OPPO became the first Chinese smartphone manufacturer to enter Australia. This happened last month when OPPO announced 4 handsets for the Australian market.
And now when OPPO is trying to be familiar with the Australian smartphone market, it started its advertisement campaign to gain interest and to reach masses. This was clear from this awesome picture which has been captured by the OPPO Find 7. With a 13 megapixel camera and great camera quality, OPPO is confident about their Find 7 in Australia.
Apart from China, OPPO is also spending a large amount of money for its branding in India where it has sponsored a popular TV show on a good Indian TV channel and the Champions Cricket Tournament.
Let’s see if OPPO gets a good response to these advertisement strategies in India and Australia.
Xiaomi is a top contender in smartphone market, having a vision of producing high quality phones at low cost, maintaining low margins are their plus. This lad from China is world’s fifth largest smartphone purveyor. In China it accounts a 14 percent share of the smartphone shipments. Xiaomi’s ultra affordable mid ranger Redmi 1S, is now world’s 4th best-selling smartphone.
According to new research from Strategy Analytics Country Share Tracker (CST), in Q2 2014, the Redmi 1S was, by volume, more popular than most of the other smartphones in the world. Being just 4 years old Xiaomi has maintained a standard which took its phone to this level. In India alone they are selling about 40,000 units per week through flash sales which lasts only for few seconds.
A certificate for the Oppo R5 has just appeared on the Indonesian Postel website, insinuating forthcoming release of the company.
Postel is the telecommunications regulator in Indonesia, similar to the FCC in the United States and TENAA in China. May be the company may launch this phone along with much hyped N3 which is getting leaked now and then suggesting near release of the product.
The listing didn’t confirm anything more except for the LTE radio and the R8106 model designation. Other details are unknown.
Elephone has a number of smartphones in its pipeline in the second half of 2014 and the Elephone G5 is the one of the first to start shipping in the market.
Given that the device is going to be available by the end of this month, we decided to take a look at this handset.
DESIGN
You won’t take much time to realize that the device is an exact clone of the OnePlus One. That’s not really a bad thing because the devices looks great. People really loved the design and the texture of the OnePlus One, so naturally you’ll love this device too. It comes with the rear camera and flash enclosed in a rectangular box and the logo below it. This is exactly like the OPO, with the difference being the Elephone logo instead of the +1.
In short, we really liked the design and the overall built of the phone.
DISPLAY
Like the OPO, Elephone G5 too comes with a 5.5 inch display but the resolution is only HD. But even with the 1280 x 720p display, you get a pixel density count of 267PPI which is not that bad. So, images and videos should looks good on the IPS panel.
HARDWARE
Elephone G5 comes with a Mediatek MT6582 1.3Ghz Quad Core processor which is pretty much what you see in most mid range Chinese smartphones these days. There’s 1GB RAM, Mali 400 GPU and 8GB ROM with expandable memory up to 64GB via MicroSD card.
CAMERA
On the back, you get a 13MP camera with LED flash and features such as Auto Focus, Panorama, Face Beauty, Smile Shot, Best Shot, HDR and EV Bracket Shot.
On the front, there’s a 5MP sensor which should be enough for your day to day selfies.
CONNECTIVITY AND BATTERY
Elelphone E5 comes with connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS and sensors like gravity, distance, gesture, holzer and light. The included battery is of 3020 mAh which should be enough for your daily usage.
SOFTWARE
The device runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS and you also get the option of having MIUI on it. There are a lot of special software features on G5 like double tap to wake, open apps directly even when the screen is off etc. You can customize the letters and the apps for the gesture but standard gesture controls include drawing an O on the screen to open up the camera, V for torch and W for message.
In short, the device comes a lot of features with which you can play around. Elephone G5 just costs $129.99 which means its a great buy for anyone who’s looking for a mid range smartphone.
G5 comes in Black, White and Pink colors and will start shipping from September 25th. The White version of the device is currently available in stock at Giztop, so head over to the website to buy one for yourself.
Things are really getting heated in the affordable flagship market as more and more Chinese companies are releasing high end gadgets at a very affordable price.
First it was Xiaomi Mi4, then came Meizu MX4 and now comes Elephone P4000. While this company may not be as famous as the other two, it sure is trying hard to get a portion of the market share as soon as possible. The Hong Kong based company already released three new cheap devices a few days back and now, its all set to launch its flagship device for the year, the Elephone P4000.
More often than not, Elephone takes design cues for its phones from successful flagships, and this time around, the P4000 takes inspiration from Xiaomi’s recently unveiled Mi4.
As you can see in the pictures, it looks a lot like Mi4, which is not really a bad thing given that we liked and praised Xiaomi’s design. The P4000 replicates the metal chassis on Xiaomi’s flagship and the overall design is as refined as well built as the Mi4.
The device will be powered by a Mediatek MT6592 Octa Core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. There’s a 5inch 720p display up front with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. We still don’t know whether there’s a MicroSD card slot on the device, but we sure hope so.
On the back, there’s a 13MP camera while on the front there’s an 8MP shooter. You get 3,150 mAh battery onboard, which is frankly quite large and enough for an entire day’s usage.
Overall Elephone P4000 looks like a great flagship and if the company manages to price it competitively, then we may have a winner here.
Doogee managed to keep its Turbo2 DG900 smartphone under wraps for quite some time. But the device will finally be available to pre-order starting this Monday.
Doogee DG900 is an interesting device. The design is quite different than other Doogee smartphones and the specs have improved to a great extent than its predecessors.
DG900 sports a sharp rectangular body with curved sides which sets it apart from other flagships in the market. It seems like the company has finally put some thought into the design as the rear shell will feature a soft texture much like the baby skin texture found on the OnePlus One. There are also some interesting lines alongside the camera which stands apart from the rest of the body.
On the front, there’s a 5 inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This means the display will be extremely sharp at 440 PPI and images and videos will look bright and clear. Inside, you get a 1.7 GHz Octa Core MTK6592 processor along with 2GB RAM (yes, we finally have a 2GB RAM phone from Doogee). There’s 16GB storage memory on board which can be further expanded up to 64GB via a MicroSD card.
The device supports dual sim, Wi-Fi, 3G (unfortunately no LTE) and even Mediatek’s HotKnot feature which has applications similar to NFC. You also get some special software features like Gesture recognition, tap to wake up etc.
On the back, there’s a 13MP camera along with LED flash. Coming to the front, you get an 8MP 88 degrees wide angle camera perfect for group selfies.
While the DG900 comes with a 2,500 mAh battery, we feel its a bit small as compared to other flagships like Meizu MX4 or Xiaomi Mi4. Even the upcoming Elephone P4000 comes with a 3150 battery pack which means you may not get as much talk time as these smartphones.
Doogee usually prices its phones competitively, and this device too is no exception. The device starts selling from GearBest starting this Monday for an amazing price of $222.13. This is much cheaper than other competitors in the market, hence make sure you check out the new DG900 before buying a flagship phone for yourself.
Tuesday? and it’s Xiaomi day this is the scenario currently in India. As Xiaomi entered Indian sub-continent it made a huge impact and phones got sold like hot cakes. MI3 success bought Redmi 1S and this week sale has something to note and on September 23(sale day) it is not 40,000 units it will be 60,000 units that is going online.
In order to get license to buy the phone you need to register before 22nd mid-night and you are allowed to buy on 23rd through e-retailer flipkart. Sale begins at 2:00 PM IST.
This phone is a quite good bet at $100 sub (5,999 INR).
Today, Qualcomm formally launched the Snapdragon 810 processor which will be shipped to manufacturers early next year. Phones that will use the chipset should appear around the same time.
Industry insider Bo Jiutang revealed that many Chinese cellphone companies are competing to release the first phone to use the Snapdragon 810. Many big time flagship phones are expected to use it such as the OPPO Find 9, Vivo Xplay 5, Mi 5, etc. The LeTV phone and Smartisan T2 may also use this.
The Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) uses 20nm architecture and is composed of four Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. It also uses the Adreno 430 and supports screen resolutions as high as 4K. It also supports 30fps 4K videos and 120fps 1080p videos as well as h.625 videos.
The Snapdragon 810 also has a 14bit dual-ISP (up to 1.2Gps/s) and supports 640bit dual-channel LPDDR4-1600 RAM. Memory bandwidth can be increased to 25.6GB/s.
How does the recently-released Meizu MX4 fare against the IUNI U3? Here is a comparison of both phones.
Both phones have detachable rear covers. In the case of the MX4, the switch to take off the rear cover is located at the bottom right side, while the IUNI U3’s is at the Micro USB port which, in addition to opening the rear case, does not affect the phone’s appearance. It basically kills two birds with one stone.
As for a screen comparison, the U3 sports a 5.5-inch Sharp second generation 2K LTPS screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution (which is covered by a 2.5D curved glass proctector) and 538ppi. The MX4, on the other hand, also sports a 5.5-inch screen but it has a 1920 x 1152 resolution with 418ppi.
The MX4’s operating system is Meizu’s own Flyme OS, specifically, the Android 4.4.2-based Flyme 4.0 beta version. IUNI’s OS is the Android 4.4.4-based IUNI OS. Both have flattened, clean, and simple interfaces. Although both were launch at different times, they appear to be around the same level.
It has been that the PIPO H3 will be the first 4G tablet to use a processor from MTK. This tablet uses the 1.7Ghz MTK6592 octa-core chipset. Since it supports 4G internet, then, this tablet must use a combination of the MT6592 and MT6290 processors.
Some of the H3’s specifications were also revealed as well. It sports a 10.1-inch screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution. Its main camera is also pretty powerful as PIPO plans to put a 13mp camera on the back.
This rendering of the H3 shows that it has a similar design to the T9. The back still follows a three-level design, but the H3 does not have round ends. There is also a detachable panel on the left side of the main camera. From the tabs on the pan, it looks like the H3 may support dual-SIM cards and memory cards.
Today has been a big day for Xiaolajiao Mobile. Besides launching the Xiaolajiao 5 Pro 4G cellphone, the Xiaolaojiao 4G mini has also entered the market. This phone is the company’s third 4G cellphone.
The Xiaolajiao 4G mini uses the 1.3Ghz MT6582 quad-core processor and supports China Mobile 4G (TD-LTE), TD-SCDMA, and GSM networks. It has 1G RAM and 8G ROM. It also sports a 4mp/8mp dual-camera and is powered by a 1800mAh battery. Its OS is the Kitkat and has an OTG feature.
This phone also comes with a “Lajiao button,” a small toy that looks like an earphone. When connected to the phone’s earphone port, it can prevent dust from coming and can let the user do things like turning on the camera with just one or two clicks. It is available in white, black, yellow, and many other colors.
The Xiaolajiao 4G mini is available by Wechat for 999 RMB.
This afternoon, Xiaolajiao Mobile introduced an upgraded version of its Xiaolajiao 5 phone called the Xiaolajiao 5 Pro. This version has stronger hardware and supports China Mobile 4G. It will go on sale on the 23rd.
The China Mobile Pro version certainly has higher specifications than the Xiaolajiao 5 China Unicom version. The core improvement in the Pro version is that the RAM and ROM have increased from 1G and 8G, respectively, to 2G and 16G.
Upgrades were also made on the camera specs. Its front camera has 8mp and an 88 degree wide angle as well as upgrades to its beauty enhancement feature. Its main camera has 20mp but Xiaolajiao has not released an official model number. It just shows that it is a BSI camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5p lens.
The rest of the phone’s specs have not changed. It still uses the 1.4GHz MT6592M octa-core chipset which supports TD-LTE China Mobile 4G networks, TD-SCDMA, and GSM. It also has a 2700mAh battery and its OS is the Android 4.42-based Lewa OS. It also sports a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 display screen. Its measurements are 156 x 77 x 8.3mm.
The Xiaolajiao Pro 5 goes on sale on September 23 at 10 AM. Its retail price should be 1999 RMB (325.50 USD).
In recent years, music and videos have been the primary focus of Vivo in making their products. They have already become known for the excellent sound quality of their products. One of their latest devices is the newest member of the X series called the Vivo X5L. This phone boasts HiFi audio as its selling point. Karaoke enthusiasts should especially be thrilled with this as it aspires to be the King of Karaoke.
The Vivo X5L uses a professional Yamaha chip that is integrated with a HiFi chip. This phone has more assorted chips than then regular smartphone despite having a small motherboard and thin body.
It has been reported that the 799 RMB Honor Tablet Wi-Fi version will see a global release next week on the 23rd at 10:08 AM.
The Honor Tablet was first launched on August 24. Costing almost a thousand RMB and having powerful entertainment specs, it immediately became success in the thousand RMB tablet market. There is a 3G version which was first released on September 2, Wi-FI enhanced version (999 RMB/162.74 USD), and a Wi-Fi standard version which, as said earlier, will enter the market on September 23.
Huawei first announced the news yesterday on the Honor series official Weibo account saying that the Honor Tablet will be “fun and affordable.” It also said that it has an 8-inch 16:10 screen, thin body, and 4800mAh battery.
The Coolpad Y1 sports a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 which is not much but should do. It also uses the Snapdragon 410 processor which is also not bad. Users should have no problem using this phone for many everyday tasks.
The Coolpad Y1 is designed like most of Coolpad’s phones. The phone’s 5mp front camera is very useful for taking selfies. It also has a built-in beauty enhancement feature. As a result, taking selfies should be absolutely no problem. This should not be surprising as Coolpad has been recently releasing smartphones that work well with taking selfie shots.
The buttons at the bottom of the phone are designed just like Coolpad’s other phones. The HOME and BACK buttons are laid from left to right. There are no lights behind the buttons, making it hard for people to use the phone at night. When you press the buttons, the phone vibrates. This helps users avoid situations where they accidentally press the buttons.
The Y1 is completely white front and back. The back of the phone does not have a lot of extra features. It is very clean and simple. The phone’s 13mp back camera is located at the top part of the phone, and beside it is an LED light which automatically flashes when taking photos in dark places.
The Coolpad Y1 is NFC-supported. There is also a speaker at the bottom part of the back. Above is a China Telecom 4G logo.
Located at the bottom of the phone are a data port and a 3.5mm earphone jack. The phone’s body is very neat and clean. There are also the metal frames. Overall, this phone looks more fashionable than other devices in the thousand-plus price range.
This phone supports the China Telecom 4G network but does not support single-SIM. It also supports memory cards (up to 32GB at most).
The Coolpad Y1 also has a 2500mAh detachable battery that can last for about a day and a half whether you are making calls, playing games, or watching videos on your phone. Because this phone sports a 5.5-inch screen, it has a bigger body making it hard for the owner to use the phone with one hand. Nevertheless, the screen has great quality.
The Cool UI 5.5 OS is easy to use
The Coolpad Y1’s operating system is the Cool UI 5.5 which is based on the Android 4.4.4. It has a neater and simpler interface with many functions that should be good for everyday use. It is a more individualized and practical OS.
The screenshots of the Y1’s OS (above) show that the interface is more organized. It supports features such as file folders as well as App managers.
The Y1’s multi-tasking backdrop uses a “card-style” design. This makes it easier to manage the tabs on the backdrop. Click the “small broom” icon at the button to close all the apps that are open.
The Coolpad Y1 sports a 13mp main camera which is very common among Android smartphones today. This phone also supports programs such as HDR, beauty enhancement, etc. Name it and it is all there. The following photos were taken using the Coolpad Y1’s camera.
Not bad, right?
The usefulness of the Snapdragon 410 chipset
This section is about any performance issues the Y1 faces. Its processor is the 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 410 quad-core chipset. It also has 1GB RAM which is standard among smartphones in the thousands range. So, how does it fare when it comes to performance? Below are its results from the Antutu benchmark test.
The Antutu test encompasses memory performance, CPU performance, 2D/3D graphic performance, etc., making an evaluation of the phone’s overall hardware. The Coolpad Y1’s score in the Antutu test is 18402 which is acceptable.
The NenaMark is a tool that tests GPU processor performance in Android smartphone. It evaluates graphic performance through video demos. The NenaMark 2 is suitable for Android devices that use the PowerVr SGX 540 GPU and above. In the end, the Y1’s score in Nenamark test was 59.8fps which is also fine. It should be enough for users to play most cellphone games on the Y1.
Speaking of gaming, the Snapdragon 410 provides a good gaming performance. There is not freezing or such.
As for videos, the phone’s built-in video player supports the most common video formats. What is even more convenient is that you can create a separate window for the video you are playing. That way, even when you are surfing the net or texting someone, you can still watch your videos.
On Monday, it was announced that Huawei will launch the first cellphone in its Honor series to use China Telecom 4G, the Changwan 4. The original thread has been deleted but the photos can still be found online.
The photos show that the Changwan 4 will use Qualcomm’s 1.2Ghz processor, the Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916), which is a 64-bit processor using A53 cores. It is particularly capable of saving a lot of power. The OS is the new 32-bit EMUI which is based on the Android 4.4.3.

As for its specs, it uses the 1.7GHz MT6592 octa-core chipset, has 2GB DDR3 RAM, and sports a 5-inch 1080p Sharp display screen. It also has a 2300mAh battery, supports dual-SIM, and its OS is the Android 4.42. There are 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions. It costs at least 1999 RMB (325.44 USD).
This Monday, a new snapshot of the OPPO’s new phone called the N3 appeared online. As the name shows, it is part of the OPPO’s N-series which is focused on photography.
From the photo, it looks like the N3 will have a revolving camera like the N1 but unlike the latter, the N3’s screen will follow the very rare “scroll” design. There will be speakers on both sides of the phone and it will also have dual-LED lights.
Now, another concept photo of the OPPO N3 has appeared and it looks very reliable. It does not look very different from the N1 but it has two LED lights put together like the iPhone 6.
This afternoon, Xiaomi co-founder, Li Wanqiang, announced in his Weibo account that the company is getting ready to release a new 1499 RMB Hongmi flagship phone. There is no mistake. At the wake of the Meizu MX4’s success, Xiaomi is on the move.
As of now, nothing is known about its specifications, but it should use the MT6595 processor like the MX4.
