<p>PC and tablet shipments in mainland China saw moderate growth in the first quarter of 2025, according to new data from Canalys. The report shows that PC shipments (excluding tablets) reached 8.9 million units in the mainland. It’s a 12% growth year-over-year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the tablet shipments climbed to 8.7 million units, which is a 19% increase over the same period last year.</p>

<p>According to the report, the Chinese government’s subsidy program appears to be doing most of the heavy lifting. The incentives have been pushing consumers to upgrade older devices, especially notebooks, which saw a 20% jump compared to Q1 2024.</p>

<p>However, not all segments are sharing in the optimism. The commercial PC market showed less momentum. Canalys&#8217; report shows purchases from large enterprises remained flat, while the SMB (small and medium-sized business) sector did show some signs of recovery after nearly three years of decline, growing 2% over the year.</p>

<h2><strong>Lenovo secures the top spot</strong></h2>

<p>Among PC vendors, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lenovo</a> maintained its lead with 2.63 million units shipped and a 30% market share. However, this is still a 3% decline compared to Q1 2024. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>followed with 1.04 million units (12% share), posting 8% growth. </p>

<p>iSoftStone, another Chinese company that also manufactures and sells PCs, shipped 890,000 units in Q1, 2025. It’s a massive 111% increment year-over-year, bringing its market share to 10%. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HP</a> rounded out the top five, with Apple growing 43% to 680,000 units (8% share), while HP declined 7% to 640,000 units (7% share).</p>

<p>In the tablet segment, Huawei led with 2.3 million units shipped (26% market share), closely followed by Apple with 2.1 million units (24%). Xiaomi reported the highest year-over-year growth at 57%, shipping 1.4 million units. Honor and Lenovo trailed, with Honor up 41% to 900,000 units, and Lenovo falling 23% to 500,000 units.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-692696" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Looking ahead, Canalys forecasts a flat PC market for the rest of 2025, with slight 6% growth expected in 2026. The tablet market is projected to expand 5% this year, followed by an 8% contraction next year. </p>

<p>The global PC market is seeing a double-digit dip but still remains resilient overall. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lenovo </a>has managed to retain its lead in the segment in terms of shipments, while other brands like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>took a hit. </p>

<h2>Lenovo PC Shipments hold out amid a declining market</h2>

<p>According to a <em><a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/global-pc-shipment-q2-2023-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Counterpoint Research</a></em> report, the global PC market saw a decline of 15 percent year on year in Q2 2023, although this period saw a bump in shipments over the previous quarter. During this time, Lenovo managed to retain its throne despite seeing an 18 percent year on year hit in shipments. Meanwhile, HP came in second and Dell took the third spot, with 13.3 million and 10.2 million PC shipments. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1.png?x44794" alt="Lenovo PC Shipments" class="wp-image-552548" width="641" height="456" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1.png 865w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-300x213.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-768x546.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-696x495.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-591x420.png 591w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px" /></figure></div>

<p>Interestingly, Apple is the only brand in the top 5 list that saw growth in the second quarter of this year. Its PC shipments rose by 8 percent, hitting 5.5 million units. The Cupertino based giant took the fourth spot, just ahead of Acer. The report pointed at the lack of &#8220;solid growth drivers&#8221; as one of the factors that led to the market&#8217;s slope.</p>

<p>Furthermore, it appears that global PC shipments are finally returning to a level before the Coronavirus pandemic boom. In the second half of this year, the market will see a slight rise, but shipments are expected to decline year on year in the coming quarters as well. </p>

<p>During the holiday season, PC shipments had their largest-ever decrease, with sales statistics coming to show the full impact of the loss. According to IDC, PC shipments decreased by 28%, while Gartner estimated a 28.5% decrease and Canalys a 29% decrease. Since the 1990s, Gartner has been keeping tabs on the computer industry, and this represents the worst quarterly decline they have ever seen.</p>

<p>Several reasons may have contributed to the fall in PC shipments. The need for remote working tools has declined as more individuals return to work. The rise in PC sales during the epidemic is mainly attributed to the remote working trend. Employees are no longer obliged to work from home as regularly as they formerly were as more businesses adopt hybrid working methods. This has resulted in a decline in the demand for PCs.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-508361" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>A weakening global economy has also given many people less money to invest in renovations. Leading manufacturers have suffered double-digit losses, with Dell and Acer suffering the worst losses, with shipments falling by 37% and 41%, respectively. Lenovo and HP had huge drops of 29% and 28%, respectively. Retailers and distributors have also been impacted by the fall in PC shipments in addition to PC makers. Due to the reduction in sales, several of them have seen a decline in their revenues and earnings. Additionally, this has caused a drop in the value of their shares.</p>

<p>Analysts are cautiously hopeful about the future of the PC industry despite the drop. Canalys and IDC have forecast a resurgence for the latter half of 2023 or 2024. According to them, postponed purchases would start boosting the market in late 2023, with momentum building in 2024 after firms and consumers have weathered the storm. People will start spending more on upgrades as the global economy strengthens, which will enhance PC sales.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-508362" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-300x150.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-768x384.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-696x348.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-840x420.webp 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, according to Gartner researcher Mikako Kitagawa, the slump may last until the start of 2024. She believes that the market might not bounce back as rapidly as some think. She believes that it may take some time for the market to fully recover and that it could be a slow process.</p>

<p>The fact that shipments in 2022 are still &#8220;far above&#8221; pre-pandemic levels should be noted. However, as neither Gartner nor IDC anticipate a market recovery before 2024, PC manufacturers may need to consider new models and price reductions to remain competitive. Although the PC industry may now be struggling, with the anticipated recovery, PC producers may look forward to brighter times in the future. They have to concentrate on developing fresh items that address the shifting demands of their clients.</p>

<p>In conclusion, while there was a noticeable decrease in PC shipments over the holiday season, there is no need for concern. Manufacturers and retailers should concentrate on adjusting to the shifting market conditions because it is anticipated that the market will revive in the upcoming years. They can weather the storm and come out on the other side stronger if they have the right plans in place.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/global-pc-shipments-q3-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Counterpoint Research</em></a> report, the overall PC shipments across the glove reached 84.2 million units in Q3 2021. This figure arrived despite the ongoing semiconductor shortage and other supply constraints. Despite seeing the 9.3 percent year on year growth in this period, this also marked the slowing PC shipment momentum after four consecutive quarters of double digit year on year growth. Notably, OEMs and ODMs are not witnessing are not seeing any shrinking gap between demand and supply.</p>
<p>In the third quarter, the global PC supply chain faced constraints due to component shortages that are related to power management IC, radio frequency, audio codec and others. Furthermore, the report also added that there is no solution to the demand and supply gap till mid 2022. As of right now, various manufacturing sites being shutdown in China and other Southeast Asian regions have added to the uncertainities to PC supplies as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-358933 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330.jpg?x44794" alt="Global PC" width="1440" height="929" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330.jpg 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-768x495.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-1024x661.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-696x449.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-1068x689.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065204_6330-651x420.jpg 651w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /></p>
<p>This news arrives despite PC demand still being robust during the quarter. While the commercial PC demand is still growing, the consumer PC market has been slowing down. Meanwhile, Chromebook was one of the biggest drag during the quarter, as both government and education orders were mostly delivered in the first half of this year.</p>

<p>According to an <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prAP48156621" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>IDC </em></a>report, the India traditional PC market shipped a total of 3.2 million units in Q2 2021. During this time, all products within the category saw a robust double digit growth rate. Furthermore, this report arrives despite a lack of large education and government deals in the region, which also marked the second consecutive quarter in which India&#8217;s shipments crossed the 3 million mark. This is also indicative of the underlying growth in the enterprise and consumer sectors.</p>
<p>In this category, the notebooks segment still accounts for more than three quarters of the entire market&#8217;s total shipments. Notebook PCs saw a growth of 49.9 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2021. This period also marked the fourth consecutive quarter that registered shipments crossing 2 million units. Similarly, desktop PCs also saw recovery, with shipments rising by 52.3 percent year on year after recording lowest shipments in the decade back in Q2 of last year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-363775 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420.jpg?x44794" alt="India" width="1200" height="667" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-768x427.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-1024x569.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-696x387.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-1068x594.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-756x420.jpg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>The report adds that the second wave of Coronavirus had delayed the opening of schools, colleges, and other education based institutions, which in turn, strengthened the demand for PCs for home learning/online education. Back in Q1 2021, the consumer segment alone saw a whopping 118.4 percent growth year on year and 5.9 percent sequentially. Brands were also quick to prepare channels in anticipation for stronger demands. During this time, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HP</a> lead the market, while <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dell</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lenovo</a> arrived second and third. While <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Acer</a> took the fourth spot, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ASUS</a> were tied for the fifth position.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20210114PD212.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>DigiTimes</em></a> report, industry sources close to both companies saw stronger than expected demand for their gaming laptops last year. As per sources, both firms are estimated to have seen at least a 20 percent rise in shipments in comparison to 2019. This also marked the first time either company saw shipments cross 200 million units. The momentum, which is expected to carry forward to the second half of this year as well, is said to be backed by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/coronavirus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Coronavirus</a> pandemic.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/15/samsung-galaxy-s21-s21-s1-ultra-pricing-pre-orders-and-cashback-offers-for-india/">Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, S1 Ultra pricing, pre-orders and cashback offers for India</a></strong></h6>
<p>For those unaware, PC and laptop shipments saw growth despite the viral outbreak, owing to the growing popularity of work from home and remote working situations. The pandemic has also led to an increase in competition in the gaming laptop market. The first half of this year is expected to see a boost in performance as well, especially with the launch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nvidia-rtx-3000-series/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">NVIDIA&#8217;s RTX 30 series GPUs</a> for laptops and new notebooks. In other words, the first quarter of 2021 might have the market see the strongest performance.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-345665 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120.jpg?x44794" alt="Asus" width="950" height="633" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120.jpg 950w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/asus_rog_zephyrus_duo_15_image_1601376379120-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></p>
<p>Apart from just work from home, the entire desktop gaming market has also seen a sudden rise in popularity as well. Competitive esports titles have also led to gaming machines becoming a lot more popular during the lockdowns, which were enforced across the globe. Both MSI and Asus are estimated to have shipped over 1.4 million units in market segments over 899 US Dollars. This marks a 30 to 40 percent rise in shipments in comparison to 2019.</p>
