Apple has apparently canned its plans for the highly anticipated electric car. Over the years, it was revealed that the brand was actively working on self driving technology and more for its very own Apple Car, but now it seems like AI (Artificial Intelligence) is behind the project being shut down.

Apple Car Canceled, Focus Shifts to AI

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The Cupertino based giant’s ambitious plans had been facing troubles in past months, but work seemed to be going strong. But earlier this week, a surprise announcement shocked nearly 2,000 employees as the Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, and Vice President overlooking the project Kevin Lynch shared the news of the Apple Car being canceled.

People working on the car project who were a part of the SPG (Special Projects Group) are reportedly being shifted to another promising field, which is artificial intelligence. The timing of this announcement falls in line with the booming demand for AI and its massive growth in the past year. The report claims that the team will now be working on generative AI. The SPG consists of engineers and vehicle designers, so their fate is unclear but ay offs might be right around the corner.

If this report is true, then Project Titan is being buried in favor of AI. This isn’t completely surprising since the market for electric vehicles have lowered and automobile makers are currently facing issues in production and falling demand. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at the moment, so take this report with a pinch of salt for now.

Former Apple Engineer Charged with Stealing Autonomous Vehicle Technology

A former Apple engineer has been charged with stealing proprietary autonomous vehicle technology from Apple and fleeing to China. Weibao Wang, 35, joined Apple in 2016 and worked on the company’s self-driving car project. In 2017, he accepted a position at a Chinese company that also develops autonomous vehicles. However, he concealed this change of employment from Apple for four months.

After Wang left Apple, the company conducted an internal investigation and found that he had accessed proprietary data in the days leading up to his departure. In June 2018, federal agents raided Wang’s home and found “large quantities” of Apple’s data. Wang fled to China shortly after the raid.

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged Wang with two counts: theft of trade secrets and interstate transportation of stolen property. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge. “We stand vigilant in enforcing U.S. laws to stop the flow of sensitive technologies to our foreign adversaries,” said Matt Olsen, chief of the DOJ’s National Security Division. “We are committed to doing all we can to prevent these advanced tools from falling into the hands of foreign adversaries.”

Apple has been working on its electric vehicle for years, which is currently being referred to as Apple Car. Internally, this vehicle project is called Titan, and it appears to be in limbo for the past few months.

According to the latest report, Apple Car is expected to launch in the year 2026, and the pricing will be under $100,000. It is also reported that the tech giant is scaling back its vision for the vehicle.

Earlier, the Apple Car was expected to go official by 2025, but now it has been delayed by a year as the Cupertino-based technology giant scales back its ambitious plans for a self-driving electric vehicle.

The company initially planned to design a car where passengers could face one another in a limousine-style car with no steering wheel or pedals. But the project has now been scaled back to have a more traditional design with a driver’s seat, steering wheel, and pedals.

Also, the fully autonomous driving or self-driving feature will not be available, but the car will be able to use a self-driving mode on highways. It will offer enough autonomy for users to play games or watch videos on the highway but ask to take control when driving on city streets or through adverse weather. The hands-free tech may debut in North America and expand to other regions over time.

Apple Car was originally planned to cost over $120,000, but it will now cost under $100,000 as the company has scaled down the features and technologies for the vehicle.

Currently, the company has not finalized a design for the Apple Car, but it plans to have it finalized by the end of next year, i.e., 2023. After that, the list of features for the vehicle is set to be completed by 2024, and the testing will begin sometime in 2025 ahead of the planned launch of the Apple Car in 2026.

Apple reportedly began developing the Apple Car roughly eight years ago. Since the inception of the project, Apple’s struggles have been imminent when it has come to developing a self-driving EV, ranging from technical difficulties to leadership changes. The project has seen its fair share of trouble along the eight-year journey.

According to a detailed report by Wayne Ma, a journalist from The Information, the brand has now reportedly released information regarding the design of the car. The latest design features four seats facing each other for easier interpersonal communication amongst the riders of the EV.  Also, the roof of the car has a curved design, resembling the roof of a Volkswagen Beetle.

Apple’s designers are reportedly experimenting with a trunk that automatically raises for simple access and lowers when not in use. The designers are also claimed to have talked about creating enormous screens for the seatbacks that can be adjusted up and down. Jony Ive, a former Apple design leader, is still working on the project as a consultant. According to reports, he told the Apple Car team that they “should lean toward the weirdness of the vehicle’s design and not try to hide its sensors” after he left Apple in 2019 to start the independent design business LoveFrom.

Wayne Ma also revealed that Apple hopes to get a waiver from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration so that it can introduce cars without steering and brake pedals. The Apple automobile team is rumored to have created a number of demo videos for self-driving technology to show Tim Cook and other executives. The team also gave Cook a test drive in a self-driving vehicle in the Santa Clara Valley, which “autonomously conducted a DMV self-driving road test to demonstrate its capabilities.”

It’s interesting to note that the story asserts Apple has even considered introducing a feature that would allow passengers to sleep while the car drives itself.

Apple is currently trying to figure out ways to hide the latest Apple Car prototype while it is being tested in public as the product steadily approaches its launch. However, the vehicle’s release won’t probably happen for several years.

Apple’s team of employees working on the company’s very first electric vehicle has been dissolved temporarily, but must be reorganized within the next three to six months in order to meet the 2025 mass production goals, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said with a tweet on Tuesday.

The company’s EV plans have reportedly faced numerous setbacks already since its advent way back in 2014 (via MacRumors). More recently, in November 2021, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple was accelerating work on its EV, aiming for one with full self-driving capabilities. He also said that Apple was aiming for a 2025 launch but that could be delayed due to development challenges.

The Apple Car project team has been dissolved for some time. The reorganization within the next three to six months is necessary to achieve the goal of mass production by 2025.

Kevin Lynch, Apple’s VP of technology, has been said to be reassigned to head the Apple Car project in September 2021. This comes following another report that said that John Giannandrea was overseeing development in 2021, indicating that there has been a change in leadership.

Foxconn and Luxshare are rumored to be the top candidates to produce the Apple Car, according to a report by DigiTimes Asia. The two firms are two key manufacturers for Apple products and have already entered the EV market, aiming for a strong manufacturing capability by the time Apple is done with the development stage.

Apple Car rumors have been doing rounds for years now. Although it is not expected to debut anytime soon, it looks like the company is finally speeding things up to meet the 2025 deadline.

Apple has been making the rounds for its upcoming product that hasn’t even been officially confirmed by the technology giant — Apple Car. The electric vehicle from the company, which is being developed as Project Titan, has cropped up in news several times.

Now, yet another news related to the Apple Car has surfaced online and this time it is related to a patent that the Cupertino-based company filed and has now been granted.

The US Patent and Trademark Office has granted a new patent to Apple which appears to be a sunroof technology for the upcoming electric car from the company. While it doesn’t explicitly confirm that the technology is for the car but it doesn’t need any confirmation as sunroof technology is not something that can be used on an iPhone or iPad or even Mac.

The document also shows various drawings of what appears to be a car’s roof. Some of the diagrams indicate how the sunroof would move while some showcase the mechanism within the sunroof.

Further, an abstract in the patent application reads: “a vehicle includes a roof, an opening in the roof, and a window that is located forward from the opening.” This effectively confirms that it is for the car. The patent reveals a variable opacity glass which means that the user will be able to control the transparency of the sunroof.

A recent report had claimed that the upcoming Apple Car, which will be an electric vehicle with support for a fully autonomous self-driving feature, could debut by 2025. The project is facing several issues but the top-most problem is the company’s inability to retain people who are working on this project.

Reportedly, Apple’s upcoming Car project has been bedevilling the company’s engineers, and as more engineers leave the company the project is expected to see a lot of uncertainties. Although for a Californian giant like Apple, it is swift to bring new employees, still seeing multiple people leave the company does show the coercion around the fully autonomous car project.

Apple’s most-awaited self-driving electric car was in the news a few months ago and now once again, the upcoming vehicle from the technology giant, which has not yet been officially announced, is in the news, hinting at the Apple Car roadmap.

A new report coming from Bloomberg, citing sources aware of the development, claims that the upcoming Apple Car — an electric vehicle with support for a fully autonomous self-driving feature — will debut by 2025.

It is being reported that this Apple Car project from the Cupertino-based tech giant, which is called Project Titan, being headed by Kevin Lynch, will be a fully automated self-driving offering without any pedals or steering.

Earlier, it was claimed that the company was stuck between two different developments paths — a traditional EV with some enhanced driver-assist features, or a more sophisticated EV capable of truly autonomous driving with no input from its passengers. It now seems that the technology giant has chosen the latter option.

However, there’s a possibility of Apple adding some kind of an emergency takeover mode for the car, which is still being discussed internally. It is said to have open-concept seating and a larger iPad-like infotainment system.

The company has still not locked in the business model for this project. The Bloomberg report hints about Apple considering to have its own fleet of self-driving cars operating like Uber or Lyft instead of selling the cars to individuals. However, it is more likely that Apple will sell its car to individuals.

Apple is apparently in talks with another established automobile maker for the production of its self branded car. The company could strike a deal with Toyota to make the Apple Car, with production starting by 2024.

According to a DigiTimes report (Via MacRumors), representatives from the Cupertino based giant have apparently met up with South Korea’s SK Group and LG Electronics and are now looking at Japan’s Toyota as the next potential partner. For those unaware, the iPhone maker has been rumored to be working on its self branded car for a while now. But its a major shift from making consumer electronics to a whole vehicle, and thus, the brand is looking to partner with established firms  to get access to a new supply chain.

Interestingly, recent reports have also revealed that the company aims to develop its own EV batteries in the US that aims to “radically” reduce the cost of batteries and increase the range of the electric vehicle. Furthermore, the report also added that the company is aiming on starting production for its self branded Apple Car by the year 2024, which is in line with previous reports that stated the same year for production. Apple has been working on its self-driving car technology and the Cupertino-based tech giant was recently in the news related to efforts in forming partnerships with automakers for the Apple Car, but nothing has been materialized yet.

Now, we are hearing news about two incidents where Apple Cars with self-driving technology were involved in an accident, according to the report from MacRumors based on the data from California DMV.

Both the reported incidents happened last month, i.e. in the month of August 2021. The first incident occurred in San Diego, California in the Hillcrest area on August 19th. The Lexus RX 450h was stopped in traffic and was hit by a Hyundai. The accident was described as minor with no injuries.

The second accident happened on August 23 in Cupertino, California, near the Apple Park campus. The vehicle with Apple’s self-driving equipment was in manual mode and it was stopped in traffic when it was rear-ended by a Subaru Outback.

It’s noteworthy that in both of these incidents, Apple Car with the self-driving technology or the person operating the vehicle was not at fault. The technology has been in testing mode since 2017 and this is the first time since 2019 that we are hearing about Apple Car being involved in an accident and interestingly, both the incidents happened last month.

According to the report from California DMV, Apple’s Lexus SUVs that are equipped with self-driving technology, have traversed more than 18,000 miles in 2020, which represents a steep increase compared to previous years.

As noted above, Apple has been testing its self-driving software since early 2017, using the Lexus RX 450h vehicles. Autonomous driving technology is one of the long-term projects for the tech giant and based on the rumors, Apple is expected to launch its first vehicle with self-driving technology in a few years.

A Patent filed by Apple has revealed that Apple car owners can authorize other users to drive the car without releasing the keys. Indeed, there have been several Patents relating to the Apple car covering a wide array of concepts and components that have been filed.

Obviously, the Apple car will not need physical keys as it would be operated via an iPhone. So the car will have digital keys which would allow for key sharing. According to the patent documents, the system will allow someone else to drive your car without the owner divulging critical and confidential information.

To be clear, the new patent is not about sharing passcodes or critical access data that can be snooped and used by third parties. According to Apple, if access is controlled by secret data, the owner must communicate the secret data to the individual which may be insecure. Apple has instead explored a token-based framework powered by an iPhone using an app from the iPhone. Similar to a one-time passcode, it may only be used once and access to the car will be restricted after the use.

There are still some fine details lacking for this concept of transferred digital access.

What happens when a user who has been given one-time access to the car parks may be to go for groceries? Will he be able to restart the car?

Although we are still in the dark on the date of the unveiling of the Apple car, some sources claim 2025 as the launch date. Apple has however not made any definitive statement yet on the matter.

The rumors about an Apple car in the making have been on for some time, although there had not been any definitive statement or even a tipster’s leak that indicates that the famed Apple car is ready to move out of the drawing board. Apple has however continued to expand its fleet of self-driving electric vehicles under testing in California. The news emanating from South Korea is that Apple has had some discussions with its business partners and possible producers of EV components in Korea.

The news was highlighted in the Korea Times and specifically mentioned that Apple had talks outside the iPhone engagements it has had in recent times with some of its partners in Korea. Some of the companies mentioned in the talks were LG Electronics, SK Innovation, and Hanwa. Note that SK Innovation is the EV-battery-making arm of the SK Group.

Samsung has also had talks previously with several automakers, and it is believed that further talks took place with Hyundai/Kia, Nissan, and a few other automakers. No public statement is however available to ascertain whether indeed talks were held, as none of the companies mentioned have put out any statement debunking or affirming the claim.

It would be really interesting to see Apple come up with its own car. Little is also known about the purpose of the electric vehicle development by Apple. We cannot say whether the car is for commercial production or something else. If indeed Apple is pursuing the development of electric vehicles, there are no timelines or milestones available for the project. We do not know whether we are close to the eventual launch of the Apple car.

The LG and Magna automotive joint venture is apparently close to signing a deal for the production of the Apple Car. Dubbed “LG Magna e-Powertrain”, the firms are reportedly ‘very near’ to signing a deal with the iPhone maker for its first electric vehicle’s production.

According to TheKoreaTimes report (Via 9to5Mac), the contract would reportedly have LG and Magna International venture manufacture the initial rounds of Apple Car production. At the moment, the Cupertino based giant is expecting to launch its own electric vehicle by the year 2025. To produce its EVs, the company might cooperate with the LG and Magna partnership, which is expected to be completed later this year and will have the iPhone maker as their primary customer.

Earlier this year, we had reported on various rumors and reports regarding the Apple’s first electric car. We had also reported on potential production partners, which included Hyundai and Kia, with a reported valuation of 4 billion US Dollars. Although, this was later confirmed to not be the case as the discussions ended back in February 2021. From what we know so far, the car will solely be branded under Apple’s banner. Meaning, the production partners will only act as links in the supply chain, similar to its partnership with Foxconn and others for the iPhone. This is the reason why Kia and Hyundai backed out of the deal initially.

For those unaware, Apple has been rumored to be working on its own electric vehicle since 2015. The Apple Car has been surfacing on numerous reports and rumors recently. It is the company’s iteration of an electric car, which will arrive cutting edge technology. Now, a new patent has suggested that the EV may arrive with infrared headlights to improve visibility.

According to an AutoEvolution report, the Cupertino based giant is working on infrared headlights to offer better visibility to the driver by as much as three times compared to conventional headlights. Furthermore, the brand also aims to help its autonomous car be able to see in total darkness, and by extension, detect obstacles, hazards, and other hurdles on the road. In the recent patent, the company describes a complex night vision system that would be used in its automobile.

Its visibility system would use visible light, near infrared (NIR), and long wave infrared (LWIR) sensors as well to greatly improve visibility in low light scenarios. The patent states that “Having a limited effective range (e.g., about 60 meters) for detecting and or classifying objects can reduce safety and/or reduce the speed at which the vehicle can travel safely.” Notably, Apple states that it can achieve an effective visible range of up to 200 meters from the vehicle.

This range would allow the autonomous car to detect any potential hazard earlier, which would give it more time to make better decisions while reducing the risk of accidents as well. Keep in mind, this is still a patent and we have no way of confirming if the company is actually working on such a system or that it would be included in its upcoming Apple Car. Apple might be running its old faithful iPhone strategy for its upcoming car. This strategy basically involves the company designing the product in house, sourcing its own components, and finally, working with contract manufacturers to assemble it for sale.

According to a Bloomberg report, the Cupertino based giant might be moving to adopt this ‘iPhone Strategy’ for its first automobile as well. In other words, the company might choose to work with a lesser known contract manufacturer to build its Apple Car. The news arrives after talks with established automobile brands have stalled at the moment. For the company, there are three primary options for building its car, which are either partnering with an existing car maker, build its own facilities, or teaming up with contract manufacturers like Foxconn.

For those unaware, Apple had recently been in talks with known car maker, Hyundai, and its subsidiary, for a potential deal regarding its first car. But it seems like the deal is off the table as of right now. If it had gone through, the company would likely develop an autonomous system for the vehicle, along with the exterior and interior designs and on board technology, while the automobile brand would be responsible for the final production of the car.

In simpler terms, this would effectively have Apple ask a company to make a car but remove its brand. The California DMV has released new data that gives insights into Apple’s efforts as far the company’s ambitious Apple Car autonomous driving vehicle is concerned, reports MacRumors. As per the data, the self-driving test vehicle from Apple drove 18,805 miles in California last year, which is more than double compared to 2019.

Additionally, the report also mentions that the company reported 130 disengagements in the last year, which also indicates a noticeable improvement in the number of miles driven before requiring a disengagement from self-driving. Based on the data, Apple’s cars experienced disengagement every 144.6 miles.

For those unfamiliar, disengagements refer to a situation when the car stops self-driving and the human driver takes over. Further, it mentions that Apple reported no accidents with its self-driving test vehicles for the year 2020. The last collision reported by Apple for the self-driving car was in 2019.

Apple was recently in talks with Hyundai and it was reported that the automaker’s sub-unit Kia will be making the Apple Car. The deal was expected to get closed in March with Apple investing billion in Kia. However, a couple of days ago, it was confirmed that the talks with Apple and Hyundai have ended without the deal. In a regulatory filing, Hyundai and Kia said the two firms had received requests from multiple outfits about self-driving electric car development, but no decision had been made as the talks were at the early stages.

A new report has revealed that Apple and Kia are nearing a deal that would have the former make a 3.6 billion US Dollar investment into the latter for the manufacturing of electric vehicles in the future.

According to a DongA report (Via GSMArena), the Cupertino based giant is apparently planning on working with the Hyundai subsidiary, Kia, for its production site in Georgia, US. Reportedly, the iPhone maker is expecting that its large investment production of electric vehicles will begin by the year 2024. Apple targets on reaching 100,000 cars being produced per year, with future expansion growing the number to 400,000 units per year.

The report arrives from sources close to the matter, which have stated that Apple is leaning towards Hyundai as its primary partner to enter into car production. The main reason for this is due to the automobile giant’s electric vehicle platform, E-GMP, along with its production facilities in the US and the supposed ability to begin production by the year 2024. Kia will be responsible for handling the production and manufacturing process.

Earlier this week, Apple was granted a new patent that was related to its upcoming Project Titan. The new patent was for technology related to assisting the driver’s visibility to help in poor weather conditions.

According to a PatentlyApple report, the Cupertino based giant was recently granted the patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office, which is related to its Project Titan. The document in question is regarding a new visibility system that is designed to assist drivers in viewing key road signs. This would be especially useful in bad weather conditions like heavy snow, thick fogs or smogs, and even dust. In driving, visibility is a very crucial aspect, which heavily ties into safety as well.

Thus, in low visibility conditions, a system that helps drivers in seeing other vehicles on the road or other hazards could reduce the risk of accidents or any other incidents. As per the patent, the vehicle with this system would be able to lower the risk of collision by utilizing an additional system that features radar systems, vision based cameras, and even light detection and ranging through LiDAR technology. Since poor weather conditions could also affect the reliability of the visibility system, like water vapor that can absorb or scatter light, improving detectability is paramount to such systems.

The patent granted to Apple covers a retroreflector system that includes a “plurality of retroreflectors.” In other words, the retroreflectors are configured to reflect a radar signal, a light, a LiDAR signal, or any other type of signal to a respective signal source. This might even have the sensor being partially embedded in an outer panel of the vehicle, which can be configured to allow the radar signal to pass through to the plurality of retroreflectors. While both the companies are expected to reach an agreement in March related to the development of Apple Car, information about the project keeps surfacing online. In the latest news (via Gizmodo), a longtime Apple analyst says that the company has picked Hyundai’s E-GMP platform as the base for its upcoming electric car.

Hyundai claims that the E-GMP platform is designed for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and offers increased modularity and safety. At the same time, it also tries to maximize performance, driving range, and interior room for passengers and luggage.

The company further adds that high-performance cars based on the E-GMP platform could go from 0 to 60mph in less than 3.5 seconds, with top speeds of around 160 mph. It can deliver more than 310 miles on a single charge and the new charging system goes up to 350kw, allowing E-GMP-based vehicles to recharge up to 80% battery in just 18 minutes.

For those who are unaware, Hyundai had announced the E-GMP platform last year and it is the core architecture for the automaker’s next-generation battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including Ioniq 5 and Kia’s first dedicated BEV expected to launch this year.

Both the companies are hoping to produce around 100,000 vehicles in 2024 and the plan is to eventually reach the production goal of 400,000 vehicles annually. It is said that the “beta version” of the Apple Car could go into testing as soon as next year.

The statement by Hyundai is instructive, as the company had, on several occasions, refused to comment on any speculation surrounding work on an Apple Car.

However, tipsters have continued to predict that the Apple car project is still alive, and progressing with its development. This month, a raft of reports had mentioned Apple and its progress in developing the Apple car. Some reports have also projected that the car will be ready as early as 2024.

A prototype may be unveiled in 2022, according to another report, while it was even mentioned that the production plant will be Kia’s factory in Georgia. It should be noted that the Kia brand is owned by Hyundai Motor Corporation.

Seemingly, the wave of rumours and leaks concerning the Apple car could indicate that we may be approaching a big announcement from Apple in terms of the development of the much expected electric smart vehicle.

Now, in the latest development, Hyundai Motor has confirmed that the company is in talks with Apple. Confirming this, the company said that “we understand that Apple is in discussion with a variety of global automakers, including Hyundai Motor. As the discussion is at its early stage, nothing has been decided.”

Prior to the confirmation from Hyundai, a Korean publication Hankyung had reported that the automaker will help Apple in producing electric vehicles as well as developing special batteries for the upcoming car. Also, a part of the development of components for the car will take place at Hyundai Motors’ facilities in the United States.

Apple has been working on a Smart Car system for a few years now under Project Titan, reports about which started surfacing online again this month related to the new battery technology and the mass production.

Recently, it was reported that the Apple Car could enter the mass production phase by the end of 2024. However, it seems that the timeline has been changed. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now stated (via 9to5Mac) that the most realistic timeline is 2028 or later and added that the market is too bullish about Apple Car.

For his claim about the delayed launch, Kuo gives three reasons — uncertainty about the timing, uncertainty about the supplier and vehicle’s specifications, and uncertainty about the competitiveness in the EV market.

For those who are unaware, the autonomous car project of Apple has been in the works since 2014 when the company started the design of its own electric car from the scratch. However, the project struggled to proceed smoothly and at one point Apple decided to just focus on the software part of the technology.

But, after the return of Doug Field returned to Apple from Tesla a couple of years back, he started overseeing the project and revamped the team. And now, it seems that the company is making significant development in this field.

Kuo also notes that while Apple has several strengths, it doesn’t always work out for the company the way they expect. To highlight this point, he gives an example of Apple HomePod, which has struggled to get market share in the smart speaker space.

It’s also noteworthy that Apple is currently catching-up with the Electric Vehicle or Smart Car field and there are several companies that are in advanced stages of technology development or have started working on the commercial car.

A new report from Reuters claims that Apple is going forward with its self-driving car technology and is planning to start production by 2024. And it’s not just the car but the company is also working on a “next level” battery technology.

For those who are unaware, the autonomous car project of Apple, called Project Titan, has been in the works since 2014 and the company started the design of its own electric car from the scratch.

However, the project struggled to proceed smoothly and at one point, Apple decided to just focus on the software part of the technology. But a couple of years back, Doug Field returned to Apple from Tesla to oversee the project and revamped the team.

It seems that the development of this project has been significant enough for the company to build commercial vehicles. Reuters adds that Apple’s goal is to make a personal vehicle for the mass market while its competitors like Google‘s Waymo is building robo-taxis to carry passengers for a driverless ride-hailing service.

The report also sheds light on the battery that could be used in the car. A person aware of the development says that a new battery design could “radically” reduce the cost of batteries and at the same time, increase the vehicle’s range.

It is not yet clear which company would assemble the Apple-branded car. There’s also a possibility that Apple may decide to go ahead with the software part and integrate its technology into a car made by a traditional automaker.

The Apple Car could be arriving soon, as a new report suggests that the company’s long rumored electric vehicle could possibly launch in the third quarter of 2021, two years ahead of its schedule.

According to EconomicDailyNews from Taiwan, Apple might be launching its first automobile next year. The report claims that manufacturers and suppliers of the company in Taiwan are preparing to ramp up production of “Apple Care” components as early as the second quarter of next year, as per a MacRumors report. Apparently, the company has already begun testing dozens of prototypes on the road in California, US.

Back in 2017, Apple received a permit from California’s DMV to test its self driving cars. This was first spotted on SUV from another brand that was equipped with its LiDAR technology. While various reports had pinned the Apple Car launch date around 2023 and 2025, the latest report arrives a whole two years earlier than previous expectations. The Taiwanese agency cited an unnamed director from a major Taiwanese manufacturer as its source.

This director stated that Apple is targetting a September 2021 launch, although, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now. Notably, the schedule shifting earlier is highly unlikely considering the company faced delays due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
