<p>As per the official Weibo post, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> has managed to sell 1 million units of the Redmi K40 series in just 23 days in China. The company thanked everyone for the love and said that it would do its best to keep the stocks in the coming days.</p>
<p>If you recall, the Redmi K40 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/25/redmi-k40-pro-and-redmi-k40-pro-duo-launched-with-a-focus-on-performance-and-camera/">launched in China</a> on February 25. Along with the Redmi K40, K40 Pro duo, the company also brought the top-of-the-line 2021 flagship, the Redmi K40 Pro+. However, except for the Pro+ variant, the other two devices went on sale initially.</p>
<p>Last year, when the Redmi K30 Pro launched, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/27/redmi-k30-pro-exceeds-100m-yuan-sales-in-30-seconds-in-first-sale/">first sale clocked</a> 100 million yuan revenue in just 30 seconds. A few months later, the company broke the news that the entire K30 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/08/redmi-k30-series-sales-surpass-3-million-units-mark/">sold 3 million units</a> in China. Coming back, the current sales data is from Xiaomi&#8217;s own data center and the period of calculation is March 4 0:00- March 26 14:00.</p>

Rumours soon emerged not long after the launch that the models will launch in the global market under the POCO brand. However, that speculation was soon squashed by a senior member of the XDA Forum, <a href="https://forum.xda-developers.com/m/kacskrz.8240900/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">kacskrz</a> who discovered evidence, by way of code snippets, that the devices will launch in India and elsewhere under the ‘Mi’ branding.</p>
<figure id="attachment_375890" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-375890" style="width: 2048px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-375890" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05.jpg?x10805" alt="Redmi k40 Review 05" width="2048" height="1152" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Redmi-k40-Review-05-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-375890" class="wp-caption-text">Redmi k40 Review 05</figcaption></figure>
<p>The tipster has now spotted more evidence which gives a clearer picture of the models Xiaomi may release for the global market. The new evidence suggests that the Mi 11X Pro which will likely be launched alongside the Mi 11X will arrive as the Redmi K40 Pro+ which was launched as the topmost variant in China. That is an indication that the Redmi K40 Pro which bears the cidemname &#8220;haydn&#8221; may not be launched outside China.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>The screenshot which he shared shows that the Mi 11X Pro will go by the codename “haydnin pro”. This is an indication that it will be a rebadged Redmi K40 Pro Plus which has the codename &#8220;haydn pro&#8221;. As per the tweet, the device will also launch in other markets apart from India but will bear the moniker Mi 11i. On its part, the global variant adopts the codename “haydn pro global.”</p>

<p>The earlier code snippet shared by the tipster contained a Xiaomi device listed as ‘<strong>Mi 11X</strong>‘ and with the model number M2012K11AI. The device bears the codename ‘aliothin’ which is similar to the codename of the Redmi K40 &#8211; &#8220;alioth&#8221;. The &#8220;in&#8221; surfix added to it is what has fuelled speculations that the Mi 11X is a rebranded <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/11/redmi-k40-and-xiaomi-mi-11-pro-receive-bis-certifications-india-launch-could-be-nearing/">Redmi K40</a>.</p>
<p>We expect more details to emerge as time goes on.</p>

The company then continued to launch successors in the next year with <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k30">Redmi K30</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k30-pro">K30 Pro</a>. And in 2021, it is back with the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k40">Redmi K40</a> series.</p>
<p>Right from the day the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/25/redmi-k40-retail-box-leak/">retail boxes leaked</a>, there&#8217;s been a lot of buzz about these two models. Hence, let&#8217;s look at the specs and whatever we know so far before the launch next week.</p>

<h4><strong>Redmi K40 Series Design</strong></h4>
<p>Xiaomi has always kept its design distinct from Mi and Redmi flagships so far. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k20">Redmi K20</a> had a full-screen display, circular camera layout on the back while the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-9/">Xiaomi Mi 9</a> that launched in the same year had a notch-display and a pill-shaped vertical camera layout.</p>
<p>The same was the case last year but Redmi K40 Series&#8217; leaked pictures- Redmi K40 (M2012K11AC), and Redmi K40 Pro (M2012K11C) on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/10/redmi-k40-and-redmi-k40-pro-first-look-images-show-an-elongated-mi-11-camera-module/">TENAA</a> certification and the one <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/22/redmi-k40-back-panel-design/">officially teased</a> by Redmi today(Feb. 22) shows that the gap is shrinking between them in terms of design this year.</p>
<p>The teaser image of the Redmi K40 series shows a camera layout that&#8217;s just like an elongated version of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-11">Xiaomi Mi 11</a>. You can see the resemblance in the rear design below.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Upfront, the Redmi K40 series will be a big departure in design. It will ditch the Pop-up camera mechanism found on the predecessors for a centered punch-hole panel. And Lu Weibing has already confirmed that it will sport a display with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/04/lu-weibing-redmi-k40-series-will-have-the-smallest-punch-hole-in-the-world/">smallest punch-hole</a> in the world.</p>
<h4><strong>Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro Specifications (Expected)</strong></h4>
<p>Surprisingly, just like the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, this year&#8217;s devices are expected to share a lot of specs between them with few differences. Do note that these are the specs that have appeared on the TENAA listing in China and some other reports.</p>

<h4><strong>Redmi K40 and K40 Pro Launch Date, Availability, Price</strong></h4>
<p>Regarding the launch, Redmi has already confirmed that the Redmi K40 series will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/09/redmi-k40-launch-date-is-february-25/">debut in China on February 25</a>. As for the Price, the Redmi K40 Pro could start at 2,999 yuan ($462) considering Redmi prices its flagship aggressively and its predecessor launched at the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/24/redmi-k30-pro-5g-pro-zoom-editions-launch-specs-price-cameras/">same starting price</a>.</p>
<p>Since the launch is happening in China first, don&#8217;t expect it to debut outside of the country anytime soon. However, some vague rumors say that the K40 could debut under <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/poco">POCO</a> branding in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/11/redmi-k40-and-xiaomi-mi-11-pro-receive-bis-certifications-india-launch-could-be-nearing/">countries like India</a>. Let&#8217;s wait for official confirmation on the same.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The information regarding the launch of the Redmi K40 series comes directly from Redmi’s General Manager, Lu Weibing. He </span><a href="http://weibo.com/1892653244/JCG2HprF6"><span style="font-weight: 400">shared</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> a post on Weibo revealing some key features of the brand’s upcoming flagship smartphone series.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">According to him, the Redmi K40 series will be officially announced in February. Since the post as well teaser poster read ‘series’, we expect at least two devices &#8211; Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 but there could be more. Because last year, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Redmi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Redmi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> released multiple variants of Redmi K30 and a </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k30-pro-zoom/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Zoom Edition of Redmi K30 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> with a different camera setup.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">That said, although the GM mentions Snapdragon 888, this chipset should be mostly exclusive to the Pro version, which he also confirms to start from ¥2,999 ($463). In other words, the Redmi K40 Pro could be the cheapest </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/03/snapdragon-888-detailed-specifications-officially-confirmed/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Snapdragon 888</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> smartphone for a while just like its predecessor.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Further, the brand’s executive also reveals the device to probably sport the “most expensive flat display” (translated”) and a battery rated above 4,000mAh. Since expensive panels are usually associated with </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OLED/"><span style="font-weight: 400">AMOLED</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> displays, we can expect the phone, at least the Pro variant to come with this type of screen. But there’s a chance that all the devices in the series may feature 144Hz refresh rate </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LCD/"><span style="font-weight: 400">LCD</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> panels like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10t-5g/">Mi 10T</a> (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k30s/">Redmi K30S Ultra</a>) and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10t-pro-5g/">Mi 10T Pro</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, we expect to learn more about the Redmi K40 series via certifications, leaks, and teasers ahead of the official launch next month.</span></p>
