Honor 100 features a 6.7-inch OLED panel with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 2600 nits of brightness. To protect eyes from strain upon continuous use in low-light environments, the smartphone display offers magnanimous 2840 Hz PWM dimming. On the other hand, the Honor 100 Pro features a 6.78-inch OLED while offering similar specs as its younger sibling. Chinese e-commerce giant JD (Jingdong) has announced an e-sports gaming phone alliance in partnership with players in the gaming industry. The alliance anchors on JD’s expertise in the supply chain, technology, distribution, marketing, and payment solutions to upgrade the gaming ecosystem and to make JD the top choice for customers purchasing gaming devices.

In 2019, China officially recognized esports as an occupation but before the recognition, it has been a booming industry. China’s e-sports market is said to grow 10% annually according to an industry report. The market is expected to hit RMB 270 billion yuan in annual revenue by 2022.

JD previously launched the JD Esports plan in the middle of this year with the aim of expanding to gaming phone hardware, service, and competitions. Based on the plan, JD formed the JDE gaming team and released new gaming-related products from Lenovo, ROG, Black Shark, and Nubia’s Red Magic further promoting the growth of the industry.

The president of JD Mobile Devices, Daniel Tan stated during the conference that: “With the development of the whole industry, gamers’ pursuit of a superior experience is even higher. The JD Esports Plan can provide an integrated service for them, as well as help our partners achieve maximum business value.”

During the ceremony, JD announced a series of services for gamers, including a special trial service, one-hour fast delivery, a special network guarantee, and more. As per the data released by JD.com for its 618 shopping festival on 10th June, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has dominated the sales list. It shows that the Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Youth Edition was the leading single-selling product and became the best-selling smartphone.

It was followed by Redmi 6A, Mi 6X, Mi 8 SE, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, Mi 8 In-display Fingerprint Edition for the second to the sixth position. Then the Apple iPhone XR got the seventh spot, followed by Redmi Note 7, Redmi K20 Pro, and Huawei P30 Pro.

As you can see in the list, eight out of ten products are from Xiaomi. The other two products are from Apple and Huawei — iPhone XR and P30 Pro, holding the seventh and tenth position respectively.

The results aren’t surprising given that on 10th June, during the sale, it was Xiaomi Brand Day on JD.com, where various smartphones from the company were sold at a discounted price. This must have helped Xiaomi lead the list.

For instance, the Mi 8 Youth Edition smartphone with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage was offered at a discount of 300 yuan (approximately $478) and also offered a 50 yuan coupon to the buyers, bringing down the cost to 1,049 yuan (~$152).

Xiaomi has enjoyed relatively good financial results in recent times compared to the disappointing 2015 and 2016. The company announced Q1 2019 revenue of 43.8 billion yuan (~$6.34 billion), making for a 27.2 percent improvement compared to a year ago.

Further, the company also reported net profit of 2.1 billion yuan (~$304 million) for the first  quarter of 2019 — up 22.4 percent over Q1 2018. Xiaomi was still in fourth place for the quarter, but saw a 13 percent year-on-year decline in smartphone shipments. However, Xiaomi says its Chinese marketshare has actually increased for three consecutive months.

JD.com, a China-based online retailer, has released the data related to the New Year’s Day sale. It reveals that during the sale period, Huawei and Honor emerged as the leading smartphone brands.

While Huawei and Honor got the first and second place respectively in terms of smartphone sales, Apple comes at the third position. However, Apple stands first when it comes to the average selling price of the smartphones.

In terms of smartphone sales, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Meizu grabbed the fourth, fifth, and sixth position respectively. Following them is Oppo, Philips, Samsung, and Yijia. Philips is in the list mainly due to two products — E108 and E171L.

Comparing the average highest selling price, after Apple, the second and third position were given to Honor and Huawei. Xiaomi and Vivo have also made it into the top five list in terms of average selling price.

Coming to the smartphones, Honor 9i was the bestselling model, followed by Honor 7A, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Apple iPhone XR, and Honor 8A. While Meizu Note 8 also made it to the top ten list, Xiaomi was surprisingly absent from the list.

While the Huawei Mate 20 Pro was the leading smartphone when it comes to devices priced over 4,000 Yuan ($582), the Huawei P20 was leading in devices priced between 3,000 Yuan to 3,999 Yuan ($436-$582). In the price range of 2,000 Yuan ($291) to 2,999 Yuan ($436), Honor V10 was the leading device while Vivo Z3 grabbed the top spot in 1,500 Yuan ($218) to 1,999 Yuan ($291) range.
