In May 2023, Amazon released several new Echo products. It consisted of a TWS earphone and three brand-new smart speakers. The third generation of the Echo Buds was also included in the launch, which goes by the name Amazon Echo Buds.

Now, a new software update is rolling out for Amazon Echo Buds 2023 (3rd generation). The latest update brings new features to the earbuds.

To begin with, you can now tap the earphones to start a suggested playlist, eliminating the need for you to fumble with your phone or even say aloud to ask Alexa for assistance.

Playlists may be started with a single long press or a triple tap, which can be customized in the Alexa app’s settings. Simply, open the Alexa app, head to the Echo Buds device settings, and then search for the audio customization choices.

Considering that Amazon claims to get the playlist by contacting “your preferred audio provider,” it appears that this functionality is compatible with all of the main streaming services. To get started, simply search for “Tap Controls” in the Echo Buds device settings.

Additionally, a new audio personalization feature allows you to adjust the sound and your physical surroundings. To create a richer sound, you may adjust the frequencies to emphasize the bass when taking a walk.

Even better, you can tune each ear separately from the other, so your right ear can have a different frequency range or be louder than your left.

According to the company, this setup takes around four minutes. It’s also important to note that the 2023 model and the 2021 second-generation Echo Buds are compatible with this capability.

Amazon has launched a host of new Echo devices. These include three new smart speakers and a TWS earphone. The latter is dubbed as Amazon Echo Buds and is the third-generation offering in the Echo Buds family. The newest device is quite a downgrade from the second-generation Echo Buds that packed ANC and different design. The e-commerce giant seems to be following a different approach with the new Echo Buds. Read on to know more about the TWS earphones below.

Amazon Echo Buds specifications and features

The Amazon Echo Buds feature a lightweight semi-in-ear design with a stem. They come with customizable tap controls and the earbuds are IPX2 certified. The audio device also supports Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant.

The Amazon Echo Buds are equipped with a 12mm drivers that are claimed to deliver a rich and balanced sound. There are two microphones and a voice detection accelerometer to eliminate surrounding noise while on calls. The TWS earphones pack VIP filter feature that allows users to limit notifications to certain contacts or apps.

The Amazon Echo Buds are powered by a Qualcomm S5 (QCC5171) Bluetooth processor. The TWS earphones support multipoint pairing allowing users to simultaneously pair and switch audio between two devices. The audio device is claimed to be backed by up to 20 hours of battery life with each earbud said to offer 5 hours of usage on a single charge.

Amazon Echo Buds TWS earphones can now track workouts

Last year, in the month of September, along with launching a slew of Echo products, Amazon had also unveiled its Echo Buds true wireless earphones. Now, the earphones are getting a new interesting feature — workout tracking.

Amazon has confirmed that it is rolling out the new workout tracking feature to the Echo Buds over the next few days. It’s noteworthy that the company had started testing the feature last year, a few weeks after launching the product.

The company says that with the new update, the Echo Buds can monitor the duration of a workout and can also estimate the number of calories burnt. It also acts as a step counter and can measure how fast the user walks or runs.

Given that the earphones come with built-in Alexa voice assistant support, the user has the option to start, pause, or end the workout session just through voice commands. The user can also ask for workout details with voice commands.

The Amazon Echo Buds are rated IPX4, making them waterproof and dustproof. They come with Knowles dual balanced armature drivers along with Realtek RTL8763B Bluetooth SoC, Intel S1000 Digital Signal Processor, and Analog ADAU1777 Audio Codec.

There’s also Bluetooth 5.0 Hands-Free Profile (HFP) support and it uses Wi-Fi or mobile data connection for connectivity. It also has an Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) support for audio streaming.

The Echo Buds weighs 7.6 grams while the case weighs 70 grams, as per the company. Amazon claims five hours of battery life and adds that charging them for 15 minutes can provide 2 hours of playback time. Further, the charging case adds 20 hours of playback.

The company claims that it has adopted an active noise cancellation (ANC) technology from Bose. As for the pricing, the Amazon Echo Buds are priced at $129.99.

At its hardware launch event, online retail giant Amazon announced a slew of products under its Echo lineup. Alexa, the smart voice assistant which powers Echo devices, is mostly limited to home devices as of now.
