A couple of months ago, in May this year, ZTE-backed Nubia had launched its Nubia Z30 Pro flagship smartphone in its home market China. It was announced in three color options, namely Vast Black, Interstellar Silver, and Black Gold Legend.

The Nubia Z30 Pro Black Gold Legend is a Limited Edition model and was made available for pre-orders in China just a couple of days ago. Now, the device is up for purchase in the company’s home market from today.

This variant of the smartphone comes in just a single memory configuration that packs 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The device is priced at 5,999 yuan which roughly converts to $922.

Coming to the specifications, the Nubia Z30 Pro features a 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, 10-bit color depth (1.07 billion colors), 144Hz refresh rate, 20:9 aspect ratio, and 93.45% screen-to-body ratio.

It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage. To keep the temperature in check, there’s also five-layer micron graphene and VC liquid-cooled soaking plate.

As for the photography department, the phone features a quad-camera setup on the back that consists of a 64-megapixel primary sensor, a 64-megapixel secondary sensor with a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, a 64-megapixel ‘humanistic’ camera, and an 8-megapixel sensor with a 5x periscope lens. On the front side, there’s a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The smartphone runs the Android 11 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own Nubia UI 9.0 on top. It is powered by a 4,200mAh battery which comes with support for 120W fast charging. The company is also shipping the device with a 120W power adapter in the box, along with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, and a protective case.

Handset maker nubia launched the nubia Z30 Pro in China in May. The device was unveiled in three colors, namely Vast Black, Interstellar Silver, and Black Gold Legend. Out of these, the last one is a limited edition model. Two months after the phone’s announcement, this version of the smartphone is finally up for pre-order.

The nubia Z30 Pro Black Gold Limited Edition comes in a single 12GB + 512GB storage configuration. This color variant of the device is priced at ¥5,999 in China.

According to the official nubia Mobile Weibo account, the special color version of the brand’s latest flagship smartphone is finally available for pre-order in the country. Interested customers will have to deposit ¥100 and pay the remaining amount when the handset will go on sale in limited quantities on July 28.

The nubia Z30 Pro is nothing but a rebranded ZTE AXON 30 Ultra with support for 120W fast charging and a smaller battery. Some of the highlights of the phone include a 6.67-inch 10-bit FHD+ flexible AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage.

Design

Nubia Z30 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro all feature an amazing design with a glass back, an aluminum frame, and a curved display with very narrow bezels. Which one should you go for? It is mostly a matter of taste. Just consider that the OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro are waterproof with the IP68 certification and the latter also offers the latest Corning protection: Gorilla Glass Victus. Which one would you pick?

Display

Nubia Z30 Pro has the highest refresh rate with 144 Hz, but the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro come with better displays and they feature higher Quad HD+ resolutions. The OnePlus 9 Pro has the same panel as the OPPO Find X3 Pro with one billion colors, 10-bit color depth, and LTPO technology: it is definitely the most advanced one. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro comes right after with its Quad HD+ AMOLED display and a 120 Hz refresh rate. All the phones feature an in-display fingerprint reader.

Hardware/Software

Nubia Z30 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and they offer a flagship-class level of performance. There is a phone which is slightly better than the other: the highest-end configuration of the Nubia Z30 Pro which packs 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro sport a max of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The three handsets come with Android 11 out of the box and highly customized user interfaces. The UI of the Oneplus 9 Pro changes depending on the market: it has ColorOS in China and OxygenOS in the rest of the world.

Camera

All of these devices are astonishing camera phones. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is the inferior one as it comes with less stunning sensors, but it is still a high-end camera phone. The battle is between the Hasselblad quad-camera of the Oneplus 9 Pro and the triple 64 MP camera + 8 MP periscope sensor of the Nubia Z30 Pro. The latter looks like the best one on the paper.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has the biggest battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh and it provides the longest battery life on a single charge. Unfortunately, the Nubia Z30 Pro is the only one to lack wireless charging, but it supports faster wired charging with a power of 120W.

Nubia Z30 Pro is priced at about €640/$780 in China, the OnePlus 9 Pro starts at $766/€629, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro begins at €725/$885. There is not a definitive winner of this comparison: the Nubia Z30 Pro has stunning cameras and faster charging (but lacks wireless charging), the OnePlus 9 Pro (my fave) comes with an amazing display, great cameras, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has a bigger battery but inferior cameras. As scheduled, nubia, the associate company of ZTE has officially launched the nubia Z30 Pro in China. The latest flagship smartphone from the brand is nothing but a rebranded ZTE AXON 30 Ultra in different hues with a smaller battery, faster-charging support, and higher price tags.

nubia Z30 Pro Specifications and Features

The newly launched nubia Z30 Pro has the exact same design as the ZTE AXON 30 Ultra with different shades. The device comes in three colors, namely Vast Black, Interstellar Silver, and Black Gold Legend. The handset measures 161.83 x 73.01 x 8.5mm in dimensions and weighs 198g.

On the front, the smartphone flaunts a 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), 10-bit color depth (1.07 billion colors), 144Hz refresh rate, 20:9 aspect ratio, and 93.45% screen-to-body ratio. This SGS Eye Care-certified panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, supports DC Dimming, and has a centered punch-hole as well as an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with up to 16GB dual-channel LPDDR5 RAM RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. To keep the thermals down, the handset houses a five-layer micron graphene and VC liquid-cooled soaking plate.

Further, the device sports a quad-camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary sensor with OIS, a 64MP secondary sensor with a 120° ultra-wide-angle lens, a 64MP ‘humanistic’ camera, and an 8MP sensor equipped with a 5x periscope lens as well as OIS. Whereas, for selfies and video calls, the phone uses a 16MP shooter.

The smartphone runs nubia UI 9.0 based on Android 11. It comes with various camera features to make use of the incredible hardware. The nubia Institute of Imaging has even partnered with the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for NEOVISION 10 Astronomical Imaging System. The company claims that users can click star trails without using a tripod.

On the connectivity front, the handset supports dual-SIM, 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, GNSS, and GPS. It has all the essential sensors like an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. The device also sports dual stereo speakers with support for DTS: X Ultra but lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Last but not least, the nubia Z30 Pro is backed by a 4,200mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging (full charge in 15 minutes). Unlike some brands, nubia ships the phone with a 120W power adapter, a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, and a protective case.

The nubia Z30 Pro will retail for the following price tags in China.

The base and mid memory variants are already up for pre-order in China. They will go on sale for the first time on May 25 at 10 AM (local time). On the other hand, the high-end storage model, which only comes in Black Gold Legend color does not have a sale date yet.

As of now, there’s no official word from nubia regarding this smartphone’s availability in global markets.

A common trend among some Chinese manufacturers, especially those with multiple brands, is the rebadging of phones. Companies such as Xiaomi are known to launch the same phones under different names in different markets. Now ZTE is joining the trend with its upcoming Nubia Z30 Pro which is practically a rebadged Axon 30 Ultra.

The latest renders posted by the manufacturer showing off one of the available colorways of the upcoming flagship give us our best look yet at the device, and if you have not been living under a rock, then you should be able to tell that this is the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra with a new name and paint job.

Nubia has dubbed the color Interstellar Silver and has spruced up the design by adding a darker coat of paint to the area beside the camera module. The images confirm the phone has three 64MP cameras too and a periscope camera for zoom.

A live photo of the device has also shown up on the web but it has a darker shade than the renders above.

The Nubia Z30 Pro will have an OLED display with a high refresh rate and a centered punch hole, be powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor, and support 120W fast charging.

Nubia Z30 Pro specifications (Rumored)

The Nubia Z30 Pro (model number NX667J) has a 6.67-inch punch-hole OLED screen that offers an FHD+ resolution. The handset has 161.83 x 73.1 x 8.5mm dimensions and weighs 198 grams. It is expected to arrive in black and grey colors.

The Z30 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, which is mentioned at 2.84GHz octa-core processor at TENAA. The handset is expected to land in China multiple RAM variants such as 6 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB and storage options such as 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. The device lacks support for external storage.

The TENAA listing states that its rear-facing quad-camera system has a 64-megapixel main camera. For selfies, it has a front camera of 16-megapixel. Reports have claimed that the rear camera setup of the phone will feature three 64-megapixel cameras and a periscope telephoto lens.

The Z30 Pro has a pair of 1,985mAh rated batteries, which suggests that it could be housing a dual-cell battery of around 4,000mAh capacity. The Chinese firm has already confirmed that the owners of this phone will be able to completely charge it in just 15 minutes through the 120W fast charging technology. The handset is preinstalled with Android 11 OS and Nubia UI. The TENAA listing of the phone again hints that it will be a rebranded version of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra.

On May 20, Nubia will take off covers from the Nubia Z30 Pro flagship in China. Ahead of the launch, the company has been confirming its key features. Today, the Chinese brand revealed that the Z30 Pro will carry support for 120W rapid charging. At the same time, the handset has also appeared in the database of the TENAA certification platform (via) with a few key specs.

The new poster confirms that the Nubia Z30 Pro will arrive with support for 120W Neo Charge technology. It further revealed that the phone can fully charge in just 15 minutes. The company is yet to confirm the battery size of the Nubia Z30 Pro.

Earlier this month, a new Nubia phone with model number NX667J was approved by the 3C authority. The same device has now appeared in the database of the TENAA certification platform with some of its key specs.

The TENAA listing states that the phone features a 1,985mAh (rated capacity) dual-cell battery. The device has a 6.67-inch display, and it runs on Android 11 OS. In terms of dimensions, it measures 161.83 x 73.1 x 8.92mm. The TENAA listing is likely to get updated with all its major specs soon.

A couple of days from now, ZTE-backed Nubia will be launching its flagship smartphone in its home market in China, dubbed as Nubia Z30 Pro. The phone will be coming with an updated version of the under-display camera technology.

Ahead of the official launch on Thursday, Ni Fei, CEO of Nubia and President of ZTE Mobile Devices, has shared the camera samples of the upcoming smartphone. This gives us a look at the phone’s camera capabilities, including Super Night Mode and 50X Zoom Mode.

A Weibo account which goes by the name “WHYLAB” has also shared some more camera samples of the upcoming Nubia Z30 Pro smartphone. However, unlike the official samples, these images showcase the indoor lighting conditions.

The phone is expected to have three 64-megapixel camera sensors along with a periscope lens on the back. This is the same camera configuration as the Axon 30 Ultra. The front-facing camera setup is not yet known but it has been revealed that the phone has a center punch-hole cutout on the display to house the front camera.

As per the reports, the smartphone will come with an OLED display panel and offer an ultra-high refresh rate. We expect it to be a 144Hz refresh rate, similar to the one found in the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra.

Underneath, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset which was confirmed by the company months ago. While the battery capacity is not yet revealed, it is revealed that the phone will have support for 120W fast charging.

It’s pretty clear that the smartphone offers top-of-the-line specifications for a premium experience. What remains to be seen is how much money the users will have to shell out from their pocket for this premium experience. We will get to know this in the coming days when the smartphone goes official.

This Thursday, the Nubia Z series will return with the launch of the Nubia Z30 Pro. There have been rumors floating about regarding what the phone looks like, now an official render along with specs have surfaced that confirm and clarify some of what we already know and also reveals more details.

As seen in the official render below, the Nubia Z30 Pro has a curved display and if you look closely, it has a centered punch hole. Earlier rumors reported that the phone will have an under-display camera but that is not the case. Actually, Nubia will not be launching a phone with an under-display camera this year. This info was revealed at a pre-launch event held in China last weekend.

According to the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, the Nubia Z30 Pro’s display is an OLED panel with an ultra-high refresh rate. If we were to take a guess we would say it has a 144Hz refresh rate just like the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra.

The phone will also have a Snapdragon 888 processor which was already confirmed months ago. The leaker also mentions that there will be three 64MP cameras on the back of the phone along with a periscope camera o the back of the phone. This is the same camera configuration the Axon 30 Ultra has. While the battery capacity was not revealed, Nubia has added support for 120W fast charging.

As you can see, the Nubia Z30 Pro packs pretty impressive specs even though they are similar to those of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra. However, it comes with significantly faster charging. It remains to be seen if it will have a more affordable price when it is announced later this week.

Honor Play5 – May 18

Honor will announce the Play5 in China on Tuesday, May 18. Honor has confirmed that the mid-range 5G smartphone will have quad rear cameras that include a  64MP main sensor. We also know that it will have a waterdrop notch as seen in the official poster above.

Google I/O 2021

Google’s annual developer conference will kick off on Tuesday, May 18. The two-day all-virtual event will see the tech giant announce Android 12 and a bunch of new features and services it has been working on. There are speculations it may also announce the Pixel Buds A wireless earbuds.

POCO M3 Pro 5G – May 19

POCO will announce the POCO M3 Pro 5G at a global online event on Wednesday, May 19. The mid-range 5G phone will have a Dimensity 700 5G processor, an AMOLED display with a high refresh rate, and 48MP triple rear cameras.

Huawei  – May 19

Huawei has a launch event scheduled for May 19 during which it will announce a handful of products. Among the lineup are monitors, a smart display, the FreeBuds 4 TWS earbuds, a smart scale, and a children’s smartwatch.

Infinix Hot 10S – May 20

The Infinix Hot 10S will make its way to India on May 20. The Helio G85-powered phone already launched in some other markets such as Indonesia. It has a large 6.8-inch HD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a massive 6000mAh battery, and a 48MP triple camera setup.

Nubia Z30 series – May 20

The Nubia Z30 series will be announced on Thursday, May 20. So far, we expect there will be two devices – the Nubia Z30 itself and the Nubia Z30 Pro. It has been reported that the latter will have an under-display front-facing camera, an AMOLED display, and four rear cameras with 100x hybrid zoom.

Vivo TWS 2 – May 20

Vivo will announce its second-generation earbuds on May 20. The Vivo TWS 2 will launch as the successor to the Vivo TWS that was announced in 2019 and it is expected to bring improvements in multiple areas.

The development and production of smartphones with under-display technology have continued at what some industry watchers see as a frenetic pace. The ZTE Axon 20 was the first smartphone with an under-display selfie camera produced in commercial quantities. While the Axon 20 reflected a leap in under-display technology, it also highlighted areas that still need development.

The Nubia Z30 Pro smartphone is expected to be launched on May 20, will have an under-display camera that would be a great improvement from the Axon 20. ZTE published an official teaser poster on the Chinese social networking site Weibo showing the full-screen notch-less front design of the Z30 Pro. The render shows the device will indeed not have a cut-out for the selfie camera, paving the way for an under-screen selfie camera.

The evolving under-display technology was showcased at a Shanghai event back in February. Ni Fei, a top executive at ZTE, showed that the camera’s position is practically invisible during the event. This seems to have taken care of one of the flaws of the Axon 20, which had a conspicuous square.

Not much is known yet about the Nubia Z30 Pro. Still, the Weibo teaser showed an elegant and seemingly invisible front camera setup, an AMOLED display, and a quad-camera system with 100x hybrid zoom (a combination of optical and digital effects).

The teaser did not indicate the nature of the chipset that will power the device or the memory capabilities. Nubia was also silent on the device’s price when it eventually goes on sale. However, there are indications that more teasers are expected from the company as the buildup to the May 20 launch date gathers steam. We’ll keep you posted on any new development before the launch date.

A few days back, documents from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) revealed that Xiaomi had gotten a patent for a device with an under-display flip camera that could be rotated internally to serve as a selfie camera. However, we believe a Xiaomi smartphone with a rotatable under-display flip camera may be a long way from launching.

Recent reports have claimed that Nubia is gearing up to launch a new Z-series phone called the Nubia Z30. Leaked renders and key specifications of the Z30 have also surfaced in recent reports. Today, Nubia co-founder Ni Fei took to Weibo today to reveal that the company will be launching the Z30 series of smartphones on May 20. The new Z-series handsets promise a top-notch photography experience.

Mobile photography has always one of the key features of high-end Nubia phones. Fei claimed that Nubia brought the industry’s first camera phone with professional SLR function with pioneering features like multiple exposure, adjustable aperture, star trail shooting, and other functions.

Fei added that the upcoming Nubia Z30 Pro flagship will continue to offer a stellar mobile photography experience. The smartphone will excel at capturing the starry sky, among other photography features. The company is yet to reveal the specs of the Z30 Pro handset.

It is believed that the Nubia phone with NX667J, which was recently spotted at China’s 3C certification site is the upcoming Z30 series. The 5G phone was spotted with a 120W fast charger. The handset is yet to appear in the database of China’s TENAA certification.

Recently, the rumor mill had leaked render and a live shot of the Nubia Z30 handset. The leaked images revealed that the handset has a full-screen display with curved edges. Probably, it is equipped with an under-screen selfie camera. The rear camera setup of the phone has four cameras that carry support for up to 100x digital zoom. This phone is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. Hopefully, Nubia will be confirming more features of the Z30 series before the official announcement.
