beginning with M19, one can tell that they are scheduled to launch in 2019. However, we have no idea which models they are but since only the last alphabet is different, they are probably network variants of the same model.
There are rumors that they might be variants of the Mi 9 series, not necessarily the main flagships since the Snapdragon 8150 hasn’t been officially released yet, but maybe less powerful versions.
Huawei releases so many midrange phones in a year that it is impossible to remember how much Huawei devices hit the market, especially when the company decides to change the names of its handsets depending on the country. And most of the times there are not even huge differences between each of them. That is why it is very hard to choose a phone among budget-friendly devices from Huawei. Today, we are here to compare the new Honor 10 Lite with the recent Huawei P Smart+, also known as Huawei Nova 3i in China, and Honor 8X (or Honor View 10 Lite in Europe).

Design
Huawei midrange phones always have an attractive design and each of these three devices is very beautiful. The main evolutions of this year in terms of design were gradient color variants and the dimensions of the notch, which made mid-rangers even more impressive when it comes to the aesthetics. I would personally pick Honor 10 Lite because it is available in two gradient colors (unlike Honor 8X) and it has a smaller notch than Huawei P Smart+.
Display
The quality of displays of each of these phones is very similar to each other. The only noticeable difference between them is the display size. Honor 8X is definitely more interesting because it has the bigger display and just a limited amount of devices reach its display diagonal. That is why I would choose its display.
Specs & Software
The hardware components of these devices, as well as the software, are exactly the same, except for three differences. The first two ones are the absence of the most powerful memory configuration (6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage) for the Huawei P Smart+ and the presence of a micro SD dedicated slot on the Honor 8X only. Regarding the software, Honor 10 Lite comes with EMUI 9 based on Android Pie out of the box and GPU Turbo 2.0 technology, while the other twos are still based on Android Oreo. So, Honor 10 Lite is the best alternative.
Camera
If you are looking for the best rear camera department, Honor 8X has the best one with a 20 MP primary wide angle lens, a 2 MP depth sensor and a bright f/1.8 aperture. Honor 10 Lite has a better front camera than Honor 8X, but the dual front camera of Huawei P Smart+ is the best one as it can capture depth info better.
Battery
Given that it is the biggest handset, inside the Honor 8X there is also more space for a big battery. Indeed it has a 3750 mAh unit that is able to last consistently more than Honor 10 Lite and Huawei P Smart+.
Price
Honor 10 Lite just hitten the Chinese market with a €210 price tag, but we still do not know how much it will cost in Europe. Honor 8X and Huawei P Smart+ can be found at about €250. Given the marginal differences between price and specs of these devices, I would choose Honor 8X because of its bigger display, bigger battery, and its micro SD dedicated slot.
Last year, Tencent started implementing a policy which saw 12-year-olds and under getting only one hour per day of gameplay time, restricted to before 9 pm. Older kids are only be allowed to play for two hours a day. The identification process is powered by real name verification using China’s public security database. The company has announced that it has completed the nationwide rollout of the real name verification of one of its most popular game Honour of Kings which is also known as Arena of Valor.
According to a message on WeChat, the rollout was completed 12 days earlier than scheduled. The company also revealed that with the full implementation of this safety check, the playtime of players aged 12 years or younger fell by 46% and the playtime of older teens above 12 years old dropped 24%. The company commenced the implementation of real-name registration on Honour of Kings two months back as part of efforts to curb China’s growing game addiction, especially among teens and kids.
China has been grappling with a monumental rise in cases of gaming addiction especially among teenagers in the country with an estimated 24 million kids affected. The government also blames the country’s widespread myopia on the playing of video games. As a result, several measures are being taken to stem the tide. One of such measures is what Tencent is the real-name recognition. Another measure which is still being worked on is facial recognition. The company has started the second round of testing of facial recognition-aided ID checks. It said it would soon expand the scale of testing as well as implementation, meaning that more users will be requested to verify their identities through facial recognition.
In case you don’t know, Tencent Holdings is the world’s top-grossing games publisher. Its most popular game is King of Glory, with over 50m daily players in China. The game has even been heavily linked to the epidemic rise of video game addiction in the country. Earlier this month, Tencent disclosed that there are plans to roll out the real-name verification system to its entire game line-up by 2019. All these measures have had a negative impact on the company’s revenue and even that of the industry.
Report emerging from Samsung‘s home country, South Korea indicate that the tech giant has commenced mass production of Infinity-O displays that is rumoured to feature on next year’s Galaxy S10 for the first time. The infinity-O displays are OLED screens which would have a hole at the front that would house the selfie camera.
According to the report by ETNews, Samsung has upgraded its existing manufacturing facilities to accommodate the production of the new displays. Although Samsung is yet to confirm if the display panel will be used on the Galaxy S10, the timing of the factory upgrade suggests the display could be ready for the S10 that is expected to be announced around March next year.
Samsung’s Infinity-O display is expected to herald a new vista in full-screen phone designs. The design will allow Samsung to increase the screen-to-body ratio of its phone without the notch or using a slider design. It seems to look similar t the water drop notch but this time, it is not a notch, rather it is an O-shaped opening for the camera on the display. It is just possible that the device will only house a single camera at the front but there are rumours the Galaxy S10 will pack a dual selfie setup. This throws up the possibility of the Infinity-O screen being used on the model with a single front camera.

While MediaTek’s recent new mobile chipsets – the Helio P70, Helio P60 – were received well in the mobile industry, current data paints a not so rosy picture of the previous months for the chip maker. As per studies, MediaTek revenues in October actually fell by 9.8 percent as compared to September, a decrease of 0.84 percent Y-o-Y. Furthermore, most of 2018, while not being a complete flop, also hasn’t earned the company anymore. In fact, revenue was down by a very slight 0.4 percent.
MediaTek’s projection this year was to achieve a targeted 10 percent increase in shipments. However, even with a better response to the MediaTek Helio P70 from brands like Xiaomi and OPPO, the company’s order book still lies at 1 to 110 million chips which is the same as the last quarter of 2018. The current situation was not helped by the fact that smartphone shipments shrank in the same quarter. It is even compounded by the risk that some of their orders might get canceled next year.
On the other hand, Qualcomm’s presence in the mid-range chipset category was augmented with the announcement of the new Snapdragon 7xx series this year which was in competition with the Helio P70. Furthermore, MediaTek’s decision to withdraw from the high-end chip segment has also left the arena open for Qualcomm. This factor will, inevitably, come into play, even more, when 5G is introduced as expectations are that the US-based chip manufacturer will be the major supplier even as MediaTek will start mass-producing its own Helio M70 SoC by next month.

The Mi 8 SE is one of the numerous Mi 8 phones released by Xiaomi this year. It is an upper mid-range phone with a Snapdragon 710 processor and a notched display.
When it launched, it ran MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and even after receiving the MIUI 10 update, its Android version didn’t change. Xiaomi is still gradually rolling out Android Pie to its phones and the Mi 8 SE is scheduled to get a beta version this quarter.
However, Android 9.0 Pie may not be the last major OS update for the phone as a version of the Mi 8 SE running Android Q has been seen on Geekbench.
This is definitely a very early test device as Android Q will not get a beta version until Q2 next year after it must have been unveiled at Google I/O 2019. Nevertheless, it is pretty exciting to know that the Mi 8 SE is in line to get the next version of Android.
One of the confirmed features we know Android Q will bring is an upgraded split-screen multitasking feature where both apps running in split-screen are active instead of one being inactive.
Some publications already refer to it as the Lenovo P20 Pro because of its similar design to the Huawei P20 Pro which also has the same rear design. However, Lenovo’s VP, Chang Cheng, has revealed that the phone is actually the Lenovo Z5s and not the Lenovo P20 Pro.
The Lenovo Z5s not only has triple rear cameras but also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 6.3-inch screen with a water-drop notch and a 3210mAh battery. Seeing as the Lenovo Z5 Pro isn’t a flagship, there is a possibility the Z5s will also not be a flagship but an upper mid-range phone.
