PC Monitor Shipments Fall in Q2 2023, but Hybrid Work and Gaming Trends Offer Hope for the Future

Oğuz Çakır — Wed, 27 Sep 2023 23:56:48 +0000

Smartphones have become an indispensable part of our lives. Nowadays, we handle almost all our tasks with these 5 to 7-inch devices and don’t feel the need for any other product. With each passing day, new features and improved performance only make this more prevalent. While this is great for the smartphone market, it’s not necessarily good news for other markets. A recent report published by IDC highlighted a dramatic decline in the global monitor market for Q2 2023. Here are the details…

PC Monitor Market Facing Headwinds in the Short Term, but Long-Term Outlook Remains Positive

IDC, a leading authority on market research that gauges the pulse of both consumers and producers, has released a new report on the global monitor market. According to this report, the market saw a 17.1% decline in Q2 2023 compared to the same period last year. Notably, this decline was not limited to a specific region or country but was observed in shipments worldwide.

There are several reasons for this downturn, with the most significant being Covid-19. As you may know, the lockdowns brought about by the pandemic disrupted economic forecasts, leading to a major spending shift. People stuck at home started picking up new hobbies to entertain themselves and bought everything they could afford. Yes, this includes monitors. This trend lasted for about two years, and everything returned to normal by the end of 2022. Unfortunately, the subsequent period began to reflect negatively on the charts.

However, the future still looks promising for the global monitor market, especially in Q4 2023. As we all know, one of the impacts of the pandemic has been the widespread adoption of remote work. For instance, I’m also working from home using my computer, without going to any physical office location. The rise of hybrid and work-from-home models is driving demand for monitors, as employees are now requiring multiple screens to accommodate both their home and office tasks.

I experienced this in my own situation as well. Additionally, the gaming sector is another significant driver for monitor demand. Gamers are on the hunt for high-performance displays with features like high refresh rates and low input lag. Let’s not forget the growing popularity and demand for 4K and 8K panels. All these factors combined indicate an upward trend.

IDC predicts that the global monitor market will stabilize beyond 2025. The platform also expects that new monitor models that offer enhanced value propositions, such as faster panels, an increase in mini-LED monitors, and continued growth in the gaming segment, will be introduced in 2024. These developments should increase reasons for consumers and businesses to consider upgrading their displays, contributing to the continued evolution of the monitor market. The top five PC monitor vendors in terms of market share in Q2 2023 were Samsung, Dell, HP, Asus, and Lenovo.

Back in November, LG introduced its new 27-inch OLED gaming monitor called the LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B. LG has not yet listed the gaming monitor on its website, suggesting that pre-orders won’t start shipping for a few more weeks. Let’s check out its specifications and features in more detail.

LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B specs

The LG UltraGear gaming monitor boasts a 27-inch OLED display with 98.5% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and an impressive contrast ratio of 1.5 million to 1. Samsung May Launch a 77-inch OLED TV and 49-inch OLED Monitor Soon

Chandan — Thu, 02 Feb 2023 11:57:59 +0000

Samsung has just completed the launch of the top Galaxy S23 smartphone series as well as the new improved Galaxy Book 3 series. The products were excellent and have now been formally announced. Anyway, a fresh piece of information floating around the internet suggests that the company is ready to offer a 77-inch OLED TV as well as a 49-inch OLED Monitor. Both devices will be available for purchase in the near future. It appears that the brand is working on a tight timeline as its products prepare for release. A few days ago, some unknown Samsung K-series smartphones were also spotted online, which would also be released in the coming days.

According to TheElec, Samsung plans to launch a 77-inch OLED TV and a 49-inch OLED gaming monitor in Q1 2023. If this information is correct, Samsung will offer three OLED TV models and two OLED monitor models in its portfolio this year.
It is also worth noting that the brand demonstrated similar products at the CES 2023 exhibition. During CES 2023, the company displayed 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch QD-OLED TVs, as well as 34-inch and 49-inch QD-OLED gaming monitors. We’re not sure if the report relates to the same 77-inch OLED TV and 49-inch Monitor that was shown at CES.

According to the report, these items will be branded under “Samsung OLED.” This is significant because the company now employs QD-OLED panels supplied by Samsung Display, but the branding suggests that it will be open to acquiring W-OLED panels from LG Display as well. According to the sources, the new TVs and monitors would continue to use QD-OLED panels supplied by the Samsung Display subsidiary.

Samsung had requested a 48-inch screen from Samsung Display, but the company declined and instead offered them a 49-inch panel. According to sources, this is because Samsung Display can get two 77-inch panels and two 48-inch panels from a single Gen 8.5 substrate, or two 77-inch and two 49-inch panels. This means that cutting out a 48-inch panel isn’t really more cost-effective for Samsung Display than taking out a 49-inch panel, thus there was no reason for them not to offer a larger panel. Display panel manufacturers can cut several sizes of panels from a single glass substrate.

So that concludes our post on the upcoming rumoured launch of a Samsung 77-inch OLED TV and a 49-inch OLED Monitor. What are your thoughts on the topic? Do you think the new products will be worth adding to our wishlists? Do let us know by dropping a comment in your words down below. I appreciate you taking out your time and reading the post until the end.

LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B 27-Inch OLED Gaming Monitor Launches Next Month For $1,000

Jeet — Wed, 14 Dec 2022 04:29:50 +0000

LG is one of the leading makers of OLED panels and the company has a new product with an OLED screen. LG has added a new product page on its website for 27-inch OLED Gaming Monitor which carries model name LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B.

LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B Monitor

The display panel doesn’t offer 4K resolution but the 1440p resolution should be enough to product stunning image quality. There’s also anti-glare coating, which could provide a different look than the glossy TV screen. Listing of this product on the company’s website reveals that it offers a 110.8 pixels per inch display.

It has super fast 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time and supports a high refresh rate of 240Hz. It also has Nvidia G-Sync Compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium for fighting screen tears. The company is also claiming a 98.5 percent DCI-P3 coverage for the display.

The device features two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, a 3.5mm headphone jack, digital optical audio port, and two USB 3.0 downstream ports. As of now, there’s no clarification on which version of the HDMI and DisplayPort are available on LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B.

Although this LG monitor has a minimalist design, it still has some elements that are typical for a gaming device. It has an angular stand and features built-in RGB LEDs on the back.

LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B 27-inch OLED Gaming Monitor is priced at $999.99 which may seem high but it’s a good price compared to the 4K OLED monitors from the company which are made for creators. We expect the company to make a formal announcement of this new monitor in the coming weeks.
