Xiaomi Mi 5 Gets Android Nougat 7.0 Via MIUI 8.2 Update

A few weeks ago, Xiaomi began rolling out a new MIUI update for its devices. The new update with version number 8.2 brings a bunch of new features and redesigns. But while other devices were getting the update, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was left out. It appears it was for good reason after-all. The Xiaomi Mi 5 has begun getting the update alongside a jump to Android 7.0 Nougat!!!

What this means for Mi 5 owners is that they are currently the only Xiaomi owners running Nougat. Apart from all the exciting new features that Nougat brings, MIUI 8.2 still comes with its own features.

There is a new security center; support for task automation IFTTT; and a new desktop assistant. Xiaomi has also included new system sounds when you take a screenshot, lock and unlock the screen, and when the device is charging; and a number of new ringtones too. There is also a redesigned notification bar.

The update is 1.3GB in size and can be manually downloaded here if you are running the China version of the ROM. Do make sure you read the guide to flashing it manually. There is no news as to when the Global version will be available but we hope it is not far off.

The new update makes the Mi 5 one of the most affordable flagship devices in the market running Nougat. Currently, you can pick up the device for less than the price of the Nokia 6.

Google Rolls out Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update

Barely a few months after the Android 7.1 upgrade was released, Google has announced that it is once again rolling out another update – 7.1.2 that would fix bugs and refine the OS’ features. The beta version of the Android Nougat 7.1.2 started rolling out yesterday to compatible devices which are enrolled in the Android Beta Program. The smartphones which would get the beta version now includes the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player and Pixel C. Next on the line to get the update would be the Nexus 6P.

According to Google, Android 7.1.2 is an incremental maintenance release focused on refinements, so it includes a number of bugfixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for carriers and users. After the Beta testing is over, the final release of the latest version would roll out via OTA updates in a few of months and the Nexus and Pixels smartphones which featured in the Beta program would get it first. Samsung’s Android Nougat Update Schedule for China

Samsung has already started rolling out the Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in some regions. The time of update according to Samsung will vary from country to country.

The official Samsung account on Weibo has however said the Nougat update for residents in Mainland China will begin in mid-February. So if you own any of the devices listed below, you should prepare for the update next month:

S7 and S7 Edge
S6 and S6 Edge
Galaxy Note 5
Galaxy S6 Edge+
Galaxy Tab A with S-Pen (2016)
Galaxy Tab S2 (LTE unlocked version)
Galaxy A3 (2016)
Galaxy A8 (2016)

Samsung says the Nougat update will bring a new system UX, faster speeds for downloading apps, and a faster system operation speed. You will also get new android features like split-screen multitasking, threaded notifications, and an always-on Doze mode.

Android Nougat Update for ZUK Z2 Pro Already Rolling Out

If you own a ZUK Z2 Pro you should look forward to receiving the Android Nougat update today as some owners have started receiving it.

The Lenovo owned company had announced last month that it was planning a Nougat update for the ZUK Z2 Pro and ZUK Z1. The update was scheduled to start rolling out before the beginning of the Spring Festival next week. And true to their words, the update has started already.

The update comes as a ZUI 2.5.335 update based on Android Nougat. It will bring new features, security patches and bug fixes. The changelog is listed below:

System optimization or system stability
System security patches
Split screen experience
Fix system silent problem
Repair off screen after a period of time to open the screen, WeChat “network connection is not available” problem
Repair specific scenarios even accidental loud speaker problem
Repair the occasional system color reversal problem
A small tool to optimize the file manager performance
Some basic Android Nougat changes

We don’t know if the update is rolling out to all devices at once but you can manually check for the update. If you don’t get it today, you probably should keep checking over the next couple of days. The ZUK Z2 should also receive its update starting this week and probably the ZUK Z1 too.

With the new update and the low price the ZUK Z2 Pro sells for, it makes for a great buy.
