Xiaomi is raising the prices of some Redmi phones in China, and the changes are taking effect today. The company confirmed it’s bumping prices on three of its higher-end models: the Redmi K90 Pro Max, Redmi Turbo 5, and Redmi Turbo 5 Max.

According to the brand, the increases are due to the “continued sharp rise” in the cost of key components, especially global memory chips.

Here are the new effective prices

The most direct increase is to the Redmi K90 Pro Max, which now costs 200 yuan more across all configurations. The base 12GB + 256GB variant is now priced at 4,199 yuan, up from its earlier launch price of 3,999 yuan. Higher-end variants follow the same pattern, with the top 16GB + 1TB model now listed at 5,499 yuan, compared to its initial price of 5,299 yuan.

Things are a little less straightforward with the Redmi Turbo 5 and Turbo 5 Max. The prices have gone up, but not because Xiaomi is raising them directly. Instead, the company has ended its Spring Festival promotional discounts, effectively snapping both phones back to their standard retail pricing.

However, Xiaomi is still offering a 200 yuan subsidy on the 512GB variants, which slightly softens the impact for buyers considering higher storage options.

This means the Redmi Turbo 5 now starts at 2,299 yuan for the 12GB + 256GB model, while the Turbo 5 Max begins at 2,499 yuan for the same configuration. Previously, both models were available at lower “initial sale” prices during promotional periods.

None of this comes as much of a surprise. Memory prices have been trending upward for a while now, and manufacturers usually pass at least some of those costs down the line.

Following weeks of beta testing, Xiaomi has finally begun rolling out a stable HyperOS 3.1 update to the initial set of devices. The latest HyperOS software, based on Android 16, brings meaningful upgrades and plenty of fixes to deliver a refined software experience.

The latest update is available for the new Xiaomi 17 series and Redmi K90 Pro Max, as shared by Xiaomi Time. Currently, the rollout is restricted to China, as has been the case with previous HyperOS releases. However, it will eventually reach Xiaomi devices globally soon.

Right now, smartphones are kinda strange. Every phone that calls itself a “flagship” always puts most of its focus on the camera. So if you’re someone who doesn’t really care that much about photography, but still wants the rest of that flagship-level experience, well… You basically have no choice but to pay for those expensive camera systems anyway. So the question is: Is there a phone that has all the flagship features, but uses the extra space from the camera to do something different—something surprising?

Yes, my friend. There it is. This is the REDMI K90 Pro Max. It takes the space that would normally belong to the camera and stuffs a subwoofer into it. I genuinely love this phone. In fact, I’d say its role in the lineup is kind of similar to the Xiaomi 17 Plus. And if you don’t hate big screens, this one is definitely worth buying more than the standard Xiaomi 17.

2.1-Channel Speakers

First, let me correct a common misconception: Three speakers don’t automatically mean louder. Unlike rugged phones, where the rear speaker is just there to increase volume, the extra speaker here on the K90 Pro Max is specifically tuned for low-frequency detail. Its maximum volume is about the same as a normal dual-speaker phone. In fact, when playing music normally, you might not even notice it’s working unless you listen closely. That’s because this is a 2.1 channel setup — each speaker handles a frequency range it’s best at.

The rear one mainly works between 60–200Hz. And the FR graph confirms it: low-end performance is clearly better than that of typical phones. Yes, the crossover does bring some drawbacks, but in real listening, it matters far less than the graph suggests.

One reason iPhones are known for good audio is that they use Loudness Compensation — boosting highs and lows at low volumes to compensate for how our ears perceive sound. The K90 Pro Max now has this feature too. Plus, directional tuning means you don’t have to flip the phone around to get the best sound.

And if you still don’t like the tuning? No problem — REDMI gives you tons of presets and even full EQ control. Honestly, I think every bass guitarist should buy this phone. Because when someone goes, “Are you even doing your job?” Just hand them this phone and be like, “Maybe it’s time you replaced that shit you’re using.”

Design

I’ve said a lot about the design in the hands-on video already, so here are just a few extra notes:

• The Denim Blue version looks great, but it is thicker and heavier, and the fabric-like material will wear faster. If you plan to use it for 5 years, please just use a case.

• Because of the rear speaker, REDMI could only give it IP68, not IP69. Not a real issue — next one.

• The USB 3.2 Gen 1 port gives faster data transfer and supports video output. Though right now it’s only screen mirroring, not full desktop mode.
• For network compatibility, band coverage in North America is incomplete. Depending on your area, the signal may vary.

Display

One of the biggest reasons this model is called Pro Max is the display. Size, brightness, clarity — all match the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The new RGB S-stripe pixel layout lets it look as sharp as a 2K panel while using less power.

And yes, there are always compromises: the bottom bezel is slightly thicker, and the panel is LTPS instead of LTPO, meaning higher power consumption and no Full-screen AOD. But overall? I still think this display is better than the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro.

Performance

It uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but the tuning here is more aggressive than on the 17 Pro Max — not just in benchmarks, but in real gaming. In Honkai: Star Rail, it tries very hard to maintain high frame rates. But once temps hit 52°C and power draw reaches almost 9W, throttling is unavoidable.

So what about the D2 display chip? Will using it for frame insertion make gaming smoother? Of course not—frame insertion only works for the first ten minutes, and once it overheats, it automatically shuts off. Your hands then feel just like slow-cooked beef—uncomfortable. Plus, frame insertion causes severe screen tearing. Honestly, for this game at least, this chip doesn’t really serve any purpose.

Of course, we tested Genshin Impact as well. But the difference between them was so small, there’s really not much to take away from it.

But here’s the fun part: Xiaomi has been testing a PC game emulator called WinPlay, and on the K90 series, it’s finally available to the public. Right now, it runs three games perfectly: Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight Silksong, and Stardew Valley — with Steam save sync and low power draw. Basically, the Steam Deck experience on your phone. But… if you don’t play these three games, this feature means nothing to you.

There are still a lot of drawbacks. For example, the launcher for this emulator is really hard to find, and the interface hasn’t even been translated into English yet. You also have to be online and logged into a Xiaomi account just to start a game. Want to play other games? Nope. Right now, outside of those three games we mentioned, most of them just won’t run properly.

So yeah, it’s still far from replacing a Steam Deck. At this stage, the emulator is basically a beta. If you want a truly comfortable PC gaming experience on a phone… you’re gonna have to wait a bit longer.

Cameras

Although the K90 Pro Max’s camera has been upgraded, the improvement might not be as big as everyone imagines. The sensor is exactly the same as the Xiaomi 17’s, and the telephoto has an even smaller aperture because it’s a periscope design. Let’s start with this telephoto first.

The JN5 is an old friend of ours—although the sensor area is still a bit smaller compared to a flagship, in most scenarios, you won’t notice any major issues. Just like the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the focal length is 115mm, meaning 3x to 5x zoom is achieved through cropping the main camera. But the K90 Pro Max also uses center fusion technology and AI enhancement, so photos taken between 70mm and 115mm are actually not bad. Images of this quality are more than enough for posting on Instagram or Facebook.

I think its telephoto easily beats the standard Xiaomi 17, though there’s still a gap compared to the 17 Pro Max. Once the center fusion fails—due to low light or moving subjects—AI enhancement alone can’t save the poor image quality.

Even without a rear display, the camera isn’t pushed out of the module, but the K90 Pro Max’s ultra-wide camera is still 18mm. The main reason is cost-saving—using the same lens assembly as the Xiaomi 17 reduces extra expenses.

Although the field of view is narrower, the good news is that the image quality has improved. It’s much better in every aspect than the previous 8MP ultra-wide camera.

The thing is, I can just step back two steps and take the same composition with the higher-quality main camera. The narrow field of view greatly reduces this camera’s practical value.

I’ve already talked too much about the problem of the 18mm lens being too narrow in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max review video, so I won’t repeat it here. My only hope for next year’s Xiaomi and REDMI devices is: don’t use this 18mm lens that can’t even be called ultra-wide again.

There’s not much to say about the main camera—its performance is almost identical to the Xiaomi 17’s. Compared to other phones in the same price range, its only real advantage is better performance in low-light scenarios.

The front camera has actually been upgraded and is better than the K80 Pro. We shouldn’t expect it to be as strong as a flagship, but judging by the image quality, I think it’s already sufficient.

For video, the front camera supports 4K at 30fps, and the rear camera goes up to 8K. My only complaint about its video quality is, the image stabilization algorithm sometimes makes the footage blur. In lower light, this problem gets worse, so it still has a long way to go in terms of video.

Another point is that the K90 Pro Max cannot record Dolby Vision videos. After all, Dolby Vision requires paying extra, so REDMI is still the familiar REDMI we know.

Battery

The K90 Pro Max has a 7560mAh battery, so its endurance is almost identical to the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It only falls slightly behind during heavy gaming sessions.

Charging power is also 100W wired, with 50W wireless charging. Using the official 100W charger, the phone can be fully charged in 50 minutes. If you have a charger that supports 100W PPS, the charging speed should be roughly the same as the official charger.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi 17 series and REDMI K90 series look like two product lines, but realistically, if you rename them, they could all just be one. From Mini to Pro Max — Xiaomi gives you everything Apple won’t.

Among them, K90 Pro Max is hands-down the best value — and my personal favorite. It’s balanced in every area, but also unique in a way no other phone is. Even if you never listen to music on your phone’s speakers, you should still give REDMI a thumbs-up. Phones like this make the smartphone world less boring.

Another major aspect that remains unchanged between the two devices is the Qualcomm chip under the hood. The brand offers the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, built on a 3nm process and designed for high performance. This flagship chip is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage.

A massive 7,500mAh battery pack powers the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, while the Redmi K90 Pro Max barely edges ahead with a 7,560mAh cell. The duo supports 100W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 22.5W reverse wired charging (22.5W reverse wireless charging support on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max).

While Xiaomi’s top of the line smartphone gets a dual display setup, Redmi’s premium smartphone also gets a unique feature on the rear. Alongside its camera lenses, there is a dedicated woofer with ‘Sound by Bose’, which is a part of the 2.1 stereo sound field that includes the dual speakers.

Photography

Just like how the Redmi K90 Pro Max borrows the display from the 17 Pro Max, the K90 Pro Max borrows its main camera from another Xiaomi 17 series model. It arrives with a 50MP 1/1.31″ Light Fusion 950 sensor with OIS that is also found on the standard Xiaomi 17. This is paired with a 50MP ultra wide angle lens and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto shooter (a first for the brand). For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 20MP camera.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max packs a larger 50MP Light Hunter 950L main sensor (1/1.28″), 50MP ultra wide angle lens, and 50MP periscope telephoto shooter with 5x zoom. There is also a 50MP shooter for selfies and video calls. Apart from better hardware, this model also brings Xiaomi’s collaboration with Leica.

Pricing & Final Thoughts

Lastly, let’s talk about the pricing. Xiaomi sells the 17 Pro Max with a starting price tag of 5,999 Yuan (roughly 841 US Dollars) for the 12GB + 512GB starting option. Meanwhile, the 12GB + 256GB base variant of the Redmi K90 Pro Max costs 3,999 Yuan (roughly 561 US Dollars). The higher 12GB + 512GB option costs 4,499 Yuan. So choosing between the Redmi K90 Pro Max and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max comes down to what you prioritize most.

If you’re looking for high-end performance, a large battery, and a strong all-around phone at a better value, the K90 Pro Max stands out as a very compelling option. But if you want every premium feature, a richer camera system, a secondary display and the absolute top tier of flagship finishing, the 17 Pro Max delivers that.

After weeks of rumors and teasers, Xiaomi has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Redmi K90 Pro Max in its home market of China. The company’s popular budget subsidiary’s K90 lineup is the latest flagship series, packing impressive specs and features that can even rival the premium Xiaomi 17 series. So here’s everything you need to know.

Redmi K90 Pro Max: Design & Display

The Redmi K90 Pro Max was just unveiled with a refined and premium build quality, which also appears quite familiar. Just like the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the K90 Pro Max features a flat rear panel, flat metallic edges, and a large rectangular camera island. Although this one skips the secondary camera on the back. This module features three camera sensors, an LED flash, and a dedicated rear facing speaker with “Sound by Bose” tuning.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi K90 Pro Max has an IP68 rating for high-end water and dust resistance. There are multiple color variants of this model, with a notable option being a denim blue variant. Xiaomi is even reproducing the texture and feel of real denim on this model, without compromising on dirt, wear, and scratch resistance.

On the front, this model borrows the same screen as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, sporting a tall 6.9-inch M10 OLED display with a 2K+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 3500 nits of peak brightness, uniform bezels on all four sides, and Xiaomi’s Qingshan Eye Protection 3.0 that offers 1-nit low-light eye protection, full brightness DC dimming, and Circular Polarized Light 2.0 to reduce glare and eye strain during extended use.

Hardware

While the K90 Pro Max drops from Xiaomi’s budget sub brand, Redmi’s latest flagship brings cutting edge hardware under the hood. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, which is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. So you can expect flagship level performance. For an improved gaming experience, Redmi packs this model with a dedicated D2 graphics chip. A large 6,700mm² 3D ice-cooling system helps keep the temperature in check.

Another impressive aspect of the Redmi K90 Pro Max is battery capacity and charging. A gigantic 7,560mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. You also get 22.5W reverse wireless charging support. This model runs on the Android 16 OS based HyperOS 3 custom skin out of the box. The audio setup is another highlight of this device. The Redmi K90 Pro Max stands out with a sizeable 2.1 channel audio thanks to a dedicated speaker on the back, which has its audio tuned by Bose. This audio setup includes two ultra linear speakers and a large independent bass unit.

The teasers released by the brand are shaping it to be an irresistible flagship phone, as it features the same display and primary camera available on the more premium Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Furthermore, it is the company’s first Redmi phone to feature a periscope telephoto camera. A new update from the brand has confirmed that it packs the largest battery ever on a Redmi phone.

Redmi K90 Pro battery size, charging capabilities

The above poster confirms that the Redmi K90 Pro Max houses a massive 7,560mAh battery. Before this, the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, which debuted earlier this year, packed a 7,550mAh battery.

The Redmi K90 Pro Max will support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It will also support the 100W PPS charging protocol and 22.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Redmi K90 Pro Max is officially confirmed to feature a 6.9-inch OLED screen that offers a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will come preloaded with Android 16 with a layer of HyperOS 3.0 on top.

The K90 Pro Max will draw power from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and will rely on the D2 chip for graphics performance. At present, there is no information about the K90 Pro Max’s front camera, but its rear camera setup has a 50-megapixel OmniVision Light Fusion 950 main camera with OIS support, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS, and an ultra-wide camera.

Recent teasers have also confirmed that the K90 Pro Max has three speakers, including a Bose-powered unit on the back. The handset will also offer an IP68/69-rated dust and water resistance. 

Rumors are rife that the Redmi K90 Pro Max will be rebranded as the Poco F8 Ultra globally. The company is yet to confirm the details of the Redmi K90, which is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. Likely, it will be rebadged as the Poco F8 Pro in the global market.

The Redmi K90 Pro Max is borrowing quite a bit from the Xiaomi 17 series. Earlier this morning, the brand revealed that the phone will use the same main camera found on the standard Xiaomi 17.

In addition, Redmi has now confirmed that the K90 Pro Max will feature the same M10 display as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It’s a 6.9-inch OLED screen with 2K resolution. 

The display also has the same independent pixel array technology as the 17 Pro Max for accurate color rendering and improved sharpness.

The K90 Pro Max also integrates Xiaomi’s Qingshan Eye Protection 3.0, which includes 1-nit low-light eye protection, full brightness DC dimming, and Circular Polarized Light 2.0 to reduce glare and eye strain during extended use.

On the camera side, Redmi is using the same main and ultrawide sensor as the Xiaomi 17. It is also the first Redmi phone to feature a 5x telephoto lens. 

The setup includes a triple 50-megapixel setup consisting of a Light Fusion 950 (1/1.31”) main sensor, a 5x periscope telephoto lens (Samsung JN5), and an ultrawide lens (OV50M). The company has also shared early camera samples for us to check out.

Moreover, Redmi has confirmed that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a D2 graphics chip. To keep thermals in check, the device features a 6,700mm² 3D ice-cooling system inside.

Redmi K90 Pro Max’s primary camera revealed

According to Redmi, the Redmi K90 Pro Max will feature its most powerful camera setup yet, equipped with a large 1/1.31-inch main sensor. It uses the same Light Fusion 950 high-dynamic sensor found on the Xiaomi 17, offering an impressive 13.5EV dynamic range supported by DXG high dynamic technology.

The lens design includes a 1G+6P hybrid glass-plastic structure with multi-layer coating, significantly reducing glare and enhancing overall image clarity.

A previous leak revealed that it may feature a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 periscope telephoto camera. At present, there is no concrete information about the device’s front camera.

Under the hood, the Redmi K90 Pro Max will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a massive 7,500+ mAh battery with 100W wired charging support. It is also expected to offer 50W wireless charging.

He clarified that this rear speaker does not compromise the phone’s IP68-rated water and dust resistance, as the design has been engineered to maintain complete protection.

In addition, Redmi has added an audio-vibration dust removal feature through software that helps clear the speaker openings for optimal sound quality.

Sun Cun further mentioned that the denim colour variant of the K90 Pro Max uses a tech denim material process, which accurately reproduces the texture and feel of real denim while offering improved resistance to dirt, wear, and scratches. He assured users that the cooling performance of this variant is on par with the black and white models.

According to a well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, the Redmi K90 series will include a 2.1-channel speaker system, combining top, bottom, and rear speakers to enhance immersion during gaming, video playback, and music. According to Weibing, the K90 series introduces two models: the Redmi K90 and the Redmi K90 Pro Max. This time, Redmi has advanced its product timeline from November to October, making it the brand’s earliest flagship launch in recent years. The K90 Pro Max will be the first “Pro Max” device under Redmi, targeting the 4,000 Yuan (~$560) above segment.

Weibing mentioned that the Pro Max aims to deliver “top-tier performance and quality,” excelling in performance, endurance, display, and camera technology. It is expected to feature a 50-megapixel 1/1.3-inch main sensor with optical image stabilization and a periscope telephoto lens, a first for the K series.

The K90 will serve as an upgraded all-round flagship, while the K90 Pro Max will represent a comprehensive technology flagship focused on breakthrough innovation.
