The Edge (2024) has a 50MP OIS-enabled primary camera on the back, paired with a 13MP ultrawide shooter (with a 120˚ field of view). The Galaxy A35 also has a 50MP primary camera with OIS, though the remaining sensors are different — one is an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 123˚ field of view and a 5MP macro shooter. For selfies, the Motorola phone has a 32MP sensor whereas the Galaxy device has a 13MP snapper.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 produces better colors and retains more detail than Edge (2024). It also does a better job in low-light conditions. The Motorola phone has a higher-resolution ultrawide camera with autofocus that doubles as a macro camera. The Galaxy A35’s ultrawide camera lacks autofocus, though. Samsung’s Secure Folder isn’t as secure as you think: files can be accessed from outside

Samsung’s Secure Folder, a feature designed to provide industry-grade security for sensitive data on Galaxy devices, has been found to have a significant flaw. Recent discoveries reveal that apps and photos stored in the Secure Folder can be accessed under certain conditions, which raises concerns about the privacy and security of information stored in the space.

Here’s how it works and how you can avoid the flaw

The Secure Folder functions as a “Work” profile, which allows users to store private apps, photos, and files separately from their main profile. Normally, if an app attempts to access files from the Secure Folder, the system blocks access unless the app is explicitly permitted.

However, a Reddit user named lawyerz88 discovered that this security measure fails when using a “Work” app (with a media picker) tied to a separate work profile. In that case, files stored inside the Secure Folder become accessible through that app. So it’s not too difficult to bypass the intended privacy protections.

“If you have the work profile enabled through something like Island or Shelter (or you know, your actual workplace), any apps in the work profile can access the entirety of files saved in secure folder without any restrictions whatsoever.” notes the Reddit user. “It seems it’s restricted by policy only and only from the personal profile and someone forgot to restrict access via another work profile.”

Android Authority confirmed the flaw using the Shelter app, which can create a work profile on any device. This means that anyone with physical access to a Galaxy device could potentially exploit this vulnerability to view Secure Folder data. The flaw undermines Samsung’s claims of robust security, as sensitive information stored in the Secure Folder could be exposed without the owner’s knowledge.

While accessing the Secure Folder typically requires biometric authentication or a PIN/password, the workaround through Work apps renders these protections ineffective. The user reported his findings, and in response, Samsung reportedly confirmed that they were aware of it. The company recently fixed the boot loop issue associated with the Secure Folder and now that many people are aware of this issue, we hope the company fixes it as soon as possible.

Oppo exec debunks Find X8 Ultra launch delay rumors, confirms April launch

Reports suggest that three Chinese smartphone brands are set to launch their “Ultra” models in quick succession. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Oppo Find X8 Ultra, and Vivo X200 Ultra are expected to debut in February, March, and April, respectively. While the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is confirmed to launch on Feb. 27, a new development reveals that the Find X8 Ultra will be unveiled in April.

Today, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station released the above Weibo post to reveal that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is the “Ultra” that will launch in the first quarter of this year. Without specifying the exact name, the tipster claimed that another Ultra, which was expected to launch in Q1, has changed its release date. He could be talking about the Find X8 Ultra, which now appears to be rescheduled to launch in Q2.

Oppo’s Zhou Yibao confirms April launch for Find X8 Ultra

After this Weibo post, Oppo fans started reaching out to Find Series Product Manager Zhou Yibao for an update on the X8 Ultra’s delayed arrival. To clear up the doubts, he released the above Weibo post to clarify that the company never changed the Find X8 Ultra’s launch schedule. It is still set to be unveiled in April as originally planned and it is guaranteed that customers will be able to purchase it that same month.

He added that the Find X8 Ultra will be the only Ultra phone in China with a flat display. While he did not go into the specifics, he revealed that the display will be surrounded by the thinnest bezels ever seen on a smartphone. Alongside the X8U, Oppo will also unveil new IoT devices, a brand-new chip platform, and an ultra-lightweight compact flagship under the Find series.

So, it appears that Oppo may launch three smartphones in April in China. The first one is the Find X8 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and the other two are said to be “X8S” branded phones, such as the Find X8S and Find X8S Mini (unofficial name). The X8S models may come equipped with the new Dimensity 9400+ chip, which is expected to go official in March.

CMF Buds 2 Plus spotted on FCC, design, dimension, battery & charging revealed

Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF, is reportedly working on its next TWS earbuds, the CMF Buds 2 Plus. The company has launched the CMF Buds Pro, CMF Buds, and Buds Pro 2 so far.

The upcoming Buds 2 Plus has recently appeared on the FCC certification website, which reveals key details about its design, battery, and features. While it’s unclear whether the Buds 2 Plus will succeed the original CMF Buds (released back in March 2024), the certification hints at notable upgrades within a familiar design language.

The CMF Buds 2 Plus (model number B184) will feature a square-shaped case with a rotating dial, similar to the CMF Buds Pro 2. This dial, expected to be called the ‘Smart Dial,’ will allow users to adjust volume, control playback, and customize settings, offering enhanced functionality compared to the original CMF Buds.

The case also bears the ‘CMF by Nothing’ branding at the bottom right corner, maintaining the brand’s minimalist aesthetic.

In terms of dimensions, the case measures 73mm x 64mm and weighs 105 grams. The earbuds themselves feature a semi-in-ear design. Although it’s unclear if they will include silicone ear tips. Each earbud is powered by a 53mAh battery, while the case packs a 460mAh one.

The case of the upcoming Buds 2 Plus supports 3W input and 1.2W output, which means each earbud charges at 0.6W. Judging from the battery capacity, it should result in a decently fast charging speed. The Buds 2 Plus will also support Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, which ensures seamless pairing and efficient operation.

While other details remain under wraps, the Buds 2 Plus could potentially launch alongside the Nothing Phone (3a) series on March 4. More information is expected to be revealed as we inch closer to the launch. To recall, the CMF Buds Pro 2 currently retails at Rs 4,299, while the original CMF Buds are available for Rs 2,499.

Sony Xperia 1 VII to feature Exmor T sensors for all cameras: here’s why it matters

Sony is set to significantly upgrade the camera capabilities of its upcoming flagship, the Xperia 1 VII. According to a report from Japanese publication Sumahodigest, Sony is incorporating its latest Exmor T sensor across all three rear cameras. This marks a notable improvement over last year’s Xperia 1 VI, which featured the Exmor T sensor only on the primary camera.

What’s special about Exmor T sensors?

The Exmor T sensor, Sony’s newest stacked CMOS sensor, utilizes a 2-layer transistor pixel technology. It significantly reduces noise, enhances low-light performance, and improves dynamic range compared to the older Exmor RS sensor.

While the sensor sizes and megapixel counts are expected to remain unchanged—52 MP (48 MP effective) for the main camera, and 12 MP each for the ultrawide and telephoto cameras—the integration of Exmor T across all lenses could result in a smoother transition and more consistent colors between lenses. Not to mention this development is expected to uplift the overall photography experience.

Sony has a consistent track record of launching its Xperia 1 series phones in the second quarter. The Xperia 1 VII is expected to follow suit, with a likely launch in May 2024. Hopefully, more information will be revealed as we inch closer to the launch.

To recall, the Xperia 1 VI packs a 6.5″ 19.5:9 display with 1080 x 2340 resolution. It came with Android 14 and support for 3 major Android updates. On the inside, it packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which is paired with UFS 4.0 storage for faster app loading and file transfer. There is a 5000mAh battery that supports 30W wired and 15W wireless charging.

By equipping all rear cameras with the Exmor T sensor, the Xperia 1 VII is poised to deliver a significant improvement in image quality. Nonetheless, the image processing also plays a crucial role here. So we will wait till the launch to test the phone ourselves and see how Sony takes advantage of the new technology. It will also be interesting to see how the 1 VII competes with the mainstream flagships such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra or the vivo X200 Pro that primarily focuses on computational photography.

Samsung may have cancelled its new 3-in-1 Qi 2 wireless charger

Samsung appears to have quietly cancelled its development of the highly anticipated three-in-one wireless charger, which it announced alongside the Galaxy S25 series last month. The official product page for the charger has been removed, and it has led to speculation that the accessory may have been cancelled or at least delayed indefinitely.

The three-in-one wireless charger, which was expected to support the Qi2 standard via the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), promised compatibility with both iPhones and Galaxy S25 series devices.

The S25 series models support the Qi 2 standard, but unlike recent iPhones, they don’t have magnets inside. So you will need to buy a case with built-in magnets to make the most of the 3-in-1 wireless charger.

Plus if you’re using an Ultra model, the magnets may interfere with the signals of your S Pen. So these are the aspects you need to keep in mind before choosing to wait for the wireless charger or getting a case with magnets.

Coming back to the 3-in-1 charger, the sudden removal of the product page has left many wondering whether it has been cancelled. While Samsung has yet to reveal anything officially, industry experts speculate that they may have encountered technical challenges that require significant changes to the product. It may have led to a delay or a cancellation of the product altogether.

Lenovo launches Legion Blade 9000K 2025 gaming PC with Ultra 9 285K, RTX 5080, liquid cooling & Wi-Fi 7

Lenovo is starting 2025 with a strong entry into the high-end gaming PC market, building on last year’s model. At its latest launch event, the company introduced the Legion Blade 9000K 2025 AI Genesis Edition, a high-performance gaming desktop designed for both enthusiasts and creators.

To keep thermals in check, the Blade 9000K is equipped with a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooling system, capable of dissipating up to 280W of heat. The Legion Blade 9000K 2025 AI Genesis Edition comes in three configurations, though only two are currently available.

The flagship Ultra 9 285K model (RTX 5080, 64GB RAM, 2TB storage) is priced at 25,999 yuan ($3,587), with a launch discount of 23,999 yuan ($3,311).

The Ultra 7 265K variant (RTX 5080, 32GB RAM, 2TB storage) costs 22,499 yuan ($3,104), discounted to 20,499 yuan ($2,828).

The top-tier configuration with an RTX 5090D has yet to be released.

Honor is bringing cross-device connectivity to iOS at MWC 2025

Chinese smartphone brands have been stepping up their efforts to bridge the gap between their devices and Apple’s ecosystem. We’ve already seen features like O+ Connect on the Oppo Find N5, which enables seamless file sharing and remote desktop access for Mac users. Now, Honor is joining the trend.

The company has confirmed that it will introduce cross-device connectivity with iOS at MWC 2025, as part of its broader Alpha Plan. Honor shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) while branding the feature as AI Connect on its website. While details remain scarce, AI Connect will reportedly sit alongside AI Safety and AI Upscale.

Cross-device sharing has long been a challenge due to Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem. Users often have to rely on cloud services or third-party apps for file transfers between iOS and Android.  However, Honor’s new system could offer an integrated alternative, removing the need for external applications.

Another teaser posted by Honor on X likely gives more clarity on how this technology might work. It suggests that the company might update its existing file-sharing service, Honor Share, to support cross-ecosystem transfers

Oppo confirms Find N5 won’t launch in Europe

Oppo‘s latest foldable, the Find N5, has been making headlines for its sleek design and advanced features. However, despite its global launch on February 20, 2025, the device won’t be hitting European shelves anytime soon. The company confirmed this to YouTuber Tech Chap.

According to Oppo:

“We carefully tailor our product launches to each region based on in-depth market research and strategic priorities.

The Find N5 will not be launching in Europe. Instead, in Q1 2025, we will introduce the Reno13 series across Europe on February 24, offering consumers more choices with cutting-edge AI features and stylish, trend-forward designs. Stay tuned for updates.”

The decision to withhold the Find N5 from the European market is particularly disappointing given that OnePlus, a subsidiary of Oppo, has also announced it will not release its foldable, the Open 2, this year.

That leaves Oppo’s home country, China, and Singapore for now where you can buy this foldable starting this week. We could also see its launch in other Asian country later this year, but that’s not confirmed yet.

It runs Android 15 with ColorOS 15, featuring AI-powered search, call summaries, and O+ Connect for seamless file sharing.

One UI 7 for Galaxy S24 series is almost here – here’s how to prepare

The wait for a stable One UI 7 rollout has stretched too much, as Samsung is yet to upgrade a single Galaxy device to the latest software. However, now it seems the patience is about to pay off, at least for the Galaxy S24 series users, as the stable rollout might kick off anytime soon.

The One UI 7 beta testing for the Galaxy S24 series started in early December 2024, which has been stretched by Samsung beyond the patience level of many Galaxy fans, including myself. That’s why I recently wrote an article on how this massive delay could make people lose trust in Samsung’s software update policy.

Last week, the S24 series received its fourth One UI 7 beta after nearly one and a half months of releasing the third beta. This was too disappointing, but then a Samsung Community moderator from the One UI beta team announced that the stable version will be released very soon. A day after the fourth beta, the fifth beta went live, suggesting the stable release is almost here.

While we’re still waiting for an official announcement, reports say the stable version will be released sometime in March. This aligns with Samsung’s earlier promise of releasing the stable update to Galaxy S series devices in the first quarter. With that in mind, Galaxy S24 users should start making preparations for a smooth upgrade to One UI 7.

One UI 7 preparations for the Galaxy S24 series

1. Backup your data

Software updates rarely cause data loss, but why take the risk? Use Samsung’s Temporary cloud backup to store everything safely online for free (up to 100GB per file, available for 30 days). Go to Settings > Device care > Maintenance mode > Temporary cloud backup to get started. You can also use a Smart Switch or a USB cable to back up to a PC.

2. Update apps and software

Samsung updates its apps for One UI 7 compatibility, so make sure everything is up to date. Check Galaxy Store and Play Store for app updates. Also, make sure that you have the latest software available for your device by navigating to Settings > Software updates > Download and install to ensure your device is running the latest version.

3. Free up storage space

One UI 7 will be a big download, so make sure your Galaxy device has at least 5-10GB of free internal storage. This will also help your device run better overall.

4. Charge your phone

A major update like this can take time. Hence, it’s recommended to keep the battery level above 30% to avoid issues during the installation.

5. Wait and watch (if you want)

Even stable updates can have bugs. If you want to play it safe, check forums like Samsung Community and Reddit to see if others report issues before upgrading.
