A day before Christmas, iQOO confirmed to launch the iQOO 9 series on January 5 in China. Today, one of the brand executives revealed that the company will continue its partnership with BMW M Motorsport for the new generation of smartphones as well. Hence, there will be a special edition, which has been already exposed by the first-look teaser.

According to Justin Jian, product manager of iQOO, the iQOO 9 series will have a BMW M Motorsport Limited Edition like the previous generations. At the same time, he also says that the new logo of the high-performance car manufacturer is ‘really cool’ and he is not wrong at all.

Anyway, this logo will not be embossed on the special edition smartphone just like its predecessors. But it will be found in promotional materials. Further, although the brand has not confirmed it yet, the special edition will be most likely based on iQOO 9 Pro, similar to older models.        

Since we are still a little over a week away from the launch, we expect to learn more about the iQOO 9 series in the coming days via certifications, leaks, and teasers. So far, we know that at least, one of the phones will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

There is still more than a week of waiting before the iQOO 8 series arrives and that is more than enough time for more leaks to surface. Today, a new poster has appeared online and it reveals that iQOO’s partnership with BMW is still on as the iQOO 8 Pro will be getting a BMW custom edition.

The poster was shared on Weibo by @Bald Panda and it shows the iQOO 8 Pro in the same BMW M Motorsport colors that the iQOO 7 Legend was announced earlier this year. The poster also shows the iQOO 8 will have a black carbon fiber variant too.

Other details of the phone shown in the image are a curved screen with a centered punch hole and a triple camera array shaped like an “L”. The poster also mentions the phone has a 2K screen, support for 120W fast wired charging, dual primary rear cameras, and a Snapdragon 888 Plus processor.

Yesterday, we reported some of the specs of the standard iQOO 8 such as a flat display but it is an AMOLED panel with a centered unch hole too. It will also have support for 120W fast wired charging and be powered by the same Snapdragon 888 Plus processor.

The iQOO 8 series will be announced on August 17 in China.

In the first quarter of 2019, Vivo introduced a new sub-brand called iQOO to offer “flagship-killer” smartphones. The young brand is only over a year old but it has officially become a partner of BMW M Motorsport for the 2020 DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) season.

BBK Electronics’ brands are well-known for sponsoring a variety of sporting events for marketing. Vivo was the title sponsor of IPL (Indian Premier League), a popular cricket league in the country from 2015. Unfortunately, the company had to drop the partnership for the 2020 season due to rising tensions between India and China.

Additionally, the company also scrapped its partnership with the NBA last year due to the Hong Kong protests. But it will still continue to sponsor FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Though Vivo has lost sponsorships for two of the most popular sporting events within a year, its sub-brand iQOO signs its first-ever sponsorship for an international sporting event.

The iQOO partnership with BMW M Motorsport is only for the 2020 DTM league. On this occasion, the brand may launch a limited edition iQOO 5 smartphone scheduled to launch on August 17.

This device will be the brand’s first handset to support the recently announced 120W FlashCharge technology. On the other hand, the German automaker will use “iQOO BMW M4 DTM” car in the 2020 DTM league.

iQOO is yet to enter Europe. With the new BMW partnership, the brand seems to be laying the foundation for launching officially in the region.
