<p>Smartphone prices are increasing constantly Unfortunately, consumers aiming to buy a high end flagship phone should expect to spend $1000 or even more. However, there are cheaper alternatives to consider. For example, refurbished models of Huawei Mate 50/Pro and Pocket S are currently on sale at the official Huawei stores. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 50 &amp; Pro, Pocket S Refurbished Models Now Up for Grabs at Budget-Friendly Prices!</strong></h2>

<p>Advancing technology doesn&#8217;t just increases the prices of smartphones but also boosts their performance. Take my iPhone 14 Pro Max, for example. It&#8217;s powerful enough to meet my daily needs without any problems, both today and for the next few years. Despite this, many of us switch phones every one or two years. As a result, older models enter the second-hand market, meeting buyers at reasonable prices.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 50 Pro DxOMark" class="wp-image-502623" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/huawei-mate-50-pro-named-best-smartphone-for-selfies-by-dxomark-1.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, buying second-hand phones can be quite problematic. At this point, refurbished models come to the aid of users seeking some form of assurance. Today, many manufacturers and specialized companies are now offering refurbished phones, including Huawei. For example, you can now purchase refurbished models of the Mate 50/Pro and Pocket S at prices ranging from 3,699 to 4,499 yuan, with the Pocket S available at 3,899 yuan.</p>

Back in November 2020, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/22/huawei-mate-40-mate-40-pro-and-mate-40-pro-arrive-with-new-designs-5nm-chipsets-and-top-class-cameras/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mate 40 series</a> was announced, and now the company has finally launched the next gen <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-50/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mate 50</a> series. So let&#8217;s take a look at the base variant of the premium lineup.</p>
<h4>Design &amp; Display</h4>
<p>Looking at the latest flagship smartphone, the Mate 50 features a design that is quite similar to the original Mate 40. It features a curved back panel and curved edges. The rear also houses a large circular camera module like the one found on the Mate 50, albeit, there are changes in its design with the circular module being a single large camera module this time over the previous gen&#8217;s donut like design.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-483611 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135542.png?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="581" height="561" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135542.png 731w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135542-300x290.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135542-696x672.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135542-435x420.png 435w" sizes="(max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px" /></p>
<p>On the front, the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s Mate 50 sports a 6.7 inch OLED display that has a FHD+ (2700 x 1224 pixels) resolution, with a center aligned punch hole cut out and a 90Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. This panel also supports HDR, P3 color gamut and can output 1.07 billion colors. The screen also houses an in display fingerprint scanner for security.</p>
<h4>Specifications</h4>
<p>Under the hood, the new Mate 50 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC that is paired with at least 8GB of RAM. It was initially believed to feature the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, but this was a welcomed surprise. However, this processor only supports 4G networking. This is primarily due to the sanctions it faces from the US. Furthermore, the premium grade handset will be powered by a 4,460mAh battery pack that supports 66W fast charging and up to 50W wireless fast charging as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483610 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529.png?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="780" height="550" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529.png 780w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529-300x212.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529-768x542.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529-696x491.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529-596x420.png 596w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Screenshot-2022-09-06-135529-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" /></p>
<p>Paired with the 4G only Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, this might translate to a slightly better power efficiency than the regular model. Notably, the company has also boasted of an industry breaking battery life, with users even having the option to make calls when the battery is dead thanks to an battery emergency mode. Apart from this, the brand is also offering satellite communication technology that allows for cellular calls and messages in very remote areas where there is no cellular 3G, 4G or 5G coverage. Other features include, stereo speakers, anti fingerprint film, splash, water and dust resistant (although, this wasn&#8217;t professionally rated as per the official website).</p>
<h4>Camera</h4>
<p>The base Huawei Mate 50 smartphone model is equipped with a triple camera setup on the rear. Its primary image sensor is a 50 megapixel flagship Sony IMX766 sensor, which is paired with another 13 megapixel Sony IMX688 ultra wide angle lens. The last camera is the 12 megapixel telephoto zoom lens that offers up to 5x optical zoom capabilities and OIS support. The device also supports the first ever XMAGE imaging technology that will help improve the photography experience. Meanwhile, the front houses a 13 megapixel selfie shooter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483612 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Mate-50-Colors.webp?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 50" width="1024" height="341" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Mate-50-Colors.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Mate-50-Colors-300x100.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Mate-50-Colors-768x256.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Mate-50-Colors-696x232.webp 696w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<h4>Pricing &amp; Availability</h4>
<p>The Huawei Mate 50 is available in multiple color options as well as three different storage configurations. It is offered in five color options, while the storage options include a 128GB, 256GB, and a 512GB top end model. The 128GB model costs 4,999 Yuan (roughly 720 US Dollars), while the 256GB variant has a price tag of 5,499 Yuan (roughly 791 US Dollars) and the 512GB model costs 6,499 Yuan (roughly 935 US Dollars).</p>

Reports have revealed that the lineup will include as many as four models. A <a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/M2uqFA3Ct?from=page_1005056048569942_profile&amp;wvr=6&amp;mod=weibotime&amp;type=comment">leak</a> by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed the name of the processor, which will drive the Mate 50 series.</p>
<p>The Mate 50 lineup is rumored to include four models, such as the Mate 50e, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS Edition. Reports have claimed that the Mate 50e will have the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-778G">Snapdragon 778G</a> SoC, the Mate 50 will feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/08/16/huawei-mate-50-snapdragon-888-processor/">the Snapdragon 888</a>, and the Mate 50 Pro and RS Edition will have the Kirin 9000S. However, the new leak suggests that the Mate lineup will feature a new Snapdragon processor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-324411" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Logo MWC 2019" width="3000" height="2000" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019.jpg 3000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Huawei-Logo-MWC-2019-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3000px) 100vw, 3000px" /></p>
<p>According to the tipster, the Mate 50 series is powered by a Snapdragon chipset that has an SM8425 part number and a &#8220;Waipio LTE&#8221; codename. To recall, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 have SM8450 and SM8475 part numbers, respectively.</p>
<p>The SD8G1 and SD8+G1 are 5G-enabled processors, whereas the SM-84250 appears to be the 4G edition of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-1">Snapdragon 8 Gen 1</a>. So, the information that has been shared suggests that the Mate 50 series will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G.</p>
<p>The Mate 50e, which appears to be an affordable model, may not feature the SD8G1 4G. Hence, it seems that the other models in the lineup may feature the new chip. The Mate 50 series is expected to offer up to a 120Hz OLED display and run on HarmonyOS 3.0. The lineup will not support 5G connectivity. Reports have claimed that third-party manufacturers have made 5G-enabled phone cases, which can enable 5G connectivity on the Mate 50 lineup.</p>
