The listing hardly unveils any details about the new Redmi Watch but confirms the new watch is in the making.

Redmi recently unveiled the Redmi Watch 3 Lite, after the successful launch of the Redmi Watch 3 Active and Redmi Watch 3. The new watch is set to further strengthen the Redmi’s presence in the smartwatch market.

We expect more details about this new smartwatch in the coming few days.

Nearly a year after announcing the brand’s first smartwatch, Redmi released the Redmi Watch 2 in China last week. When compared to its predecessor, the watch comes with key upgrades in the design, display, and features department, making it an attractive option for ¥399 ($62) in the home market.

As usual, we got our hands on the new Redmi Watch 2 this week, and here are our first impressions.

A Larger and Better Display

One of the biggest upgrades on the new Redmi Watch 2 is its display. The brand has given it a 1.6-inch OLED display, which means you get more screen real estate with better colors. To recall, the original Redmi Watch had a 1.4-inch LCD display.

The screen-to-body ratio has improved to 63.7%, and the overall design feels a bit more refined than its predecessor. The watch only weighs 31 grams, so it’s on the lighter side, and you’ll be comfortable wearing it for the entire day. The silicone rubber strap is comfortable and features a quick-release design, so you can easily replace it.

Redmi Watch 2 comes with More Features

The new Redmi Watch 2 features over 117 workout modes, with the ability to automatically detect some of them.

The watch also supports all-day heart rate monitoring as well SpO2 blood oxygen monitoring. The latter is a new and welcome addition to the watch, enabling you to keep a track of your blood oxygen levels. The watch will take around a minute to check your oxygen levels.

There are other features too like sleep detection, stress detection, sleep status and quality monitoring, and sedentary reminders like other fitness wearables in the market.

The new watch is 5ATM waterproof like its predecessor, so you can even wear it while swimming. Finally, it also comes with a multi-functional NFC, which will come in handy for payments.

Redmi Watch 2 offers a Week’s Battery Life

The Redmi Watch 2 still comes with a magnetic charging design. The official standby claim is 12 days, and you’ll get around a week’s usage on a single charge. We are yet to check this claim in our tests, but we’ll share more details in our full Redmi Watch 2 review that’ll come out soon.

Overall, the Redmi Watch 2 is an excellent upgrade to the original Redmi Watch, featuring better features, and a more colorful display without a significant increase in its price tag.

Recently, Redmi launched a budget smartwatch called Redmi Watch 2. It is the successor to Redmi Watch from 2020. The new model is costlier than its predecessor. For extra cash, it brings some improvements over the original product.

So is it worth spending more on the latest Redmi Watch 2 or should you save some penny by settling down for the Redmi Watch? We try to answer this question in our detailed comparison of these two wearables’ specifications

Redmi Watch 2 vs Redmi Watch: Detailed Specs Comparison

Note: This comparison is based on the original Chinese variant of the Redmi Watch and the newly released Redmi Watch 2. The international Redmi Watch (aka Mi Watch Lite) is a bit different from the Redmi Watch sold in mainland China.

Design

Both Redmi Watch (REDMIWT01) and Redmi Watch 2 (M2102W1) feature a polycarbonate (plastic) body with a square-shaped dial and an interchangeable TPU strap. However, the newer product is slightly lighter at 31g (with strap) compared to the 35g weight of the older model.

They are 5ATM water-resistant and have a single physical button on the right side. Further, the front is fully occupied by the screen, whereas the rear houses a pogo pin for charging and a window for the biometric sensor. 

As far as colors are concerned, the duo is sold in three hue options (black, white, blue). But customers can buy other colored straps separately. Redmi only offers two additional straps (pink, green) for the original as opposed to three (pink, green, brown) for the latest watch.

Without the strap, the Redmi Watch and Redmi Watch 2 measure 41 x 35 x 10.9mm and 39.1 x 34.4 x 9.98mm in dimensions respectively. In other words, the newer model is a bit smaller in form factor.

Display

Despite being slightly smaller than the original, the Remi Watch 2 flaunts a larger 1.6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 360 pixels. The Redmi Watch from last year sports a comparatively tinier 1.4-inch TFT LCD panel with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels.

Both screens support touch inputs and they use a gesture navigation system. Unfortunately, we only have the official PPI count for the Redmi Watch, which happens to be 323.

Interestingly, the last-gen model has 120+ watch faces compared to 100+ watch faces on the current-gen product.

Sensors

The duo comes with an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a compass, and an optical heart rate sensor. Additionally, the Redmi Watch 2 also has a gyroscope and an SpO2 sensor.

Sports Modes

The original Redmi Watch only supports 7 sports modes. But its successor Redmi Watch 2 arrives with a whopping 117 sports modes.

The newer watch also supports automatic activity detection for certain sports modes.

Health

Just like any other smart wearable available in the market, these two come with heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, guided breathing exercises, and idle alerts.

In addition, the latest Redmi Wach also has support for blood oxygen level monitoring and menstrual cycle tracking.

Other Features

The duo arrives with NFC for transit passes. On the other hand, the Redmi Watch 2 also comes with GNSS (BeiDou, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO) for accurate location-based activity tracking.

They can be also used to control smart devices connected with Xiaomi’s Xiao AI platform.

Battery Life

The Redmi Watch gets its juice from a 230mAh battery, while the Redmi Watch 2 is backed by a somewhat smaller 225mAh battery. 

Thanks to an energy-efficient screen, the latter is rated to last for 12 days on regular usage as opposed to 7 days on the former. However, users can get up to 12 days of endurance on the Redmi Watch by enabling a power-saving mode. 

Furthermore, the Redmi Watch 2 is advertised to offer 7 days of battery life on heavy usage and 18 hours of runtime on location-based activity tracking.

As for charging, the 2021 model uses a magnetic connector but the 2020 watch charges via a cradle.

Compatibility

Both Redmi Watch and Redmi Watch 2 pair with smartphones via Bluetooth 5.0 and Xiaomi Wear application. They can be used with any handset running Android 5.0+ or iOS 10.0+.

Price

The original Redmi Watch costs ¥299 ($47). Whereas, the Redmi Watch 2 is priced at ¥399 ($62). The latest smartwatch from Redmi is ¥100 ($15) costlier than the older watch.

Redmi Watch 2 vs Redmi Watch: Which One Should You Buy?

The Redmi Watch 2 is definitely a better option of the two. For ¥100 ($15) more, it not only offers a superior larger AMOLED display but also GNSS and much more sports modes.

Most importantly, the wearable has a considerably better battery life with 12 days of endurance. On top of these, it is not only smaller but also lighter in weight.

The Redmi Watch has just been announced in India. The smartwatch is the latest wearable that arrives in the region and was launched along with the Redmi Note 10S earlier today (13th May 2021).

Talking about its specifications and features, the new wearable offers a lot of the functions that are quite common with other smartwatches. This includes 11 sports modes for tracking physical activities, along with built in GPS + GLONASS for accurate navigation. The smartwatch is also capable of monitoring the users’ heartbeat, guided breathing, and can track sleep cycles as well. The new watch from the Chinese tech giant can be paired with a smartphone through the Xiaomi Wear app and offers more than 200 faces for its watch.

The device sports a 1.4 inch colored TFT LCD display that is covered by a 2.5D curved glass. Redmi officially claims that the wearable can last for up to 10 days on a single full charge and even offers 5ATM water resistance on the smartwatch as well. Notably, the smartwatch is the second wearable from the company in India, after the Redmi Band that was launched previously in the region.

The newly unveiled device was first announced back in November 2020 in China and will finally go on sale in India starting from 25th May 2021 and will be available in four different strap color variants along with Bluetooth 5.0 support. It is priced at 3,999 INR, or about 54 US Dollars and can be bought from the company’s official Mi Stores and Flipkart.com.

Following the end of the holidays in China, product launches are expected to pick up next week. One of the key announcements, and a highly anticipated one at that, scheduled for the coming week is that of the ASUS Zenfone 8 series. Here’s a heads up of what’s happening next week:

HTC Vivecon – May 11 and May 12

HTC’s 2-day Vivecon event will begin on Tuesday, May 11. The manufacturer is expected to launch new VR hardware and at least one is expected to be an all-in-one device that does not need to be tethered to a computer. It has been reported that the new headsets will be targeted at enterprise users but HTC may surprise us and announce a consumer headset too.

Zenfone 8 series – May 12

ASUS will announce the Zenfone 8 series on Wednesday, May 12. The Taiwanese manufacturer is expected to announce two new flagships – the compact Zenfone 8 which will have a 5.92-inch display and the larger Zenfone 8 Flip that will have not only a bigger screen but motorized flip cameras like the Zenfone 6 and Zenfone 7.

The launch will be a global one that will be live-streamed. It will begin at 10:30 PM IST/7:00 PM Berlin Time/6:00 PM Lagos/1:00 PM New York.

Redmi Note 10S and Redmi Watch India launch – May 13

Redmi India has a launch scheduled for May 13. The manufacturer has revealed that it will announce two new products on that day. The first is the Helio G95-powered Redmi Note 10S which already launched in other markets in early March and went on sale in April.

There is also the Redmi Watch, a wearable that launched last year in China. However, it appears that India will be getting a rebadged Mi Watch Lite and not the Chinese version of the Redmi Watch. This is because the promotional page for the Redmi Watch for India says that the smartwatch has built-in GPS, a feature not available on the Redmi Watch sold in China. It also has 11 sports modes (like the Mi Watch Lite) while the Chinese version has 7. Beats us as to why they won’t just launch it as the Mi Watch Lite in India.

Infinix Note 10 Pro – May 13

On the same day as the Redmi event in India, Infinix will have its own in Pakistan for the Infinix Note 10 Pro. This mid-range phone will also have MediaTek’s Helio G95 processor, a 64MP rear camera, and a 5000mAh battery capacity.

The Redmi Watch will be the second wearable device from the brand after the Redmi Band, which is currently selling for Rs 1,399. It appears that Redmi Watch was originally announced back in November 2020 in China.

Both watches have a 230mAh battery, but the MI model offers longer battery life of 9 days, whereas the Redmi variant offers 7 days of battery juice. There are high chances that the global Mi Watch Lite will be heading to India with the Redmi Watch moniker.

The Redmi Watch has a 1.4-inch IPS LCD display that offers 320 x 320 pixels resolution. It comes with 5ATM water resistance and Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the display. Redmi’s Note 9 series in China was accompanied by another device last month, the Redmi Watch. Given how smartwatches are gaining a lot of popularity and is all set to further grow in the coming months, the Redmi Watch with its super affordable price tag could turn out to be an attractive option in its price segment.

We finally got the Redmi Watch in our China office last week. So this is our quick Redmi Watch hands-on and we hope we answer most of the questions you have about the new watch.

Redmi Watch has a Simple Square design

The Redmi watch has a simple square 2.5D curved display, similar to the Apple Watch series. You get a single button on the right side, but most of the operations can be performed via the touch screen.

The square display has its set of advantages. You get a more screen real estate to display text messages and other data as compared to a traditional round dial smartwatch.

Note that the display area is quite small and there are thick black bars on the top and bottom part of the 1.4-inch 320 x 320 pixel resolution screen. However, the black background in the interface helps hide these thick bezels.

Redmi Watch is Light-weight and Compact

The Redmi watch is pretty compact with the following dimensions: 41mm x 35mm x 10.9mm. It weighs just around 35 grams, so you can wear it all the time even while sleeping.

The back sensors don’t protrude much from the body, so the wearing experience is good. The sides of the watch is also polished and curved, so it doesn’t feel cheap.

The watch comes with an optical heart rate sensor, six-axis sensor, geomagnetic sensor, and an ambient light sensor.

Features a Multipurpose Single button

The Redmi watch comes with a single button on the right side. The button serves multiple functions like lighting up the screen, opening up the tile-based list of app menu, returning to the previous menu, and even calling up XiaoAI assistant (Chinese only).

Its Features are similar to the Mi Watch

Almost 80% of the features of the Redmi Watch is similar to the Xiaomi Mi Watch, including switching songs, controlling the volume, receiving messages, measuring heart rate, sports tracking, and so on. The biggest difference between the two watches is that the Redmi Watch lacks the ability to accept or make phone calls since it doesn’t feature an eSIM.

Note that Redmi’s new watch cannot accept calls or reply to text messages. Also, you need to manually change the language of the watch via the connected app. We couldn’t find an option inside the watch settings.

The Watch can be used to make NFC payments/ bus cards

Redmi Watch comes with NFC support so you can make retail payments as well as access transport cards using the watch in China.

You should get around 7 days of battery life with its 230mAh battery.

The Redmi Watch is very Affordable

The key differences between the two watches are sports modes, GPS, AI Assistant, NFC, battery life, and price.

Sports Modes

This is a key difference between both watches. The Redmi Watch supports just 7 sports modes whereas the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite supports all seven of the Redmi Watch’s sports modes and adds four more – open water swimming, trekking, trail running, and cricket. Xiaomi did say that cricket mode will be added through an OTA upgrade, so out of the box, the Mi Watch Lite supports just 10 sports modes.

GPS

This is another major difference between the two watches. The Redmi Watch doesn’t have built-in GPS which means if you go for an outdoor run or cycle, you have to connect it to your phone to use GPS. The Mi Watch Lite, on the other hand, has GPS+GLONASS for positioning, so you don’t have to connect it to your phone to track your trajectory.

AI Assistant and NFC

The Redmi Watch has both an AI Assistant and NFC. The assistant is Xiaomi’s XiaoAI and with the built-in microphone, users can ask it questions, set alarms, and use it to control compatible smart home appliances. It also has NFC for payments.

The Mi Watch Lite doesn’t have a built-in assistant which is why there is no microphone. It also does not have NFC, so there is no support for contactless payment.

Battery Life

Both watches have the same 230mAh battery capacity but the Redmi Watch has a lesser battery life – 7 days compared to the Mi Watch Lite whose battery life goes up to 9 days on a single charge.

Price

The Redmi Watch is officially sold for ¥299 (~$45) but third-party resellers sell it for a bit more. While Xiaomi is yet to reveal the price tag of the Mi Watch Lite, it is already on sale by retailers and can be gotten for even $58.90 on Giztop.

Conclusion

The Mi Watch Lite definitely has more to offer, at least for international buyers who won’t find a use for the Redmi Watch’s XiaoAI assistant and NFC payment support. The Mi Watch Lite has more sports modes, GPS, a slightly better battery life, and supports more languages but all of these come with a more expensive price tag. Nevertheless, it is the logical choice for any international buyer.

On a side note, we believe the Mi Watch Lite may launch in China as a sort of Redmi Watch Pro that has GPS and more sports modes. The reason is the model number which shows it is clearly a Redmi product that has been rebadged as a Mi product for international markets, so a local release is definitely possible. However, it should come with certain additional features such as NFC and the XiaoAI assistant, and a higher price tag than the standard model.

Xiaomi‘s upcoming smartwatch, dubbed as the Mi Watch Lite, has been in the news for the past few months. The device, which has already passed through the FCC certification process, is expected to be a rebranded model of the Redmi Watch.

Our sources have now revealed that the Mi Watch Lite will get launched tomorrow, i.e. on 10th December. As for the pricing, the smartwatch will be priced under $60 but is likely to be around $50.

In terms of specifications, we expect the company to retain almost the same set of specs as the recently launched Redmi Watch. However, it remains to be seen if the upcoming Mi Watch Lite also supports NFC connectivity.

To recall, the Redmi Watch features a 1.4-inch square display with 2.5D curved glass that offers a pixel density of 323PPI. It comes with support for more than 20 custom dials, including classic simplicity, cool IP, independent design, and more.

There’s also XiaoAI voice assistant but the Mi Watch Lite being a global variant, is unlikely to have support for Xiaomi’s own voice assistant. But the device is rated 5ATM to ensure that it is waterproof.

As for the health and fitness-related features, the Redmi Watch has a built-in high-precision six-axis sensor with a motion algorithm. It also has features like 24-hr heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, and sedentary monitoring.

While the battery capacity remains unknown, the company has promised a week of usage with a single charge. Reports indicate that the Mi Watch Lite packs a 230mAh battery with support for 5W charging.

The Redmi Watch is priced at 299 yuan in China, which is roughly $45.47. The upcoming Mi Watch Lite should be priced a bit higher and we expect it to go on sale soon after getting launched. To know for sure, we will have to wait for a few more hours.

Design

The Amazfit Bip U and Redmi Watch can pass for similar watches. They both have a square face dial and a single button. Their dimensions and weight are also very similar. However, they are not identical. Not only are their buttons of different shapes and are placed in different positions, but the Bip U’s case has lugs while the Redmi Watch doesn’t.

Even though the Redmi Watch has the advantage with respect to the number of colors you can choose from, we are sure both watches will enjoy a plethora of third-party watch straps that owners can purchase to give their watch a unique look.

Display and Watch Faces

The Bip U and Redmi Watch have nearly the same screen size but the former is slightly bigger at 1.43-inches. The Redmi Watch does have higher pixels per inch value due to its higher resolution and smaller screen size.

Both screens are surrounded by thick bezels, which is not unexpected at this price point. They also each have a 2.5D glass covering their display. Huami says the Bip U has an anti-fingerprint coating but Redmi doesn’t say if its watch has.

When it comes to the number of watch faces you can choose from, the Redmi Watch wins with up to 120 in total. This means you can choose a different watch face every day for four months.

Sports Modes

The Bip U is the clear winner here as it can track up to 60 different sports and physical activities, leaving the Redmi Watch in the dust with its measly seven. Sure, you probably won’t use all of them but it should cover the basics. Sadly, we couldn’t get our hands on the complete list of supported sports modes for the Amazfit Bip U.

Blood Oxygen Level Detection

Blood oxygen level detection is a feature that has appeared on more watches announced this year. The sensor detects the level of oxygen in the blood which is a vital sign of how healthy an individual is. It is also one of the vitals that are checked for those that may have COVID-19. Being able to easily check it whenever and wherever you are is an advantage and one you have with the Amazfit Bip U. Do note that it is not a screening test for COVID-19.

NFC and AI Assistant

The Redmi Watch has NFC and allows users to use it to make payments. It also has a microphone and Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant, so users can use their watch to control compatible smart home devices.

The Amazfit Bip U doesn’t have NFC neither does it have an AI assistant. However, Huami is working on a Pro model that will have an AI assistant (most probably Amazon’s Alexa) and a microphone.

GPS and Geomagnetic Sensor

Both watches do not have a built-in GPS module which means if you want a watch that will track your position and outline your route when you go for an outdoor walk/run/cycling, then neither of these two are for you. However, if you have your phone with you and have your watch connected to it, the Amazfit Bip U will be able to use the GPS on your phone.

Redmi didn’t say if its smartwatch has connected GPS but unlike the Amazfit Bip U, it has a geomagnetic sensor which means it has an electronic compass that can come in handy when hiking and you need to find your way back.

The pro version of the Amazfit Bip U launching soon has been confirmed to have GPS and GLONASS.

Menstrual Tracker

The Amazfit Bip U has a women’s health feature that allows female users to track their cycle. The watch will record your menstrual and ovulation periods and also alert you before they arrive so you can plan ahead. Unfortunately, the Redmi Watch doesn’t have this feature.

Battery life

The two watches have the same battery capacity but the Amazfit Bip U has a longer battery life by two days. It is not a significant difference, so it won’t be a dealbreaker when it comes to choosing either of the two smartwatches.

Price

The Amazfit Bip U is the more expensive model no doubt. However, the Redmi Watch is expected to launch outside China as the Mi Watch Lite and when it does, there is a chance it will be more expensive. If Xiaomi keeps the price tag the same, then it most likely will drop some features such as NFC and the Chinese AI assistant.

Conclusion

The Amazfit Bip U is the logical choice here as it offers more features albeit at a higher price tag. However, it is not without its shortcomings, but if you can live with them, then you should pick it up.

The Redmi Watch is an excellent first attempt from Redmi but I won’t recommend it for buyers outside China as you won’t be able to use the XiaoAI assistant and the NFC features outside China. Nevertheless, you may want to wait for the launch of the global version but bear in mind that it may cost more.

Xiaomi just unveiled the Redmi Watch alongside the Note9 Series in China. Not long enough, the Redmi Watch, along with the ‘Mi Watch Lite’ moniker has now appeared on Bluetooth SIG certification suggesting a Global launch soon.

As tipped by Mukul Sharma, the listing on the Bluetooth SIG website shows two models. One is REDMIWT01 and the other is REDMIWT02. Interestingly, both are similar and are applied by Xiaomi Inc. The description of both the models reveal that they are smartwatches. Additionally, the devices support Bluetooth version 5.1 connectivity which corroborates with earlier info.

Sadly, just like every other Bluetooth SIG listing, you don’t get any info apart from this here. However, thanks to an earlier launch in China we know the entire specs of the Redmi Watch and possibly the Mi Watch Lite too. That is because, earlier it was speculated that Mi Watch Lite with a similar model number could be a rebranded Redmi Watch.

Now, after comparing the specs of the Redmi Watch in China, and the earlier FCC listings of the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite, it looks like the latter is most likely a rebrand for global markets like Europe, the USA, etc. That said, the Redmi Watch could launch with the same moniker in Asian countries like India as it has also appeared on the listing with a slightly different model number. However, Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed it yet, and hence, let’s wait for more info.

Talking about specs, the design on the FCC listing, and Redmi Watch’s official renders show a similar square-shaped screen. Design-wise, the Redmi Watch in China has the 2.5D curved watch dial housed inside the textured body with a Matte finish. The detachable straps are made of TPU material and it has a rounded-rectangle dial on the right side.

The Smartwatch’s Global version will likely have multiple colors like the Chinese version. Those could be Black, Ivory, Cherry Pink, Needle Green, and Blue Ink. The Redmi Watch has a 1.4-inch display which is similar to the FCC listing and has 323 PPI. We can expect other features like auto-brightness, 230mAh battery with 5W charging. And fitness tracking features like 24-hr heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, and sedentary monitoring.

Additionally, it will likely have multiple sport modes(7-modes) along with swimming stroke recognition, GPS and NFC for connectivity, 5ATM water resistance. The Redmi Watch is priced at 299 yuan($45.47) in China. Nevertheless, considering the Mi Watch Lite is already certified by DEMKO and FCC, we don’t think the global launch will take longer.

Aside from the Redmi Note 9 series that was unveiled by Xiaomi, the brand also launched the Redmi Watch in China today (Thursday). the smartwatch is the second wearable device that Redmi would be showcasing and indeed, the first Redmi-branded smartwatch.

The Redmi Watch features a square-shaped screen with a simple but elegant design. It weighs just 35g and the frame comes in three color options of black, ivory, blue ink. In addition, the strap color options include black, ivory, cherry pink, and pine needle green.

The minimalist design language includes a 2.5D curved glass panel, matte texture body, metal texture buttons, matching skin-friendly TPU material strap, manufactured using heat bending process in order for it to fit the curvature of the wrist. The watch also comes with a detachable buckle.

The Redmi Watch may as well be the same as the Mi Watch Lite that Xiaomi is expected to announce soon. Both smartwatches share a similar 1.4-inch square display with a pixel density of 323PPI. The watch also features more than 20 custom dials, including classic simplicity, cool IP, independent design, etc.

An official listing by Redmi has confirmed that there are three major highlights of the Redmi Note 9 5G launch event that will be held on Nov. 26 in China. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing will be hosting a talk show mostly to talk about the new products. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had approved a wearable device with model number REDMITW01 in September. Soon, a variant of the same device with model number REDMIWT02 was certified by the UL (Demko) authority. The listing revealed that the model number belongs to the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite smartphone. Today, the Mi Watch Lite received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) through which some of its key details have emerged.

The FCC documents of the Mi Watch Lite has images of the retail package of the Mi Watch Lite. An image of the smartwatch can be seen on the front side of the package and its key features are mentioned on its back.

The FCC images reveal that the Mi Watch Lite will be sporting a 1.4-inch squad-shaped touchscreen display. The smartwatch is equipped with an auto-brightness feature for the display. It is fueled by a 230mAh battery that supports 5W charging.

The Mi Watch Lite has plenty of fitness modes and it carries support for swimming stroke recognition. It is also capable at 24-hour rate tracking. It also features a built-in standalone GPS. It comes with support for Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.

Xiaomi is yet to confirm on the existence of the Mi Watch Lite. As mentioned above, the device could be rebranded as Redmi Watch in certain markets like China. Redmi is expected to hold a launch event for announcing the new Redmi Note phones in the home market in November or December. The company may announce the Redmi Watch at the same event.

In November 2019, Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi Mi Watch in China with a price tag of 1,299 Yuan (~$190). It appears that the company is now planning to launch a more affordable version of Mi Watch as a device named Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite has bagged a vital certification.

As can be seen in the screenshot, the UL (Demko) authority has approved the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite. The listing reveals that the model number of the device is REDMIWT02 and it carries support for 5Vdc and 0.4A charging.

Yesterday, the REDMIWT01 had received approval from the MIIT authority of China. A reliable Chinese tipster had claimed that the REDMIWT01 will be debuting as Redmi Watch in China soon. The REDMIWT02 that has been approved by UL (Demnko) seems to be a variant of the REDMIWT01. Hence, it appears that the Redmi Watch could be rebranded version as the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite in some markets. At present, there is no word on the specifications of the Mi Watch Lite.

The Xiaomi Mi Watch has a 1.78-inch S-AMOLED display that offers 360 x 448 pixels. The Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset is present under the hood of the device. It comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The smartwatch is backed by a 570mAh battery and it offers connectivity features such as NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.2. It carries support for wireless charging.

Last year, Xiaomi launched its first-ever smartwatch called Mi Watch in its home country China. A few weeks later, the company unveiled a cheaper and circular version of this wearable called Mi Watch Color. Now, almost a year later, the firm’s sub-brand is all set to debut its smartwatch as it now gets certified by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Ever since Redmi became an independent brand, it has been launching a wide variety of products apart from smartphones. However, it has only released a single wearable in the form of Redmi Band (aka Redmi Smart Band & Mi Band 4C).

That said, there have been rumors for a Redmi-branded smartwatch for a very long time. This upcoming wearable going by the model number REDMIWT01 has now cleared MIIT certification in China, as per a screenshot shared by well-known leakster Digital Chat Sation on Weibo.

The tipster says that this smartwatch will be launching in October with great battery life. Hence, we don’t expect it to run Android Wear operating system as it is not known for good battery performance.

We believe that this forthcoming Redmi smartwatch will run a proprietary OS as found in the Mi Watch Color. Other than the model number and battery life, nothing else is known about this mysterious wearable.

Having said that, Xiaomi is yet to debut its smartwatches in international markets. The Mi Watch Color is expected to launch as Mi Watch Revolve in India on September 29.

Earlier today, the purported Redmi K30 Pro 5G surfaced at TENAA with full specifications and images. The TENAA appearance is a good hint that the Redmi K30 Ultra 5G will be made official in China as early as next month. Yesterday, a reliable Chinese tipster claimed that the Redmi Watch will launch soon in China. A poster of the 818 Jingdong Mobile Phone Festival that has appeared on Weibo suggests that these two devices may go official on Aug. 14.

Chinese retailer Jingdong will carry out a mobile phone shopping festival between Aug. 8 and Aug. 18. in China. The Chinese text present below the 8.14 date in the screengrab translates to ‘New Product Day.’ Hence, leaksters on Weibo are speculating that the Redmi K30 Ultra 5G and Redmi Watch will both go official on the said date. At present, there is no official confirmation on the arrival of these devices from Redmi.

Nothing is yet known on the specifications of the Redmi Watch. The device is likely to be a less powerful version of the Xiaomi Mi Watch that went official in November 2019.  Apart from China, India will be one of the markets that may receive the Redmi Watch. The reason behind it is that a listing of the Redmi smartwatch had appeared at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the beginning of this year.

Redmi K30 Ultra 5G specifications (Rumored)

The Redmi K30 Ultra 5G has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with notch-less design. The 120Hz Full HD+ screen is embedded with a fingerprint sensor. For capturing selfies, it has an elevating camera of 20-megapixel. The rear-facing circular camera setup has a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 image sensor as the primary camera.

The Dimensity 1000+ will be powering the device with up to 12 GB of RAM. The phone may offer users with up to 512 GB of storage. The device has a 4,500mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging.

Xiaomi recently launched its first WearOS-powered smartphone, dubbed as Mi Watch. Now, it seems that its newly separated entity Redmi is also gearing up to launch its own smartphone which could be named Redmi Watch.

Lu Weibing, General Manager of the Redmi brand, has taken to microblogging platform Weibo to hint that the Redmi Watch could be coming soon. He wrote on the social media platform: “How do you feel about the first Redmi Watch? Looking forward to the Redmi Watch?” While this isn’t a confirmation, it looks like a credible hint that the smartwatch from the brand is coming soon.

If you look at the pattern, this makes the sensor. Redmi has been launching a slightly cheaper product of every major product that Xiaomi launches. So far, Redmi has done the same with the laptops and Smart TVs and smartwatches could be next.

Currently, nothing is known about the Redmi Watch but if it is indeed coming, we expect it to come with a similar design to that of Mi Watch. It could be a watered-down variant of the Mi Watch to offer it at an aggressive price point.

If the Redmi Watch is coming, expect it to get stripped of eSIM support and pack smaller capacity battery to cut down the pricing. However, we expect it to be running the same software as the Mi Watch — MIUI for Watch which is based on Android WearOS.

The Xiaomi Mi Watch comes with a 1.78-inch AMOLED display with a 44mm frame and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 4G chipset. It is fuelled by a 510mAh battery which the company claims can offer up to 36 hours or two days of battery life on a single charge.

As per the report, a Pro variant of the Mi Watch is also in works which will reportedly feature a round dial. The launch date of Xiaomi’s Mi Watch Pro variant is also not confirmed but if it is coming, we expect it to get launched by the end of this year. The recently announced Mi Watch is all set to go on sale on November 11th in China.
