<p>Samsung’s S Pen has long been synonymous with its flagship Galaxy Note series, and now the Ultra line of the Galaxy S series. For over a decade, it has been a defining feature, beloved by power users for its precision, versatility, and productivity features.</p>

<p>But recent changes, from the removal of Bluetooth functionality to the complete absence of stylus support on foldables, have raised concerns about the future of the S Pen.</p>

<p>Is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> quietly phasing out its iconic stylus, or is it simply rethinking how it integrates the technology?</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-1024x536.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S-Pen FCC" class="wp-image-587463" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-FCC.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h3><strong>Quiet Downgrades</strong></h3>

<p>Samsung began scaling back the S Pen with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a>. The company removed the Bluetooth LE module from the stylus, which eliminated its Air Actions functionality. Features like remote camera shutter, media playback controls, and gesture-based navigation all disappeared.</p>

<p>These capabilities turned the S Pen into more than just a writing tool. Their removal frustrated many fans, with online communities still voicing their disappointment.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s26-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S26 Ultra</a> did not restore these features or introduce major upgrades. The S Pen now works as a basic capacitive input tool for writing and drawing. Samsung’s foldable phones have also moved away from S Pen support.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy Z Fold 7</a>, which some expected to embrace the stylus, shipped without compatibility. Samsung’s decision to prioritize thinness and lightness over the stylus further fueled speculation that the S Pen is being phased out.</p>

<h3><strong>Design Compromises</strong></h3>

<p>Samsung redesigned the S Pen to fit its increasingly slim phones. The stylus on the Galaxy S26 Ultra is thinner than its predecessor. It now measures 5.0 x 4.15mm, down from 5.8 x 4.35mm on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung also modified the clicker button to fit the phone’s curved frame, restricting the stylus to be inserted in just one orientation.</p>

<p>Then there’s another issue. The company has warned users about potential issues with Qi2 magnetic charging cases. These cases, while useful for wireless charging, may interfere with the S Pen’s functionality. If any interference occurs, users will receive a pop-up notification on their screen. These design compromises show the challenges of integrating the stylus into thinner and lighter devices.</p>

<h3><strong>Samsung’s Vision for the S Pen</strong></h3>

<p>Samsung has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/28/samsung-says-the-s-pen-isnt-going-anywhere-hints-at-more-advanced-technology/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">addressed the growing concerns</a> about the S Pen’s future. Won-Joon Choi, COO of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business, stated in a recent interview that the S Pen remains a core technology for the company.</p>

<p>Choi revealed that Samsung is working on more advanced technology within S Pen. He explained that this would involve structural changes to the display to eliminate the trade-offs associated with including the stylus.</p>

<p>Choi did not provide technical details. However, the term new structure of display suggests significant innovations could be coming. Samsung may be exploring thinner digitizer layers, alternative input methods, or better integration with Qi2 charging technology.</p>

<p>These changes could reduce the space taken up by the S Pen, improve compatibility with accessories, and preserve battery capacity.</p>

<h3><strong>What These Changes Mean for the S Pen</strong></h3>

<p>We really don’t know at the moment what the future holds for the S Pen. Based on recent statements, it seems Samsung might be working on an advanced version of the stylus. However, if those efforts don’t pan out, there’s a chance the company could remove the S Pen entirely in the future.</p>

<p>Samsung has been heavily focused on AI technologies, and AI-powered tools and voice assistants are becoming increasingly popular. As more people shift toward interacting with devices through voice, writing might not be as essential as it feels today. This shift could influence Samsung’s priorities and the role of the S Pen in its product lineup.</p>

<p>Over the past year, there’s been quiet <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/05/future-galaxy-s-ultra-phones-could-ditch-the-s-pen-slot-internal-space-or-separate-price-tag/">concern around the future of the S Pen</a>. When Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/29/galaxy-s25-ultra-s-pen-the-end-of-bluetooth-features-explained/">removed Bluetooth functionality</a> starting with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, some users took that as a sign that the stylus was slowly being sidelined. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/25/samsung-galaxy-s26-ultra-launched-specs-price/">Galaxy S26 Ultra</a> kept the built-in slot, but without major upgrades, speculation didn’t really go away.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-728979" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-scaled-1-1.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>In an interview with Bloomberg following the Galaxy S26 series launch, Won-Joon Choi, COO of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business, made it clear that the S Pen is still considered core to the Galaxy lineup. More interestingly, he suggested the company is working on a next-generation version that could involve structural changes to the display itself.</p>

<p>According to Choi, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> is developing “a more advanced technology within S Pen” that would require a new display structure. The goal, he explained, is to reduce the “penalty” of including the stylus. That likely refers to the trade-offs we’ve seen over the years — internal space taken up by the silo, battery compromises, and interference with magnetic accessories.</p>

<p>“We’re working on a more advanced technology within S Pen to come up with a new structure of display, so the penalty of having S Pen is diminished,” Choi said, adding that the stylus will remain one of Samsung’s core technologies.</p>

<p>Samsung didn’t share technical specifics, but the phrasing is interesting. A redesigned display stack could mean thinner digitizer layers, different input standards, or better integration with Qi2 charging technology.</p>

<p>For now, the Galaxy S26 Ultra continues with the built-in S Pen slot but without the return of Bluetooth features. That absence led some to wonder whether Samsung was slowly simplifying the stylus experience rather than expanding it. Choi’s comments suggest the opposite — just not on this generation.</p>

<p>The message is fairly clear: Samsung isn’t backing away from the S Pen, but it may be rethinking how it integrates it. If display-level changes are indeed in the works, the impact likely won’t be visible until a future Ultra generation.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> has officially unveiled the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/09/galaxy-z-fold-7-is-official-samsung-thinnest-fold/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy Z Fold 7</a> at its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, introducing a thinner and lighter foldable flagship with upgraded hardware, improved displays, and enhanced durability. However, the device no longer supports the S Pen stylus, a significant shift for the Fold series.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7" class="wp-image-696186" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-1.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy Z Fold 3</a>, S Pen support had been a staple feature, enabling productivity and creative use on the large inner screen. With the Fold 7, Samsung has dropped that support entirely. The company explained that enabling S Pen functionality would have required an additional digitizer layer, increasing the device’s thickness.</p>

<p>To maintain a sleeker form, Samsung prioritized design, trimming the unfolded thickness from 5.6mm to just 4.2mm and reducing the weight from 239g to 215g. As a result, the Fold 7 is now the lightest large-format foldable on the market.</p>

<p>The device features a larger 8-inch Infinity Flex Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display, 11% bigger than its predecessor, with both inner and outer screens supporting a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 2600 nits peak brightness. Samsung has also ditched the under-display camera in favor of a standard 10MP front sensor to improve image clarity.</p>

<p>Performance gets a boost with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. The Fold 7 marks a first for the series by introducing a 200MP main rear camera, joined by a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Battery capacity remains at 4400mAh, with 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless support.</p>

<p>Samsung has also focused on improving durability. The new Armor FlexHinge, a titanium-layered display, and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 help reinforce the structure. The phone is rated IP48 for resistance to dust and splashes.</p>

<p>The removal of S Pen support on the Z Fold 7, along with the recent decision to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/29/galaxy-s25-ultra-s-pen-the-end-of-bluetooth-features-explained/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">eliminate Bluetooth features from the S Pen</a> on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a>, signals a broader shift in Samsung’s approach. It suggests the company may be repositioning the stylus from a productivity-first tool to a simpler input method, leaving long-time S Pen users uncertain about its future role in Samsung’s flagship ecosystem.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> could be gearing up to drop the built-in S Pen slot from its future Galaxy S Ultra models, a move that’s sparking concern among fans. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to retain the S Pen slot, a recent leak suggests the company is eyeing a redesign down the line to reclaim internal space—though the S Pen itself won’t vanish altogether.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - S Pen" class="wp-image-671014" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra &#8211; S Pen</figcaption></figure>

<p>Since the Galaxy Note’s retirement, the S Pen has been an Ultra hallmark, tucked neatly into the phone’s frame. But that slot eats up real estate that could boost battery size. X user @PandaFlashPro reports that Samsung is mulling this shift, potentially starting post-S26 Ultra.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="460" height="90" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Future-Galaxy-S-Ultra-phone-to-ditch-built-in-S-Pen-slot.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-680593" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Future-Galaxy-S-Ultra-phone-to-ditch-built-in-S-Pen-slot.png 460w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Future-Galaxy-S-Ultra-phone-to-ditch-built-in-S-Pen-slot-300x59.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px" /></figure></div>

<h2>The S Pen won&#8217;t be included in the box, right?</h2>

<p>Samsung is already struggling to manage the cost of including a charging cable in the box. They just switched from the 5A cable to a thinner 3A one, which also reportedly caused some <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/18/is-your-galaxy-s25-plus-ultra-charging-very-slow-heres-the-reason-and-a-fix/">compatibility issues</a> with existing 45W official chargers. If the rumor about the S Pen slot is true, it&#8217;s likely that the premium drawing tool will get a separate price tag. Judging from the industry trends, it also appears to be a more viable reason behind the redesign than the shortage of internal volume.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-671015" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen</figcaption></figure>

<p>Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/29/galaxy-s25-ultra-s-pen-the-end-of-bluetooth-features-explained/">trimmed</a> the Bluetooth feature from the S Pen of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/">S25 Ultra</a>, reportedly because a very small percentage of users actually use it. If the slot goes, an external S Pen—still supported—could revive Bluetooth connectivity, most likely at the cost of a hefty price tag.</p>

<p>The S26 Ultra, due next year, should include the S Pen slot, and the stylus itself may lack Bluetooth. Starting with the S27 Ultra, users might need to carry the stylus separately, much like Galaxy Z Fold owners. Or, Samsung will list a case alongside the stylist for sale that includes an S Pen slot. Nonetheless, this is a leak rather than official information, so take it with a pinch of salt.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung">Samsung’s</a> Galaxy S25 Ultra has made an unexpected change to its S Pen – it no longer supports Bluetooth connectivity. While the stylus retains its core writing and drawing capabilities, some advanced features that relied on Bluetooth have been removed. Here’s a breakdown of what’s missing and why Samsung decided to make this change.</p>

<h2><strong>Missing Bluetooth features on the S Pen</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="728" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-1024x728.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra - Air Actions" class="wp-image-671010" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-1024x728.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-768x546.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-1536x1093.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-2048x1457.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-696x495.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-1068x760.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-1920x1366.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-590x420.jpg 590w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra &#8211; Air Actions</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The removal of Bluetooth has led to the loss of some key functionalities:</p>

<ul><li><strong>No Air Actions:</strong> Previously, the S Pen allowed users to perform gesture-based commands using Air Actions. By waving the stylus in different directions, users could control apps like PowerPoint, switch slides remotely, or navigate certain UI elements. With Bluetooth gone, Air Actions are no longer available, making it less convenient for tasks that require remote gestures.</li><li><strong>No remote clicker functionality</strong>: Another popular use case was using the S Pen button as a remote shutter for the Camera app. This feature allowed users to take photos without physically touching the phone—useful for group shots or stable tripod photography. Unfortunately, this function is now missing.</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="745" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--1024x745.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra - Air Actions-" class="wp-image-671011" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--1024x745.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--300x218.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--768x559.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--1536x1117.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--2048x1490.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--696x506.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--1068x777.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--1920x1397.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--577x420.jpg 577w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Actions--324x235.jpg 324w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra &#8211; Air Actions</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While these features were niche, they added a layer of convenience and innovation that set the S Pen apart from other styluses. Their removal marks a significant shift in how the S Pen integrates with the Galaxy ecosystem.</p>

<h2><strong>What remains the same?</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra - Air Commands" class="wp-image-671017" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-Air-Commands--265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (left) | S25 Ultra (right) &#8211; Air Commands</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Despite the removal of Bluetooth, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a> S Pen is still an excellent tool for drawing, note-taking, and precision tasks. While Air Actions, a similar sound feature called the Air Commands still exists. For those who don’t know, this feature provides quick access to S Pen tools, apps, and shortcuts and can be activated by tapping the small bubble that appears when the S Pen is removed from its slot. Since it doesn’t rely on Bluetooth, users can still customise and access Air Command as usual.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/13/samsung-may-have-dropped-bluetooth-from-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-heres-what-it-means/">removal of Bluetooth functionality</a> in the Galaxy S25 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen does not affect its&nbsp;lost detection feature, as this capability operates independently of Bluetooth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The&nbsp;lost detection feature&nbsp;relies on the&nbsp;electromagnetic field (EMF) communication&nbsp;between the S Pen and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. When the S Pen is inserted into its slot, it establishes a connection with the phone through this EMF link. If the S Pen is separated from the phone beyond a certain distance, the device detects the disconnection and can alert the user. This mechanism does not require Bluetooth, as it uses the built-in EMF sensors in the phone and the S Pen.</p>

<h2><strong>Why did Samsung remove Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen&#8217;s Bluetooth functions?</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - S Pen" class="wp-image-671014" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra &#8211; S Pen</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to Samsung, the decision to remove Bluetooth from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen was based on low user engagement. The company claims that only a small percentage of users actively used features like Air Actions and remote camera control. While this move may <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/28/galaxy-s25-ultra-s-pen-now-available-bluetooth-removal-leaves-fans-disappointed/">disappoint power users</a>, it reflects Samsung’s focus on optimizing features based on actual usage patterns.</p>

<h2><strong>Can users buy a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen separately?</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-671015" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Following the launch of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, some reports suggested that Samsung would sell a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen separately. However, Samsung has officially denied this, stating that no such product exists. This means users who relied on Bluetooth features will need to adapt to the new limitations or explore alternative solutions.</p>

<h2><strong>Is the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen still good?</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="769" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-1024x769.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen (left) and S25 Ultra S Pen (right)" class="wp-image-671013" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-2048x1537.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-1068x802.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-1920x1441.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-left-and-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-right-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen (left) and S25 Ultra S Pen (right)</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Even without Bluetooth, the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen remains a top-tier stylus like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/">Galaxy S24 Ultra</a> S Pen. It features a 0.7mm tip, 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and excellent responsiveness for writing, drawing, and sketching. For users who primarily use the S Pen for these functions, the experience will remain largely unchanged. However, those who relied on the remote capabilities may find this downgrade disappointing.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> officially unveiled its flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a> smartphone during its global product launch event on January 23. Among the many highlights of the device was the S Pen, a long-standing staple of the Ultra series. This time, however, Samsung has made some notable changes to its design and functionality, sparking mixed reactions from fans.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="569" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x569.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-670952" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1024x569.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-768x427.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-696x387.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1068x593.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-756x420.jpg 756w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>S Pen for Galaxy S25 Ultra Comes with Air Command Support</h2>

<p>Samsung has listed the new S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra on its official website for $49.99. Available in Black, Light Grey, and Light Silver, the stylus features a 1.5mm tip and 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, offering precision for writing and drawing. It also retains Air Command functionality.</p>

<p>However, Samsung’s decision to move the S Pen to a &#8220;passive specification&#8221; has raised eyebrows. Unlike its predecessors, the S25 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen does not support Bluetooth connectivity, effectively removing features like Air Actions (it is different from Air Command), remote camera control, and other hover-based operations.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="656" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x656.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-670953" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1024x656.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-300x192.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-768x492.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-696x446.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-1068x684.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1-656x420.jpg 656w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-S-Pen-1.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>This marks a significant shift from the previous models, which included advanced capabilities that many Note series loyalists relied upon. The absence of Bluetooth also means that the S Pen no longer needs charging, aligning with Samsung&#8217;s cost-saving and design simplification measures.</p>

<p>Adding to the confusion, a Samsung blog post initially suggested compatibility with Bluetooth-enabled S Pens, such as the S Pen Pro. This sparked excitement among fans hoping for a workaround to access Bluetooth functionalities.</p>

<p>However, Samsung later <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/s25-ultra-s-pen-3520494/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">clarified</a> to Android Authority that this was a mistake, confirming that the Galaxy S25 Ultra does not support any Bluetooth-equipped S Pens. This retraction has left many users feeling disappointed, particularly those accustomed to the advanced stylus features from earlier models.</p>

<p>The removal of Bluetooth connectivity has not been well-received by fans. Social media platforms and forums are filled with frustrated reactions from users who relied heavily on features like remote camera control and air gestures. Many are questioning the rationale behind Samsung&#8217;s decision, given the popularity of these functionalities among loyal Note and Ultra users.</p>

<p>Samsung justifies the move by pointing to low usage statistics for these features and the added complexity and cost they introduced. However, this change could signal a broader shift in Samsung’s strategy, potentially phasing out the S Pen entirely in future models. Longtime fans of the stylus worry that this downgrade may foreshadow the gradual decline of one of the Galaxy Ultra line&#8217;s defining features.</p>

<p>For those who primarily use the S Pen for note-taking or basic tasks, the changes may not be deal-breaking. But for power users who depend on Bluetooth-enabled features, the Galaxy S25 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen represents a significant step backward. Whether Samsung&#8217;s decision pays off remains to be seen, but for now, it’s clear that the move has left a sizeable portion of the fan base dissatisfied.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung </a>is expected to unveil the highly anticipated <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s24-series/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24 series</a> early next year. We have covered various rumors regarding the upcoming flagship devices, but now, a new certification has hinted at the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/s-pen/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">S Pen</a> stylus, which will be paired with the top end <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24 Ultra</a> model.</p>

<h2>Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen gets certified</h2>

<p>For those unaware, the Galaxy S24 lineup consists of the base Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Galaxy S24 Ultra model is also expected to launch with a dedicated stylus, which is the company&#8217;s S Pen. But prior to any official announcement, the smartphone&#8217;s S Pen has been spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen.webp?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-579955" width="700" height="466" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-300x200.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-768x512.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-696x464.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S24-Ultra-S-Pen-631x420.webp 631w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></figure></div>

<p>Looking at the online listing, the database shows that the Galaxy S24 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen carries the model number EJ-PS928. This S Pen model is the same as the SM-S928, which is the stylus associated with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Bluetooth certification only confirms that the S24 Ultra will feature an S Pen, but does not reveal any other finer details regarding the stylus or the smartphone.</p>

<p>Since it&#8217;s a newer generation smartphone, the latest S Pen might arrive with improvements in design or additions to its features or functionalities. Earlier today (3rd November 2023), we had even reported on the supposed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/03/samsung-galaxy-s24-launch-january-17/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">launch date for the Galaxy S24 lineup</a> as well as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/11/03/samsung-galaxy-s24-colors-snapdragon-exynos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">leaked color options</a> for the premium grade series. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to launch with the two other models on January 17 and will feature an exclusive Golden color option. Samsung also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/03/samsung-s-pen-creator-edition-stylus-launched/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced the Creator Edition of the S Pen</a> last month, so we can expect to see some new features on the S24 Ultra&#8217;s S Pen as well.</p>
