<p>The smart TV market continues to grow. Once a technology that only offered a few low-resolution live channels, smart TVs are now the central entertainment hub in many homes, especially thanks to streaming services. But with so many brands and models to choose from, it can be tough to decide which one is right for you. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>India Smart TV Market Analysis for 1H 2023: Xiaomi Tops, Samsung Follows Closely</strong></h2>

<p>The popularity of smart televisions is increasing day by day. Especially with decreasing costs, many people these days prefer to buy a genuinely affordable smart TV rather than purchasing a non-smart TV and making it smart using a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/07/31/tv-box-sales-china-q1-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">streaming tv box</a>. A recent report from IDC confirms this trend. According to the report, a total of 4.5 million smart televisions were sold in India in the first half of 2023. This represents an 8% growth compared to the same period last year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi TV box and TV market numbers" class="wp-image-569826" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/india-smart-tv-sales-h1-2023.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The decreasing costs had a positive impact, especially on large screen sales. The market share for the 55-inch screen size segment increased from 9% to 12% year over year. This led to a 35% year-on-year growth in the USD$400+ price segment. Users also paid attention to technical features that distinguished a model, such as storage space, HDR, and Dolby certification when making a choice. So, considering all these factors like price and features, who became the leader in India&#8217;s smartphone market?</p>

<p>Of course, the top spot hasn&#8217;t changed. Xiaomi continued to lead the Indian smart TV market in the first half of 2023 with a 14% share, up from 11% in 2022. Especially when we look at more affordable models, we see that Xiaomi is the undisputed leader in the HD and FHD segment with a 25% share. Xiaomi holds the top spot, followed by Samsung at 13%. </p>

<p>However, don&#8217;t be surprised by this second place. As you know, leading the market with premium products is much more advantageous both in terms of brand perception and profitability. Samsung owns 25% of the 4K market and more than 90% of the 8K market. </p>

<p>LG settled in third place with a 12% market share. TCL took fourth place with 8%, while OnePlus once again proved its success in India by securing a 7% market share. The company&#8217;s affordable smart TV series, Y1 and Y1S, played a significant role in this achievement, and it is anticipated that their market share will increase in the future.</p>

<p>A new report has revealed that the 4K TV market will continue to see growth in the coming years. The 4K TV market will apparently see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 19 percent in the five year period starting from 2022 and 2027.</p>

<h4>4K TV market to almost double by 2027</h4>

<p>The data arrives from a new report from <em><a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/4k-tv-market-size-to-grow-by-usd-183-45-billion-from-2022-to-2027--the-rising-popularity-of-large-display-televisions-to-drive-market-growth---technavio-301810522.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Technavio</a></em>, who shared that the high end TV market will see a 19.19 percent growth over the course of this five year period. It adds that the 4K market will reach a sizeable 183.45 billion US Dollars. In other words, the market will almost double in the next couple of years. The rising popularity of these high resolution TVs arrives thanks to growing sales of TVs with larger displays.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="4K" class="wp-image-534082" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-1920x1080.webp 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/what_is_4k_-_sony_bravia-1.webp 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Technavio report states that the standard size of TVs was just around 40 inches. However, due to the shift in trends in the market, the TVs being made have even surpassed the 80 inches in size. Furthermore, as smart TVs have become increasingly more popular in the market, customers have also began gravitating towards models that support 4K resolution.</p>

<p>Although, the market still faces many challenges with one of the biggest hurdles being the lack of 4K content. While these 4K enabled models can still support run content on the lower 1080p or 720p resolution, customers would prefer spending less money to just buy TVs with these lower resolution. </p>

<p>The first quarter of 2023 has proven to be a mixed bag for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/14/chinese-tv-market-february-xiaomi-sony-samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chinese TV market</a>, with some brands maintaining their lead and others experiencing significant declines. According to recent data from RUNTO, the total shipment volume of Chinese TV brands reached 8.52 million units in Q1, a minor 0.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2022, and an 8.9% drop compared to 2021. Here are the details…</p>

<h2><strong>Xiaomi Retains Dominance in Q1 2023 Chinese TV Market, TCL Soars, and Huawei Struggles</strong></h2>

<p>In Q1 2023, the combined shipment volume of the top seven traditional Chinese TV brands—Xiaomi, Hisense, TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Haier, and Konka—along with their sub-brands reached 7.89 million units, representing a 2.5% YoY growth. These brands captured a massive 92.6% of the total market share, a historical high, and a 2.7 percentage point increase from the same period in 2022. Breaking down the performance of each brand:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="503" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-1024x503.webp?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-529225" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-1024x503.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-300x147.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-768x377.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-696x342.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-1068x524.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-856x420.webp 856w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-324x160.webp 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023-533x261.webp 533w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/chinese-tv-market-q1-2023.webp 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<ul><li>Xiaomi, including its Redmi sub-brand, shipped approximately 2 million units in Q1, accounting for 24% of the overall market share. Despite a slight decrease compared to 2022, Xiaomi maintained its top position in the Chinese TV market for the fourth consecutive year.</li><li>Hisense, along with its Vidda sub-brand, shipped nearly 2 million units, achieving a 13% YoY growth and a market share increase of around 3 percentage points. Notably, the Hisense brand led the market in monthly shipments during February and March.</li><li>TCL, featuring sub-brands Leiniao and Lehua, witnessed a 37% YoY growth in Q1, the highest growth rate in the industry. Its market share also increased by 4.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year.</li><li>Skyworth, accompanied by its Coocaa sub-brand, saw a considerable 11% growth in Q1, along with a 1.5 percentage point increase in market share.</li><li>The second-tier brands Changhong, Haier, and Konka, which typically have an annual shipment scale of around 3 million units, experienced a challenging Q1. They faced intense competition from top-tier brands, resulting in decreased shipment volumes and combined market shares. Their total shipments amounted to roughly 1.3 million units, with a YoY decline of over 20% and a market share reduction of around 5 percentage points.</li><li>Huawei struggled significantly in Q1 2023, as internal adjustments negatively impacted sales. Shipments fell below 200,000 units, marking a YoY drop of over 50%.</li><li>Sharp, a foreign brand, faced a similar decline as Huawei, with its shipment volumes cut in half. Other brands like Sony, Samsung, and Philips maintained their 2022 market shares, with a combined share of less than 10%.</li></ul>

<p>As we move further into 2023, the industry will closely monitor the TV market&#8217;s performance during the short holiday in early May and the 618 presale event at the end of May. These events will likely provide crucial insights into the market dynamics and future trends for the remainder of the year.</p>

The report shows that a total estimate of 98.3 million<a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/smart-tv"> smart TVs</a> was shipped in the first half of the year 2021. This shows the market grew by 6.8% year on year.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-404736" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The report also reveals an impressive shift by consumers towards OLED TVs as an estimated 2.7 million OLED TVs were shipped during this period representing a year-on-year increase of 133.3%. This is an impressive trend that is made possible as more Chinese display makers perfect their OLED production skills.</p>
<p>In terms of individual brands, Samsung ranked first with an estimated shipment of 20.8 million units, an increase of 11.9% Year-on-Year. This year makes it the 15th consecutive year <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/25/samsung-lead-global-tv-market-15th-consecutive-year/#">Samsung has led the global smart TV market</a>. Rival Korean electronics giant LG comes in second place with an estimated shipment of 13.1 million units. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-404737" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="299" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-2-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/global-tv-shipment-2-324x160.jpg 324w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Chinese electronics company TCL recorded a surge in its shipment, peaking at 11.1 million units in the first six months of this year. TCL not only ranked in third place but also emerged as the number one Chinese smart TV manufacturer. TCL&#8217;s shipment represents a year-on-year increase of 13.6%.</p>
<p>Hisense shipped an estimated 8.4 million units which represents a year-on-year increase of 5.5% to occupy the number 4 spot. Xiaomi completes the top 5 with an estimated shipment of 5.4 million units. The rest of the top 10 spots is occupied by Sony, Vizio, Philips+AOC, Skyworth, and Sharp respectively.</p>
