Nexus phones are not just favorite of the geeks and techies but are also favorites of the devs. Xiaomi’s MIUI, one of the most classy and sexy ROM currently available in the market. When both come together, the sparks are inevitable.

Today, the latest version of MIUI 6 has been initially completed for Nexus 5, the core based on Android 4.4.4 KTU84P.

MIUI 6 for Nexus 5 is still in the beta stage, people are invited to join the experience of Xiaomi, interested can apply here .

Because screenshots only show the lock screen, home screen and system version cases (3.31 compile the latest version) so ROM Brush Pack has not publicly released, it is not clear to what extent is it ready, but certainly it looks sexy.

For those who were patiently waiting for the update, we have some good news. The company has started rolling out the MIUI update to Redmi 1S users. The users will be able to download and install the new MIUI 6 beta system version this week. It is said in the next few weeks, more users will be upgraded to this new MIUI version.

Also, all the Xiaomi phones will soon be able to upgrade to MIUI 6 according to the report. So in case you are still on the old version, keep checking for an update in the coming weeks.

So far, out of Xiaomi’s products, only the Mi4, Mi3, Mi2/2S, and MI2A can run the MIUI 6 operating system.The Xiaomi Red Mi and Red Mi Note are the only ones that have not been able to try it until now.

@MIUI_ROM released a photo that showed what appeared to be the MIUI 6 running on the Xiaomi Red Mi Note, specifically, the Red Mi Note Enhanced Edition. The OS is based on the Android 4.4.4 and is the MIUI version 4.10.22.

As of now, Xiaomi has not announced when Red Mi Note users can upgrade their operating systems, but based on this photo, it looks like it could happen sooner than you think.

These days, it is not just cellphone manufacturers that are producing third-party operating systems. Even non-cellphone companies are doing it too. Take, for example, the new Freeme OS. An OS can be evaluated based on aesthetics and its functions, that is, whether it looks good or whether it is practical. Here we will evaluate the Freeme OS by comparing it to another influential third-party OS, the MIUI (we will use the latest versions for both, the MIUI 6 and Freeme 4.0).

Interface

     Since the release of the iOS7, many re-customized operating systems have been copying Apple by adopting a “flat” design. The MIUI 6 and Freeme are no exceptions. Furthermore, both only have a one-level menu. The MIUI 6’s interface is similar to its predecessor, the MIUI V5, with its simpler-looking icons. The Freeme OS has already reached been upgraded to its fourth version.

Regarding their settings menu, both OS have a white background with a black font. The MIUI 6 uses a bold font. Furthermore, the MIUI 6’s settings bard is divided into blocks. You can change from one part of the settings menu to another by just touching its block. The Freeme OS, on the other hand, uses a similar design to the Meizu Flyme. You can change the text describing each tab by scrolling your finger left to right. Furthermore, the Freeme OS has the settings menu divided into two blocks. On the left side is the basic Settings menu, while on the right side is the expanded menu.

On appearance, the design of the newcomer, the Freeme OS, is not as exquisite-looking as the experienced MIUI, but it still looks good. If it makes some improvements later in things such as the font in the menus, then, it would probably become more beautiful.

The MIUI usually offers more services. The MIUI 6, for example, promotes many internet services such as Xiaomi events or yellow book functions. The webpage version is filled with all kinds of services.

Through its partnership with Cheetah Mobile, Xiaomi also added new upgrades with the MIUI by adding a trash bin, internet assistant, power management center, etc.

The Freeme is not without its strengths as well. One of Freeme OS’ best features is its letting its multi-task menu floating over the interface, similar to iPhone’s Assistive Touch. In the screen, there is a small white circle that you can click to open the multi-task function. However, unlike with the iPhone, the multi-task bar shows apps such as the calculator and video player. It’s very practical.

Conclusion: After several years since it was first launch, the MIUI has changed and improved a lot over the years, while the newcomer, the Freeme OS, still has a lot of catching up to do. Still, it’s not off at a bad start and may still improve over time.

The Mi 2/S is the most sold cellphone from Xiaomi and has sold up to 15,000,000 to date. Unfortunately, there had not been any plans to let owners of the Mi 2 upgrade their OS to the new MIUI 6…until now.

MIUI 6 upgrades are already available for the Mi 3 (China Unicom/China Mobile) and Mi 4 open edition although the China Mobile edition of the Mi 3 is still undergoing closed beta tests. The next step is to include an update for the Mi 2 and it looks like it is finally happening.

Yesterday afternoon, MIUI announced in their official Weibo account, @MIUI_ROM, “MIUI 6 for the Mi 2 will undergo closed beta tests at the end of the month.” In addition to the Mi 2, the MIUI 6 should be tested for the Mi 2S and Mi 2A.

Closed beta testing should go on for two weeks and we can expect an open edition to come out in October.

Starting last week, owners of the Mi 3 (China Unicom/China Telecom) and the Mi 4 could upgrade their OS to the new MIUI 6. Today, Xiaomi announced in MIUI’s official forums that closed-beta tests for the MIUI 6 with the Mi 3 China Mobile Edition will start this week. Users can sign up for the “closed beta fanclub” online. Based on the progress with the other phones, we can expect open beta tests after two weeks around Mid-Autumn.

Today, open beta tests of the MIUI 6 have finally started but these are only for Mi 4 and Mi 3 (China Unicom and China Telecom Editions) users.

Starting at 5 PM today, owners of the Mi 4 and the Mi 3 open edition (China Unicom/China Telecom) can upgrade their phones to the MIUI 6. Users of the stable editions will be unable to upgrade to the MIUI 6 by OTA at this time but they can use the 4.8.29 open version to experience the MIUI 6.

Take note. After upgrading, please use default theme. Third party themes may be incompatible. News of an upgrade for the Mi 3 China Mobile Edition may come during the mid-autumn season.

Only four days left until Xiaomi formally launches the MIUI 6 and the China Unicom and China Telecom versions of the Mi 3 and Mi 4 will be the first to be used for its beta tests. Not a lot has been revealed so far about the MIUI 6, only that it may have an immersive status bar and flat icons.

Last night, a snapshot of what is purportedly the MIUI 6 was leaked online. This is most definitely the beta version (MIUI 4.16.1). The photo shows that flat icons and status bar have become a standard configuration for the MIUI 6 and that the status bar at the top is now immersive. The MIUI 6’s UI is so different from the latest MIUI V5 that it is barely recognizable.

A few days ago, sign-ups for participation in the MIUI 6’s beta tests started. Unfortunately, only the China Unicom and China Telecom versions of the Mi 3 and Mi 4 will be used. Many users flooded MIUI’s forums and Weibo account complaining that they “abandoning” their old users by not including Mi 2/2S as well as the Mi 3 China Mobile Edition. Some even went as far as accusing Xiaomi of not letting the Mi 2/2S and Mi 3 China Mobile Edition support the MIUI 6.

In response to these claims, MIUI published a statement in their forums saying that they will not test the Mi 2/2S first due to having a limited number of developers and they will gradually do beta tests using other phones as well. In other words, the OS of the Mi 2/2S could definitely be upgraded to MIUI 6. It is just a matter of time.

Furthermore, MIUI said that they will announce plans to test other phones on August 16.

Xiaomi announced in MIUI’s official Weibo account that users can sign up to participate in beta tests for the MIUI 6 in WeChats from today until the 15^th.

Please note that when you register, you have to provide information such as your profile name in the MIUI forum or your Xiaomi account number, your real name, your IMEI number, and a basic introduction of yourself. Xiaomi will select users to participate in the beta tests. Do not miss any important news about the MIUI 6 at this time.

The first batch of phones that Xiaomi will use for beta testing on August 16 includes the China Unicom and China Telecom versions of the Mi 3 and Mi 4. Other phones will be announced later.

Furthermore, users should remember that they will not get the MIUI 6 when it is launched on the 16^th as it will only go through beta testing. Open beta testing should start at around September.
