<p>Huawei&#8217;s official HarmonyOS account on Weibo today made a new post today announcing that six more devices including the Huawei nova 8 SE have been updated to HarmonyOS 2. These six devices include both smartphones and tablets and have been listed below:</p>
<ul>
<li>Huawei nova 8 SE Vitality Edition</li>
<li>Huawei Tablet M5 Youth Edition 8 inches</li>
<li>Huawei Tablet M5 Youth 10.1 inches</li>
<li>Huawei Enjoy Tablet 10.1 inches</li>
<li>Honor Tablet 5 10.1 inches</li>
<li>Honor Tablet 5 8 inches</li>
</ul>
<p>According to feedback from many users earlier, your old phone will not only get several new features but also get a noticeable boost to performance and fluency, making it feel just like new again. It is, therefore, highly recommended to upgrade your device to the same. To do so, head over to Settings &gt; System and Updates &gt; Software Update &gt; Check for Updates.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-427471 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Nova 8 SE 4G" width="1008" height="636" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE.jpg 1008w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE-300x189.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE-768x485.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE-696x439.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-NOva-8-SE-666x420.jpg 666w" sizes="(max-width: 1008px) 100vw, 1008px" /></p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t received it yet, you might want to head over to the My Huawei app and check out the &#8216;Upgrade Early Access&#8217; section. Do keep in mind that these steps are only valid for users in China as of now as that&#8217;s where the rollout is being done. Global users will likely have to wait a while.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS has now reached a total of 141 devices, including mobile phones, TVs, and tablets, and more are to follow.</p>

Now, a couple of months after getting announced, the Huawei P50 Pro is now finally on sale in China.</p>
<p>The 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage model of the Huawei P50 Pro is now available for purchase in China through the online marketplace <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/jd.com">JD.com</a>. The device is priced at 6,488 yuan which roughly converts to $1,003. It comes in five different colors &#8212; Black, Gold, White, Pink, and Blue.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-405359 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei P50 Pro" width="1024" height="691" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark-300x202.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark-768x518.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark-696x470.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Huawei-P50-Pro-overthrows-Samsung-after-becoming-the-new-Display-leader-on-DxoMark-622x420.jpeg 622w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>As for the specifications, the Huawei P50 Pro features a 6.6-inch curved <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED display</a> with a screen resolution of 2700 x 1228 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, 1440Hz PWM dimming, and can show up to 1.07 billion colors.</p>
<p>Underneath, the device is powered by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 888</a> flagship chipset. However, the processor in this smartphone doesn&#8217;t support 5G connectivity and is limited to 4G. There&#8217;s also another variant of the phone which is powered by the company&#8217;s own HiSilicon <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000">Kirin 9000 SoC</a>.</p>
<p>The Huawei P-series is known for its camera performance and this P50 Pro is no different. It comes with two primary cameras – a 50-megapixel f/1.8 RGB sensor with OIS and a 40-megapixel f/1.6 Black and White sensor. There&#8217;s also a 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera and a 64-megapixel f/3.5 telephoto <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera</a> with OIS. On the front side, there&#8217;s a 13-megapixel f/2.4 front-facing camera with support for autofocus and AIS anti-shake.</p>
<p>The phone&#8217;s camera support 3.5x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom, and 100x digital zoom. It also comes with an HDR Vivid mode and an XD Fusion Pro graphics engine that optimizes image quality and color reproduction.</p>
<p>It is running Huawei&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS 2.0</a> operating system and is powered by a 4,360mAh battery that supports 66W fast wired charging and 50W wireless fast charging along with support for reverse wireless charging. Unfortunately, the company isn&#8217;t bundling the power adaptor with the smartphone this year.</p>

The tech giant later started pushing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/22/huaweis-now-pushing-the-harmonyos-2-0-beta-for-the-p30-and-mate-30-pro-5g/">beta version</a> to selected models like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p30-pro-new-edition/">P30</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/06/masterlu-smooth-smartphone-ui-ranking/">Mate 30 Pro</a>. The stable version is billed to start rolling out in June, perhaps onboard the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p50/">P50</a> smartphone which is expected to be launched that same period. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/huawei-harmonyos.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-387899" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/huawei-harmonyos.png?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 40 Pro" width="661" height="407" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/huawei-harmonyos.png 661w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/huawei-harmonyos-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/huawei-harmonyos-356x220.png 356w" sizes="(max-width: 661px) 100vw, 661px" /></a></p>
<p>Ahead of the official release, a demo video showing the performance of the Harmony 2.0 onboard a Huawei smartphone that looks like the Mate 40 Pro has appeared. The four-minute video which leaked on Weibo reveals all major improvements that have been introduced on the OS.</p>
<p>What stands out most is the new control center which can be dragged from the top right corner using gesture control. On the top left corner is located an in-phone search engine. Also, when the screen is swiped down from anywhere, it reveals notifications.</p>
<p>Another interesting observation is the speed at which the apps open. It is notably quicker than what obtains in Android phones. But then, these are basically native apps. There is no assurance that third-party apps will perform in the same manner.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="What&#039;s New in HarmonyOS 2.0 Upgrade" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OnRfC_67vek?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>The Harmony OS 2.0 user interface is EMUI 11 and it is adaptable to both Harmony and Android. Huawei claims the OS is fully developed by its engineers but supports Android apps. Further, some early testers have confirmed that it is not based on the Android kernel but an entirely different platform, built by Huawei from scratch.</p>
<p>The HarmonyOS is designed to seamlessly integrate various smart devices for fast connection. The design ensures that services can be seamlessly transferred among the devices to produce a smooth holistic experience. The leaked video shows HarmonyOS indeed holds promise as a formidable Android rival but it remains to be seen if the OS will actually live up to expectations.</p>

<p>The software appears to be finally ready to be adopted for smartphones and Huawei is expected to use it on its upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flagship-smartphone">flagship smartphones</a>. The company also has plans to offer the mobile operating system to other manufacturers.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-283182 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<p>Answering a question from investors, ZTE&#8217;s <a href="https://finance.sina.com.cn/tech/2021-03-17/doc-ikknscsi6778697.shtml">executive clarified</a> that the company has no plans of adopting Huawei&#8221;s HarmonyOS for its smartphones in 2021. In the current year, the company is putting in efforts to adopt 5G technology and unify its subsidiaries of smartphones &#8212; ZTE, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nubia">Nubia</a>, and Red Magic.</p>
<p>Huawei launched the HarmonyOS in 2019, soon after the company was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/20/huawei-releases-official-statement-on-android-ban/">barred from using Google&#8217;s Android</a> operating system because of the sanctions imposed by the United States government. At the time, it was reported that the software developed by Huawei could be adopted by other Chinese smartphone manufacturers.</p>
<p>The Chinese giant is aiming to have over 200 million of Huawei&#8217;s own equipment running the HarmonyOS. It is also expecting around 100-200 million additional third-party equipment running the same operating system. We will just have to wait to know how many devices actually end up running this software by the end of this year.</p>

Apparently, the Chinese tech giant is planning to release the upcoming P50 series with a bang. There are rumours now that the P50 will be the first model to launch with HarmonyOS (HongmengOS) from the go.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360458" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS 2.0 beta" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>A Weibo post by Fast Technology is claiming that the company has completed the test process of HarmonyOS 2.0 Beta 2 and is shifting to Beta 3 which will be the final step before a stable release. The post also reveals that the HarmonyOS will come pre-installed on the P50 series, making it the first smartphone to run HarmonyOS out of the box.</p>
<p>Make no mistake, Huawei has already pushed beta versions of the HarmonyOS to some of its older smartphones like the P40, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/22/huaweis-now-pushing-the-harmonyos-2-0-beta-for-the-p30-and-mate-30-pro-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">P30, Mate 30 Pro 5G</a>, and others. However, the P40 will totally ditch the AndroidOS.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-375996" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos.png?x10805" alt="" width="816" height="403" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos.png 816w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos-300x148.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos-768x379.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos-324x160.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/huawei-p50-harmonyos-696x344.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei is also set to massively push HarmonyOS update to several of its models beginning from April with the flagship models front in line to get the update. The company is looking at having the in-house ROM onboard up to 300-400 million of its devices by the end of this year. That also includes smart TVs, smartwatches, and other IoT gadgets that utilize the OS.</p>
<p>Ahead of the mass migration, Huawei has expanded its Petal line with the Petal Search upgraded to a full search engine. The company also launched Petal Maps and Docs. The company is also expected to launch the Petal Assistant, a Petal keyboard, and Petal Vision which may be an AR app since the company already has AR glasses under its sleeves.</p>

<p>Starting from April 2021, Huawei flagship devices will start getting the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS</a> upgrade. This finally will transition the company&#8217;s smartphones into an ecosystem of its own.</p>
<p>At the launch, the company also <a href="https://youtu.be/DHJrbGquKWs?t=1809">said</a> that the newbie <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x2/">HUAWEI Mate X2</a> will be among the first to get it. This means that the device will run <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui-11">EMUI 11.0</a> (Based on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10">Android 10</a>) till then.</p>
<p>Assuming that the HUAWEI P50 series launches in a couple of months, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/12/huawei-p50-series-will-come-to-global-markets-in-harmonyos-and-android-versions/">should also get it</a> alongside the 2021 foldable first. HUAWEI brought the HarmonyOS ecosystem as a way to evade the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-us-ban">tussle with the US</a> and the subsequent ban on Google Mobile Services(<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/GMS">GMS</a>).</p>
<p>This new Operating System is also considered as an <span style="font-weight: 400">infrastructure to get deep into the roots of smart IoT devices including Smart TVs. T</span>he company Last year upped the ante by bringing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-2">HarmonyOS 2.0</a>.</p>
<p>As mentioned above, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/26/huawei-smartphones-to-start-getting-harmonyos-2-0-beta-update-as-early-as-january-2021/">extended</a> the support for IoT devices initially. Following this, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/16/huawei-releases-harmonyos-2-0-for-smartphones-developer-beta-version/">released the SDK and Developer Toolkit</a> for Smartphones in December 2020 and Beta versions from Jan&#8217;21.</p>
<p>Now, it has finally found the groove for the Flagships, and hence, expect the stable versions to roll out before H1 2021 ends. We don&#8217;t have an exact list of devices that will be getting the update yet. However, it is likely to arrive on the Huawei P, Mate, and Nova devices gradually.</p>
<p>Not just the HarmonyOS, Huawei is working hard to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/18/huawei-revamps-app-gallery-interface/">improve the App Gallery market</a> as well. As of 2020, it had up to 500 million monthly active users worldwide and is expanding further.</p>

It is part of Huawei’s strategy to provide a versatile OS with great adaptability for a whole gamut of applications. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-1.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360407" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="700" height="249" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-1.jpg 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-1-300x107.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-1-696x249.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The user interface of the Harmony OS 2.0 is EMUI 11, which is adaptable to both Harmony and Android. In addition, this OS, fully developed by Huawei, supports Android apps, so everything from the App Gallery should work.  </span></p>
<div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a title="OPPO Reno 5 Pro 5G Hands-on: Premium in the Right Areas" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/18/oppo-reno-5-pro-5g-hands-on-premium-in-the-right-areas/" rel="bookmark">OPPO Reno 5 Pro 5G Hands-on: Premium in the Right Areas</a></strong></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Some related posts on Weibo from people running HarmonyOS is that it is not based on Android, as previously suspected. </span></p>

<p>There is not so much to see. Apart from how Android apps are fluid. I doubt that they are native apps.<br />However, what could make Harmony OS so fast to running android apps? Can&#39;t wait to discover <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://t.co/yyiVbHztza">pic.twitter.com/yyiVbHztza</a></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">OpenHarmony, the open-source core component of the operating system, is hosted on Gitee, which is seen as China’s version of Microsoft&#8217;s GitHub. Harmony OS 2.0 is also part of the OpenAtom Foundation, with Huawei a major-grade donor. Other donors include Tencent, Baidu, and Alibaba. The OpenAtom Foundation mirrors the Open Handset Alliance, for the Android OS collaboration and development. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">HarmonyOS 2.0 beta has already been launched on some devices and many more may come on stream thereafter. Honor, which has become independent of Huawei, is weighing its options and has not ruled out using the HarmonyOS.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">HarmonyOS is designed to seamlessly integrate various smart devices to implement fast connection and a whole raft of activities between the devices. The design ensures that services can be seamlessly transferred among the devices to produce a smooth all-round experience.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/harmonyOS.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-350859" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/harmonyOS.png?x10805" alt="" width="552" height="368" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/harmonyOS.png 552w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/harmonyOS-300x200.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">HarmonyOS uses distributed technology to make application development possible on different device platforms in an efficient manner. In addition, the HarmonyOS deploys a component-based software design to fit itself to any particular device forms on the basis of their individual characteristics.</span></p>

<p>Vice President of Huawei&#8217;s Consumer Business Software Department, Yang Haisong, stated that &#8220;Since the release of the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile application developer Beta version two weeks ago, a steady stream of developers have joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Major groups include the likes of WPS, Bilibili, Ctrip, iFLYTEK, and more.</p>

<p>Previous rumors had hinted that the Chinese tech giant was planning to announce a smart screen before the end of the month. A tipster also added that the product to be released in an entry-level device dubbed Huawei Smart Screen S series. The product is said to feature a 55-inch display size with a 60Hz refresh rate. The smart TV will also have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage onboard.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2.gif?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360685" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2.gif?x10805" alt="Huawei Smart Screen S series " width="640" height="1138" /></a></p>

<p>In April this year, Huawei released a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/23/huawei-smart-screen-v55i-with-a-55-inch-4k-display-pop-up-cam-launched/">smart screen V55i</a>, equipped with AI smart eyes, support for Huawei Share smart multi-screen, Huawei Sound smart audio, and other functions. After that, in May, Honor released the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/10/honor-smart-screen-and-smart-screen-pro-officially-launched/">Honor Smart Screen series</a>, offering three versions of 65-inch, 55-inch, and 50-inch. We believe the new Smart Screen S series will also be available in different sizes. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-s.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360677" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-s.png?x10805" alt="" width="596" height="357" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-s.png 596w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-s-300x180.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei also disclosed at the end of September that the Huawei Smart Screen will be the first batch of terminal products to upgrade to the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/16/huawei-releases-harmonyos-2-0-for-smartphones-developer-beta-version/">HarmonyOS 2.0</a>. In October this year, Huawei&#8217;s smart screen series started to recruit for the new version of smart screen UX 2.0.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360679" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="728" height="445" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2-696x425.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huawei-smart-screen-2-687x420.jpg 687w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></a></p>
<p>It is reported that the UX 2.0 user interface will bring functions similar to the operating system of smartphones to smart screen products, such as the pull-down notification center, which can more conveniently set some functions and parameters of the TV. UX 2.0 will also add multi-tasking and multi-device control.</p>

Thus, hundreds of millions of devices including cars equipped with a smart screen can run the JD app or any other app. This opens up several possibilities like allowing payment portals such as UnionPay to be accessed using multi-devices like PC, TV, etc.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-3-1.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360460" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-3-1.png?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS 2.0 beta" width="600" height="476" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-3-1.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-3-1-300x238.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-3-1-529x420.png 529w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>At present, the beta version public test recruitment activities have been rolled out and developers and partners can apply to participate for free. However, it is open to just the Mate 40 series and Huawei P40 series as well as the MatePad Pro tablet.</p>
<p>Starting from today (December 16), Huawei will provide developers with two ways to get the beta version on the selected devices. Developers can use the remote simulator in Huawei DevEco Studio by downloading the DevEco Studio 2.0 Beta3 version from the HarmonyOS official website to get it. Alternatively, they can use the exclusive OTA to upgrade their device. First, you have to register and when approved, you will then receive the official Huawei public beta invitation email. According to the email content guidelines, you can get OTA push.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-1.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-360459" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-1.png?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS 2.0 beta" width="600" height="252" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-1.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/harmonyOS-2.0-2-1-300x126.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>Additionally, a report coming from a leaker claims that the HarmonyOS 2.0 Beta for smartphones has already been shipped to some developers and it seems that the kernel has been updated to make the OS smoother.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-360217 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HarmonyOS-2-Smartphone-Leak.png?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS 2.0 Smartphone Beta Details" width="588" height="443" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HarmonyOS-2-Smartphone-Leak.png 588w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HarmonyOS-2-Smartphone-Leak-300x226.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HarmonyOS-2-Smartphone-Leak-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/HarmonyOS-2-Smartphone-Leak-557x420.png 557w" sizes="(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px" /></p>
<p>It also adds that the user interface is almost similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui-11">EMUI 11</a> but it could be different when the company ships the stable build, with a focus on enhancing the user experience. Further, the report adds that the newer version of the operating system supports both Android as well as HarmonyOS applications.</p>
<p>If true, then this is a major step by Huawei towards replacing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> operating system on its smartphones. For those who are unaware, the Chinese giant has been trying to replace Android ever since the company was banned from using Google&#8217;s Android by the United State, by imposing sanctions.</p>

<p>After releasing the HarmonyOS 2.0 Smartphone Developer Beta version in China on 16th December at around 10:00 AM local time, the company&#8217;s experts will explain the key features and development tools.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the company is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/10/huawei-harmonyos-smartwatch-launch-soon/">expected to launch</a> a HarmonyOS-powered smartwatch in the coming weeks. <p>Now, a new report coming from China (<em><a href="https://www.huaweicentral.com/new-huawei-smartwatch-is-coming-next-year-could-run-harmonyos/">via Huawei Central</a></em>) reveals that Huawei is now gearing up to launch a new smartwatch. <p>It has also been confirmed that it is not a variant of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-watch-gt-2-pro/">Watch GT 2 Pro</a> but will be a totally different device. However, at this point in time, not much is known about the smartwatch, but we expect to get more details in the coming weeks and months.</p>
<p>Recently, at the Huawei Developer Conference, the company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/04/huawei-schedules-harmonyos-2-0-beta-developer-event-for-december-16/">officially announced HarmonyOS 2.0</a> SDK with a focus on Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It is also confirmed to power smartwatches and developers in China have already started making applications for this Huawei&#8217;s own operating system.</p>
<p>Given the development surrounding HarmonyOS and the company&#8217;s struggle with getting access to technologies made in the United States, it is likely that the upcoming smartwatch will come running <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS</a>. In that case, there&#8217;s a high possibility that the device will be limited to the Chinese market, at least for the initial period.</p>

<p>Now, a <a href="https://news.mydrivers.com/1/716/716929.htm">new report</a> about the adaptation of HarmonyOS for Huawei and Honor smartphones based on the chipset has leaked online. It claims that the Kirin 9000 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/05/huawei-harmonyos-first-kirin-9000-devices/">will be the first to get the update</a>, which includes the upcoming Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-40">Mate 40 lineup</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-283182 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<p>After that, the next in line to receive the new operating system is Kirin 990 5G that powers the Huawei Mate 30 series, P40 series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/05/huawei-mate-xs-sale-china/">Mate Xs</a>, Nove 6 5G, and Honor 30 series. However, not all of these devices are expected to get the update in the first rollout.</p>
<p>In the third batch, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS</a> update will be rolled out to devices powered by the Kirin 990 4G, Kirin 985, and select devices of Kirin 820 SoC. In the fourth batch, all the remaining devices of the chipsets mentioned earlier as well as Kirin 980 will get the update. At last, phones powered by Kirin 810 and Kirin 710 will get the newer version of the OS.</p>

<p>Notably, the list doesn&#8217;t include devices powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin">Kirin</a> 970 chipset, which includes the Huawei Mate 10 series, P20 series, and a few other devices. The list seems to confirm that the update will be available for older smartphone models as well.</p>
<p>Previously, the company had revealed that it plans to roll out a beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0 by December exclusively for developers. The company is spearheading a separate ecosystem and aims to power all of its products with the HarmonyOS (HongMeng OS in China) after the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/14/huawei-ban-extended-may-2021/">tussle </a>with the US. Now, a report says that a beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0 will arrive as early as December 2020. And it will reach a few devices like the Smart screens first, and Smartphones by January/February 2021.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-283182" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<h3>Smartphones to get HarmonyOS 2.0 by January/February 2021</h3>
<p>President of Huawei Consumer BG Software Development, Wang Chenglu has given an interview to Tencent&#8217;s Deep Web. He has said<a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/511/024.htm"> (via ithome)</a> that Huawei plans to roll out a beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0 by December exclusively for developers. That said, after initial testing, HarmonyOS 2.0 beta will be available for few smartphones by February 2021.</p>
<p>With this, it is confirmed that Smartphones will get it as early as Q1 of 2021. Besides, the testing will continue for several months before the final rollout. This suggests that the initial build could be a closed beta and in our guess, Huawei&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/04/huawei-p40-pro-video-rabbit-shows-off-camera-skills/">flagship P series</a> might be the first smartphones to get it but that isn&#8217;t confirmed yet. And going by the company&#8217;s vision, HarmonyOS is projected as an infrastructure to get deep into the roots of smart IoT devices including Smart TVs as well.</p>
<h3>Emphasis on Huawei Smart screen</h3>
<p>Accordingly, President of Consumer Business IoT, Zhi Hao has <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/511/053.htm">said</a> that Huawei Smart screens will be the first to get HarmonyOS 2.0. Previously, Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/19/huawei-vision-brings-harmony-os-to-your-home/">debuted</a> the Smart screen Huawei Vision, its first TV with HarmonyOS last year. One year later, Zhi has told today that the company will soon launch a new series by end of 2020.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-291331" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv.jpg?x10805" alt="huawei vision 75 inch tv" width="1106" height="754" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv.jpg 1106w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-300x205.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-768x524.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-1024x698.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-696x474.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-1068x728.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/huawei-vision-75-inch-tv-616x420.jpg 616w" sizes="(max-width: 1106px) 100vw, 1106px" /></p>
<p>Considering the company is emphasizing more on Smart screen and its importance in completing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/28/huawei-18n-strategy-5g-era/">1+8+N strategy</a>, we can expect many models including the flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/08/huawei-vision-smart-tv-x65-launched-oled-screen-pop-up-cam-ultra-thin-body/">X65</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/23/huawei-smart-screen-v55i-with-a-55-inch-4k-display-pop-up-cam-launched/">v55i</a> to receive the new version.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/25/huawei-chairman-stock-for-base-stations/">Huawei Chairman: Company has sufficient stocks for base stations</a></strong></p>
<h3>Interesting details on HarmonyOS</h3>
<p>Coming back, Wang also revealed a few interesting titbits about HarmonyOS. He says the word &#8220;HongMeng&#8221; comes from &#8220;Shan Hai Jing&#8221;. For the unware, Shan Hai Jing, a classical Chinese text, is a compilation of geography, the culture of Pre-Qin China. It also has a collection of Chinese mythologies. Furthermore, Wang said the project started as early as 2012 and by May 2018, Kernel 1.0 completed verification.</p>
<p>Despite being ready for smartphones, Wang says the reason for not launching it earlier is the lack of ecosystem and partnership with Google. But that is toast now with Google already <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/20/huawei-banned-from-using-google-services-future-phones-to-feature-proprietary-os/">stopped</a> GMS support for Huawei. Also, He says that HongMeng OS was developed way before the chaos and it accelerated after the US ban.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1200930.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>GlobalTimes</em> </a>report, the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s Russian R&amp;D team has around 1,500 staff in cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Novosibirsk. <p>While the development of its own operating system has been directly influenced by the recent pressures from US sanctions, the company has not abandoned the Android platform. <p>At the moment, the company is facing an extensive ban, with its supply chain being threatened to be cut off. So the news of the Russian team working on HarmonyOS 2.0 implies that the company is rushing to get the new OS out in time before it possibly completely loses access to the Android OS system.</p>

Now, an image showing a logo Huawei plans to use for devices powered by its operating system has leaked.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-341957" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Powered-By-HarmonyOS-logo.jpg?x10805" alt="Powered By HarmonyOS logo" width="690" height="537" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Powered-By-HarmonyOS-logo.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Powered-By-HarmonyOS-logo-300x233.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Powered-By-HarmonyOS-logo-540x420.jpg 540w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>
<p>The image which was posted on Weibo by the user that goes by @勇气数码君 is of the “Powered by HarmonyOS” logo which should appear on devices (and services) powered by the operating system. It is similar to the “Powered by Android” logo you see when you boot up an Android smartphone.</p>
<p>The logo shows that HarmonyOS will power a variety of products including watches, cars, earphones, laptops, smart speakers, smart TVs, and smartphones. These devices will in turn control other Huawei smart home products. We expect the image should appear when booting up a device and as well as on their retail boxes.</p>
<p>Huawei already has some products running the new operating system. Last year, it announced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/19/huawei-vision-brings-harmony-os-to-your-home/">Huawei Vision</a>, a smart TV with a 4K Quantum Dot display. The tech giant has also revealed it will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/09/huaweis-harmony-os-powered-tv-now-on-reservation-to-launch-globally-september-19/">announce a HarmonyOS-powered TV on September 19</a> that will be available globally.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/10/confirmed-huawei-harmonyos-2-0-is-coming-to-smartphones-in-2021/">Starting next year, phones powered by Harmony-OS will be available for purchase in the market</a> and Huawei says it is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/11/huawei-harmony-os-2-0-smart-home-products/">already working with partner companies such as Midea to launch smart home devices</a> that will work with the OS.</p>

<p>During the event, Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei&#8217;s consumer business software department, said that the company has already partnered up with various leading manufacturers in China to release smart home related products that feature the latest version of the OS. The partners include Midea, Joyoung, and Hangzhou Robam. The Huawei official also stated that the new smart products will be a lot more interactive and extremely simple to use, thanks to the new OS.</p>

<p>As an example, the senior executive mentioned a microwave, which he claimed can be connected to a smartphone with just a touch. From there, users can seek recipes online and share the information between both devices to aid in cooking. In other words, a seamless cross platform support between smartphones and IoT products (Internet of things). Notably, Harmony OS is also being developed for future Huawei smartphones, and is apparently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/08/huawei-harmony-os-almost-reached-android-level/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">80 percent the level of Android OS and can be rolled out on devices</a> if further US sanctions ban Android completely.</p>

<p>Harmony OS 2.0 is the first distributed operating system that is truly built with cross platform support in mind, according to Huawei. Through its cross device pairing, one can essentially have interactions on multiple screens, have a fast network distribution, adaptive UI, and more responsive voice interaction as well through AI assistants in smart speakers. The Harmony OS 2.0 beta version will be launching today for bigger screens, smartwatches, and automobiles, with the smartphone iteration launching in December 2020 and full support arriving in 2021.</p>

<p>Until now, Huawei had denied that it was planning to use HarmonyOS on smartphones. The company said that the OS was developed for smart devices and it didn&#8217;t have any plans to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/29/no-smartphones-running-harmonyos-in-2020-confirms-huawei-ceo/">release it for phones anytime soon</a>. But it looks like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/23/huawei-ban-affecting-sales-europe-asia/">increasing pressure from the US</a> ban has forced the company to fast track the development of its own OS for smartphones.</p>
<p>Since May 2019, Huawei is barred from using Google Mobile Services that power Android phones across the world. And last month, after the US failed to renew its Temporary General License (TGL), the company lost access to Google&#8217;s support and updates to older devices. While Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/15/older-huawei-smartphones-may-no-longer-receive-security-updates-and-pass-safetynet-attestation/">confirmed that security updates will continue to roll out</a> to its older devices, it still marked a big blow to the company&#8217;s smartphone strategy.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> will release the HarmonyOS 2.0 beta version for smartphones with SDK, Documentation, Tool, and Simulator to developers in December 2020. The company adds that we can expect smartphones running on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS</a> in 2021.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Editor&#8217;s Pick:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/06/huaweis-ceo-says-the-challenges-facing-the-tech-giant-will-help-forge-heroes/">Huawei&#8217;s CEO says the challenges facing the tech giant will help forge “heroes”</a></strong></p>

<p>Richard Yu reveals that the initial version of HarmonyOS 2.0 will support devices with 128KB to 128MB of RAM. In April 2021, Huawei plans to add support for larger RAM devices between 128MB and 4GB. Finally, in October 2021, the company will add support for devices with 4+ GB RAM. This roadmap is for the HarmonyOS 2.0 version and not specifically for the smartphone OS. But it hints that the first batch of HarmonyOS smartphones may be targeted at the budget or mid-range segment with less than 4GB of RAM.</p>
<p>Note that Huawei&#8217;s HarmonyOS is an open-source platform, similar to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Android</a>. So you can consider Huawei&#8217;s relationship with HarmonyOS similar to Google&#8217;s relationship with Android. Even though Huawei will develop HarmonyOS, since it&#8217;s an open-source platform, Huawei is likely hoping that other companies can use it on their own devices in the future.</p>

<p>Now that it aims to take on Google&#8217;s Android with its own OS, the next few months will be extremely interesting. It remains to be seen if HarmonyOS powered smartphones can coexist with its Android competitors next year.</p>

<p>Huawei recently participated at the China Information Technology Summit 2020 where teh company&#8217;s consumer business CEO Yu Chengdong (Richard Yu) revealed a number of details about the company&#8217;s future plans. One of them bothers on the tech giant&#8217;s independent operating system &#8211; HarmonyOS. The CEO unveiled a new set of logos for the operating system.</p>
<p>One of the new logos is for the global version of the operating system while the second one is for the Chinese version with some notable differences between the two. The logo of the Global version is composed of dots and lines, while the Chinese version is composed of dots of different sizes. The overall design is simple.</p>
<figure id="attachment_336295" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-336295" style="width: 400px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/huawei-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-336295" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/huawei-3.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS " width="400" height="550" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/huawei-3.jpg 400w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/huawei-3-218x300.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/huawei-3-305x420.jpg 305w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-336295" class="wp-caption-text">HarmonyOS Chinese logo</figcaption></figure>
<p>Huawei took a major step towards reducing its reliance on other companies after the US ban with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/09/huawei-unveils-harmonyos-at-2019-developer-conference/">launch of its own operating system</a>, dubbed as HarmonyOS. The company is now planning to expand the usage with the expected release of HarmonyOS 2.0 which will be utilised on wearables, PCs, and cars. It is just fitting that the company design a recognised logo that would be used to identify products running the OS. Also, the use of two different logos for the Chinese and global versions is a good move which would allow users to differentiate the two.</p>

From the <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/502/166.htm">new reports</a>, it looks like the process is going at a rapid pace after the U.S. government banned the company.</p>
<p>Soon after getting banned in the United States, Huawei had launched its own operating system &#8212; HarmonyOS. Now, the company is slowly moving to adopt HarmonyOS on its devices instead of Google&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-283182 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<p>Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business has confirmed that the upcoming Huawei Smart Watch will come packed with the HarmonyOS. Soon after that, the company will start using the software on other products as well, including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iot">IoT</a>, computers, tablets, and smartphones. The company&#8217;s executive says that HarmonyOS will become the &#8220;worldwide operating system&#8221; in the future.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/07/tiktok-threatens-court-action-executive-order/"><strong>TikTok earns it might go to court against Trump’s executive order banning the app</strong></a></p>
<p>This was announced at the same event where the company confirmed to launch its upcoming Mate40 flagship smartphone this fall. Huawei is likely to launch its Kirin 1000 flagship SoC on 5th September at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ifa-2020">IFA 2020</a>.</p>
<p>However, the company has said that the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate40">Mate40</a> could be the company&#8217;s last smartphone to come powered by the Kirin-series flagship chipset. This is because of the U.S. ban, making it impossible for the company to manufacture chips.</p>
<p>Previous reports indicate that the company could announce a second-generation version of the operating system in September this year — HarmonyOS 2.0, aimed at computers, smartwatches, and even cars. Last month, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/13/huawei-byd-first-car-harmonyos-launches-special-p40/">Huawei and BYD showcased</a> the world’s first car running HiCar system, which is powered by the Chinese giant&#8217;s self-developed HarmonyOS.</p>

<p>Now, as per the report from <em>Science and Technology Innovation Express News</em>, the Chinese giant is all set to launch a second-generation version of the operating system in September this year &#8212; HarmonyOS 2.0.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-331207 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2.png?x10805" alt="Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 Leak" width="908" height="235" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2.png 908w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-300x78.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-768x199.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-696x180.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 908px) 100vw, 908px" /></p>
<p>When launched, the HarmonyOS (aka <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hongmeng">HongMeng OS</a>) was aimed at several different types of devices but we haven&#8217;t seen many devices powered by the same. But the upcoming version aims to take it a step forward and will be running on computers, smartwatches, and even cars &#8212; in line with the roadmap previously shared by the company.</p>
<p>A couple of months ago, it was reported that Huawei is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/02/huawei-pcs-powered-by-kunpeng-processors-and-harmonyos-2-0/">all set to enter the PC market</a> with products powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kunpeng processors. It was also reported that PCs from Huawei will be running the HarmonyOS 2.0.</p>
<p>Recently, Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/08/huawei-applies-for-trademarks-related-harmonyos/">filed a number of trademark applications</a> for the names like HarmonyOS, HarmonyOS Connected, HarmonyOS Linked, and more. This further indicates that the company is expanding its capability and device compatibility.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/08/huawei-to-overtake-samsung-in-q2-2020/">Huawei likely to overtake Samsung as the world’s largest smartphone maker in Q2 2020</a></strong></h6>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-283182 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<p>The Chinese giant has promoted its HarmonyOS as &#8220;a single OS that covers everything, and works with all product types.&#8221; It is engineered to communicate openly regardless of the device, and by using a microkernel system, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> says HarmonyOS is secure. It is also intelligently adaptive and will display correctly on various screen sizes, just like adaptive mobile websites.</p>
<p>Although the report claims that HarmonyOS 2.0 could get announced in September this year, there is no timeline about the products powered by this operating system to be available in the market.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS was expected to replace the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> operating system on Huawei and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/honor">Honor</a>-branded smartphones. It&#8217;s been almost a year since Huawei launched its own operating system and we are yet to see a smartphone powered by this OS. Given the development so far, we don&#8217;t expect HarmonyOS-powered phones anytime soon.</p>
