Redmi, the sub-brand of Xiaomi, launched its first Redmi MAX TV in 2020. The first-ever model in the large screen television lineup features a 98-inch panel. It was followed by a smaller 86-inch variant in 2021. A year from that, the company has now released a 100-inch version. The newly unveiled model is Xiaomi’s largest TV to date. Let’s take a look at its features, price, and availability.

Redmi Smart TV MAX 100-inch Specifications and Features

The new large-screen television from Redmi is officially called Redmi Smart TV MAX 100-inch. It also goes by the name of Redmi MAX TV 100-inch and Redmi MAX 100-inch Jumbo TV.

As the names suggest, the television flaunts a 100-inch LED-baclit (DLED) LCD panel with a multi-zone backlight system and an ambient light sensor for auto-brightness. The screen has a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels (4K), up to 700 nits peak brightness level, a 178° viewing angle, and a 94% DCI-P3 color gamut.

The canvas supports 48Hz-120Hz VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and up to 4s latency via ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). The 10-bit display offers color accuracy of ΔE≈2, MEMC, and support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, as well as AMD FreeSync.

The TV has a metal frame and metal stands. It is powered by an unknown chipset comprising an ARM Cortex-A73 quad-core CPU and ARM Mali-G52 MC1 GPU. This chip is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The television boots MIUI TV with support for all the leading streaming platforms in China and smart home connectivity. It also comes with MIUI TV Enterprise Edition features for businesses.

It arrives with multiple ports like 1 x HDMI 2.1, 2 x HDMI 2.0, 2 x USB, AV, Ethernet, S/PDIF, and Antenna. Wireless connectivity options include WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

Despite sporting a 100-inch canvas, the television only houses 2 x 15W speakers (30W) with support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio, and DTS-HD. Finally, it also has far-field microphones for Xiao AI virtual assistant.

Redmi Smart TV MAX 100-inch Price and Availability

The Redmi Smart TV MAX 100-inch is priced at ¥19,999 ($3,149) in China, It is already up for pre-order starting today. The first sale is scheduled for at 10 AM (CST) on April 6.

Customers interested in the older 98-inch and 86-inch variants can still purchase them. They are currently retailing at ¥16,999 ($2,677) and ¥6,999 ($1,102) respectively.

Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi TV ES 2022 at the end of June 2021 in China. The television was introduced in three sizes – 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch. Now, over five months after its debut, the TV gets a new 50-inch model.

The new 50-inch version of Xiaomi TV ES 2022 is officially called ‘Xiaomi TV ES50 2022’. It has the exact same set of features as the original size variants but with lower backlight zones depending on its smaller footprint.

The television sports a 50-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels (4K), 1.07 billion colors, a 60Hz refresh rate with MEMC, and a 178° viewing angle. The screen supports 94% DCI-P3 color gamut, 600 nits peak brightness, Dolby Vision, and has a color accuracy of ΔE≈2.

The TV is powered by a MediaTek MT9638 SoC comprising of a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU and ARM Mali G52 (2EE) MC1 GPU. The chipset is paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. As for software, it runs MIUI for TV 3.0 based on Android.

Connectivity options on this television include dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3 x HDMI, 2 x USB, AV, ATV/DTMB, S/PDIF, and Ethernet. 

Lastly, the metal frame-equipped TV comes with far-field microphones and 2 x 12.5W (25W) speakers with support for DTS-HD and Dolby Audio.

The Xiaomi TV ES50 2022 is priced at ￥2399 ($377) in China. It is already up for sale in the country.

Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi is also known for its smart televisions. The company’s TVs are cheaper than the models offered by traditional TV brands with a similar set of features. However, that comes with a caveat in China in the form of advertisements in software.

Mi TVs and Redmi TVs in China run MIUI for TV based on Android. Whereas, in international markets, the company uses Android TV. In India, the firm’s televisions also come with PatchWall launcher, which offers one of the best user experiences on smart TVs.

Another difference is that Xiaomi does not show advertisements in global markets. On the other hand, the MIUI for TV in China throws ads as soon as the television boots up. Previously, these ads were even unskippable.

Apart from boot advertisements, MIUI for TV also shows other types of ads like banners and pop-ups. These can be frustrating when you are navigating through the UI.

Hence, during a recent Q&A session held by the Xiaomi TV team, a user asked the company to delete ads from its televisions with discontent. To this, the firm’s execs simply replied that they are working hard to balance advertising and user experience as much as possible for better service.

The statement from Xiaomi clearly suggests that it does not have plans to remove ads from its televisions in China for now. Hopefully, the company does not bring these practices to global markets.

Xiaomi has been always known for its hardware, however, the same cannot be said about its software. MIUI was one of the best Android skins in the past. But in recent years, its quality has degraded due to bugs, optimizations, advertisements, and slower update delivery.

With growing international presence and competition, Xiaomi surely needs to up its game in the software department. Fortunately, the company has already started working on it by promising three OS updates and four years of security patches for the upcoming Xiaomi 11T series.

MIUI is the core of Xiaomi’s business. In fact, the company started with its Android skin rather than smartphones. Even the firm’s smart TVs run the same software, which is also known as Patchwall. Do note that Patchwall found on Mi TVs in international markets is merely a launcher but in China, it is the whole system. Having said that, Xiaomi recently announced MIUI for TV 3.0 in its home country with new visuals and features.

MIUI for TV 3.0 Supported Models

Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 12 for its smartphones in late April and since then, the company has been updating the eligible devices. Similarly, it now announces MIUI for TV 3.0 but the information regarding supported TV models is bleak. Anyway, we can surely expect the company roll out this new update to the recently launched Mi TV Master Series 65-inch OLED and Redmi TV X series.

MIUI for TV 3.0 Features

First and foremost, the new version of MIUI for TV brings changes to animations. Following the footsteps of content-first strategy, the system will continue to recommend movies and series by learning user habits like before with new improved AI algorithm. What’s new is the playback can be now resumed quickly as it slowly converts into the background when stopped instead of exiting the player altogether.

Further, the iteration of the software brings profile page for different members of the family. The content recommendation will be unique for different profiles based on watching habits. Even, the Kids Mode is now upgraded to support app controls so that parents can supervise what their children watch directly from their smartphones.

Lastly but not least, the Mi Remote app is now more capable than before. Users can download and install apps directly from their smartphones. Also, they can mirror the TV screen to their handset to navigate to control their smart TV with touch inputs. The remote app also includes a gamepad to play games on TV without investing in a separate controller.

Unfortunately, this OS will mostly not make its way to the international markets as Mi TVs sold in these regions come with Android TV, which is must for Google services like Chromecast, Play Store, and Google Assistant.
