Ayaneo has announced the upcoming discontinuation of its Android-based Pocket Fit 8 Elite gaming handheld. The company confirmed that rising RAM and storage costs have made further production unsustainable. After fulfilling pre-orders and completing one final restock, Ayaneo will end production of the device.

The Pocket Fit 8 Elite, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, has begun shipping to backers after months of production delays. Ayaneo prioritized shipping orders as soon as individual SKUs left the factory.

The company stated that it is committed to completing all outstanding pre-orders before selling remaining inventory to the public. However, future production costs will increase significantly, making this restock likely the last.

Ayaneo revealed that the global RAM shortage had a significant impact on the Pocket Fit 8 Elite. The company attributed months of delays to supply chain disruptions.

Although Ayaneo reserved materials for limited additional production, the rising cost of components prevents the product from being a long-term offering. Ayaneo has no plans to produce more units after the next restock.

This isn’t an isolated situation for Ayaneo. Several other handhelds in the company’s lineup are also facing production limitations. The Pocket Vert and Pocket S Mini will not be restocked once the current inventory sells out.

For the Pocket Air Mini, Ayaneo confirmed that free promotional units will end after April 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the Pocket DS is available for limited pre-orders, but its future batches remain uncertain.

The company also shared an update on its Next 2 flagship Windows handheld. Ayaneo suspended sales of the Next 2 due to rapidly increasing storage prices.

Costs have grown to nearly double the original estimates, making the device unsustainable to sell at its current retail price. Pre-orders of the Next 2 will still be fulfilled, and Ayaneo plans to resume sales if prices stabilize in the future.

Ayaneo reassured backers that it will provide after-sales support and spare parts for both the Pocket Fit 8 Elite and Next 2.

However, a recent leak suggests that the Japanese game developer may not be too concerned about this situation, as the Switch 2 might lack special hardware to run DLSS. Here are the details…

Resolution Ceiling for Nintendo Switch 2 May Hit 1080p/1440p Without DLA

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about Nintendo Switch 2 yet. However, one thing we do know is that it will incorporate the T239 chipset, which significantly outperforms the Nvidia Tegra X1 and X1+ found in current handhelds. The use of Nvidia technologies is crucial at this point because the issue goes beyond just graphics. Nintendo, aiming to prolong the console’s lifespan, wants to leverage artificial intelligence technologies like DLSS.

However, according to emerging information, the company is avoiding spending money on DLA (Deep Learning Accelerator) that directly influences DLSS performance. For those unfamiliar, DLA, or Deep Learning Accelerator, is a specialized processor designed to help GPUs perform deep learning tasks more efficiently. It is particularly critical for enhancing the performance of DLSS. DLSS renders the game image at a lower resolution and then uses DLA to recreate the image at a higher resolution.

This allows games to be displayed at higher resolutions with higher frame rates. In summary, DLA transforms DLSS into a more efficient and powerful technology, delivering better image quality. Unfortunately, the alleged T234 chip that the company is rumored to use does not support this technology. This directly implies that the handheld will not be able to provide a 4K 60 FPS gaming experience. If the claims are accurate, without DLA, Nintendo Switch 2 will be limited to running games at 1080p or at best 1440p resolution.

Indeed, the Legion Go is a quite special but impressive handheld among all the newest candidates.

Unboxing

Let’s take a look at the packaging, the Legion Go’s outer box doesn’t have anything special, but the accessories are quite good, a pretty well-made carrying case, please don’t underestimate this case, when I put the device into it, it fits very well and protects the device perfectly when I use it on the go. And there is also a magnetic hole in the carrying case for convenient charging: you can easily charge the Legion Go through it – Kind of a thoughtful detail.

A power adapter that supports up to 65w, it’s worth noting that the power cable is quite long. On top of that, there’s a strange plastic piece that no one would know its function without reading the manual again, it can merge with one of the joypads to turn it into a mouse, just like a flight steering rod. Design

The Legion Go’s design incorporates many features of handheld consoles on the market, such as removable controllers, touch pads on the controllers, brackets on the back of the mainframe, etc.

Of course, the Legion Go also has its own unique design, the right controller can be removed, you can conveniently use it as a mouse, for fps games obviously，it’s not the best, But I really like what Lenovo has been trying on Legion Go.

At the same time, just like the Switch, Legion Go’s controllers can be paired with the console separately, allowing two person playing together without additional controllers when playing some old games, which is the first in windows handheld consoles, It’s great.

My only complaint in terms of appearance is that the black plastic shell is very prone to fingerprints. The controller part is fine, the main unit was covered in grease after I used it for only ten minutes. And it’s very hard to clean.

In terms of GPU performance, the Z1 Extreme is equipped with a Radom 780M core graphics card, which scored 2,782 points in the time spy, this is an amazing result, and almost doubles the 96eu Intel XE graphics card, which is close to GTX-1650 max-Q performance.

Overall, the Z1 Extreme is a great processor for such devices, and in daily use, even when running high-performance demanding games, the Z1 Extreme delivers a very smooth gaming experience at 800p-1200p resolutions and low graphics. Some may argue that the resolution and graphics presets are too low, but in real life using the lower graphics is acceptable in an 8.8″ screen size.

In terms of power consumption, I first did a stress test at 15w TDP and the results were excellent with CPU temperatures below 70° the entire time and the fan noise being very minimal.

At 30w TDP, the power was maintained at 30w for the first 2 minutes of the stress test, after which it stayed at around 25w, with higher fan speeds and noticeable fan noise.

Game

I first tested Horizon 5 at 1200p with the low frame rate preset, and to be honest, I was very happy with the result, and even with the low frame rate the performance was excellent.

In Cyberpunk 2077, in the same 1200p, low-graphic preset, it still had good framerates, which was great.

I also tested my favorite game Ganshin Impact, at 2560×1600 resolution, low graphics preset, with an average frame rate of 53fps, and because the resolution is high enough, the game has great graphics, even better than the highest graphics on mobile platforms.

Finally, I also tried running Tears of the Kingdom on Legion Go and it almost always stayed at 1080p 30fps, a much better experience than it on switch.

Screen

The Legion Go uses an 8.8-inch LCD display, and if you’re familiar with Lenovo’s products, you’ll notice that the Legion Go uses the same screen as the Lenovo y700 tablet, which is a very good screen as far as display is concerned. But it’s not perfect, First of all, since it’s an LCD display, it has a high power consumption. At the same time, the screen does not support variable refresh rates. In other words, the screen has a serious impact on the battery life of the Legion Go.

Battery

Although the Legion Go has a large 49-watt-hour battery, the battery life performance is very average, with a TDP setting of 15W, you can play games for 2 hours, and with a TDP setting of 30W, it can only run for 1 hour, and 30 minutes. When playing some games with lower performance requirements, setting TDP to 5-10w can make it run for 3-4 hours. Of course, this is not a problem for Lenovo, most windows handheld consoles on the market have very average battery life, so when running games with high graphic requirements, I would connect it to a power adapter, the good news is that Legion Go supports bypass charging.

Speaker

The Legion Go’s speakers are located on the top of the console, and they are not that great.

Software

This console has very good hardware, but Lenovo didn’t do the best job in the software. First of all, let’s talk about the Legion space, when I was using the Legion Go, I never launched any game through the Legion space, I didn’t have a way to put my favorite games on the homepage, honestly, it’s more like an advertisement slot. As for the quick settings interface, you can quickly adjust brightness, power consumption, volume, etc., but you can’t lock the frame rate of the game, you can’t record the screen conveniently, and even the data of the performance monitor is incorrect. I hope that Lenovo will improve these issues in the next update.

Conclusion

Overall, the Legion Go has very good hardware, a powerful and balanced CPU, a good quality screen, and a controller full of highlights, but also many shortcomings. I think this handheld console is more suitable for heavy gamers and geeks.

Lenovo‘s new gaming handheld, the Legion Go, was revealed at the IFA 2023 exhibition and is set to launch on October 31st officially. It is available for pre-order and comes in two versions; a 512 GB model priced at $699.99 (5,027 yuan), and a 1TB model at $749.99 (5,386 yuan).

Legion Go Gaming Handheld Specifications:

Legion Go handheld features an 8.8-inch PureSight display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, 16:10 ratio, and a variable refresh rate of 144Hz, delivering vibrant visuals. The display also sports 500 nits brightness, 97% DCI-P3 color gamut, and 10-point touch.

It operates with AMD Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme processors and 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM operating at 7500MHz, ensuring powerful performance. It runs on the Windows 11 operating system.

The device comes with a detachable TrueStrike controller, offering advanced features like hall-effect joysticks to prevent joystick drift, a built-in touchpad, large directional keys, a tilt mouse wheel, and a total of 10 mappable buttons, including shoulder buttons, triggers, and grip buttons, allowing users to customize their gaming experience.

The latest gaming handheld in the market is from Lenovo and it will take on the likes of the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. The company’s first handheld gaming console is dubbed the Legion Go, so let’s have a look at its specs, design, and pricing.

Lenovo Legion Go: Design & Display

The Lenovo Legion Go features detachable controllers that are housed on opposite ends of the display. Meanwhile, the rear features a built-in kickstand. There are various notable aspects regarding the controllers. They feature hall effect sticks to eliminate the infamous joystick drift issue and minimize dead zones while improving accuracy. Furthermore, the bottom of the right controller even features an optical sensor that enables it to act like a mouse for better precision in FPS titles.

The Legion Go features fully customizable controllers and you can even change the RGB lighting on the joysticks with the Legion Space software. Buyers can even customize settings and key mapping per game. On the front, the handheld sports a tall 8.8-inch PureSight display that has a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits of peak brightness, 97.3 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, and a 144Hz refresh rate. This is much higher than the 60Hz 7-inch LCD screen on the Steam Deck which only has a 1,600 x 800 resolution.

Lenovo Legion Go: Specifications

Under the hood, Lenovo’s first-ever gaming handheld features the AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which are the same processors that power the ASUS ROG Ally. These chipsets are paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 storage. Similar to the ROG Ally, it also runs on Windows 11, so the device is basically a portable handheld gaming PC.

The handheld is powered by a 49.2Wh battery pack, which is the average battery size of a gaming laptop and is 19 percent larger than both the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. Lenovo claims that the device can charge to 70 percent in just 30 minutes thanks to its 65W fast charging support. Notably, the individual controllers also house a 900mAh battery pack.

The Legion Go has a max TGP of 25W. You can enable this by heading using Custom Mode in the Legion Space software. On the other hand, Quiet Mode lowers the TGP significantly and even limits the fan noise of the device to just 25 decibels. Other notable features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD card slot for memory expansion, and two USB-Type C ports.

Lenovo Legion Go: Pricing & Availability

The Chinese tech giant’s gaming handheld has a starting price tag of 699 US Dollars. However, the brand hasn’t revealed the pricing for any of the other storage configurations. But we can expect the Ryzen Z1 Extreme to carry a higher price tag. It will be available for purchase in late October 2023, from the official Lenovo website and major retailers.

Hardkernel has just launched the new ODROID-Go Ultra, after previewing the gaming handheld device two months ago. The ODROID-Go Ultra brings technology from the previous ODROID models, so let’s have a look.

The design of the new gaming handheld is based on the ODROID-Go Super meanwhile its internals is based on the ODROID-N2 Plus. In other words, its the culmination of two other models. The ODROID-Go Ultra has been released in the market with the same color that Hardkernel had teased earlier this year. So, the ODROID-Go Ultra is available in a ‘Clear White’ and ‘Dim Gray’ color options. Looking at the images, the latter has an opaque and matte finish, while the Clear White is translucent.

Both variants weigh 299 grams with 16GB of eMMC flash storage that included to boot the OS and a microSD card slot for storing games. Under the hood, the gaming handheld features the Amlogic S922X that is paired with 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery pack. The front packs a 5 inch display, which has a 854 x 480 pixel resolution. The company also bundles the handheld gaming product with a USB Type-A to USB Type-A and Type-C Y-charging cable as well.

The latter is reportedly offered because of the charging issues when the battery is completely depleted. When in this state, the ODROID-Go Ultra recharges slower. apart from this, the new Hardkernel gaming device is rated to offer up to 6 hours of continuous gameplay. Furthermore, it runs on the modified version of EmulationStation, which is built upon the Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS and Linux kernel 4.9.277. Panasonic is not the biggest name in the mobile devices sector, but it has launched several innovative devices for workers and enterprise customers. The Japanese company has just announced a new device of this kind: Toughbook FZ-T1. Rather than a simple smartphone, it is more like a handheld phone. Indeed, besides the “cellular” version it also comes in a variant without 4G LTE connectivity and without voice capabilities.

Panasonic FZ-T1 is a rugged handheld equipped with the military certification (MIL-STD-810G) and the IP68 certification making it fully waterproof and dustproof. It can also survive to drops from up to 1.5 m and temperatures (-10 to 50 °C). The most important feature of Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 is the integrated barcode scanner which will be useful in the retail sector for works such as shelf stocking, order taking, and assisted sales.

Its display has a 5-inch size and an HD resolution; it can even be used with gloves or a passive stylus pen. It is far from being a high-end handset as it features an entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 paired with just 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. But despite this, its price is insane: it will be available in the UK starting from August with 3 years warranty and a price tag of $1615/€1386 for the 4G version.
