Best Honor Magic 6 Pro alternatives in India

The Honor Magic 6 Pro arrived in India with a thud more than a cheer. Don’t get us wrong, much of the Magic 6 Pro’s specs are flagship territory. Its 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display boasts a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, peak brightness of 1600 nits (HBM), and an in-house NanoCrystal Shield for protection.

The Magic 6 Pro also stands out with its unique camera system. The main 50MP sensor is paired with an impressive 180MP periscope telephoto lens for exceptional portraits and a 50MP camera for ultrawide shots. The front has a 50MP selfie camera and a time of flight (ToF) 3D depth sensor that works as a reliable way for biometrics.

Powering the device is a current-best Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. And even the battery here is the latest silicon tech with a sizeable 5600mAh capacity which supports 80W wired charging and a not-too-shabby 66W wireless charging. Everything about this phone screams ‘2024 flagship.’

However, with a price tag of Rs 90,000 in India, it steps into a crowded market of established flagships, each with its unique features and advantages.

As a result, buyers are naturally inclined to explore alternatives in the same price range. To help with that, we’ve curated a list of the best alternatives to the Honor Magic 6 Pro in India. Let’s start after we take a quick look at the Honor Magic 6 Pro’s specification table.

1. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

For those seeking a top-of-the-line flagship phone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra from last year is a great choice. It often drops below Rs 80,000 in India, making it more affordable than the Honor Magic 6 Pro.

While the Magic 6 Pro has a solid camera setup, the S23 Ultra brings more versatility to the table. It features a 200 MP main sensor, compared to the Magic 6 Pro’s 50 MP, delivering higher resolution and greater detail. And the S23 Ultra has a 3x optical zoom and a 10x periscope telephoto lens, ideal for long-range shots. In contrast, the Magic 6 Pro’s 180 MP periscope telephoto lens only provides 2.5x optical zoom.

Both phones have excellent screens. They both sport a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR support. However, the S23 Ultra’s peak brightness is lower than the Magic 6 Pro’s, with 1750 nits versus 5000 nits. And the Magic 6 Pro also supports Dolby Vision, which the S23 Ultra lacks.

In terms of performance, the S23 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is powerful, but the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Magic 6 Pro is more advanced. The S23 Ultra makes up for this with a more refined One UI 6.1, whereas the Magic 6 Pro uses MagicOS 8.

Battery life is another area where the Magic 6 Pro has an advantage. The S23 Ultra comes with a 5000mAh battery and 45W wired charging, while the Magic 6 Pro features a 5600mAh battery and faster 80W charging. But not to forget, the S24 Ultra is the only one to come with built-in stylus support.

2. Vivo X100 Pro

The Vivo X100 Pro has its own set of strengths. Both it and the Magic 6 Pro offer high-quality displays and an IP68 rating, which is standard for flagship phones.

Performware-wise, the Vivo X100 Pro is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9300 chipset, comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Magic 6 Pro, so you won’t notice a significant performance difference.

The camera setup on the Vivo X100 Pro is also impressive. It features a 50 MP main sensor, a 50 MP ultrawide lens, and a 50 MP telephoto lens with 4.3x optical zoom. Vivo has also collaborated with Zeiss and chipped in its in-house V3 imaging chip to further enhance photo quality. This makes the X100 Pro a strong competitor to the Honor Magic 6 Pro.

Battery life is a strong point for the X100 Pro, with a 5400 mAh battery and 100W wired charging, surpassing the Magic 6 Pro’s 80W wired charging. The X100 Pro supports 50W wireless charging though it’s slightly behind the Magic 6 Pro’s 66W.

3. OnePlus 12

The OnePlus 12 features a 6.82-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. It also has other good display stuff like Dolby Vision support making it a formidable contender, though the Magic 6 Pro has a slight edge in brightness.

Both the OnePlus 12 and the Magic 6 Pro use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, so their performance is nearly identical. However, the OnePlus 12’s camera setup, with a 64 MP telephoto lens and Hasselblad color calibration, offers a competitive alternative to the Magic 6 Pro’s camera system. The Magic 6 Pro’s 180 MP periscope telephoto lens provides more optical zoom, but the OnePlus 12 offers a broader range of photo enhancements.

Battery life is a highlight for the OnePlus 12, featuring 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, compared to the Magic 6 Pro’s 80W wired and 66W wireless. The OnePlus 12 also has a larger battery, which might provide better longevity depending on usage.

Xiaomi 14

The Xiaomi 14 has a more compact 6.36-inch display compared to the Magic 6 Pro’s 6.8-inch screen. Although the Magic 6 Pro has higher peak brightness, the Xiaomi 14’s display is well-balanced with a peak of 3000 nits. Both phones use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, offering similar performance.

The Xiaomi 14’s camera setup includes a 50 MP main sensor, a 50 MP telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50 MP ultrawide lens.

Its 4610 mAh battery is smaller than the Magic 6 Pro’s 5600 mAh, but its 90W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds are competitive. While it falls slightly behind the Magic 6 Pro’s wired charging speed, its wireless charging is comparable.

4. Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a peak brightness of 2600 nits. It has a higher resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels compared to the Magic 6 Pro, but this difference is unlikely to be noticeable in everyday use.

The Indian variant of the S24 Plus uses the Exynos 2400 chip, which may not match the performance or efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Magic 6 Pro but is a flagship processor that can handle demanding tasks.

The S24 Plus features a camera setup of a 50 MP wide lens, a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide lens. Although it lacks the Magic 6 Pro’s high-resolution telephoto, it compensates with impressive video capabilities, including 8K recording.

Its 4900 mAh battery with 45W wired charging is competitive but doesn’t quite match the Magic 6 Pro’s larger battery and faster wired charging.

5. Verdict

Honor Magic 6 Pro Alternatives

The Honor Magic 6 Pro is a solid flagship phone with standout features like the 180 MP periscope telephoto lens, AMOLED display, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. However, there are some reliable alternatives like Galaxy S23 Ultra which offer similar if not better experiences.

Ultimately, choosing the best phone depends on your priorities. If you want the best camera system, consider the S23 Ultra or Vivo X100 Pro. If you need a phone with a built-in stylus, the S23 Ultra is your best bet. For ultra-fast charging, the OnePlus 12 and Xiaomi 14 are excellent options.

Remember, specs only tell part of the story. User reviews and in-depth comparisons will help you understand which phone offers the best real-world experience. Just don’t expect any of them to be truly revolutionary—the flagship market is becoming increasingly similar.

iPhone 16 series launch date tipped

Apple was expected to release the iPhone 16 series sometime in September this year. Now the latest news is that Apple could launch the new iPhone lineup on September 10. The phones are expected to go on sale starting September 20. Although we are still over a month away from the launch, numerous leaks and rumors have already offered an idea of what to expect from the upcoming devices.

Images of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max have already revealed the color options of the new series. The base iPhone 16 will have a white color option instead of yellow and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with slightly darker shades of the color options offered by the predecessor. You can check out the images of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max dummy units here. The base model also adopts a vertical camera layout in order to support spatial video.

According to previous reports, the iPhone 16 Pro Max may be equipped with a 6.9-inch large screen. The peak brightness is also expected to be further improved. Some rumors also claim that the display borders will get thinner than the predecessor (from 1.55mm to 1.15mm).

When it comes to performance, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are likely to be equipped with the A18 Pro chip, which will not only have more CPU power than the A17 Pro but will also be able to better perform the on-device AI tasks. The A18 Pro chip is said to be fabricated on TSMC’s 2nd generation 3nm process.

Speaking of the non-Pro models, it’s still not clear whether Apple will use the same A18 Pro chip or use last year’s chipset, just as the company has done with the last two generations of iPhones. According to a report from last month, Apple was indeed planning to use the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. However, the backend code suggests that the company will use the “A18 chipset” in this year’s non-Pro models. It could be a slightly cut-down version of the A18 Pro. Nonetheless, these are still rumors and the company is yet to make things official.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra tops Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 in DxoMark camera test

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has outperformed the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 in the DxOMark camera test. With a score of 146 points, it ranks 18th among the top smartphones by camera score.

This year’s Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, sits at 23rd with 144 points, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus hold the 21st spot with 145 points.

DxOMark’s tests show improvements over the previous Edge 40 Pro, particularly in noise reduction and detail retention during zooming. The phone excels in capturing portraits, with accurate exposure and minimal motion blur, scoring 136 points in the “Friends & Family” use case.

Low-light performance is a mixed bag. DxOMark praises the phone for accurate target exposure and pleasing color casts in both photos and videos but notes issues with noise reduction inconsistencies and occasional scene integrity artifacts.

Despite this, the phone’s HDR format contributes to good overall image quality with improved exposure and color balance.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra DxoMark Camera

Photo capture, however, appears to be a strong point. DxOMark credits the Edge 50 Ultra’s HDR format for achieving good overall image quality through improved exposure and color balance.

In close-ups, a new use case by DxOMark, the Edge 50 Ultra shows some limitations. It performs decently but falls short of top competitors, with less subject detail and occasional white balance issues.

Autofocus is said to be significantly improved over the Edge 40 Pro, offering near-instantaneous shutter lag in most lighting conditions, including HDR mode. This gives the Edge 50 Ultra an edge over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, allowing it to capture sharp images in various scenarios and achieve a wide depth of field for well-focused group shots.

Image detail across all conditions receives a positive nod, although DxOMark notes a slight drop in low-light situations. Still, it’s impressive to see a Motorola phone surpassing the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra in one of its strongest areas.

For a recap, the Edge 50 Ultra features a quad-camera setup on the back, including a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens with macro capabilities, a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a laser autofocus sensor. it is available for the price of ~$1000. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is available for $1300.

Huawei Nova Flip launching soon: What to expect from this foldable phone?

Huawei is all set to launch its upcoming foldable smartphone Nova Flip in the Chinese market on August 5, 2024. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to its premium Pocket series, the Nova Flip promises to bring the foldable experience to a wider audience. In this article, we will delve into its expected features based on the leaks and the info we have got so far. So without any further ado, let’s start.

Huawei Nova Flip
Huawei Nova Flip

1. Design and Display

The Nova Flip is expected to feature a clamshell design, similar to its predecessor, the Pocket 2. However, it will differentiate itself with a distinctive square-shaped cover display, a departure from the circular design seen on the Pocket 2. This design is expected to offer a fresh aesthetic while providing essential functionalities.

The main internal display is rumored to be a 6.94-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED panel, making it one of the largest foldable screens available alongside Pocket 2. The cover screen is expected to be 2.14 inches with a 60Hz refresh rate and will provide essential functionalities such as checking notifications, answering calls, and capturing selfies.

The foldable will be available in two models: a leather variant and a glass-based model. It will come in four color options: New Green, Sakura Pink, Zero White, and Starry Black.

As per leaks, the Nova Flip, when unfolded, measures 6.88mm in thickness for the leather variant and 6.9mm for the glass-based model. When folded, it is 15.08mm thick for the leather variant and 15.12mm for the glass-based model. The weight of the phone is 195 grams for the leather variant and 199 grams for the glass-based model.

2. Performance and Hardware

While exact details about the processor are still unclear, Geekbench leaks hint that the Nova Flip might be powered by a Kirin 8000 chipset. However, other leaks suggest that the device could feature a Kirin 9000 series chipset, possibly the Kirin 9000S or the Kirin 9010.

To complement the chipset, the device is expected to come with a substantial 12GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and app management.

Storage options are likely to include 256GB, 512GB, and potentially even a 1TB variant, catering to users with different storage requirements. The Nova Flip is also rumored to pack a 4,400mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging, providing sufficient power for a full day of use and quick charging capabilities.

3. Camera

The device is tipped to feature a dual rear camera system, comprising a primary 50-megapixel RYYB sensor (f/1.9 aperture) with a 1/1.56-inch size and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro camera.

For selfies and video calls, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera is expected to deliver clear and detailed shots. While specific camera features and capabilities are yet to be confirmed, the combination of high-resolution sensors and versatile lenses suggests that the Nova Flip will be a capable photography device.

4. Software

The Nova Flip will run on Huawei’s HarmonyOS, offering a seamless user experience and access to a growing ecosystem of apps and services. The device is likely to incorporate AI-powered features to enhance performance, photography, and overall user experience.

5. Pricing and Availability

One of the key selling points of the Nova Flip is its expected competitive pricing. Huawei aims to make foldable technology more accessible to a wider audience, and the Nova Flip is positioned as a more affordable option compared to flagship foldable phones.

While the exact pricing has not been officially confirmed, leaks suggest that the device will be priced at around 5,000 yuan, which translates to approximately $698.

The Huawei Nova Flip is scheduled to launch on August 5, 2024, and pre-orders have already commenced in China. With its combination of stylish design, impressive specifications, and competitive pricing, the Nova Flip has the potential to capture the attention of consumers seeking a cutting-edge device without breaking the bank.

iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max battery leak suggest minimal improvements over predecessors

With Apple‘s annual September launch event approaching, rumors surrounding the iPhone 16 lineup continue to swirl. Today, a leak originating from China (via GSMArena) sheds light on the battery capacities of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.

According to the leak, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to pack a 3,577mAh battery, representing a modest 9% increase over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3,274mAh cell. The iPhone 16 Pro Max, on the other hand, might see a slightly smaller bump of 5%, going from the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 4,441mAh to 4,676mAh.

While these increases are hardly revolutionary, they do suggest Apple’s continued focus on battery life improvement. Even these minor capacity expansions, coupled with efficiency gains in the chipset and display technology, could translate to longer on-the-go use for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max users.

iPhone 16 Pro 5x optical tetraprism zoom lens

The Pro iPhone 16 models are also rumored to get a charging upgrade this year. Both models are expected to support 40W wired charging, an increase from the current 27W limit. Wireless charging speeds might also improve, rising from 15W to 20W with MagSafe.

It’s important to remember that these are simply leaks, and Apple hasn’t confirmed any details about the iPhone 16 lineup. However, given the consistent track record of some leak sources, there’s a chance this information could be accurate.

If these leaks hold any weight, iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max users might see marginally better battery life and a more streamlined charging experience.

However, with some Android flagships already offering significantly larger batteries and even faster charging solutions, Apple’s improvements might not be enough to completely close the gap. We’ll have to wait for the official unveiling in September to get a clearer picture of what Apple has in store for its flagship iPhones.

One UI 7 will finally bring “Large Folder” to Samsung phones

In a move that feels overdue, Samsung‘s One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, is rumored to introduce a feature many competitor Android skins have offered for years: Large Folders.

While standard folders have been a staple of Android home screen organization for a long time, Large Folders offer a more convenient way to access frequently used apps.

One UI already allows users to group apps within folders on the home screen or app drawer. This keeps frequently used apps readily accessible while minimizing clutter. However, Large Folders take this a step further. Phones running HarmonyOS and HyperOS, for instance, offer customizable Large Folders that expand beyond the standard folder icon size.

These Large Folders typically offer a 3×3 grid layout, allowing for direct access to eight apps with a single tap. The ninth slot displays a minimized icon representing additional apps within the folder. Tapping this minimized icon expands the Large Folder, revealing all the contained apps for easy selection.

While specifics remain unconfirmed, leaks suggest One UI 7’s Large Folders will adopt a similar functionality. Samsung might even introduce additional refinements specific to Galaxy devices. The question remains whether Large Folders will be included in the initial One UI 7 Beta or reserved for later builds.

Samsung’s One UI 7 Beta program is rumored for an August launch, potentially followed by a stable rollout in late October after a Developer Conference unveiling. The Beta program is expected to be available in China, Germany, India, Poland, South Korea, the UK, and the US.

The addition of Large Folders, while not groundbreaking, represents a step towards user experience parity with competitor Android skins. Whether Samsung’s implementation offers any unique advantages over existing solutions remains to be seen.
