iQOO Neo 10 Pro confirmed to be powered by Dimensity 9400, in-house Q2 chip

iQOO has yet to announce the official launch date for the Neo 10 series but continues to reveal details about the upcoming phones. Following the recent design reveal, iQOO confirmed on Weibo today that the Neo 10 Pro will run on the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset.

The leaks already pointed to the Dimensity 9400 powering the Neo 10 Pro, so this announcement comes as no surprise. Built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, the Dimensity 9400 features a 1 + 3 + 4 CPU configuration. 

It includes a high-performance Cortex-X925 core clocked at 3.63GHz, three Cortex-X5 cores reaching up to 3.3GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.4GHz.

The Dimensity 9400 features the Immortalis G925 GPU, which reportedly delivers 41% performance improvement compared to its predecessor. Gamers will also appreciate the 40% faster ray tracing capabilities and a 44% improvement in power efficiency.

The Chinese iQOO 13 weighs around 207 to 212 grams, whereas the Realme GT 7 Pro available in China weighs 223 grams. Reduced battery size on their global variants would possibly allow them to keep the weight under 200 grams.

As for the battery, it is rumored to be of 6000mAh capacity. However, it’s compensated for by the inclusion of both 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

At the same time, the Reno 13 Pro has also emerged in the Geekbench benchmarking platform database, revealing its chipset and other details.

However, when it comes to gaming, the experience isn’t as seamless. While Samsung phones are undeniably capable, there are factors to consider that might influence your decision, particularly when compared to some competitors.

Software optimization is a crucial aspect of mobile gaming. A well-optimized phone can squeeze maximum performance out of its hardware, ensuring smooth gameplay. 

Unfortunately, Samsung’s software optimization for gaming hasn’t always been stellar. This isn’t to say it’s always bad, but compared to some competitors who offer dedicated gaming modes with resource management tweaks, Samsung’s approach feels less focused.  

While features like Game Booster exist, they often feel like surface-level solutions. Gamers crave deeper control over how their phone allocates resources during intense gaming sessions. This lack of granular control can lead to situations where the phone juggles background tasks and the game itself, potentially impacting performance.

3. Touch sampling rate

The touch sampling rate measures how frequently a phone’s display registers touch input. Higher rates result in faster, more responsive touch detection, which is crucial for reaction-heavy mobile games.  

Some high-end gaming phones from Chinese OEMs feature crazy touch sampling rates of over 2000Hz. While Samsung excels in providing high refresh rates, its touch sampling rates fall behind across its lineup. 

For instance, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship, maxes out at 240Hz, with no Samsung phones exceeding this rate. And there are no Samsung phones that offer a touch sampling rate higher than this. In contrast, even mid-range devices from Xiaomi like the Redmi K70 Pro boast an impressive 2160Hz touch sampling rate.  

This disparity doesn’t make Samsung phones unplayable but might put them at a slight disadvantage in competitive gaming, where every millisecond matters. However, the touch sampling rate is only one aspect of touch responsiveness—overall display latency also plays a significant role.

4. The Missing Piece: A Dedicated Gaming Ecosystem

Dedicated gaming phones from brands like Asus and Red Magic create a full ecosystem designed for serious mobile gamers. These devices often include hardware add-ons like clip-on controllers and cooling fans to elevate the gaming experience.

In contrast, Samsung lacks such dedicated accessories or built-in gaming-focused features. This lack of a dedicated gaming ecosystem can leave Samsung phones feeling like generic high-powered devices, not specifically designed with the hardcore gamer in mind.

While some users rely on third-party accessories as a workaround, these solutions fall short compared to a manufacturer-backed approach.

5. The Verdict

Samsung phones are undoubtedly powerful and capable of handling even the most demanding mobile games. However, compared to some Chinese OEMs, they may fall short in areas like thermal management, game-specific software optimization, and consistently high touch sampling rates. The absence of dedicated hardware features for gaming can also be a drawback for certain users.  

These aspects are crucial for hardcore mobile gamers. However, it’s worth noting that smartphone manufacturers design their devices to appeal to a broader audience. Samsung offers a well-rounded phone experience that caters to various user needs, including gaming, but it might not be laser-focused on maximizing every aspect of this particular segment.

We uploaded an unboxing and hands-on video of the Xiaomi 15 series on YouTube shortly after its launch. Following that, we shared a full review of the Xiaomi 15, which we think is a strong contender among compact flagships.

It’s the flagship you want

For those unfamiliar, the Xiaomi 15 Pro comes in classic colors like Spruce Green, Rock Grey, and White, along with a Bright Silver edition, which we chose for our review.

However, its back has a highly glossy finish, making it unsurprisingly a fingerprint magnet. We recommend avoiding the silver version of the Xiaomi 15 Pro for this reason. 

The phone features a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with flagship-grade specs, including a 120Hz refresh rate, 2K resolution, and 1920Hz PWM dimming. While it’s not the best display on the market, it’s more than adequate for content consumption and everyday use.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the Xiaomi 15 Pro outperforms the Xiaomi 14 Pro in various s, including Genshin Impact. What’s particularly impressive is its efficiency: the Xiaomi 15 Pro uses less power to run its display compared to the standard Xiaomi 14. It reportedly consumes 4.42W per second, whereas the Xiaomi 14 Pro consumes 6.17W per second.

Huawei captures third place in Q3 2024 foldable market

Huawei has secured a foothold in the top 3 of the global foldable phone market for Q3 2024, according to a recent report by IDC. That’s a notable comeback for the Chinese tech giant, despite a lack of recent overseas launches in the foldable space.

Landing at 13.2% market share, Huawei’s performance hinges largely on its success within the domestic Chinese market. While the company hasn’t launched new foldable devices internationally for some time, its flagship offerings within China seem to have paid off. 

Additionally, the company’s flagship, Mate XT (review), has captured significant consumer attention in the mainland. Huawei’s tri-fold phone is set to launch globally soon. This innovative device has already piqued the interest of international consumers and could drive sales in global markets.

Looking forward, industry experts believe Huawei could further solidify its position in the foldable market by Q1 2025. However, this is contingent on the success of new product launches.

Samsung is still in the lead

Meanwhile, Samsung reclaims the top spot in Q3 2024 with a dominant 51% market share. The South Korean tech giant’s success is attributed to the well-received Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 handsets, which have regained market share lost to Huawei and Honor earlier this year.

Lenovo, with its Motorola brand, secures second place with a 15.1% market share. It’s impressive that Motorola has achieved such a significant share with a lineup focused solely on clamshell foldables. Rounding out the top 5 are Honor (7.6%) and Xiaomi (6.3%).

The primary camera on the back of the GT 6T outputs excellent daylight shots with good details and natural colors. Portrait shots are nicer with effective background blur. The device also excels in low-light conditions with detailed images and minimal noise. However, the ultrawide camera is less impressive. It outputs softer and less contrasty images and is blurry in low-light conditions.

This smartphone also rocks the powerful Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, though it’s not primarily tuned for gaming. It’s the only metal unibody 5G smartphone in the market, offering better durability and a premium feel compared to plastic or glass alternatives. It’s also IP65-rated, by the way.

The Nord 4 can smoothly handle high-end games. However, it lacks an efficient thermal management. Hence, for long gaming sessions, you’d want to pick some other phone primarily tuned for gaming, such as Poco F6 or Realme GT 6T.

The primary camera performs well in daylight. It produces sharp images with a good dynamic range and accurate colors. However, the ultrawide camera struggles with sharpness and dynamic range. Low-light photography yields natural-looking shots with good details using the primary camera but not so good with the ultrawide camera. Selfies come out to be decent, though.

Video quality is good in daylight and low-light conditions, though it lacks details when using the ultrawide camera.

The low-light shots are excellent, producing greater detail with minimal noise. The ultrawide and selfie cameras also maintain good detail and color accuracy. Video recording is also excellent with the primary and ultrawide cameras, though the selfie video is average.

Teclast has unveiled its latest Android tablet, the T60 Plus, a well-rounded device offering a large display, solid performance, and an affordable price tag. This release follows the earlier launch of the Teclast T60 earlier this year. Let’s check out its key specs.

The Teclast T60 Plus features a 12-inch IPS display with a 2000×1200 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It comes with 330 nits of brightness, making it ideal for indoor use, and equips a 92% screen-to-body ratio for an immersive viewing experience, whether for work, streaming, or casual gaming. The tablet sports a slim 6.5mm bezel, enhancing its sleek and modern design.

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by MediaTek Helio G88 processor, a 12nm octa-core chipset featuring a 2x Cortex-A75 at 2.0GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 at 1.8GHz configuration. It comes with 6GB of RAM, which can be expanded by an additional 10GB using virtual memory. The tablet equips 128GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.

The T60 Plus runs on the latest Android 14, providing access to modern features. The tablet includes a 13MP rear autofocus camera and an 8MP front-facing shooter for photography and video calls. The cameras are ideal for casual photography, scanning documents, and online meetings.

The Teclast T60 Plus comes with an 8000mAh battery offering up to 10 hours of usage, dual 4G SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, and WiFi (2.4GHz/5GHz). It equips GPS, Glonass, Galileo, and Beidou for navigation, while light, hall, and proximity sensors, along with a gyroscope, enhance gaming and app experiences. The Teclast T60 Plus is currently priced at $129.99 and it is now available on Aliexpress. It is also expected to be available on Amazon soon.

Vivo S20 processor revealed via benchmark

After the X200 series flagships, Vivo is set to launch its mid-range S20 series smartphones in China. We are expecting two models, the Vivo S20 and S20 Pro, by the end of this month. Ahead of the launch, the vanilla model got its performance tested on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. 

Here, the device carrying the model number V2429A achieved a score of 1222 and 3417 in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively.  It features a processor with a prime core running at 2.63 GHz, three mid-cores at 2.40 GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz.

Vivo S20: What can you expect?

Based on these specs, we believe the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, paired with 16GB of RAM. And it runs on the latest Android 15 operating system.

The model number also aligns with previous leaks from China’s 3C and TENAA certification databases. These databases further hinted at a range of configurations for the S20, including 8GB, 12GB, and a hefty 16GB of RAM, alongside storage options from 128GB to a staggering 1TB. 

Moreover, the phone’s display is expected to be a large 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel. On the camera front, the S20 appears set to feature a 50MP main sensor alongside an 8MP secondary sensor on the back. The front will be home to a 50MP selfie camera.

The 3C certification reveals the battery will have a sizable 6365mAh capacity, which Vivo will likely market as a 6500mAh cell. This will be coupled with 90W wired fast charging. 

There seems to be no wireless charging support, but we may get an under-display fingerprint scanner for added security.

Vivo has not yet announced the launch date for the S20 series, but rumors suggest it might debut on November 28, 2024. Meanwhile, Oppo’s Reno 13 series, set to compete directly with the S20 series, is scheduled to launch on November 25. This makes Vivo’s launch likely to follow soon after.
