Synaptics announced today a new line of fingerprint sensors. The new sensors will be under the “FS4600 family of Natural ID”. They will be used in smartphones to provide high-performance and secure biometric authentication.

Manufacturers adopt various designs for their fingerprint scanners. We have seen square shaped scanners (Moto G4 Plus and Moto Z Play), pill shaped ones (Meizu M5 Note, Xiaomi Mi 5), circular ones (Redmi Note 4), and square scanners (Lenovo Vibe K4 Note). Synaptics says its new sensors can be adapted into any of these designs and in any position too.

Another new feature coming to the FS4600 family is that it can be placed under either glass, ceramic, or polymer coatings. It can also be assigned the function of two OD soft buttons and will support force sensing and swipe navigation. Security for the FS4600 will be provided by Synpatics’ SentryPoint security software.

The Sentrypoint security suite uses Securelink™ 256-bit AES paired with TLS 1.2 encryption. It also includes Quantum Matcher™ for fingerprint template authentication and PurePrint™ anti-spoof technology. Synaptics says samples of the FS4600 will be available in this quarter and mass production will begin in Q3 2017.
