Wangzhe Rongyao, better known with its unofficial English translation “King of Glory” is a highly popular multiplayer online battle arena game in China developed by Tencent Games. The game has become so popular that it has become of one of the testing tools to check the gaming performance of a mobile phone. Hence, smartphone manufacturers are cooperating with Tencent to launch phones that deliver optimized “King of Glory” gaming experience. Today, OPPO has confirmed that it will be launching OPPO R17 Pro King custom edition on Jan. 7.

The official Weibo post that accompanies the below shown video states that after the launch of the new Ultra HD version of “King of Glory,” OPPO is preparing a surprise called R17 Pro King of Glory custom edition which will be announced on Jan. 7. However, apart from releasing a teaser video, it hasn’t revealed whether the device will be arriving with any improved hardware.

The announcement of the OPPO R17 Pro King of Glory custom edition has come just after the company launched the New Year’s Edition of the OPPO R17 and R17 Pro. Both the handset sport red colored glass panel on their rear with a golden logo of piglet. These devices also feature New Year theme UI. As far as specs are concerned, these devices carry the same specs as the regular versions of R17 and R17 Pro. Both the New Year  are respectively priced at 2,799 Yuan (~$405) and 4,299 Yuan (~$623).

As OPPO had confirmed in the previous week, it has launched the New Year’s editions for OPPO R17 and R17 Pro smartphones through a dedicated event in Shanghai today. In terms of specifications, both phones carry the same specs as their regular versions. However, the R17 and R17 Pro New Year’s Edition have unique design since they sport red bodies that symbolize the New Year.  According to the Chinese calendar, 2019 is the year of pig. Hence, the Chinese manufacturer has engraved a golden logo of a piglet on the bottom of the rear shells of both phones. Also, these phones are running on the specialized designed New Year themed UI.

The glass rears of the OPPO R17 and OPPO R17 Pro New Year’s Edition have warm red color with gradient effect. The paintjob has been inspired by the traditional paper-cutting art of China while the golden of the piglet has a floating effect.

The OPPO R17 New Year’s edition is fitted with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display that produces FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. It is fueled by Snapdragon 670 chipset. The waterdrop notch of the display is the home for the front-facing 25-megapixel selfie camera. The rear shell of the phone has a 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup. Tomorrow, OPPO will be launching the R17 Pro mid-range smartphone in India. It will be exclusively available through Amazon India. Fresh information reveals that the Chinese manufacturer will be also launching OPPO R17 in the country. There is a slim possibility that the R17 Neo phone that was announced in August in Europe.

According to My Smart Price, the company could be launching the OPPO R17 in India. However, there is no information available on its launch date. Also, it could not be confirmed whether it will be available exclusively through Amazon India.

The OPPO R17 Pro that is launching tomorrow is speculated to be priced at Rs. 44,990 (~$639).The less powerful R17 may arrive in the country with a cheaper price tag than R17.

The OPPO RX17 Pro and RX17 Neo are respectively priced at 599 euros (~$685) and 349 euros (~$399) in Europe. Both the phones will be available for buying in the aforementioned European markets starting from Nov. 16. Even though the R17 Pro was made official in China in August, the sales of the smartphone have not yet started. A recent report had revealed that the Chinese manufacturer will be selling the phone with a pricing of from Nov. 11. Before arriving In Europe, the RX17 Neo was launched at the beginning of this month with a price tag of around ~$345.

An unidentified OPPO phone that has a model number of CPH1887 has cropped up on Geekbench benchmarking platform. The Chinese manufacturer has already launched the R17 Pro smartphone with Snapdragon 710 chipset. However, the newly spotted CPH1887 seems to be another SD710 phone from the company.

On Geekbench’s single-core test, the OPPO CPH1887 has recorded a score of 1817 and it has scored 5930 in the multi-core test. The Snapdragon 710 SoC is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. The Geekbench listing is no longer available. It is difficult to determine the exact identity of the CPH1887 since no information on it is available through sources. The R17 Pro smartphone features Snapdragon 710 and 8 GB of RAM. Could it be a lower variant of the smartphone?

In the recent past, another OPPO phone labelled as PAGM00 with Snapdragon 710 and 6 GB of RAM was also spotted on Geekbench. The Geekbench listing of the CPH1887 and PAGM00 phones suggest that these could be the two upcoming Snapdragon 710 powered phones from the company.

The newly-announced Oppo R17 Pro is definitely one of the most interesting camera phones of 2018 as it features a triple camera setup just like the Huawei P20 Pro as well as a variable aperture like Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and Note 9. Its camera department combines the most innovative camera features of this year, but will the photo quality reflect the goodness of these technologies? There are a number of processes involved in improving the low light sample, including AI image analysis, pixel-level color reconstruction, and cleaning the image to remove noise.

Note that you can’t really talk about a flagship’s camera performance until its honest review. So, don’t keep your hopes too high just yet. In case you missed, Huawei was caught marketing a DSLR picture as a Nova 3i AI beauty sample, so we can never really be sure whether the photos come from the said device.

The triple rear camera of the OPPO R17 Pro is composed of three different sensors. The first is the one with a variable aperture (from f/1.5 to f/2.4), and it sports a 16 MP resolution. The second has a 20 MP resolution and a f/1.7 aperture, while the third has a resolution of 8 MP and it is capable of 3x optical zoom without loss of detail.

At last, there is a selfie camera with a 20 MP resolution and a f/2.0 aperture. Among the other specs of the Oppo R17 Pro, we can find a 6.4-inch display with a minimal notch (just for the front camera), a very high screen-to-body ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset by Qualcomm supported by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage expandable with a micro SD up to 256 GB. Its battery has a 3415 mAh capacity and Android 8.1 Oreo is installed out of the box.
