Xiaomi has big plans to sell more phones and rake in more profits and India is one market the Chinese tech maker is looking up to. One way they aim to achieve that in addition to online sales is by selling their smartphones in branded Mi stores across the country. Xaiomi has just revealed one way it aims to sell its Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 phones in India and it may come as a surprise.
The tech giant has announced a new partnership with Future Group’s supermarket chain to sell Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 handsets from the offline store during the festive season. Xiaomi’s VP Manu Kumar Jain made the disclosure via a Twitter post. With this development, Mi fans in India can now walk into any outlet of Supermarket chain Big Bazaar and buy any of the Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4.

The Xiaomi VP also revealed that this is the first time any brand is selling phones at a supermarket chain. The tech giant hopes to utilise the new partnership to cash in on the Diwali festive season which is usually a boom time for commerce. Online sales in India is already taken care of by Flipkart, Amazon and Xiaomi’s own Mi Home while it already has over a thousand authorized dealers with brick and mortar stores scattered all over India in addition to its Mi Stores. There is no clear indication if the deal with Big Bazaar extends beyond the Diwali season but we believe that would depend on the performance of the products. This may be just a test run of the channel. Also, other smartphones may become available as time goes on.
