Xiaomi has released the MIUI 13 beta build which is based on Android 12. The new software release is for the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, offering a number of foldable features to the flagship.

The MIUI already features several useful options for foldables including split-screen multitasking, the home screen dock, and floating apps. The new additions will further enhance the overall user experience using the Mi Mix Fold.

The MIUI 13 for the Mi Mix Fold features an improved desktop layout for the inner display. Xiaomi has also optimized the dual-screen desktop for seamless functionality. Users will enjoy the multitasking features which have been refreshed from the previous build. Users can also use a three-finger gesture to enter the split-screen mode and open apps. The Control Center is also revamped. Thus, switching between the Control Center and the notification center is just a swipe away.

A 9-key dual-column and a dual GV keyboard forms are improvements from the previous build. All system apps have also been updated and optimized in terms of their page structure and layout. Owners of the Mi Mix Fold could download the MIUI 13 beta build. This will also involve the flashing of the build to bypass the normal account whitelisting.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold was released in April 2021 as the first foldable phone from Xiaomi, and while it did come with some really compelling specs, it also carried a seriously hefty price tag of 10,999 Yuan or around USD 1,725 for the 12GB + 512GB variant.

But less than a year later and it has now already become the cheapest horizontally foldable phone on the market.

The discount comes as part of the New Year’s Day festive spirit, with both the Gregorian and Chinese new year being just a month apart from each other in 2022. A price cut of 4,000 Yuan is being offered as part of the discount, effectively bringing down the price to 6,999 Yuan, which is less than USD 1,100. The sale will last until the end of January.

Of course, the phone never made it out of China despite rumors of a global launch surfacing just a few days following its announcement. The offer can thus only be availed in China, that too from only Xiaomi Mall on JD.com as of now.

Additionally, Xiaomi has also launched a Folding Screen Tiger Year gift box, priced at 8,999 yuan, which includes a Mi MIX Fold Ceramic Special Edition (16+512GB) and Xiaomi True Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones 3 Pro.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold uses a 6.52-inch external AMOLED screen, which still holds up as the largest external screen in a folding phone, despite more recent launches like the OPPO Find N. It’s also quite high-end with a refresh rate of 90Hz and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

Other specs include Snapdragon 888, 5020mAh battery with support for 67W wired fast charging, 108MP triple camera setup, and stereo 4-unit speakers.

OPPO just launched its first foldable phone and it is already an outstanding success. The official sales will begin on December 23 but the handset already went on sale in limited quantities a few days ago, with an immediate sold-out. According to OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau and a lot of other people, the OPPO Find N is the best foldable phone released until now. But is it the truth? In order to understand it, we decided to compare it to the other last-generation foldable phones. After comparing it to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, here is a comparison between the specifications of OPPO Find N and Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold vs OPPO Find N

Design

The design of the OPPO Find N is simply stunning. In my opinion, the phone is a lot more attractive than Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold due to its amazing glossy finish, color options, and, more than anything, its compact dimensions. Its rear glass protected by Gorilla Glass Victus is reminiscent of the OPPO Find X3 and the Reno6 Series, and it is very compact while folded thanks to a 5.49-inch external display with very narrow bezels. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold uses ceramic instead of glass, but it is not enough to make it more suggestive than OPPO Find N which is also thinner and lighter than its rival.

Display

The display of the OPPO Find N is smaller than the one of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold with a diagonal of 7.1 inches against 8.01 inches, but its quality is higher. It is an AMOLED display provided by Samsung with the LTPO technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz, the HDR10+ certification, and a very high resolution. Unfortunately, the internal display of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold does not have a high refresh rate, but it shows up to one billion colors and supports Dolby Vision, besides the HDR10+ certification. When it comes to the external displays, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold wins the fight with its 90 Hz AMOLED panel providing HDR10+ and Dolby Vision just like the foldable panel inside. OPPO Find N and Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold have stereo speakers and rely on side-mounted fingerprint readers for authentication.

Specs & Software

The OPPO Find N and the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold are powered by the same mobile platform: the flagship-class Snapdragon 888 running at a max frequency of 2.84 GHz. They both provide flagship performance with almost no limits in every scenario. The winner of the hardware comparison is the highest-end memory configuration of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold because it provides 16 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the OPPO Find N is based on Android 11 (customized by ColorOS 12), while the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold still ships with Android 10 (customized by MIUI 12). Note that the OPPO Find N also provides very advanced software features taking advantage of its form factor.

Camera

The best foldable phone in terms of camera performance in the whole market is the OPPO Find N. It is equipped with a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main camera, a 13 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and a 16 MP ultrawide camera. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold features 3x optical zoom, but its main camera is inferior, as well as its 20 MP front camera. The OPPO Find N has two amazing 32 MP front cameras: one on the internal display and another one on the external panel.

Battery

The battery of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is actually bigger because the phone is bigger too and there is more space to contain a bigger battery. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold should guarantee a longer battery life in several scenarios due to its bigger 5000 mAh unit, and it will also provide faster charging thanks to a power of 67W. But the OPPO Find N adds wireless charging, which is not present on the Mi Mix Fold.

Price

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold starts from about €1300/$1470, while the starting price tag of the OPPO Find N roughly translates into €1070/$1210. Due to its more compact form factor, I personally prefer the Find N. It also provides better cameras, so it is definitely the winner of this comparison, in my honest opinion.

OPPO is expected to unveil its first foldable smartphone dubbed OPPO Find N on December 15. Ahead of the launch, the device has been revealed by Korean media outfit TheElec to have a Samsung Display foldable screen for its 7.1-inch folding OLED panel while the front display is a 5.45-inch flat OLED panelsupplied by China’s BOE.

TheElec has also revealled that other Chinese companies are already patronising Samsung Display for their next foldable phones. Xiaomi is one of such firms as the Xiaomi MIX 2 foldable smartphone is touted to feature a UTG panel supplied by Samsung Display.

Samsung partnered with Corning to pioneer the UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) foldable display panel in 2020. The Galaxy Fold/Flip series was hitherto the only models utilizing the UTG panel until OPPO came onboard. Meanwhile Chinese smartphone makers use CPI (Colorless Polyimide) as display cover for their foldable models like the Huawei Mate X released in 2019 as well as the Mate X2 and Mi Mix Fold. But obviously, the CPI is not as durable as Samsung Display’s UTG panel hence the quest to shift to UTG. BOE is looking to give Samsung a run for its money in the UTG market.

Xiaomi’s upcoming MIX Fold 2 is detailed to feature Samsung Display’s 8.01-inch OLED panel with UTG as well as TCL CSOT’s 6.52-inch panel for the front screen. Xiaomi had initially used foldable display panels supplied by TCL CSOT as well as for the front screen  on the Mi MIX Fold.

Apart from Xiaomi, Vivo is also said to use display panels supplied by Samsung Disply and BOE for the inner foldable and outer displays respectively of its foldable phone. Huawei is said to have considered securing foldable OLED panels from Samsung Display but the plan was later shelved as far back as the first half of the year. The CHinese giant may likely retail BOE who had supplied the panels for the Mate X and Mate X2. Honor’s upcoming foldable device is also tipped to use BOE’s foldable display panel.

Smartphones today are media powerhouses that can do so much more than what they were initially designed for – calls. They have managed to make other devices like clocks, cameras, navigation devices, credit cards, and even laptops redundant.

But who could’ve possibly thought that a smartphone like the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold can also be used to build a tiny model of a part of the Shanghai city itself?

In a new promo video posted on Weibo, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has been stripped down to its tiniest components. It isn’t a usual disassembly video though.

An artist has used the phone’s parts to build a model of the Shanghai Pudong area complete with the famous Shanghai bridge and the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower. But what’s cooler is that all of the models can be fitted into a tiny globe that also appears to be made of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold.

Of course, the poor phone is beyond reassembly now. But with a model this beautiful, it’s pretty clear that the ‘sacrifice’ has not been in vain.

The model is very much along the lines of the Mi 11 disassembly video from early this year where the phone was turned into a dragon sculpture.

The Double Eleven (Nov. 11) shopping festival of China is drawing near. At present, many smartphone OEMs in China are announcing new phones and discounts on their existing devices ahead of the Double Eleven event. Today, Xiaomi took to Weibo to announce massive discounts on its smartphones like Xiaomi MIX Fold, MIX 4, Xiaomi 11 Pro, Xiaomi 11, and Xiaomi 10S.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold had debuted with a starting price of 9,999 Yuan (~$1,536) in China. With a price cut of 2,500 Yuan (~$390), it will be available with an attractive starting price of 7,499 Yuan (~$1,172). It is Xiaomi’s first foldable phone that features an 8.01-inch foldable AMOLED panel that delivers 1860 x 2480 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. It has a 6.52-inch AMOLED display that offers a 90Hz refresh rate on the outside.

The Snapdragon 888 SoC powers the MIX Fold with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. It has a 20-megapixel front camera and a 108-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel telephoto/macro liquid lens + 13-megapixel (ultrawide) triple camera unit. It houses a 5,020mAh battery, which supports 67W fast charging. For security, it features a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi MIX 4 had debuted with a price of 4,999 Yuan (~$782). Now with a price drop of 800 Yuan (~$125), it will be available for 4,199 Yuan (~$657) during the 11.11 shopping festival in China. The MIX 4 is the company’s first smartphone with an under-display camera.

The MIX 4 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display, Snapdragon 888 SoC, up to 12 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of storage, a 20-megapixel under-display camera, and the same 108-megapixel triple camera unit as MIX Fold, a 4,500mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. Both MX Fold and MIX 4 are exclusively available in China.

The Xiaomi 11 Pro is another China-exclusive phone that has received a price cut. It had debuted for 4,499 Yuan (~$703), and now it will be available for 3,999 Yuan (~$625) during the upcoming sale.

The Xiaomi 11 and Xiaomi 10S have received 300 Yuan (~$47) price cut. They had debuted for 3,799 Yuan (~$594) and 2,999 Yuan (~$469), and now Xiaomi has reduced their costs to 3,499 Yuan (~$547) and 2,699 Yuan (~$422) for the 11.11 sale.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is waterproof with the IPX8 certification and it also comes with the Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning. Last but not least, it is more compact and has a more elegant design: just look at the camera module in order to notice how minimal its design is. Note that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 supports the S Pen and the eSIM technology, while Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold does not have a pen. The Mi  Mix Fold is a dual SIM phone (unlike its rival) but it does not have an eSIM.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is the first display coming with an Eco2OLED panel which is able to improve efficiency in order to provide a lower energy consumption. The internal foldable display has a diagonal of 7.6 inches and a Quad HD+ resolution, as well as the HDR10+ certification, the highest brightness, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold still comes with an outstanding foldable panel sporting a diagonal of 8.01 inches, a Quad HD+ resolution, up to one billion colors, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has a more interesting display, but the Mi Mix Fold remains amazing. Both the phones have an external OLED display for those who want to use them as normal phones, as well as side-mounted fingerprint readers.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has a $1799/€1799 starting price in the global market, while Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold begins at €1300/$1522 in Asia. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 wins the comparison because it is waterproof, it comes with wireless charging, more interesting cameras, the under-display camera technology, S Pen support, and more. Xiaomi is reportedly working on two new flagship phones. These phones are codenamed K8 and J18s and they are expected to arrive as the company’s first devices with an in-screen camera. Today, reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station took to Weibo to reveal a few key specs of the J18s phone.

The Xiaomi MI MIX Fold debuted in March as the company’s first foldable phone. It is speculated that the J18s is the second foldable smartphone from the brand. The tipster claims that there is a slight change on the J18s as it carries support for a 90Hz refresh rate.

The original Mi MIX Fold has a 90Hz outer display, whereas its inner screen supports only a 60Hz refresh rate. Probably, the inner screen of the J18s foldable will also support a 90Hz refresh rate. He added that the device has a triple camera system featuring a 108-megapixel primary camera, a liquid lens with 3x optical zoom, and an ultrawide snapper.

However, the major highlight of the device is that it is equipped with an in-screen camera. The exact moniker of the device is not known yet. Presumably, this device could be an updated version of the Mi MIX Fold.

Last year in August, Xiaomi showcased the third generation in-display camera technology. It claimed that its tech can let the underlying camera can see through the gaps in its sub-pixels. The display area above the camera can produce the same density of pixels as the rest of the display. Hence, the screen will be able to perfectly disguise the under-screen camera.  Also, the selfie snapper will be able to deliver results similar to conventional front-facing cameras.

Xiaomi has officially announced that the Mi MIX Fold foldable smartphone will go on sale again tomorrow (April 23) at 10 AM CST. The Mi Mix Fold was first announced on March 30 and went on sale for the first time only last week.

The first sale of the flagship device was marked by a strong showing of interest in the model with over 400 million yuan accrued from the sales of around 30000 units within one minute after the sales opened.

The Mi Mix Fold is Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone and is equipped with a Snapdragon 888 processor. The device also utilizes an in-folding design with the outward display being a 6.52-inch flexible AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2520×840 pixels, 700nits brightness, Dolby Vision support, and 90Hz refresh rate.

The inward display is an 8.01-inch with a resolution of 2480×1860 pixels. The display also supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and has a pixel density of 387PPI as well as DCI-P3 wide color gamut, and supports Dolby Vision.

Under the hood, there is a decent 5020mAH battery and the phone equally supports 67W fast charging.

Xiaomi also hinted that the Mix Fold will have exclusive customer service with after-sales service personnel. It comes with a 12-month warranty. The foldable phone starts at 9999 yuan (~$1,540) for the 12+256GB version while the 12+512GB is priced at 10999 yuan (~$1,694) and finally, the 16+512GB ceramic special edition is priced at 12999 yuan (~$2,002).

At the end of the previous month, Xiaomi announced the Mi MIX Fold as its first foldable smartphone in China. Currently, the device is only available for purchase in the home market. Fresh information shared by tipster Mukul Sharma suggests that the Mi MIX Fold may soon get a global launch.

These listings suggest that the company could be planning to globally release in the Mi MIX Fold. In China, the device is priced t 9,999 Yuan for 12GB RAM + 512 GB storage version, 10,999 Yuan for 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage edition, and 12,999 Yuan for 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage model.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold has an 8.01-inch AMOLED screen that offers QHD+ resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 4:3 aspect ratio. Placed on the front is a 6.52-inch AMOLED screen with a punch-hole design. It delivers QHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.  The Snapdragon 888 mobile platform fuels the device with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The device boots MIUI 12 based Android 11 OS.

The Mi MIX Fold has a 5,020mAh battery that supports 67W rapid charging. Its camera setup includes a 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM2 main camera, a 13-megapixel superwide sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto liquid lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, it has a front camera of 20-megapixel. The cameras are powered by Xiaomi’s homegrown Surge C1 ISP.

Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix Fold on March 30 as the brand’s first foldable smartphone. The foldable phone went on sale for the first time yesterday and data released by the company indicate that Mi Mix Fold units worth 400 million yuan (over $61 million USD) were sold in one minute. In other words, the phone was sold out in just a minute. While the actual number of units sold wasn’t revealed, taking into consideration the highest price of foldable device which is 12,999 yuan (~$2,000), the company may have sold over 30,000 units.

Xiaomi has often been seen as a company that sells premium products at affordable prices but the company has gradually started changing that stance. The Mi MIX Fold is the brand’s first smartphone that will retail for up to 10,000 yuan. The base model of the Mix Fold is priced at 9,999 yuan (~$1,530). Thus, it is interesting to see that there is still a tremendous level of interest from fans.

The Mi Mix Fold adopts an in-folding design and in terms of aesthetics, it is indisputably beautiful. The smartphone display comes in at 8.01 inches in the unfolded state with a resolution of 2480×1860 pixels as well as a pixel density of 387PPI. The main display also has a 4.300000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10+, 1.07 billion colors, DCI-P3 wide color gamut, and supports Dolby Vision.

In the folded state, the phone packs a 6.52-inch flexible AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2520×840 pixels. It also has a refresh rate of 90Hz, 700nits brightness, and equally supports Dolby Vision.

The foldable phone is powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset and is available in three memory configurations; 12GB+256GB storage, 12GB+512GB storage, and a hefty 16GB+512GB storage version. You also get a 108MP main shooter teaming up with a 13MP ultrawide sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens in a triple camera arrangement.

There is no word yet on when the flagship will go on sale again or when it will be launched for the global market.

Xiaomi recently took the industry by storm with the launch of its first foldable screen smartphone dubbed Mi MIX Fold. The premium foldable phone marks the launch of a new MIX series phone after a two-year hiatus since the last Mi MIX 3 was released. To commemorate the launch, Xiaomi has unveiled a limited edition Mi MIX Fold exclusive gift box.

The Mi MIX Fold exclusive gift box is made up of the Mi MIX Fold ceramic version, a Mi Band 5 NFC Edition, and an Armani Men’s perfume. The gift box will need to be purchased through a lottery as there are only 100 units of the edition available. It carries a retail price of 12,999 yuan (~$1,984 USD). The price is the same as that of the regular Ceramic Edition of the Mix Fold.

As stated, there are only 100 sets of this model available but already, as of press time, 9167 people have participated in the activity. The result of the lottery will be announced at 10:00 am on April 16.

The Mi MIX Fold Ceramic Edition features 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Like the regular model, it packs a 6.52-inch AMOLED cover display with a resolution of 2520 x 840 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. It has a 27:9 aspect ratio, a maximum brightness of 900 nits, and HDR10+.  The main foldable display is an 8.01-inch WQHD+ OLED panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The gift box equally utilizes a unique design. The pattern of the cover of the gift box is composed of multiple arc lines made up of two colors of black and gold, giving it a premium look.

I personally prefer the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 due to its more elegant camera module. Further, it has a more compact and thinner body. It is even a lighter phone. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold offers bigger displays: both the foldable screen and the external display have wider diagonals. Further, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold comes in an additional ceramic version built with better materials.

Display

Talking about the displays, these devices come with similar specifications and both feature excellent AMOLED panels. Despite it is a Xiaomi phone, the display of the Mi Mix Fold is made by Samsung. In both cases, you get foldable AMOLED panels with 2K resolutions, HDR10+ certification. But on the paper, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is superior thanks to its 120 Hz refresh rate, while Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a standard 60 Hz refresh rate. If we talk about the external non-foldable displays, then Mi Mix Fold wins: it has a 6.52-inch external panel which, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, features a 90 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and the HDR10+ certification.

Specs & Software

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is the most powerful foldable phone ever made: it is powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of native storage (UFS 3.1). The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with the weaker (but still flagship-class) Snapdragon 865+, which sits in the middle between Snapdragon 865 and 870. It offers a max of 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. Despite Mi Mix Fold just went official it is still based on Android 10, just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. But the latter has already been upgraded to Android 11.

Camera

It is still too early to establish which is the best camera phone here. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold comes with a 108 MP main camera, an 8 MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 13 MP ultrawide sensor, as well as a new Surge C1 proprietary image co-processor. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has three 12 MP cameras with dual OIS (unlike the Mi Mix Fold), 2x optical zoom and an ultrawide sensor. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is definitely better when it comes to the front cameras.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a bigger battery and, with its standard refresh rate, it should last more than Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 in most scenarios. It also supports the fastest charging technology with a power of 67W. But you should consider that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 supports wireless charging and reverse charging, while Mi Mix Fold does not.

Price

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold made its debut in China with a €1300/$1530 starting price, while Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 launched in the country with a €2200/$2585 listing price. Despite the Mi Mix Fold is a newly-announced foldable phone and Galaxy Z Fold 2 is not, it is not superior to Samsung’s offering in every aspect. Xiaomi held a mega launch event in China yesterday to announce Mi 11 series phones such as Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Lite 5G, and some other products like the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, chargers, routers, and other equipment. At the event, it also announced the Xiaomi Mi 11i and Mi 11 Lite 4G / 5G for global markets. Fresh information reveals that the Chinese manufacturer will be holding another launch event in China today. It is speculated to announce the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold as its first foldable smartphone. A leaked shot of the offline promo material of the Mi MIX Fold has surfaced on Weibo today to reveal its design and key specs.

As the rumor mill claimed, the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold can be seen sporting an in-folding design. The Chinese text that can be seen at the bottom of the image reveals that it is equipped with an 8.01-inch foldable screen that produces 2K resolution and 1.1 billion colors. The Snapdragon 888 mobile platform is present under the hood of the device.

The rear camera module of the MI MIX Fold appears similar to the camera housing of the Xiaomi Mi 10S, which was announced recently in China. It is equipped with a 108-megapixel primary camera with a liquid lens. The device promises 3D output as it is fitted with Harman Kardon powered quad speakers.

In related news, Xiaomi is also expected to announce a self-developed Surge chipset today. At present, there is no information available on its specifications.
