Last year, Samsung introduced a new software policy of at least four years of security updates for almost all smartphones and tablets. But the company did not clarify the frequency of updates. Now, we know that for some of the budget devices.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Ax0s series of smartphones in 2019. The lineup includes a total of five devices, namely Galaxy A10s, Galaxy A20s, Galaxy A30s, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy 70s.

According to SamMobile, the last four models have been now demoted to biannual security updates. Whereas, the first phone was already demoted in September.

All these handsets have one thing in common. They debuted with One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie and they have received two major One UI updates in the form of One UI 2.x (Android 10) and One UI 3.x (Android 11).

On top of that, these phones are also eligible for four years of security updates. But now, as the phones have become a little older than two years, they have been pushed to biannual security updates from quarterly security updates.

This means for the next two years, they will be only receiving four security updates in total. Going by this, we can expect the similarly positioned handsets to get only biannual security updates once they receive their last major One UI update.

The Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of smartphones have been a great success for the company, selling millions of units globally. However, a new report has suggested that some of these models might be suffering from a mysterious bug.

Apparently, a number of users of certain Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of handsets have claimed that these smartphones suffer from a peculiar issue that causes their devices to freeze up and restart automatically. According to SamMobile, owners of the Galaxy M30s, Galaxy M31, Galaxy M31s, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy A51 smartphones in India have recently come forward about suffering from this issue.

As per the Galaxy A and M users, their handsets tend to freeze up and hang often. Furthermore, the devices are also plagued by frequent auto restarts as well. These issues are a major nuisance to the users who also claimed that their devices have also gotten stuck in a boot loop before and don’t go past the South Korean tech giant’s logo at the startup. Notably, some users that went to Samsung service centers have reportedly been told that they might need to have the motherboards of their smartphones replaced.

This would cost them over 100 US Dollars. The Galaxy M and Galaxy A series are usually known for their mid range smartphones, which is quite popular in India. So it is understandable that not many would go through with the motherboard replacement for that hefty price of repairs that could just be an underlying issue not discovered by the company yet. Hopefully, the brand can acknowledge this issue that could be affecting a number of other customers and offers a fix, or at least, a free of cost repair.

The Galaxy A50 and the Galaxy A50s were some of the best-selling Samsung smartphones of their time. These handsets debuted with One UI 1.x based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. They were updated up to Android 10-baed One UI 2.5 late last year. Now, the duo has started receiving the One UI 3.1 (Android 11) update.

Samsung had been rolling out Android 11-based One UI 3.0 since December 2020. Soon after the launch of the Galaxy S21 series, the company turned towards delivering One UI 3.1. Hence, certain devices like Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A50s that did not get One UI 3.0 are now directly being updated to One UI 3.1.

The One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy A50 is currently live in India with firmware version A505FDDU7CUBC. The OTA update weighs 1871.38MB in size and bumps up the security patch level to March 2021.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A50s One UI 3.1 update is live in Vietnam. The OTA update comes with firmware version A507FNXXU5DUB6 and March 2021 security patches.

The Android 11 update for both Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A50s should be available in more regions in the coming days. Anyway, users can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check whether their unit has got the update.

After updating its premium smartphone to One UI 2.5, Samsung has begun to roll out the same update with fewer features to its budget devices. Starting with the Galaxy A series, the update has been also extended to the Galaxy M series. Now, Galaxy A50s has become the latest phone to get the new One UI update.

The Galaxy A71 was the first Samsung budget smartphone to receive One UI 2.5. The update was spoon made available for Galaxy A51. Later, even Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31 received it but in the form of One UI Core 2.5

Now, a few days later, the update is also live for Galaxy A50s units in Vietnam with firmware version A507FNXXU5CTK3 (via SamMobile). Apart from bringing new features, the new system update for the handset bumps up the security patch level to November 2020.

Talking about new features, they are exactly the same ones that were delivered to Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71. Hence, the changelog is identical. The only difference is that the build for those two devices came with the October 2020 security patch.

That means we are looking at the features like Network Quality Information Display, Request WiFi Password, Bitmoji stickers as AOD, split keyboard mode in landscape in Samsung Keyboard, enhancements for Pro Video feature, and SOS functionality in the Messages app.

Having said that, this update should be available for users in other regions in the coming days. To check if the OTA build has hit your device, head over to Settings > Software update.

Last month, Samsung had hiked the pricing of its smartphones like Galaxy M21 and Galaxy A50s in the previous month after the government of India confirmed an increase in GST rate. Now, both handsets have received price cut in the country.

With the hike in GST rate, the Galaxy M21 smartphone variants such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage were selling for Rs. 14,222 (~$188) and Rs. 16,329 (~$216), respectively since last month. The 4 GB and 6 GB RAM variants of the M21 have received price cuts now. They are now selling for Rs. 13,199 (~$174) and Rs. 15,499 (~$204), respectively. The Galaxy M21 was made official in March this year.

As far as Galaxy A50s is concerned, the pricing of its 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variants had increased to Rs. 21,070 (~$278) and Rs. 26,900 (~$355), respectively. The new pricings of these models are Rs. 18,599 (~$245) and Rs. 20,651 (~$273). The A50s phone was unveiled in September in India.

The Galaxy M21 and Galaxy A50s are listed with their revised pricings on the official Samsung India online store. The government of India has extended the COVID-19 lockdown period until May 17 in the country. The rumor mill is actively spilling information on the Galaxy A51 smartphone that is expected to go official in Q1 2020. A recent report had revealed that Samsung has started producing the Galaxy A51 in India. A fresh leak has revealed key specifications of the smartphone well of its launch.

Leakster Ishan Agarwal has revealed that the Galaxy A51 is equipped with a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display. The A51 is expected to come equipped with One UI 2.0 based Android 9 Pie OS pre-installed. It could be packed with a 4,000mAh battery. For capturing selfies, it may feature a front camera of 32-megapixel. The primary sensor of the camera setup placed on its rear could be of 48-megapixel.

The Galaxy A51 had appeared on Geekbench benchmarking platform last month. It had revealed that the phone is fueled by Exynos 9611 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Previous reports have revealed that the phone will be hitting the markets in 64 GB and 128 GB storage editions.

The screen of the Galaxy A51 likely to feature a small notch and it is expected to deliver full HD+ resolution. Like the Galaxy A50s, the upcoming Galaxy A51 could be equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy A30s and Galaxy A50s for Indian markets today. The Galaxy A30s is an updated version of the Galaxy A30 that had gone official earlier this year. And the Galaxy A50s is also an updated edition of the Galaxy A50 that went official few months back in the country. These phones have arrived with tall aspect ratio displays, large-sized batteries and triple rear cameras.

Samsung Galaxy A30s Price and Specifications

The Galaxy A30s that comes in sole variant of 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage ai spriced at Rs. 16,999 (~$237). Its color variants are Prims Crush Black, Prims Crush White, Prism Crush Violet and Prism Crush Green.

The Galaxy A30s has a 6.4-inch AMOLED Infinity-U display that offers HD+ resolution and comes integrated with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The Exynos 7904 chipset powers the phone. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery that carries support for 15W rapid charging. The Android 9 Pie OS with One UI skin runs on the device.

The Galaxy A50s has a 6.4-inch S-AMOLED Infinity-V display that offers full HD+ resolution. It also features an in-display fingerprint reader. The Exynos 9610 chipset powers the smartphone. The One UI based Android 9 Pie OS comes preloaded on the device.

For capturing selfies, the Galaxy A50s has an f/2.0 aperture 32-megapixel front camera. The back panel of the phone houses a triple camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel main lens with f/2.0 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and an f/2.2 aperture 5-megapixel depth sensor. The A50s has the same connectivity features that are available on the A30s.

Starting from today, the Galaxy A30s and Galaxy A50s are available for buying through multiple platforms such as Amazon India, Flipkart, Paytm Mall, Samsung’s online store and Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru.

Samsung already launched over 10 Galaxy A-series smartphones this year but it is not done yet. Today, it has announced the Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s smartphones, slight upgrades to the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A30 which were released this year.

Galaxy A50s

The Galaxy A50s keeps the 6.4-inch Infinity-U Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy A50 including the in-display fingerprint scanner. However, the selfie camera has now been upgraded from 25MP to 32MP but still has an f/2.0 aperture.

It also keeps the Exynos 9610 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The triple rear cameras is now a 48MP + 8MP ultrawide + 5MP depth combo.

The Galaxy A50s features a redesigned back slightly similar to the diamond-back design of the Realme 1. There is a 4000mAh battery under the hood along with 15W fast charging. The phone’s dimensions are the same as that of the Galaxy A50 but it weighs a little more at 169 grams.

It comes in Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Violet, and Prism Crush Green.

Galaxy A30s

The Galaxy A30s also keeps the 6.4-inch AMOLED display of the Galaxy A30 but the resolution has been reduced from FHD+ to HD+ (1560 x 720) and the display type is Infinity-V and not Infinity-U. While the downgrade in resolution is a bummer, there is now an in-display fingerprint scanner underneath the screen.

There is an Exynos 7904 processor under the hood paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage with MicroSD card support.

There is a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera just like the Galaxy A30 but the back is now home to triple rear cameras – a 25MP f/1.7 primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. There is a 4000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging.

The Galaxy A30s will also be available in Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Violet, and Prism Crush Green. However, just like the A50s, the price and availability of the Galaxy A30s have not yet been revealed.

In February, Samsung had launched the Galaxy A50 mid-range smartphone. The handset is available with a price tag of 349 euros in European markets. In the first half of 2019, Samsung has launched Galaxy A10, A20, A30, A40, A50, A60, A70 and A80 smartphones. Recent reports have revealed that the South Korean company will be releasing new versions of the A-series in the latter half of 2019. A new Samsung phone with model number SM-A507FN is rumored to be in works. It is speculated to debut in the market as Galaxy A50s. The arrival of the phone seems to be close at hand as it has been spotted on Geekbench and AnTuTu benchmarking platforms. Different variants of the rumored Galaxy A50s has also received approval from Wi-Fi Alliance body.

Alleged Galaxy A50s on Geekbench and AnTuTu

On Geekbench, the SM-A507FN has scored 1685 in single-core test and 5446 in multi-core test. The handset is loaded with Android 9 Pie OS. The Exynos 9610 chipset that includes a 1.57 GHz octa-core processor fuels the smartphone. It comes with up to 4 GB of RAM.

The AnTuTu listing of the SM-A507FN also confirms that it is fueled by Exynos 9610 chipset, 4 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS. The size of the display of the phone is not mentioned on AnTuTu. It carries support for full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The handset has an internal storage of 64 GB. It has recorded an average benchmarking score of 151,136.

The Wi-Fi Alliance certification body has approved two new listings for SM-A561F and SM-A562F. The listings that were first spotted by MySmartPrice reveals that the handset carries support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac. These could be the two variants of the rumored Galaxy A50s phone. No other details on the smartphone are available yet.

All the specs of the purported Galaxy A50s that have appeared so far are identical with Galaxy A50 handset. The A50 that has a 25-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera setup and a front-facing camera of 25-megapixel was recently benchmarked on DxOMark with a decent score of 83. Probably, the Galaxy A50s could be arriving with improved camera capabilities.

The Galaxy A50 has a full HD+ 6.4-inch S-AMOLED display with in-screen fingerprint scanner.  The Exynos 9610 chipset of the phone is assisted by 6 GB of RAM. It is available in 64 GB and 128 GB storage versions. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that carries support for 15W fast charging. The handset is available in color edition such as Black, White, Blue and Coral.
