<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/dji/">DJI</a> has reached a surprisingly dominant position in Japan’s video camera market, with new sales data showing the company now controls more than 70% of the segment.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-739620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/maxresdefault.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to BCN Ranking data, DJI held a massive 72.5% share of Japan’s video camera market, marking the highest level the company has reached so far. For comparison, rival Insta360 reportedly accounted for around 12.5% during the same period.</p>

<p>A big part of that momentum appears to be coming from DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup, especially the newly launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/16/dji-osmo-pocket-4-launch-specs-price-one-inch-camera-sensor/">Osmo Pocket 4</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/11/dji-osmo-pocket-4p-launching-globally-on-may-14/">Pocket 4P</a>. The compact gimbal camera only went on sale in late April, but it quickly climbed to the top of the sales rankings in Japan.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="619" height="457" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/647aeae3-76fe-434a-b11c-c93328fae8e0.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-739623" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/647aeae3-76fe-434a-b11c-c93328fae8e0.webp 619w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/647aeae3-76fe-434a-b11c-c93328fae8e0-300x221.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/647aeae3-76fe-434a-b11c-c93328fae8e0-569x420.webp 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/647aeae3-76fe-434a-b11c-c93328fae8e0-80x60.webp 80w" sizes="(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px" /></figure></div>

<p>BCN says the standard Osmo Pocket 4 alone captured roughly 21.5% of all video camera sales in the country within just nine days of availability. Several other DJI models, including the Pocket 4P and older Pocket 3, also ranked near the top of the charts.</p>

<p>Interestingly, DJI’s rise seems to be boosting the broader market as well. Overall video camera sales volume in Japan reportedly jumped 158.1% year-over-year in April 2026, while total revenue increased by 135.2%.</p>

<p>The company’s success likely comes down to how well its products fit current content creation trends. Compact cameras with built-in stabilization have become increasingly popular among vloggers, travelers, and social media creators who want better video quality than smartphones without carrying large mirrorless setups.</p>

<p>The Osmo Pocket series in particular has carved out a strong niche by combining stabilized footage, simple controls, and relatively compact pricing in a device small enough to fit in a pocket.</p>

<p>DJI is still best known globally for drones, but over the past few years the company has been steadily expanding into creator-focused imaging products. The latest sales figures from Japan suggest that strategy is paying off in a major way, especially in a market traditionally dominated by long-established camera brands.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/insta360/">Insta360</a> has clarified the pricing situation surrounding its upcoming Luna Ultra camera gimbal after early leaks sparked some concern online over the expected cost.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-738453" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HH6CXfmXcAEy28l-1024x576-1-747x420.webp 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Earlier, tipster @DigitalChatStation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/12/insta360-luna-ultra-pricing-leak-raises-eyebrow/">claimed</a> the device would launch at ¥5,299 for the body-only version and ¥6,499 for the full kit. Those numbers quickly drew attention because they would place the Luna Ultra far above typical consumer gimbal pricing in China.</p>

<p>In response, Insta360 CEO Liu Jingkang <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5298293378908884">stepped</a> in to explain that the leaked figures actually referred to overseas pricing converted into RMB. According to him, international pricing is higher due to cost issues, and the Chinese pricing will be noticeably lower. He even joked that the company “wouldn’t dare” sell it at those prices in China.</p>

<p>That clarification comes as interest in the Luna Ultra continues to grow ahead of its official launch. From everything revealed so far, the device seems aimed more at serious creators rather than casual users.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/13/insta360-luna-ultra-surfaces-in-detailed-promo-images-ahead-of-launch/">Luna Ultra</a> combines a three-axis mechanical gimbal with a Leica-branded dual-camera setup. The main camera uses a 1-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, alongside a separate 3x optical telephoto lens. Insta360 is also promising support for 6x lossless zoom, 12x hybrid zoom, 6K 50fps recording, 4K 120fps video, Dolby Vision, and 10-bit i-Log recording.</p>

<p>One of the more interesting design choices is the detachable front handle. It attaches magnetically and can also function as a wireless remote. The module includes a 2-inch OLED display, joystick controls for the gimbal, zoom buttons, and recording controls, allowing creators to control the camera remotely while mounted in different positions.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="637" height="262" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-15-125035.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-738401" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-15-125035.png 637w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-15-125035-300x123.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px" /></figure></div>

<p>The timing is also notable because the Luna Ultra is expected to compete directly with products like the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P. Official China pricing still has not been announced, but the CEO’s comments strongly suggest the domestic version will land at a much more aggressive price than the original rumors implied.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/dji/">DJI</a> is about to launch the most ambitious Pocket-series camera it has made so far. The company has officially confirmed the global debut of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/09/dji-osmo-pocket-4p-global-launch-confirmed-official-design-revealed/">Osmo Pocket 4P</a>, scheduled for May 14 during the Cannes Film Festival in France. Pre-orders are already live through DJI’s website, and early hands-on units have started appearing through Chinese media outlets and creators ahead of the announcement.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-737959" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-1920x1080.png 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HIB79TbWEAAQic8-1.png 2004w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The biggest change this time is the camera setup itself. For the first time in the Pocket lineup, DJI is adding a second lens. The Pocket 4P combines the familiar 1-inch primary sensor from the standard <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/16/dji-osmo-pocket-4-launch-specs-price-one-inch-camera-sensor/">Osmo Pocket 4</a> with a dedicated 3x telephoto camera, reportedly sitting around a 70mm equivalent focal length.</p>

<p>That may not sound like a huge upgrade at first, but it actually changes the way the Pocket camera can be used. Older Pocket models were mostly limited to wide-angle shooting, which worked fine for vlogging but wasn’t always ideal for portraits, interviews, or tighter cinematic framing. Adding a telephoto lens makes the Pocket 4P noticeably more flexible without forcing creators to rely heavily on digital zoom. Reports also mention a variable aperture system (f/1.7-f/2.8) for the main camera, alongside up to 12x hybrid zoom and around 6x “lossless” zoom depending on the shooting mode.</p>

<p>Outside of the camera hardware, DJI seems to be refining the rest of the experience rather than redesigning everything. The Pocket 4P reportedly supports 10-bit D-Log recording, upgraded ActiveTrack 7.0 tracking, and a larger 2.5-inch rotating touchscreen with brightness reaching 1000 nits. Battery capacity is also said to increase to around 2000mAh for longer recording sessions.</p>

<p>And of course, the signature 3-axis mechanical stabilization system remains one of the main selling points. DJI also appears to be pushing ecosystem integration more heavily this generation, with tighter compatibility expected between the Pocket 4P and the company’s microphones, drones, and creator accessories.</p>

<p>Pricing hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but the Pocket 4P is expected to sit above the standard Pocket 4 in DJI’s lineup. Availability in the US is still uncertain as well, since some recent DJI launches have faced regulatory complications there.</p>

<p>The Pocket 4P isn’t trying to replace larger mirrorless cameras, but it does seem aimed at creators who want more framing flexibility and better image quality without carrying around a full camera setup all day.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/dji/">DJI</a> is preparing to take the Pocket series in a slightly different direction this year. After several teasers on Chinese social media, the company has now confirmed that the upcoming Osmo Pocket 4P, sometimes shortened to Pocket 4 Pro, will launch globally. And unlike previous Pocket models, this one is focusing heavily on zoom and more flexible shooting options.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-737788" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957-746x420.png 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Screenshot-2026-05-09-204957.png 1148w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>The biggest addition is a dedicated telephoto camera</strong></p>

<p>The Pocket 4P keeps the same 1-inch primary sensor introduced on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/16/dji-osmo-pocket-4-launch-specs-price-one-inch-camera-sensor/">standard Osmo Pocket 4</a>, but adds a secondary 3x telephoto lens to the setup. That may not sound revolutionary on paper, but for a compact gimbal camera like this, it’s actually a pretty meaningful change.</p>

<p>One of the biggest limitations of previous Pocket models was that everything had to be shot through a single wide-angle lens. It worked well for vlogging, but portraits, tighter framing, and cinematic shots often relied heavily on digital zoom or cropping. The new telephoto camera changes that.</p>

<p>Early hands-on clips from China suggest the telephoto lens sits around a 70mm equivalent focal length and may use a fairly large 1/1.5-inch sensor. Reports also mention up to 6x “lossless” zoom and 12x maximum zoom overall, which should make the camera much more versatile for travel videos, interviews, and street-style shooting.</p>

<p>Outside of the second camera, the Pocket 4P seems to build directly on the standard Pocket 4. That model already introduced a few major upgrades compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/27/dji-osmo-pocket-3-launched/">Pocket 3</a>, including 240fps recording at 4K, upgraded ActiveTrack, and a brighter rotating display. The upcoming Pocket 4P keeps all of that while adding the extra telephoto hardware. And of course, the signature 3-axis mechanical gimbal is still here, which remains one of the biggest reasons people buy Pocket cameras in the first place.</p>

<p>DJI has been teasing the device with the slogan “See More, Tell More,” which is honestly a pretty accurate summary of what this model seems designed for.</p>

<p>The rollout appears to start in China before expanding globally later. DJI pages for the device have already surfaced in markets like Canada and Mexico. Availability in the US is less clear, though. Similar to some recent DJI products, the Pocket 4P is reportedly facing regulatory hurdles tied to FCC authorization, and at least for now, it doesn’t appear on DJI’s US website.</p>
